T-Mobile user - is the Optimus G right for me? - AT&T LG Optimus G

I'm on a T-Mobile contract, and I drool over the development support of the Nexus 4, but I need to have a SD card to put all my music on my phone. I plan on doing the N4 conversion, but I need the phone to do these things:
1) T-Mobile support for HSPA or LTE in New York City and Central NJ. Does T-Mobile LTE work on this phone?
2) SD card support
3) Tethering on T-Mobile. I don't have their official tethering plan but it works on my Galaxy S II CM10 rom.
Experiences?

T mobile lte will work once they turn on it. This phone uses band 4 and 17 and t mobile uses band 4 for lte.

Thanks. I wonder if it's possible to flash the T-Mobile radio from the N4 and it would work. Since they're basically the same phone...
I haven't gotten the phone yet so I can't test.

Woah so your saying the E970 will be compatable on T-Mobiles LTE Network? Im in washington DC BTW.

If you sim unlock it, you bet.

Um, you shouldn't be so quick to answer incorrectly. It'll only work in the cities that tmo has refarmed. Google it for the list of cities. Search term "t mobile spectrum refarming".

Yes double this. I just switched my optimus g to tmobile and it will definately pick up edge but hspa+ is in some areas. Fortunately im in washington DC so its cool sometimes. Unless im moving around in dc then its just a constant in and out. It seems like Tmobile is 1 full step behind at&t when it comes to service and data. They go from hspa+ in dc to Edge but on at&t at least it goes from lte to hspa+ also the quality does not drop anywhere near as much. Tmobile feels like a souped up prepaid service.

My money is on T-mobile. For almost half the monthly cost of AT&T, i get consistent hspa+ speeds of 10-12mb down and 1-2mb up, in my city's refarmed 1900mhz T-mobile market. When T-mobile flips the switch on their LTE, it will be comparable to AT&T/Verison/Sprint LTE, with faster fallback hspa+ speeds and at significant cost savings to boot imo.

Gt-I9300 international on U.S. T-mobile

Just curious, I have the international and I am on T-mobile in the U.S.
Will the I international ever be able to attain 4G Speeds on T-mobiles network? For instance once quad cores become the norm in phones (like they are on the verge of doing).
Or would I be better off selling and getting a T-mobile g3?
Thanks in advance.

Ok. 3g would be great. For the most part that is what is in most areas anyway. I just wasn't sure if it was our phone that didn't have the right radios or if it was T-mobile/other carriers that didn't have the right modems for our exynos.

No HSPA for Tmobile only EDGE for the DNA because Tmobile has to use 1700Mhz instead of 1900Mhz for UMTS...AT&T will get HSPA
Yes it will work, BUT, only in a select few cities that T-Mobile has already switched to 1900mhz. So I'd check if your area has switched to 1900 first or you will be stuck on edge.

I was using Solavei (MVNO of T-mobile) and in the video link below, you can see my SpeedTest.net test. From Houston as well, but towards the outskirts. My apt has about half the signal strength of surround areas for every carrier. Not a complete dead zone by far though.

My secondary phone is a Galaxy Nexus with the $30 prepaid plan from T-Mobile. I live in the Mundelein / Vernon Hills area of Illinois. If I run speed test on my Nexus right now (doing it as I type this) I get the following download results:
T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus:
1st Test: 7.2Mbps
2nd Test: 6.1Mbps
3rd Test: 4.2Mbps the third time. Kind of afraid of running it a fourth time the way it's going. . .
4th Test: 5.8Mbps
If I put my SIM card on the DNA (actually shows a H logo which I'm guessing is for HSPA) here are my results:
T-Mobile Droid DNA
1st Test: 3.7Mbps
2nd Test: 5.0Mbps
3rd Test: 5.4Mbps
4th Test: 5.0Mbps
Just for fun here are my results with Verizon LTE:
1st Test: 3.7Mbps
2nd Test: 3.162Mbps
3rd Test: 2.8Mbps
4th Test: 7.2Mbps
Normally I do get much better LTE speeds than that but that's what I got today. Just for the record, at no point did I change any settings anywhere, I just switched the SIM cards.

HTC Rezound on Simple Mobile with 3g /HSPA /LTE?

I have my rezound on the leaked Global update rom on Simple Mobile $40 plan. I am in Indianapolis, Indiana and moving soon to

does anyone have simple mobile in Denver Colorado and have a rezound on it? Are you getting any 3g or better speeds. If so how did you get the better speeds? I read that Denver has been refarmed as someone with an iphone 5 has 3g service. I will be moving to Denver on March 1 so just wanting to see... I am in Indianapolis which so far i only have edge speeds... unless i need to edit something....
The only way it would work is if you could get a plan using att network through simple plan and do the radio edits described in the link above. Otherwise, gl until T-Mobile launches there new platform.

LG G2 Tmo or ATT: Which has more bands?

Hello,
ATT user here currently on Note 2. I'm planning on buying G2 off contract and I'm debating between ATT and Tmo. Verizon is out because although it has SIM card it won't access LTE on GSM.
I understand that Tmo has all the bands ATT does and more, is that true? Would that explain why it's $600 on Tmo site and $580 on ATT? I looked at their respective wiki's and product page but they don't provide consistent descriptions. If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated

I know the Moto X has more bands for Tmobile's version vs. AT&T. I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for the LG G2 as well
From Wikipedia:
D800 ZNFD800 AT&T 850/1900/2100 LTE 2, 4, 5, 17
D801 ZNFD801 T-mobile 850/1700/1900/2100 LTE 2, 4, 17
TMO supports AWS, unlike AT&T. AT&T supports LTE band 5, unlike TMO.
this doesn't answer the OP's question, but, i have a sim unlocked att G2 and i can get 4G and 4G LTE service with my T-Mobile sim/account. coverage is not as good as at&t in my location.
Awesome, thanks Sacrosaint!
I went through the LTE wiki, it seems like 5 is not that prevalent. Seems like the Bahamas, South Korea, Belize...it seems to me that Tmo would be the better choice, no? What with its use of the AWS spectrum and all. I'm still on ATT for another year so I won't be jumping ship yet (by then I guess the G3 would be out...)
The only concern is whether ATT's LTE-A frequency can be grabbed by the Tmo version, whenever it launches...

Not sure of the truth to that. Verizon, T-mobile, and At&t all support LTE band 4 which is AWS 1700. It might be more likely a carrier lock that prevents you from getting full coverage?

Well, since t-mobile's 3g/umts is predominantly on the AWS 1700 band, utilizing a t-mobile SIM on the at&t model will result in sparse coverage for 3g, short of roaming. I understand t-mobile has built out some of their 3g on 1900 as well so that would work for you. Based off of frequency support, I would say the t-mobile version is the better one to unlock and potentially use between at&t and t-mobile networks. LTE band 5 support doesn't buy you anything domestically.

Thank you everyone for your input . Guess Tmo it is.
Though...One wonders what their software support is like...I read that since they do wifi calling they're updates have to go through extra approval above and beyond the othercarriers because they have to deal with the FCC?

I have an unlocked T-MO LG G2. I recently swithced to AT&T (which only benefit is greater coverage area bc HSPA+ is way slower than T-MO) however my phone is not showing 4G LTE only 4G. when i searched for networks the very first time it listed AT&T LTE but would not let me connect and now it doesn't even show up in the network search. Does the T-Mo variant block a certain frequency used for AT&T LTE ??

Incorrect. T-Mobile devices support ALL AT&T and T-Mobile bands, except LTE Band 5 (used by AT&T in a few rural areas). What's wrong is AT&T turns off LTE for non-AT&T devices. You have to call them up and give them the IMEI # of an AT&T-branded device (even if it's not yours and even if your SIM isn't in it/you don't plan on using it). They don't check after that.

There's no unlocking that Ive ever heard of. It sounds like you just get poor reception. Probably an area that doesn't get 4g or Lte. Check Tmobile coverage map.

Yeah, my guess is coverage too. Do go in and check that option that they listed above for your network type. In your situation I would try setting it to WCDMA Only - this will FORCE it to connect to 4G (HSPA+) and if you have no signal for 4g you will have 0 bars so it is a good test to see how that signal is in your area aside from the network map.
You will only be able to use T-Mobile HSPA+ if you are using a T-Mobile branded S5. The AT&T S5 does not support the 1700 AWS band from T-Mobile so you will not be able to get it and will only have access to 2G/3G/4G and LTE (no 4G+)

I'm new to T-Mobile, was a HSPA+ ever discovered for us? Any way to get it on the S5 yet?

Thanks, I'm using a branded t mobile s5 but I'm either on edge or 4G, mostly edge. I didn't realize hspa+ was just another word for 4g. So I guess I'm stuck with edge

T-Mobile rural coverage is quite poor in most areas, however they've committed to modernizing their rural areas now that they've got the major centers but it might take a year or better to get it all done. I'm planning to go to at&t in great meantime now that their rates have come down. I'm stuck in 2g land at home and work here

Hopefully they fix the service period, there's times when I'm full LTE but can't connect to anything.
