Phone keeps trying to update - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey guys,
I was gone for a bit and came tonight in the hopes of rooting my phone finally. I was pretty disappointed when I realized that because Im on MI1 I cant really do much (I guess you could maybe flash to Me7 and then flash a rom). I had rooted my phone a while back but then with the OTA updates I had to reroot a few weeks ago. One thing I have noticed is lately my phone keeps downloading and attempting to install an update from Verizon or Samsung but then just says an error occured and nothing was done to my phone. Does anyone know what this is or how I could stop it from occuring every night? Each time it fails it asks me to set a new time to try again.
*Edit*
It fails updating the software from Mi1 to mj7

If you want to stop OTA update notifications, use Titanium Backup and freeze FWUpdate and SDM. Just remember you'll need to unfreeze them if you want to manually check for software updates.

[Q] Rooted Eris recieving new OTA update?

Hey all, I'm running a rooted 2.1 Eris. I used the Eris one click root app and I'm running zanfur's Kernel. I didn't think I was supposed to be able to get OTA updates once rooted, but this morning I started recieving the annoying "update now" message. It comes back up every 30 minutes when I press "update later," so I'd kinda like to be able to fix that... What happens if I do the OTA update? Would I just have to re-root my phone afterwards? I was reading some speculation that the update may make re-rooting difficult... Either way, I'm clueless as to what I should do right now. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!
It will keep bugging you and then it will do a force update. I say let it update then just reroot... sometimes the updates will start installing but because you are rooted it will fail and then go away

Pretty sure this is what happened to mine this morning when I tried it. I didn't even think about, just hit "Continue" then realized it didn't work...

If you have a custom recovery on the phone (which would be the case with the One-Click app), then you can just hit "accept". The phone will reboot into recovery, as if it was going to do the update, but it will fail immediately in the recovery without causing any changes to occur. After that, you will not get update "nag" screens any longer.
If you want to be ultra-conservative about it, you can boot into recovery and make a Nandroid backup before you accept the update in the regular OS. Making backups regularly is a good practice anyway. Strictly speaking, it is not necessary in this particular case (and moreover, the saved state of that backup will have the "nag" behavior still present).

Thank you!
Thank you everyone, I clicked "update now," and it wet to the boot screen, no problems. Thanks for putting my mind to ease before I did it.

Can can someone please help me out with unrooting?

I was wondering if some people can help me out.
I want to unroot my phone, however, i accepted the update earlier this week. With that said, can i still run the sbf that Yah for Juggs released in the developement section?
Furthermore, will it erase / factory restore the phone as well?
The issues im having is that the gps isn't locking and i cant attach apps to the homescreens, both of which were working fine before i rooted.
Sent from my Pho-o-o-ton!
The OTA update earlier this week unrooted the phone so unless you rerooted after the OTA update
Also a simple factory restore unroots the phone
With the issue you say you have (and after an update) I would start with a simple factory restore and just let phote sort itself out in it first bootup (ie just let it sit and do it thing for 5-10 min in it's first bootup)
Computer are stupit little beast and can be very fickle, don't fight with them, don't push then or distract them when their thinking as they first boot up, they get confused very very easy

Can't get OTA update

I had a rooted photon and after numerous OTA updates to MR7 I decided to stock reset and tried flashing the CM5 release. I kept getting the snowy screen issue, so I wiped the phone with Android Recovery and managed to get to a working install. My problem is that the phone is on 45.2.5 and every time I manually push for an update, I am told the phone is up to date.
Are there any ways of manually applying the update, or flashing back to an older release and perhaps trying again? atm I have an unrooted 2.5 version.
EDIT: btw I am running Linux.
ota issues
I'm getting that same problem. I was rooted and unlocked then I re-locked my phone back to stock to get the ota but it keeps telling me I'm update. I'm trying to update to 4.5.7 but it want push the ota to my phone.

[Q] Update Keeps Failing

My rooted SCH-i605 got an update a week or two ago, and whenever I try to update it, it restarts and says the update failed. I keep postponing it by the maximum it allows, 5 days. From reading what people have been saying here, the same update has bricked some people's phones.
Should I flash back the vanilla ROM, update, then re-root? Is it possible to root this new update? Also, if I can't root after the update, can I restore applications with saved data from Titanium Backup (or similar) without rooting?
I'd appreciate advice on what to do. Thank you.

[Q] rooted MJ7 won't install MK2 update

I was searching to see if anyone else was having issues, but couldn't find any. I finally decided to turn the update off for the Verizon update, but it keeps saying unsuccessful and I'm assuming because the phone is rooted at the moment. Is there a way for me to install the mk2 update?

Nope, it'll install even though you're rooted, but you need to restore anything you've modified before the OTA will work - or at least any files that the OTA is trying to upgrade.

my guess is maybe the wifi tether, I was attempting to get it to work and there was a file or something to overwrite through a script from one of the threads I was reading. Could that be it?

Very likely the tether - it changes the framework, doesn't it? That's very likely to be updated by the OTA.
Yeah, i have the same issues.. When i download the update ( I'm on MJ7 Rooted) it says please install, i click okay. It reboots it goes into the recovery, tries to update but shows a Error Android image, Restarts, then displays this message saying Error Phone couldn't update nothing was effected or something like that. What's the issue?! i wanna update / root because this message for the update pops up every damn day and it's so annoying! Flash the MJ7 no-wipe ROM that you'll find in the Android Development forum. That will restore all of the stock files that you should need (and also cause you to lose root.)Then, update to MK2 and re-root.
