[Q] Is 40MHz bandwidth supported with 2.4GHz Wifi n on GT-i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've found this old thread about 150Mbps on GS3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815929
So I confirm that I'm able to connect at 150mbps with my GT-i9300 (international version) by using a wifi n router at 5Ghz.
To be able to reach 150Mbps, I must enable 40MHz bandwidth. It is what is expected because the GS3 supports only one antenna stream (no MIMO support).
With this link, I can download files from my NAS at 5-6MB/s (Mega Bytes per second) that is satisfying me.
The only issue is that due to 5GHz, wifi connection is limited to a small area (it doesn't work well through walls).
Because there is no other wifi spot in channels 1 to 9 (only other spots far enough and both 20MHz in channel 11), I've enables the 40MHz in 2.4GHz carrier on my router. Using my (old) nettop, I've enabled 40MHz support on the only 2.4GHz carrier supported, and I cansee connection link at 150Mbps (my old nettop have one stream too). I've also checked on another fix PC that supports MIMO (2 antennas) and 2.4GHz only that I can reach 300Mbps with 40MHz bandwidth. So I confirm that both are supporting 40MHz bandwidth with 2.4GHz carrier.
So, now my question is:
- why I can not enable 40MHz support at 2.4GHz on my Galaxy S3 ?
Is there a hardware limitation on bandwidth configuration on the RF chip (not the baseband, but RF where antenna is connected) ?
Is it only a software limitation due to android support that doesn't enable "auto 20/40" bandwidth on 2.4GHz ?
is there a mysterious and unknown configuration setting somewhere to enable the 40MHz on 2.4GHz ?
I confirm that 40MHz is supported at least with 5GHz carrier (you must first enable "auto 20/40" on your router and well choose your channels).
Why it is not enable at 2.4GHz ?
Maybe is there another alternative ROM that supports that ?

Samsung Smartview with 3g?

I like streaming TV (ES7005) to my SGS2 inside my home network but I'd love to be able to do it elsewhere too, for example with 3g connection or friend's wifi.
With OS Monitor (from market) I managed to find out that at least while streaming the connection is made to ports 55000 and 55001, but even if I portforward these to my TV I can't make a connectiong with 3g.
Is there any network wizard here that could make it work or at least explain why it wouldn't work without wifi connection?

[Q] Force 802.11g instead of 802.11n

Hi all,
I need to thether my 3G connection with my satellite linux-based receiver but I have some problems with the built-in wifi module (n standard).
Probably the drivers are not well developed but I experience some random lags (for example I ping it 2ms then 650ms the 45ms etc...) also with my linksys router.
I had to switch to 802.11g only in the router's option to have the receiver working properly.
But now I have the same problem with my S3: the receiver connects @ 150Mbps (so 802.11n) during the tether with the same random lags...
Can I select a lower max speed (a different standard, 802.11g in this case) in the Galaxy S3 (also with external tethering software, the phone is rooted)?
Can I set it for the whole wifi section (I think that also the tethering will go at that speed)?

I have this very same problem with my SGS3. My older laptop can't use SGS3 tethering because it lacks 802.11.n. I would really love to know of a way to force 802.11.g tethering on my S3. I'm not capable to root my phone, so it has to be some setting or app.
Is there anyone that knows how to do this?

[Q] Wifi extender 2.4GHz to 5GHz

Hi there,
I would like to try something out.
I have a 2.4GHz modem/router and a 5GHz usb wireless card.
Is it possible to use my phone to connect to the network at 2.4GHz and resend/extend it at 5GHz so I can connect my pc with the 5GHz usb?
My phone is capable of 2.4GHz and 5GHz (it is the GT-I9505 and it is rooted, check setup of my phone in signature)

Wifi Direct band/channel selection?

Is there any app that allows to create (or modify) Wifi Direct groups, with 2.4GHz / 5GHz band selection (or channel selection? 1-11 for 2.4GHz and 36-165 for 5GHz)

Roku Wi-Fi Interference

Just a heads up if this hasn't already been posted here is that if you have a Roku TV, Roku TV Box or Roku Stick it can emit strong WiFi signals that can interfere with your Android media player box. I seen that it can emmit at least a strong -38dB signal that can interfere with your Android box if is located near and around your Roku TV.
"Roku WiFi-Direct operates on the same frequency as USD's Wi-Fi. Roku uses WiFi-Direct to connect some remotes, which utilize and broadcast on the same channel that it receives internet from. The result is that there will be interference, even on 5 GHz, causing other devices to either drop the signal intermittently or fail to connect, or lower bandwidth. Additionally, some Roku models have a feature called interference mitigation enabled by default. This technology disrupts traffic to nearby Wi-Fi access points to attempt to improve local signal. These features can affect performance of USD's wireless network for everyone."
