How can I change the BootScreen and LoadingScreen? - HTC Titan

Hey Guys,
I want to change my BootScreen & LoadingScreen, but I don't know, how.
Could you tell me how I can edit them?
The SplashScreen is already changed (SplashScreen changer from wph)

Don't know what do you mean by "splashscreen changer" but if you are talking about WP7.X - Splash screen consists of specially compressed bmp file in XIP - oemlogo.bm_ and the same but not compressed file in OEM - mo_logo.bmp, Also it's possible to use third file - also regular bmp called mologo.bmp. Changing regular bmp is easy - just to copy them to \Windows of your phone. Compressed bmp should be cooked in. If you change only uncompressed files - you get first stock bootlogo, than custom one on boot - this sucks.
Loading screen is a png resource inside shellFrame.dll. If you want to change it - the correct way is to create custom mui - shellFrame.dll.XXXX.mui (XXXX - your default booting lang) with only modified windowsphone logo and copy it into \Windows of your phone.
Reboot is required to see your attempts working.

Heya, thank you for this info,
I changed "mo_logo.bmp" (I already change mologo.png with windowsphonehacker.com/articles/experimental_splash_changer-04-25-12 )
I can see the "HTC-Logo", but I want to replace it with my picture.
I can't find "shellFrame.dll" on my phone.

I told you - it's in XIP. That means - it should be cooked in while building the rom image. Do you know how to cook custom roms? If not - than it's nothing to discuss - you won't be able to change logo completely. Only the second part of it's appearance.

It's in Windows folder of the phone and it's hidden. You will hardly be able to copy it even if you see it.
So - you should get this file from ready-to-cook build uploaded in developer's thread and modify it with any resource editor.

How do I Change the boot splash screen

I've just managed to ahem, persuade Orange UK to sim unlock my Niki 12 weeks early.
The next thing I'd like to do is replace the orange boot splash screen to one of my own.
Maybe with one of R'kids stunning paintings http://www.artworkbysteve.co.uk/
Do I first need to CID unlock my Niki to do this?
Is there any software that is capable of doing this without bricking my phone?
I've done this previously with my wizard, but I'm still a little unsteady on my feet,
I need clear easy to follow step by step newbie instructions if anybody has the time.
Any help greatly appreciated,
Cheers.

To change the actual boot splash which contains the operator logo and ROM info text you need to flash it! the TD (Niki) has 4 splash screen as follows:
1-Primary Splash (Operator Logo)
2-Secondary Splash again operator logo with the ROM Protocol info at the bottom of screen in red.
3-Splash Gif animation
4-Splash Welcomehead i.e. WM6 splash you get before Today loads.
Splash 3 and 4 can easily be changed as mentioned here. I think what you need is to change Splash 1 and 2 if you want to get rid of the Orange logo however this can only be done through flashing (via customRUU) so you must make sure your TD has HardSPL otherwise you will end up bricking the device if you haven't check this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
At the moment I can only change the 1st Splash but can't seem to change the 2nd splash once I can figure out how, I will post the necessary files here
Here is a thread that shows how change your PrimarySplash screen. You do need to flash it, but its not that hard to do.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361287
second one is easy to change. Just rename any .png picture to welcomehead.96.png and put in Windows folder on phone, replacing the one that's there. Then soft reset.
Thanks
Cheers fellas, I appreciate your help.
odd problem with Welcomehead 96
Tried overwriting the welcomehead.96 file but it can't be overwritten,
checked the properties of the file and all the options (read only etc) are greyed out?
Copied the file to my hard drive and it cannot be seen, even when I have the show hidden files folder option checked?
I'd hazard a guess that the PNG file is hard coded to the memory chip? so a Rom flash may be needed?
But I still can't work out why the copied PNG on my hard drive would behave the way it is,
maybe just having a thick attack.
I haven't come across this before, can anyone shed some light on it?

You can't overwrite files in the windows folder with the built in file explorer use Resco File Explorer or download freeware Total Commander from here: http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Thanks
Cheers gfreek,
I overwrote welcomehead 96 as recommended with Total Commander.

Here's how I changed both the 1st & 2nd Splash screens on my Wife's Touch Dual:
First create two splash screens (.i.e. PrimarySplash.nb & SecondarySplash.nb) using the methods & tools mentioned in PDAViet site.
1. Use Dark Simpson HTC ROM Tool
2. Select 'Hermes' as device
3. Fill in 'NIKI***' as Model ID (Instead of 'HERM***')
4. Select your Primary & Secondary Splash
5. Create the NBH file
6. Flash with the Touch Dual CustomRUU extracted from Niki Project's ROM.
Cheers!

I can't understand why??? am I missing something? all the splash I've used are QVGA 240x320 so they are the correct size!!
Appreciate your help on this one!

Update***SOLVED*** Once again thanks [email protected] for pointing me in the right direction however, to create the two splash (.i.e. PrimarySplash.nb & SecondarySplash.nb) using the methods & tools mentioned in PDAViet site and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361287 is "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NIKI" hence the reason I ended up getting corrupted splash screens (see the images in my last post)
The Correct Procedure is as Follows:
1. Make sure you have HardSPL installed if not get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
2. Create a BMP file in paint, size must be 240x320, save it as BMP 24bit.
3. Get SplashTool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334904
4. Load your BMP on nb_image_converter (included in SplashTool's zip) and save it as PrimarySplash do the same load another BMP and this time save as SecondarySplash
5. Open SplashTool.exe and convert both PrimarySplash.nb and SecondarySplash.nb to new format.
6. Use Dark Simpson HTC ROM Tool get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311909
7. Select 'Hermes' as device
8. Fill in 'NIKI***' as Model ID (Instead of 'HERM***')
9. Select your Primary & Secondary Splash
10. Create the NBH file
11. Flash with the Touch Dual CustomRUU get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356259
Enjoy your new splash screen

hack, hack, hack, all day long...

hey there...i was wondering if anyone could take a sec to help a n00b out...
i've been working on a rom (6.5 build 23544) using Ervius visual Kitchen for gene by BesFen for a few days...i've finally found all the packages i want and made a few ones myself...i made a test rom and its running well...
but there's still one huge hole left in my finished build...so i just needed some help i.e. needed to know a few things
1. where do i change the the default splash screen (the orange windows image) that pops up after the boot screen
2. where to replace the startup gif image and wav sound
3. how to set an external theme as my default and removing the inbuilt themes that come bundled with the 6.5 builds
4. how to change the default icons (i have an icon pack as well a cab file of the same)
5. if there is a way to set up a shutdown animation and splash screen in the kitchen before creating the rom
6. edit any other settings and tweaks while still in the kitchen phase
7. change the start menu icons for the softkey buttons and start menu
8. edit the taskbar and softkey bar to make it transparent on the today screen as well as inside the menu
9. remove default ringtones and replace them with our own
i tried searching the net and going through the posts here but i'm drawing blanks...
i'd appreciate any solutions that come my way!!
solutions!!
found a few solutions myself...a lil' help from the boards...
if anyone else is interested in them, here they are-
1. the splash screen can be changed by replacing the welcomehead.96.png in the "SYS\28230\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\COMMON\Redist_dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\" folder file with your own
while you're at it, you could replace the complete.96.gif file too
*but make sure that you have edited your images to the correct format and resolution before making the changes
2. the animated.gif and bootuphtc.wav files in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMOPERATORS" folder can be replaced with your own
4. add your icons in the "kitchen\SYS\28230\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96" folder thereby replacing the default icons
*make sure that the names of the icons you add to this folder is the same as the default icons
6. to change the rom's date and give it your own name, make changes in the "mxipupdate_OEMVERSION_100.provxml" file in the "kitchen\OEM\OLDGENE\COMMON\OEMVERSION" folder,
this can be done by opening the file in notepad and making your changes in the 'value' section
do correct me or suggest an easier method if known to you
as for problems 3,5,7,8 and 9...research and testing is underway...hope to get past that hurdle soon...
use the attached folder and put it inside OEM
solve your ringtone by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
solve your theme problem by editing the *.rgu file and initflashfiles.txt file available in this folder
Note: I have used two different mp3 file for ringtone n message notification

tried it out and yeah it works...thanx!!
any idea about gettin transparent task bars and menu bars??
i wanted to make them completely transparent, not transluscent...
i've gotten transluscent ones working in the start menu but i can't do anything about the today screen!!
i am also searching how to add new theme...but i found this is..

you could just add the theme you want ( in .tsk format) in the kitchen\SYS\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder...
tried it out and worked well...
all you have to do is go into settings\today\ when the phone starts and select which one you want...
as for setting your own theme as default...clueless...
guessing you have to extract all files from the theme and place them in the kitchen\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder and edit dsm and rgu's from somewhere to set it as default
personally...i've found a loophole to the whole theme problem (pardon the pun) so i don't bother with it anymore
more solutions...
3. to remove the inbuilt themes like dvf green, vera wang red, etc. etc. just delete the theme_dpi_96 folder in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON folder...
to add your own themes copy the .tsk files into the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320\0409\Themes_Lang_0409_DPI_96_RESH_240_RESV_320 folder and delete the inbuilt .tsk files you'll find there
*NOTE*
for those who want to have a modified theme, i suggest editing the .png images in the folder mentioned below...the ones with "classicblue" "default" and "black" at the start of their name to your preference and leaving the classicblue.tsk file untouched so that this theme becomes your own in case you install another theme and want to go back to your edited theme
7. edit the .png images in the kitchen\SYS\23544\dpi_96\COMMON\Base_DPI_96 folder...
the softkey icons are the ones with names like default_toolbarIconBubbleButton.png...they're all around the same area, so easy to find...
for editing, i suggest using photoshop of you have it, else an easier alternative is the paint.net editor available at http://paint.net
8. now i couldn't get a transparent taskbar and softkey bar on the today screen without using titanium but i did manage to get it to be fractionally more translucent but editing the .png files found in the folder mentioned above
i'll attach the files if needed...
my ROM's coming along so i'll keep you posted with more solutions as they come along...have fun cooking!!
Suggestion
Remove all landscape theme files, bcs no-one uses the GENE in landscape mode and it will make the ROM lighter in weight

[Q] 2.1 Bootanimation

Has anyone figured out how to change the boot animation?
It seems it's stored in /system/media/bootanimation.zip
I tried replacing the .PNG images inside the archive and that didn't work, although I might have messed up something. I'm just glad to be rid of that dreadful SE color splash until someone else finds a solution.
finished playing with this a little while ago... when you replace the files you must use no compression, ie store. i've attached one with the android robot waving (cropped from nexus) simple, but at least the splash is gone

1 root your phone
2 download rootexplorer(<---and install it) & any bootanimation.zip you want
3 open rootexplorer and go to your sdcard hold down your finger and choose copy
4 then go to system/media
5 at the upper of your root explorer its a button that says mount r/w make it says by pushing it mount r/o
6 push the button paste and then when it says ovewrite push yes
7 reboot and you r ready!!!!
if i make it a single file you will not have the option when the first animation is over the second to be anime it will be a still picture if you want that just leave one image in the second folder..because it have 2 phases of animation..!!!!(if you remember first when the colours where mixing and then the still image with sony ericsson logo and letters)
I've been trying to edit the desc.txt file so I can have a little more flexibility but even if I save it without making any changes it stops working.
After a look around the interwebs someone mentioned saving in the UNIX format, so I used Notepad ++ in UNIX and tried editing/saving in that but there's still problems, sometimes it doesn't work at all and sometimes it only shows the first folder.
Also, are there any limitations as to framerate and how many files can go in the part0/part1 folders (revision of enormous101's bootanimation.zip).
Finally, is it ok to add a part2?
do not use compression - use Winrar and select "store"

Nice thread!
I was wondering about the desc.txt file. I am using the Rogers 2.1 firmware and I want to remove the Rogers screen that shows up just before desktop loads. The PNG file for the Rogers screen is located in Anim5 and I was wondering if I just removed the entry for anim5 in the desc file, would that do the trick? I've already moved the original bootanimation.zip file onto my computer so it is backed up but I was just wondering if this would work. I am using a X10 but it seems like the file system is the same which is why I'm asking here. Any help would be appreciated!

if you dont know how to change desc.txt then dont...unzip the bootanimation.zip change the images inside anim5 folder and then zip it but at compression mode use ''store'' instead of everything else and just put it in your phone...i cant change your desc.txt and make it into two folders because i dont own x10...

Thanks for your response! From what I've been reading, it seems that if I remove the entry for anim5 in the desc.txt, that it won't load that animation. It just seems easier to do this than to replace the image in that folder. Though the problem would then be making changes to a UNIX based txt file using a Windows OS and then the phone not recognizing the desc.txt file based on it being in the wrong format.
Anyway, I suppose I could just copy over the last image in anim4 and replace the one in anim5 with that and that would be the easier solution (as per your suggestion).
Here is the thread I was reading where it describes the desc.txt file and how to modify your boot animation.

[HOW TO] REZOUND ICS BOOTANIMATIONs

I figured I would share with the community since people are finding ICS a little tricky
*JUST AN UPDATE. I FOUND THAT THE BEATS AND VZW FOLDERS CAN HAVE ANY NUMBER OF IMAGES*
What you need:
boot animation creator.exe (windows program) get it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234611 (credit to despotovski01)
7zip (windows program) http://www.7-zip.org/
fotosizer (windows program) http://www.fotosizer.com/
some type of boot animation (youtube video, collection of images, whatever)
the stock VZW boot animation (attached)
file explorer app (root explorer, es file explorer, etc)
Steps:
create a folder somewhere that you will be working from
in that folder, create a folder named VZW
use fotosizer to rename the images.
USE THESE SETTINGS : Preset size - original, destination folder (the folder you created earlier named VZW, output format - JPEG, file name mask (this is important) render_720x1280_compress %NNN
add your images to fotosizer and click start. it will output the images to the folder you chose all named "render_720x1280_compress xxx.jpeg"
grab the "beats" folder and the "android" folder from the stock animation
place these folders with VZW
open the boot animation creator.exe
choose the folder that contains beats, android and VZW and choose next
HERE IS THE TRICKY PART: the settings have to be like this or it wont work
android - 1 15
beats - 1 15
VZW - X 90 (x can be as many times as you want the image set in the VZW folder to repeat)
width - 720
height - 1280
speed - 15
choose next and save it anywhere you want. The file must be named Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip
Place the zip on your sd card and drop it where ever you ROM has its boot animation (either /system/customize/resource or /data/local or /system/media)
change the permissions to RW-R-R using a file explorer and reboot
IF YOU DON'T WANT THE BEATS ANIMATION:
use fotosizer once again to rename your first 35 images to "Beats Audio Animation as JPG Seq XX" the same way as you did with the VZW folder and place them in the "beats" folder
you will need to redo the naming process again for the VZW folder
follow the same steps for the bootanimation creator.exe program
IF YOU WANT LANDSCAPE
Simply open the folder that your images are stored in, single click on the first image, press and hold the shift key, click on the last image. right click and choose rotate clockwise. proceed as normal.
you can also create a flashable zip (include with the tools and credit Mr.Smith317) with the animation placed in the correct location
(there may be other ways of doing this process, but this ways has always worked without fail)
DOWNLOAD THE TOOLS
Adding sound :
grab your sound file. it must be an mp3 and shouldn't be longer than 15 seconds
rename it to android_audio.mp3
the default.xml file in /system/customize/CID needs to be edited
find this line 3/4 of the way down in the xml file
<BootAnimation animation="/system/customize/resource/Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip"
add this to the end
"audio="/system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3" audiostart="VZW"/>
the whole line should be
<BootAnimation animation="/system/customize/resource/Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip"audio="/system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3" audiostart="VZW"/>
*notice "/system/customize/resource/Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip? thats where your boot animation is stored*
place you audio mp3 file in the same folder as the boot animation
change permissions to RW-R-R
reboot
the sound will start to play when the VZW folder images start. if you want to change this edit this part of the line you added
audiostart="VZW"/> to what ever folder you want it to start at

so i have been asked to create a few custom boot animations. I dont mind doing stuff, but i have been swamped at work. I figured I would share with the community since people are finding ICS a little tricky
What you need:
boot animation creator.exe (windows program, attached)
7zip (windows program)
fotosizer (windows program)
some type of boot animation (you tube video, collection of images, whatever)
the stock VZW boot animation (attached)
file explorer
Steps:
create a folder somewhere that you will be working from
in that folder, create a folder named VZW
use fotosizer to rename the images.
USE THESE SETTINGS : Preset size - original, destination folder (the folder you created earlier named VZW, output format - JPEG, file name mask (this is important) render_720x1280_compress 0%N
add your images to fotosizer and click start. it will output the images to the folder you chose all named "render_720x1280_compress xxx.jpeg"
change the first 9 images so that they are named "render_720x1280_compress 001, 002, 003" etc
if you have more than 100 images rename them as "render_720x1280_compress 100, 101, 102" etc (the goal is to end up with the imaged names 001 to XXX consecutively)
grab the "beats" folder and the "android" folder from the stock animation
place these folders with VZW
open the boot animation creator.exe
choose the folder that contains beats, android and VZW
HERE IS THE TRICKY PART: the settings have to be like this or it wont work
android - 1 15
beats - 1 15

THANK YOU. i wanted to port my boot animation but it wasnt working. i cant wait to try.
I made a ton of boot animations a while back, mostly for the inc and EVO. I opened one of the stock Rezound ones up the other to look around inside at the files. Why are the folders duplicated? The one I looked at has 2 beats, 2 vzw, etc. They seem to have the exact same images in them.
Also. Which animation does what? On a couple if Roma I tried the.boot animation was different depending on how I booted. Doing a full power down and reboot was different than doing a hot reboot.

Hey man im not sure if you put the wrong thing in there or if i'm retarded, but the "Boot Animation Creator.exe" is a shortcut to the program not the program itself
Let me know if im missing something, thanks dude

They only need to have one set. Not sure which one you were looking at, but only one set is right
I think fastboot uses a different shortened animation

Fastboot doesn't show any animation at all unless you full power off as far as I know.

If you change "render_720x1280_compress 0%N" to "render_720x1280_compress %NNN" you don't have to go back and add the extra 0 to the first 9 or fix anything over 100.

Hell yeah man good job!
Sweet!! I wanted to make a boot animation for my phone.
Thanks
FPS?
First of all great guide, and congrats on making the first page. I was wondering if there was any way to increase the FPS (im trying to increase it to 25) of the boot animation, I've noticed that anytime I change it in boot animation creator, my animation doesn't work anymore. If I can't change it in the boot animation creator, what would be the best way to speed up the frames a bit? Thanks in advance.

First of all thank you OP for this walkthrough. I have a Vivid and haven't been able to get bootsounds to work. With a little guidance from post 2, we have bootsound!
Xarmox - In all the animations I've ever made, there should be a desc.txt in your animation's .zip, along with the image folders. In this .txt file, the first line will display "width height framespersecond". You should be able to speed it up/slow it down by editing the fps
Also to OP and anyone else who might be interested - if you leave off the audiostart="folder", it will just start the sound at the beginning of the animation, rather than looking for a specific folder name. This would allow other animations that don't use the same folder structure to utilize the sound. However if you only want your sound to start at a specific roll of images, this is a great addition!

thank you for the advice, the problem I'm having is that anytime i change the FPS in the desc.txt or in the boot animation program, my boot animation doesn't play on my phone when i boot up, it just shows the splash screen until the phone boots up. Its as if the ReZound won't play any boot animation unless its at 15 FPS.
I tried deleting every other image in the VZW folder and renamed them (I think this would give the appearance of ~30 FPS, when played at 15FPS), which isn't the preferred way, because its gonna make syncing up the sound that much more difficult. Maybe I could figure out a good pattern of frames to delete to give the appearance of 25 FPS.

Don't know if it would matter or not, but are you putting the edited desc.txt back with Store compression (file size and compressed size the same)? I use WinRAR to do this as it allows me to select compression level every time, but have to use 7zip for a lot of the other things I do that don't require Store compression, it seems to just know
Edit: Keep in mind I'm saying this without ever having played with a bootanimation for a Rezound. I have a buddy with one, if you're still having trouble I'll put one on his and see what I can do next time I see him. Or maybe OP can chime in with some knowledge

[HowTo] Change Bolt Boot Animations

Very simple and most know how but here's a breif walk through and a place all can share boot animation zips.
The zip will need to be renamed procicely the same as the one you are replacing.
Using a Root file manager go to the following directory:
/system/customize/resoucre/
These are the animation files below and a breif discription. Back the original up/disable by renaming it something like ( orig.sprint_bootup.zip or xxxsprint_bootup.zip )
i like to use the xxx method to force them alphabetically to the bottom of the directory to keep track of them.
1.) sprint_bootup.zip
#sprint logo during boot up
2.) sprint_shutdown.zip
#sprint logo shutting down phone
3.) hTC_bootup.zip
#preloaded htc boot up animations
4.) hTC_downanimation.zip
#preloaded htc shut down animation
5.) BM_startup_animation.zip
#preloaded htc boot up animation.
There also is 1 png file that is the 2nd wallpaper shown after the initial boot up HTC screen that has red text indicating your phone has been modified. The 1st screen / red text can not be removed here.
Png file = splash_screen.png
Please feel free to post links of your favorite boot animations and issues/questions you may have.
GoodLuck!

So to use this black boot image u have here.. after saving image file it needs to be renamed with extension .png then after that does it need to be placed into a zip file or do you rename it to hTC_bootup.zip and place in the resource folder?

They are a bunch of png files labled 1 to whatever inside the zips...
They have a file that tells them what speed to move and what dpi to play in...
There's a ton of bootanimation.zips around here on xda. I know rom toolbox has a ton. Just rename the stock one or delete it and put new one in its place with same name.
Ok so if im understanding. I want to keep the stock bolt bootup anymation just wanna get rid of the sprint one. Can i just delete the one from sprint and leave the other one?
