Group messaging - AT&T HTC One (M7)

So as much as I love this phone the one gripe I have is there is no group messaging option for us stock users. What do you guys use as far as a good messaging app? I love the stock messaging app just wish there was a group messaging option.

There's an option for group messaging either thru SMS or MMS

Where? I feel like I'm missing something. I can start a group message but if I receive a message and its a group message I get everyone's replies individually in separate threads.

I just wish there was a way to put all of those group messages in one thread. I hate seeing then separately.

I had the same problem but fixed it. Just go to your messages app and then go to settings. From there go to Multimedia messages (MMS). Then turn on group messaging and voila.

Yup, he hit it right on the money. I found this the first day in the same place. Again it's located in your MMS settings in the messaging app.

Thanks guys! Yeah I did that but it's weird, mine shows up as multimedia messages in individual threads. I don't know what else to do.

Are you trying this with a newly made group MMS? If you sent a group MMS previously and your friends are replying to that, it may not work. Try starting a new one.

Well my buddy started a group message and I received his message and everyone else's message in separate threads rather than all in one thread.

I don't believe you effect a group started by someone else. Especially iphone users. Hate when they include me.

I use GO SMS for group messaging and stock messaging for individual texts.
Edit: I enabled it and it works great! I had my bro send a group message through his iPhone and it works! No more Go SMS or Handcent! I love this phone more and more everyday.

Hello guys. I just got my HTC One. I have enabled group messaging from the MMS setting menu and have sent out a few group messages but I'm still getting responses individually. Any idea what would be the problem? Thanks!

If you sent to people who don't have group messaging...you will get individual responses because they don't have the option. I.e....I sent out a group msg to people with iPhones, HTC one and Samsung Galaxies...only the iPhone and One users were able to respond in the same group thread. The Samsung users responses were individual. I believe it's not an option on every android so there are alternatives like GO SMS and Handcent but they can be buggy. I am so GLAD that HTC embedded this option on the One. This was another reason why I chose this over the S4.
Edit: I was wrong, the S4 also has the group mms option.

I have sent a group message to a group of iphone users and still got individual messages back. I'm not sure what is going on??

Leave the send as individual messages box UNchecked.

Group messaging was established system wide with 4.2.2, update to a ROM with 4.2.2 and it will work great..If you don't want to upgrade and/or use a different SMS app...I love Textra SMS ...very simple and does group messaging perfectly.

I second this. I use Textra and it's fabulous. Group Messaging works flawlessly.

Does anyone find that when sending group messages through the stock sense app to be really slow? Its like I have to wait a few seconds for the group message to go through. It really annoying

Yeah it tends to be a little slow but it's because it's converting to sms to mms message.

You all need to download TEXTRA Messaging app from the market. Works flawlessly and emoji support. Best text message app out. Updated frequently.

[Q] Group Texting on S3/Android

I recently decided enough with Apple/the iphone and so far I am absolutely loving my S3 and android in general. My only major issue is group messaging within the stock messages app.
With the iPhone it would show me in a group text who messages are also sent to and allow me to reply to all within the group.
Is there a particular setting to allow this on the S3 messaging app? I really like the look/theme of the app and would love this functionality. I do realize there are 3rd party messaging apps out there but I wasn't sure if I was missing anything.
Thanks.
It's not possible with the stock sms app, or even the samsung sms app. You need a 3rd party app like GoSMS Pro, or Handcent. There is a setting in each which enables it.
What it does is it combines the MMS's for you when they come in....so at first they come in as "download"...after they download, they go into the correct thread.
Yes it is just add multiple recipients and then send.

Yea, but when the message comes back, it doesn't group the recipients back (if your recipient replied to all). Don't see a way to reply to all either...in the case that someone sends you a group text.

I see this as well. It's a shame since other phones already have the ability.

You can group people together. You can select a group(s) to have your message sent to. If your friends have only one phone number in your contacts it won't ask which one to use, and unfortunately it doesn't remember which ones you picked the next time you start a new conversation (it does remember in the thread). Unless they can reply to all, the responding messages show up as a new thread.
Perhaps you can do this with the ATT MyMsgs app, I don't know.

I heard that the ATT Messages app supports group texting, but you can't initiate a group text...very odd if its true.

Group messaging problems

So I asked this in the Verizon forum but I figured that I might get more responses over here
Basically my problem is when I send a group message to everyone they all get it at the same time just fine but when someone replies to it I get the message individually and its sent to its own thread. Is this a known issue? Id honestly assume that group messaging would work much like that of the Iphones where the group would have its own chat and it would say in the same exact chat who said what. Is anyone else having this problem? If so how do I fix it? Im running stock everything not rooted at all and im using the stock messaging application.
I know that messages can be forwarded to a group but can you create a "chat group" using stock mms app?

yup I tested it out. There is an option in the settings to allow group conversations and among that when you are making one you have the option to send the message to the other parties separately or if you want it sent as a group convo

[Q] Group Messaging

HTC One X+ AT&T. I can't find a rhyme/reason on Group messaging. I can send out a group message (and others see it as that) as long as it's media (MMS). If anyone replies as text, it doesn't stay in the group. If I send out a group message that's text only, it's sent at an SMS, which completely defeats the purpose. Here are my questions:
Is there an app to replace the HTC one that resolves this?
Can I install the app from 4.2? (I understand this is resolved in 4.2).
Try GoSMS pro from the app store. Its unbelievable that Google didn't address this earlier but I think its fixed in JB 4.2.

I have GoSMS Pro, and there is an option in settings to enable MMS group messaging. It's not perfect, since my popups still show just the MMS icon, but at least works from within the app.
I use GroupMe for group messing. I also use GoSMS Pro, but you can't send mms messages with it. Have to use stock SMS program for picture messages
Handcent's group messaging works flawlessly.

So I have to choose whether or not I'm sending a SMS or MMS before I send the message? I thought Group Messages were actually MMS messages? Is it possible to load the "fixed" 4.2 app on an unlocked One X+? I mean, this kinda blows. My iPhone and even Lumia 920 did this fine...

[Q] Group Texting?

Has anyone gotten the group texting that works on the S3 working on the S4?
Bump.
Delivered by GS4.
Group texting as in it turns a message to multiple recipients into a MMS message so everyone can see the original message and all replies? If so, it's been working just fine for me
Weird. I don't even get the prompt that my other friends do. Can you upload your messaging.apk?

I'm actually using handcent atm, but I will test with the stock messaging app & let you know how it goes

I don't even have the option for it, yet everyone else I know has it on their phone. I guess I'll try to rip it from a Verizon ROM.

My group messaging does not work. Everyone thats in my group gets an individual text message. It shows that it was sent as a MMS.
please help,
thanks
This is where Handcent or Handcent Pro Beta flourishes, It works good. If you install it just disable your stock "Message" program under Applications > All.

Iphone group messages

I have had cm11 installed for several months. I cannot receive messages from Iphones in a group message. All other messages are fine from all other phones. If someone with an iphone sends me a direct message I receive it. However if I am in a group message with iphones thier messages are blank. Does anyone know how I can fix this.
I am running the most recent CM11 nightly. I was always able to get MMS from Iphones on stock. Since rooting and installing CM11 I cannot receive group messages from Iphones. It just comes in as a blank message.
My data is on. I have tried adjusting VPN settings (although maybe incorrectly). I would have posted this in the Official CM11 thread but I dont have enough post. I have been on the site for years I just read and never post.

Just out of Curiosity what SMS app are you using? If you're using the Default app do you have group messaging clicked in the settings menu?
I use the default messaging app. I installed others but it was the same
