Clockworkmod help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I decided that I wanted to try installing CM on my old galaxy s2, and began with follwing the guide on the CM wiki specific for my device. However, I got stuck at the part where it wanted me to use a ternimal command to flash a certain "zImage" through Heimdall. After searching around and trying various tips it still doesn't work, however I found out most people install cwm through Odin. So I'm just wondering if I can swap over to using Odin after starting with Heimdall without anything going horribly wrong. So far I've only installed a driver through the zadig.exe that came with Heimdall, but I'm not sure if that may ruin it all. Any help is appreciated.

[Q] sgh i727 ics 4.0.4 + mac rooting trouble

Okay, just to start things off, I have been searching for a solution to my problem for like the last 2 weeks and have not been able to make any progress. Even so, there is a chance I have missed something out there. If I have, I'm sincerely sorry for clogging up xda with another thread. Feel free to flame and or point to a different source.
Now, on the the main deal
I have a totally stock Samsung sgh i727 skyrocket running ics 4.0.4, and am on on a t-mobile mvno called platnumtel. I really don't like having all the residual at&t stuff on my phone, plus I'd like to have more control over my phone and try some custom roms. I have read many different ways to do this, but because I'm on a mac most of them don't apply to me. I've tried easy root from shabby penguin, but when I try to run the script it doesn't work. I later noticed that it doesn't specify what version of android it's for, so I'm assuming it won't work with ics. I also downloaded heimdall (I've tried versions 1.3.1 and 1.3.2) and have screwed around with that, but when I try download the PIT file to my desktop, it gives me an "ERROR claiming interface failed" message. And yes, I do have usb debugging enabled and have placed my device in download mode. I also searched for some way of flashing CWM onto my device, but only found good directions for using odin.
So, basically what I want to do is:
- Safely Root my device (doing everything the right way, nandroid backups, whatever)
- have the ability to try some different roms, once again without screwing anything up.
Sorry if I've left out any details, if you can point them out I'll do my best to add them quickly.
Thank you!!

[Q] GT-i9300 bootloop, hanging on NAND write start in Odin.

So here's the story. This morning I started out with a working 32GB GT-i9300 running a rooted variant of Samsung's android 4.2.2., and thought I'd have a go at overclocking it following this thread here. Look away now if you can't bear to read of the destruction of technology by ignorance and impatience.
The first road block I hit was needing siyah kernel if I wanted to try overclocking the graphics chip as well. Why not? I tried flashing Siyah via clockwork recovery and ended up with a status 7 error which I looked up to mean my OS was incompatible. (In hindsight I probably had the wrong file...) So I did a bit more research and found that Cyanogenmod 10.1 is also supported by Siyah. I've always thought it would be fun to try Cyanogen, so I grabbed the latest nightly and tried flashing it with mobile Odin. Mobile Odin started flashing then froze after something like 'clearing data'. I think I must have been using the wrong file here too... Anyway, I reset my phone, and it wouldn't boot, except into recovery or download mode. So in another flurry of impatient research I found a bunch of different sources that seemed to suggest re-partitioning with a .pit file was a sure fire fix. A link was provided, with no mention that pit files are specific for certain sizes. Next thing I know, I've re partitioned with a 64GB file on my 32GB phone, and recovery mode is no longer an option. I can still use download mode but Odin freezes typically on 'NAND Write Start!!'
Panic mode, activate.
Things I have tried so far to no avail:
Re-partitioning with a pit file for 32GB galaxy S3s - It finishes in Odin successfully, but no result.
Attempting to flash any ROM, specifically the original one, and the one I had before the screw up - 'NAND Write Start' freeze
Attempting to flash any kernel, specifically Siyah, Perseus and the stock kernel. - Same as above
Using multiple usb cables (4) - No result
Trying different USB ports, and different computers - Ditto
Different versions of Odin (1.3, 1.85 and 3.07) - Unsucessful
Throwing a tantrum - exhausting, but otherwise un-noteworthy
Things i haven't tried:
Jtag. - I don't know terribly much about this apart from what I found in a PDF. Would this be likely to work? Are there any trustworthy people that do this? Should I try it myself?
Returning to Samsung under hardware warranty - I don't think this would work, my flash counter is 2 - custom. Unless it's possible to triangle away in this state.
Giving up - I doubt this would help, but somehow it's looking more and more enticing... ;_;
So after wasting nearly a whole day trying to rescue it, and failing miserably. (Digging my own grave) I decided to post my specific case. As while I have found many descriptions of similar woes, nothing has worked.
Can you help? Please?
Its a damaged Nand from what you posted .
jje
If that's the case, is there anything I can do at all? Is it worth trying to Jtag it?

all of those have old recoveries that don't work that well anymore... also cm10.1 is a bit old, you may want to try CM11...
also you have to use Odin to get the proper ClockWorkMod on your phone to use cm10.1. odin is a computer program (windows only i think)
you could use heimdall too but i don't use that..

honestly my windows computer is having major issues and doesnt want to turn on, and i looked at heimdall, but it has like 10 individual steps within the installation. I was considering cm 11, and i thought with the fasciante you can just apply update from the sd, then choose the .zip file where clockwork mod is in.
Mabye thats too old.
Any tutorials or links people or you kind sir can point me in the right direction? Ive literally looked everywhere but all are from 2011 and are outdated.
in the general section droidstyle guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho... Rom/CWM recovery/Root or going back to Stock
Section 4
If you are not rooted or already have a custom ROM on your phone, you will need to use odin or heimdal.

Graphical interfaces in linux make things way more complicated than they need to be. I can get any Fascinate to rooted stock GB w/a custom recovery in Heimdall with literally 2 cut-n-paste commands in Terminal on my computer in 5 minutes. It can't get any easier.
Sure, there are several steps involved with installing ADB & Heimdall on your computer and downloading and setting up your folders with EH03, the GB boot loaders, & CWM4. But honestly, if you aren't willing to do this first so you have the ability to recover your phone if you brick it, you have no business installing custom roms. 1-click roots and apps like ROM installer just leave people unprepared WHEN things go wrong.

[Q] Bricked T959D

Hey people, another nub here with phone troubles.
History
Early on (years ago) I installed a i9000 kernel and Darkyrom, and have since moved on to Semaphore and Cyanogenmod 10.x and 11.x.
I've been updating to the latest CM11 nightlies (galaxysmtd) for a while without any issues, but several months ago I started seeing a lot of lagginess in responsiveness. I continued with nightlies for a bit until that became too annoying, and I attempted to go back to the full 10.2 galaxysmtd package.
After the flash I was just stuck on the Cyanogen loading screen and because of the cross-flash (i9000 on T959d) I have never been able to get into recovery.
Current
Anyways, since then I'm sure I've managed to make things worse for myself.
I've been all over these forums (T959 One stop shop, stock files, etc) and have attempted to implement the solutions provided myself, but there always appears to be a problem at the start of the instructions that invalidates the solution for me.
All I want to accomplish at this point is to essentially wipe the phone and install the latest/greatest ROM available (Cyanogenmod 11 was previously used, but I'm not particularly attached to anything).
ADB is installed and working
Heimdall works, but will not repartition (I think during the course of my work I've uploaded the wrong PIT or broken it somehow)
Odin will detect my phone when connect, but will not upload files to it
As I've said, I'm a nub and this is clearly beyond my ability to fix so any help would be appreciated. If someone is willing to take this on I can also let you remote in so it can be fixed with a minimal amount of fuss.
So....... since clearly no one here is willing/able to be of direct help perhaps someone can point in another direction?

Tried to install either Philz Touch/TWRP, still no luck [Solved]

Hello there,
so as of late i've been wanting to upgrade to a newer version of firmware, which sadly couldn't be done because of my old phone. So i eventually ended up here, and read about how to get unofficial versions
of newer firmware. Thing is, i'm stuck at the first part; succesfully installing a recovery mod on your phone. I tried flashing twrp tar files with odin (which i did succesfully, according to the guides i found here atleast), yet when i open into recovery mode it gives me an error and redirects me to the stock recovery mode. Same deal with philz touch, and i'm not quite sure why.
Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated!
EDIT: Managed to solve it, although i do not know what constituted the difference. Followed the first part of the guide on the wiki of Cyanogenmod, and it was smooth sailing from there on.
