Experience PRO "Tap to Wake" function - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi everyone,
since I rooted my Ultra I tried to find something useful besides using Titanium Backup to restore all the apps I had on my S3...
I found out some time ago that the tablet Z has the "Tap to Wake" function, and began searching for a solution for the ultra: the app in the title seems to fit perfectly, as it doesn't require any special kernel or framework (it does need busybox installed, but hey, I'd have installed it anyway) for any of its functionalities to work.
BUT, I actually don't want to spend even 2 bucks for the app if it doesn't work.
As I read in the specific thread on XDA, support is a little bit lacking, and while starting the test app it says my Ultra is compatible, several reviews say they were supposed to have compatible devices but the app has never worked.
Anyone has already tried it? Or has any alternative?

Yeah I do know that, but I also downloaded the test app, and it said it was compatible but not yet listed as so...
Guess I'll stay away and wait for a kernel that supports it...

very good question

I'd love a tap to wake option.

I have been using Automaton for a day or two. I use a simple sunglasses sleeve(large-stretchy) while I wait for a slow boat case.
Automaton uses proximity sensors to give wake features like the S4. When I pull it from the case or pocket, instant on. I haven't figured out getting it to go straight to home screen. There is an option.
Also just setting it upside down on a flat surface will then put it to sleep.
I hope this helps.

Nfc usage? Please give ideas

Hey guys
so i have a rooted phone using flapjaxx aosp 0.6a and ive used others too.
I saw someone earlier from a different thread that his nfc was not working anymore after updating the rom.
Which made me curious what nfc function is that? What nfc usage could that be?
I was told before that here in the US, nfc is not yet being used, but that was around feb. Is it still the same case as today?
Could you pls share your experiences on how to our Att note (here in the US) today?
Thanks

The usage of NFC could be various. If your doorlock supports NFC, you can use your Galaxy Note as your key, OR you can pay your transit fares with it (if they have a reader), etc. Simply, NFC can be a replacement of your wallet. Also, you can google "android beam". I think that uses NFC as well.
Look at this it has all the NFC info
http://bit.ly/PcHnoP
Lol .. I know what NFC is.
I'm asking for real time usages with our Note from your experiences. Or atleast how you did it.
I know google wallet can be used for this but I don't think it can be done as of now.
Oh well, Thanks anyway.

you can use the NFC to communicate with NFC stickers they sell on ebay, and program them to change things like phone settings and profiles by just putting your phone closed to the sticker.
Download NFC Task Launcher and you'll see.
Soon enough, we can turn our cars on with NFC lol. or maybe even set cruise control, set a/c on or off, etc...with NFC.
here's an example usage:
install TecTile app on your phone, buy a TecTile sticker
program the sticker to launch the navigator
i place the sticker on my car
when i get in my car i just wave the phone over the sticker and the navigation app opens
second example - at work i have an nfc sticker on my desk - when i get to work, the nfc disables my ringer and connects me to work wifi - disable 4G

its cool and all, but Tasker does all of these things automatically

I have a tag under my center console lid in my car. Tap it and turns off Wifi, turns on BT. Tap it again, reverses the process.
I made a tag for my PS3 controller. Tap it once to open sixaxis control app, prompt for IME change, enable auto-rotation, go back to home screen (where games and emulators are). Tap it again, reverses all of that.
I tried making one that will auto connect and enter the PW for my Wifi, but couldn't get it to work.
There are TONS of possibilities. The NFC apps have a lot of options, but you can also call any Tasker task. And Tasker is very powerful.
Nice. Those are great ideas. I will look into those stickers.
All I've used the NFC for so far is seeing what data's being transmitted via the chip in my various credit cards, IDs and passport.
Oh and someone I met had an RFID/NFC chip in their business card, that was neat.

oclock watch faces in Omate active?

I downloaded the o'clock app but cannot set any of the great watchfaces to use or find any settings that lets its show one watch face per day or any other time. Is there a way yet?

Seeing that there's at least 4 or 5 different x201 devices in this forum, knowing what one you have will help. Also knowing what app you are refering too allos help as there is the Omatefaces and Kurt's Watchfaces apps and maybe one other.
Ahh sorry. I have the Omate True Smart watch. It just arrived last week. I'm not sure what else to tell you. I'm referring to the o'clock app from the ostore.

When you first launch the app (v1.9.0) it gives you the following onscreen instructions;
Fling sideways to switch faces
Fling up and down to switch themes
Double tap to open options
In settings at the very bottom under "Premium options" is;
Switch face every 15secs
Lockscreen face
Have you patched you TS yet? If not, you may want to do that.
Ahh ok so the app wasn't working right. I remember seeing that when I first installed that oclock app but the double tap option stopped working. I resolved it by removing the app and installing it again. It's working now. THANKS.

Sorry for going of topic but...
You said "many different Omate" - I really hope MotherBoard is same on all and we could use same kernels.
It would be terrible if we have five or six different devices - I really doubt there will be development for all of them.
You, as a developer, could maintain two, maybe three devices simultaneously..

There's already four different boards that I know of. I only have access to one, soon to be two. That's part of the reason the ROM it taking so long to get out. The ROM base is the same but it's requiring at least two different kernels so far and the 1/8 EU 2100 has yet to come out yet.
Why so many different boards. With the exception of the 1900 and 2100 isnt the rest of the ts the same?

PR early 512/4 2100
PR late 512/4 2100
512/4 EU 2100
1/8 1900
1/8 2100
And that's just what Omate has produced.
So everytime there is a new board produced it changes firmware? Or what does change? I'll Google it so you don't have to explain it to me boob here I'm mean noon :good:

The current version of the app is v1.10.0 which can be found on the Play Store.
What do you mean the app does not work? Does it not launch? Does it lock up? What doesn't work?
I can not update it from the app and I don't see this app on Play Store.
It is not launch, How can I launch it and when I click on something like massages it is not working.
Thanks, and have a good day,
Arie.

WatchOn app?

I'm having trouble getting the WatchOn app to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Seems like it works randomly. My OTS would turn on out of no where but never from the actions I defined.
I think this may have something to do with the sensors not working properly right now.

I liked the style of the app and the config page made me feel it would turn on when I wanted it, but the screen never ever ever never turned on once using it.
I tried a Screen Shake On app from play store, but it would only work for about two minutes after the screen went dark. Now I just push the power button, but am keeping my eye out for a good app to get this function.

Interestingly I've noticed that the app works great...as long as i'm connected to an external power supply. If i disconnect it...you know, to wear it or something...then it doesn't work.

There are known issues with the sensors on this device. Not much to be done about it until kernel source gets released.

Am I correct in thinking it is theoretically possible that an official firmware that fixes the problem could be released without the kernel source being released? (Trying to understand where the problem has to be fixed, as a matter of interest.)

Is this related to why the calibration screen appears to be perfectly consistent and it looks like the sensors are fine, but then once the screen has gone to sleep, it will wake up again for movements and orientations that seem to bear no resemblance to how it was set?
At one point I was halfway convinced that it was consistently waking up when I had the watch rotated to about 30 degrees closer to vertical and 45 degrees counterclockwise (using the face as the clock) from the settings I'd given it, but then I concluded I must have been inexplicably inebriated when I determined that.

I don't have any app of this type loaded at the moment. Sometimes I still catch the screen on. So, don't assume every time you see it lit up it's because of the WatchOn app. This thing is just 7 kinds of silly and does what it wants.

They still have not fixed the security and root issues I told them about in November. Mainly because they lack the skills. The only reason the sensors and app work on the EU 512/4 is because I fixed it by pulling the kernel from another x201.

I gather that means yes, theoretically, but it's far less likely.
I've installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adl.appshakerShake and it seems to work pretty consistently (although the balance I have found for being able to activate it when I want without it activating because I scratched my nose or something is at a sensitivity of 9, which roughly translates to "vigorously rotate my wrist back and forth for about a second."
I just remembered I haven't reinstalled E-Robot since my last flash and I never got around to trying to use it to create a "turn the screen on when the watch shakes a lot" action; I may try that soon.
Shake is one of the very few that do work. I haven't tested them all but may include it in the next release as well as remote camera control for those that are doing the BT companion workaround.

Action when shaken: Simple - Turn Screen On
Sensitivity: 8 is working well for me, I recommend trying a little higher while you're attempting to get it to work...8 is a pretty vigorous back-and-forth rotation of the wrist for me.
Service State: On
Start at Phone Startup: checked
Active when screen is off: checked
Battery saving mode: unchecked
Vibrate when shaken: checked
Notify when shaken: checked (I think Turn Screen On is one of the actions for which this doesn't do anything)
Most shake or position based wake apps do not work on the 1/8 1900. Even Shake is inconsistent and it's the best so far.

I don't have my Ultra here with me right now, so I can't check myself if the pen input works on 4.4, but I guess we could check in with other people around here.
Or you could downgrade to 4.3 again if pen input is really important to you. A bugfixing update is scheduled for release next week though, so you should maybe just hang on there and wait. Maybe it'll be fixed.

After looking through the kernel sources for Sony's 4.4.2 they have changed how the pen input works in in this release, it is still there but has many more options to configure it when the kernel is built. They have also introduced touch pressure code into the TS driver - could be interesting where this leads to...
Also note that an after-market screen protector on top of the ASF will lessen how effective a pen will be.
I just tested Sony's 4.4.2 with DooMLorD's kernel and a pen worked ok, but not perfectly, but a slightly fatter tipped metal object (Temp. probe for a digital thermometer) worked perfectly with two screen protectors.

IR Remote App

Hi all, I'm sure not everyone uses the IR blaster and the quick remote app but here's to those who use it daily.
The LG quick remote app, isn't really that quick - no widget, or quick access from your homescreen, afaik. Other apps I use to find handy was the anymote but somehow, it shows that the LG v20 is unable to learn new codes, which is totally false since the LG app is able to do that.
Does anyone have a better recommendation of the app they use? Feel free to chip in please!

Galaxy remote looks pretty sleek! Fingers crossed it learns code on the v20 too!
I use anymote from the play store. Out of all I've tried, it's the best one so far
I'm definitely one of those who use the IR Blaster daily and it was a major factor in getting the v20, but unfortunately from what I've read LG doesn't follow standard IR protocols so most universal apps claim to not support LG devices. I used to use Smart Remote (which eventually turned into Anymote) and none of my devices work with it so can't use it, and I haven't tried peel yet but I have tried a lot of other different IR apps and the couple that actually worked seemed to be spotty at best. I was really disappointed that I can't use Anymote because I loved the way I had it setup and I've been forced to use quick remote which like the OP said basically sucks, so I'm really hoping someone figures something out or is able to find a universal app that works the way it should with this phone.

Ok thanks for the info I'll definitely give it shot and post my results whenever I get a chance. I was also going to edit my previous post because I came across a decent IR app on the Play store I had never heard of before called "Sure", and I haven't had a chance to see if recording is available or not and if it works or if includes any widgets yet. I can say it does cover a huge amount of devices and all of the ones I've tried so far work exactly like they should, I only had a few minutes to mess with it this afternoon but so far it seems like a pretty decent app.

and i'll be Sure to take a look at that too. Haven't had time to tinker with the app yet. Yeah, anymote needs to have the alternate ir control thing on for it to work.
another thing is the blaster's ranges seems to be intermittent at times, or perhaps just a very narrow direct pointing field. most times it has to be direct for the commands to work.
keep them coming!

and i'll be Sure to take a look at that too.

I could have sworn I saw it in widgets. I just checked and it's not there.
I found this though.

Just from using for 2 days I can already completely agree with you on that! What really blew me away was the ability to create a custom button that you can manually add the hex or decimal ir code to! I've had this hdmi switch that I got a long time ago (and of course it was missing the remote) that I had all but given up on because I could never find it listed as a device on any of the apps I've tried, and when I figured out you could manually enter ir hex codes with Galaxy I looked it up online and found them.. and then Bob's your uncle I can control it with my phone now! I'm sure there are probably other apps that also let you manually add the ir codes, but that along with all of the customization options and being able to add widgets makes Galaxy the best one imo too!

haha, yeah. on that note, i must say the quick bulletin doesn't really serve much use. i miss the old days of my HTC one with the quick feed and integration.
i'm currently trying to figure out how to decode the ir commands since galaxy does not learn the codes or have the codes to my devices. T__T

i've been raking the net for codes for my panasonic wall fan, and this europace casement air-conditioning unit.
hitting a stump there, if only i could figure out how to rip those codes off the different apps.
I like anymote the best been using it since my note 2

Have you tried using the code scan feature that Galaxy has to see if it finds it? I'm kind of in the same boat with an oscillating floor fan that I have in my room, and after 2 days of searching online I finally emailed the Galaxy devs last night to see if they could send me the code. I was surprised because they actually responded pretty quickly and they suggested I try the scan option and see if it finds it (I knew it was there but I completely forgot to try it so as soon as I get home from work I'm going to give it a shot), and they said if that doesn't work then they should be able to find the code I need and send it to me. So I have to say Galaxy Universal was worth every penny and I can't say enough good things about it!
As far as ripping codes off of other apps that would be awesome and yeah I wouldn't even know where to begin. One thing I've been wondering ever since I found out quick remote can record IR codes (meaning that our IR blasters can also receive), is if it would be possible for someone to create an app that could show the IR hex codes of whatever remotes you point at it because that would be forkin awesome. I have no idea what the limitations are though I just figured if quick remote can duplicate an IR code from another remote, you'd think it would at least be possible to create an app that can display the code info instead of just duplicating it. Anyway hope you get it figured out and if I'm able to get mine working I'll post the results.
