How to disable QSlide bar from notification dropdown. - G2 General

Here's a quick image I whipped up to show you how to turn off the annoying QSlide apps bar in the notification dropdown.
Sorry if everyone already knew this, but I just now figured it out, so I figured maybe others could benefit too.

I'm guessing the OP has the Verizon version, and you have the AT&T version (like me). Verizon removed them from the notification window but AT&T did not.
Edit - I just saw your T-Mobile tag in your shot. Looks like T-Mobile didn't either.

Yeah T-Mobile .. These things got to go!

Same, now I only have to worry about the locked bootloader and I'm happy. If the dev's pull this off in less than 14 days would be a pretty amazing accomplishment.
Thanks WACOmalt

I have a feeling that the sprint, tmobile and att versions all will have the annoying sound and brightness bars. I want to disable them with a passion. There has to be a way to disable them via custom ROM.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This drove me nuts! I did notice that if you didn't have the QSlide showing in the quick settings you must. Then turn it off once it is in quick settings and remove from quick settings after that. That's the only way I found to get QSlide to go away.

OMG YES!! I would love to get rid of that excessive brightness and sound bar. Its so annoying and it takes up too much precious notification real estate. I wish that was included in the options that you can disable. Hopefully someone can find a solution.

After two days I figured what the problem was. You have to uncheck it in the notification bar and THEN uncheck it where you edit it. I guess I missed that. Lol.

Can I request a lockscreen with only the time removed? I would be super grateful. I low to use a clock on my lock screen but don't want the time twice.

I'll look into that for you... See what I come up with. You can always have the Status Bar at the top removed from the lockscreen so the top bar doesn't show at all.
I think you are talking about the clock in the status bar, but I am talking about the carrier, time and date directly above the moon/sun on the lock screen.

The extended settings are just flashable zips, but the framework-res.apk do the following :
Long press on /system/framework-res.apk and write down the permission settings. (You will need that later)
Cut and paste the new downloaded file into /system/framework
It will ask if it's OK to overwrite, say yes.
The market will force close, but that is normal.
Set the permissions the same as you wrote down at the beginning and reboot.
That is all there is to it, but please let me know if you have any other questions.

It gives you options to change the top bar battery color, remove carrier(or put a custom one), and a few others. Also allows you to flip the status bar and/or put the clock in the center.
Here is a pic of the options and notice my status bar and battery color...

Voice over from incoming calls and emails

So my note recently has started to announce the names of incoming calls. I hear my ringtone as I normally would, and about 3 seconds into the ringtone, the android "gps voice" speaks the name aloud. At first it startled me, but then I actually liked the feature because I do screen my calls at times and it is helpful when my phone is out of reach. Now however, it has been doing the same thing with my emails. The bad thing is that it decides to do it randomly while I'm at work when my phone is on silent. While on silent, my phone will just "speak" and say "you have 2 new emails" while i'm at work. The email voice has only happened twice so far, but I do not want it to happen again. I did notice that it occurred when my media volume was on...not sure if it is linked to this or if it was just coincidence. Anyone else have this issue or know how to stop it? I figured this was not normal since it did not occur when I first got the phone, and it just activated randomly...

I have used eCID for a couple years. Works for calls, sms, mms, email, calendar, and google talk. It will even read your messages if you so want it to. I used it with loquendo TTS which has been by far the best TTS. But I have to give Samsung credit as Samsung TTS does very well too. But loquendo is still a touch above.

You should try out 'Display Brightness' on the market - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsInJ1YmJlcmJpZ3BlcHBlci5EaXNwbGF5QnJpZ2h0bmVzcyJd
This recreates the Galaxy S2 slider but with many more options (can be coloured or invisible, even place it wherever you want like top/bottom/side of the screen), a really great app.

Oh AWESOME!! Great find and thanks for sharing man. Took some tweaking to get the slider width right but now it's a damn good substitute.
So for everyone interested:
Set to a top-fill slider bar.
Set width to around 1/3 of the status bar and check the "overlay status bar" box.
Now check the "auto hide box"
To work well you have to make the bar wide enough to be easily used but not so wide that it activates every time you slide your notification bar down.
Thanks again for sharing

Even better than brightness rocker, put it on the top of the screen and overlay notification bar and you have pretty much the same function as SGS2

I have mine set so it's at the top like the S2 but always visible so I can see if I've left it on full brightness, thought I'd share a screen in case anyone else is interested in this...

I've tweaked mine some more. I'm using a shorter fatter bar so sliding down for notifications doesn't trigger it by mistake and offset to bring it out from the edge a bit. Still auto hide and completely away from interfering with any other touch gesture.

Yeah the only downside with this is catching it when sliding down the notification bar, I've just got myself into the habbit of sliding down from the top right (instead of the center) which seems to work fine

[REQ] Nav bar for CMX

Anyone?

Maybe I'm missing something but what's the point when you have hardware buttons? It just seems kinda foolish to waste that screen space.

There's no menu bar on CM.

The hardware buttons drain note battery. You can have the search and menu accessible on the nav bar, plus instant access to Google now and long press search. With CMX yes you can get access to some of these features via long press, but not all of them. It's a choice for people, it doesn't have to be used, but there are some of us that like it and prefer it.
i put a little bit of time into this mod today
softkeys.zip- adds the on screen nav bar
softkeys2.zip- adds the on screen nav bar and disables the physical buttons (the backlight still turns on i didn't look to hard at trying to disable them)
the search key is something i have looked into a lot and i didn't find any solid How-to's on how to enable it i know it involves the SystemUI and the navigation_bar.xml but i haven't found a JB rom with it turned on by default without a tweak to access it
Okay so spent a little more time with it today and I got all the keys up, the button lights are still on, not sure what is causing it and it looks like I borked the app switcher for the moment but here is proof of concept

Nice man! Thanks so much for your work! Backlights can be switched off in the sys files I thought?

Adding the line "echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button_backlight/max_brightness" to the post boot file kills the button lights.

I personally wouldn't use the nav bar, but still, thanks mass, TK, for working on this.
