Problems with installing ROM from SD Card in CWM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an SGS2 (former running with Android 2.3.5 and SpeedmodKernel). I fullwiped it in order to install a Custom Rom. Then I tried to install the custom-roms .zip file in CWM (v5.0.2.3) with "install from sd-card", I chose the ROM I wished to install and then I get the following error:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device")=="galaxys2" || getprop("ro.build.product")="galaxys2" || getprop("ro.product.device")=="i9100" || getprop("ro.build.product")="GT-I9100" [...]
E: Error in /emmc/CM/cm-10.1-20130204-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip (Status7)
Installation aborted
I wiped everything, so I can't do anything except entering DownloadMode or Recovery!
Can you help me? What can I do?

Hi. I think is because SpeedmodKernel doesn't support JB.
You can try flash a differnt kernel like this one or install some ICS based ROM.

Thank you!
But this Error occurs even when I try to install CM7 (which isn't based on JB as far as I know). It simply occurs at every .zip I try to install!

My Phone is completely blank (except of the cwm and download modus).
Is it possible to flash any SiyahKernel for my s2...what do I have to take care of?

Download siyah fom gokhanmoral' s homepage. Siyah v5.0.1 (v6beta 4 will boot only leaked lsj version).
CWM zip version and put it to external sd and flash it in cwm recovery.
I just flash it and have no issues at all.

It will also boot LS8 based roms. I'm using it with Disaster ROM v.8

Then it's better to flash Dorimanx.
It has ICS & JB support and from what I read on forum is very good kernel. Will try it in near future.

[Q] [LSJ] Flash another rom with LSJ Leaked

Hi Guys,
I'm using LSJ and today I tried to install another ROM (like CM10) and is shown in recovey error code 7.
I'm currently using version NeatRomLite 23-Nov. It's the only one I use. I've used the recovery Phill and CMW and the same error occurs.
Someone has gone through this problem?

if you cannot install any rom i guess you can try to install an odin version . this should not give you any problem
Genrrally, there are 2 methods to flash ROM/kernel/modem: (1) using CWM recovery if you got hold of zip file; (2) use ODIN (PC needed) or Mobile ODIN app (PC-less flashing) if you have tar file. (Mobile ODIN can also flash zip file.)
Which method did you use to flash?

Maybe. Or updater-script.
You cannot flash OTA update with custom recovery.
If you are on stock you have to have stock JB recovery.

Pac man rom for gt i9100

I recently heard about PAC MAN ROM 4.2.2 for Galaxy GT I9100 which is hybrid of different ROMs like Paranoid, CynogenMod etc. I wanted to know how much stable is this ROM in terms of performance and battery life. Additionally, is custom kernel and CWM required to install this ROM or simply flashing the new ROM will do the job? I really am looking forward to installing this ROM in my phone
I have rooted S2 GT I 9100 with official 4.1.2, stock recovery and stock kernel.

That depends on each user mate. I suggest you read user opinions in the ROM's thread to find out.

Like all custom ROMs, PACman ROM requires CWM and root. You don't need a custom kernel per se, but flashing a custom kernel is the best way to get root as well as CWM.

Can you please suggest me a stable custom Kernel that would be comparatively safe for my device GT I9100. I would be quite glad if you would help me with it...:good:
In discussing about the kernel in this thread in post# 619 pg 62 Viper has suggested me with Philz Kernel and FAQs of PacMan ROM, they suggest Dorimax Kernel for my device. So, are these kernel better in performance than the stock kernel or not and does performance of ROM depend upon kernel as well? Since I can backup my ROM and flash new ROM with temporary CWM, I am thinking of using it instead of other custom kernel so as not to mess up with my stock kernel.

Actually all custom kernels are safe. Just make sure (by reading the instructions) you flash the compatible one.
Philz-kernel for example cannot be used with PAC. Just try the stock kernel. If you don't like it, you can try (for example) Dorimanx kernel.

So if I want to try different ROMs can Dorimanx do the job for me? And since my device is already rooted do I need to unroot first before flashing new kernel which have rooting functionality?

No you don't need to un-root and like her said.......read the instructions and search forums for specific kernals for specific ROMs. I'm not sure but I don't think dorimanx is compatible with ALL ROMs.
Anyone clarify?

So just like flashing ROMs we can flash different kernels as per our need simply by installing the respective compatible kernels right?

After flashing PACMan version of 4.2.2, if I need to for warranty, can I simply go to CWM recovery and restore previously created backup of my stock ROM?

No, you need to do a back up to your pc first using kies preferably.....this will make sure its put back to stock standard for warranty purposes.
I thought s2/i9100's were too old to be warrant'd now?
Error in /emmc/...while flashing Pac Man 4.2
I tried to flash PacMan 4.2 but encountered problem. Posted my issue in this thread but no solution received yet.
Got error message something like
"assert failed get prop ("ro.product.device") == "galaxys2" ||getprop("ro.buil.product")==galaxys2.....Error in /emmc/[file location]....Installation aborted..."
Tried to flash pac_i9100_4.2-milestone.1.release_20130806-205645.zip (MD5sum: 5e569d28ae20c0dbb45c71a212a35ce4)
I searched the forum but some say its problem with CWM recovery and others tell about corrupted file. I downloaded file twice incl previous release of the ROM. I even explored the zipped file and could navigate to most of the folders which I think that suggests that file is fine (no corrupted download).
I used temporary CWM v. 6.0.1.4. Should I try Dorimanx Kernel as the developer of ROM suggests the kernel for the ROM.
I currently have official JB 4.1.2, stock recovery and kernel. GT I9100.

its not bricked, if it was bricked you can't even start the phone so no worries.
first make sure your phone is a gt9100, if it is try to flash something else (just for a test), or download a other rom, like slimsaber. Please give a report back :highfive:
You flash the CWM 6.0.4.5 (KK Compatible)?
Just use a up to to date CWM version. First, flash gustavo's Kitkat kernel, then flash a kitkat rom. For example, you cannot install a KK rom with 6.0.3.7 recovery. You need at least CWM 6.0.4.5 or TWRP 2.6.1, to be able to flash a KK rom. So, its not bricked or something.

Exatcly. I raccomanded flash a KK ROM from CM 10.2 / ROM based-on-10.2
COMMON PROBLEM !
1. if your in TWRP install blazing kernal to get the lower version of cwm
2. if your getting error on cwm flash an older version CM 10.2
3. that's it fixed
4. or if your in cm 10.2 and still getting error in the sense corrupted download
hope it helps :good:
