HBO GO on the HTC One? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

How is the HBO's streaming service on your HTC One? For some reason or another, the highest streaming quality I can attain is 480p. Why is this? My Internet is strong, my brother's iPhone outputs 720p, yet I'm stuck with poorer quality.
Can anyone else who has HBO GO comment on the streaming quality on their device? I'd to really like to know if it's an isolated issue or widespread.

How does one check the bit rate of the stream?

Good question. I'm not sure but the quality is downright poor. It's odd because other apps like Hulu stream in HD fine.

Not that it matters for as I cant even login to HBO Go, MAX GO works just fine....wth

Mine seems ok as u can see from the screen shot I tried to get here...but it can get blocky at times I noticed...but for the most part it's fairly clear....if u look at the app page in play store seems like there are a lot of complaints about how the app is bad lately....maybe there's something wrong in general....

They will probably declare bankruptcy soon but they do have a nice Netflix type deal which they let you rent both movies and games through the mail. I am interested in the game option since it appears to be cheaper than Gamefly or any of the other mail-rental game businesses.

lol... good Q... I think netflix shut them down... and stream what videos.. its 3g... at least on 4g the videos are HQ like u would see on wifi... on 3g its gona be blurry as a crap... so why would u pay money to watch a movie that will be chopped need buffering all the time and low quality?
the blockbuster app is coded to look for fascinate software, could be a simple build.prop edit but I doubt it. It looks for something that tells the app the phone is a fascinate. Disable the app to not look for a device i.d and it might work
the blockbuster app is overpriced crap. Just wait for MediaHub.

Does netflix freeze for anyone else?

I will be watching it and it will randomly freeze but I can still hear the sound. I'm on alpha 2.1 with the newest netflix. Do I need a different version of netflix?

I don't have that problem. With one of the newer updates Netflix goes to Tablet mode instead of looking like it's made for a phone. And the video quality is very decent, at least for Star Trek and Spongebob it is.

Its is one of the most powerful android phones available currently, top 5.
Please attempt to do some research in the future, before posting such a blatant question
i never did get this why in the world do you want a 1080p video on a 5 inch screen. the only reason i can logically see is if you already had 1080p videos encoded.

U are absolutely right. Bragging rights, in combination that the large majority want the latest and greatest and don't fully understand how it works
thanks for clearing things up,
before asking these blatant questions,
i have done a good amount of reseach
and i was getting different answers,
i probably will never ever watch 1080p on the 5 inch screen but my quetion was meant to find out what it could do rather than what i will do with it.

Question about YouTube HD videos?

Hey I am using my WiFi and get around 20 mbps down and 10 up. Why when watching HD videos on YouTube it has to stop and start buffering around ever 45 seconds? I watched a 4 minute video and it had to stop ad start around 5 times. Quiet annoying I'd say. 20 down and 10 up isn't good enough to watch a 4 minute long HD video on a cell phone? Anyone else experienced this?

Easy you install the YouTube HD apk on your E4GT gsii and you'll have HD/HQ. Also the sgsiii is 720, wrong model. Even though the gsii is not 720 the HD difference is noticeable. Back on topic I think that's just YouTube, it does it on every phone I've used HD on.

I've noticed the same thing,I primarily use the YouTube app but with exception to those videos that have to play from browser I get the same issue with buffering, no matter if its 3G or wifi. definitely a big difference when compared to Netflix app streaming ability.I can pause rewind fast forward play pretty seamlessly.

The official youtube app has to stop and buffer every 20-30 sec for me even on wifi.If I watch the same video on full screen through youtube.com on the stock browser there isn't any buffering at all.Maybe their next update will fix it.

Recording in Slow Motion Looks really bad

I have seen a couple of videos on here where they were recorded in slow motion and those videos looked great, however, I have tried a few times and they always come out looking really bad. (grainy, and blurry). I have tried with all the settings left on auto and also setting things up manually as well (like white balance and ISO).
Is there settings that I am missing to make these videos look as good as they do while recording at normal speed?
Here is the link to the video I shot:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjcqQhUIJq0
Also does the camera not record in HD while doing Slow Motion?
I can't help you on making it look better but it doesn't record in HD. The ending resolution ends up being 768 x 432.

It's probably the light. I think the only reason it goes to HD on the youtube video is because the beginning part might be in HD. I still see the grainy lines on the youtube video and in the slow motion videos I shoot.

I think it's HD on YouTube because the user had to edit it on the computer. (Add music) so I think he saved it in a way that YouTube thought it was HD.
I've noticed that I have to edit files in order for YouTube to have a HD option even though the phone records in HD and saves it as a .MP4.

There is a camera setting. If you touch the "A" you will see the option
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE
Yeah, the camera does not do HD for slow motion, due to the significantly higher data rates the camera must sustain to do slow motion. It's essentially recording at 120fps or so, which is four times the speed it would record at otherwise. To record in HD, it would require four times the bandwidth and processing power that it does at normal speed.
I've had this phone since it came out and never knew it has that setting.
What is "HDR"?

There are other phones using android that CAN do slow motion HD recording. I assume that this is a software limitation on HTC's part rather than a hardware limitation as the camera on this phone is quite impressive to say the least. Even with my limited knowledge of the inner workings of the android software I would venture to guess that this can at least be brought to 720p slow motion recording. However a speedier SD card may be needed. Man I wish I knew how to dig into Android, I want this camera to be BEAST!
