Omate vs future smartwatches - Ornate TrueSmart

Do you believe any of the new smartwatches coming out will have a feature set similar to the Omate?
I am thinking of buying an Omate and subscribing to T Mobile to use it as my main phone and leave my Sprint account.
Worth it or should I wait for another smartwatch like say the Galaxy Gear 2 which is coming soon?

Talking about Sprint, so you must be US/Canada. So limits your options in terms of known devices. My understanding is that my current favorite the AI Watch should work fully over there as well. Not in production yet, so you would have to wait.
There are bound to be more devices coming...

If you decide to make this your main device, get a headset, the internal mic has muffled sound (as I've been told by numerous people I have called on it)

The mic is that little hole next to the SIM slot. So if you are wearing any thing with long sleeves you have to keep that in mind.

You're absolutely right, but I don't wear long sleeves...

I was not expecting any success as a speakerphone without Bluetooth, but in the case of my one TrueSmart it works amazingly well.
If you do open your watch's back cover, be sure the microphone surround insert is correctly in place. At least one recipient reported that his had muffled sound and feedback issues, and that microphone isolation looked mis-assembled.

Headphones plugged and speakers still notify

I have the headphones plugged in to listen to music and the phone speakers still play notify sounds and rings. I would like those to only be played in the headphones only when they are connected. I am using the headphones that came with the Samsung galaxy s3.
When in a work environment this is not ideal.
thanks
I'm having the same issue! I haven't figured out what's wrong yet... It is quite puzzling.

I think it's a good feature incase we forget to unplug the headphones. I like it. But usually ill put my phone on vibrate to avoid this when I'm in public.

Works correctly with my stereo BT headset... Are those included headphones voice enabled.? It would seem that SVoice or Google Voice should come up if you open the mic like the BT headset..

Yup this is a big annoyance, every phone I've had played the notifications inside the headphones except this one. Anybody find a solution yet?
it's neither the rom u r on nor is it the kernel that is causing this. It's a problem in the google codebase. Apparently it's an enhancement as claimed by google. Beats me why.
There's no real fix so far. The ticket raised in google code has been sitting there for over 2 years with no response. I think asking here is pointless, believe me I've tried. I even had pple confidently telling me that it's normal for ALL phones
So as long as google doesn't fix this, we can only depend on the various workarounds out there.
Probably a patent stopping them from fixing it..

Or they want a couple bucks per install. That's the real issue, unlike classic ip such as ctl alt del which is a IBM patent, they charged in the penny range. Everyone wants to be a billionaire.....

Does anyone know if this issue is fixed in JellyBean ?
Also, there is a Tasker workaround that basically mutes all notifications and then plays a media file when it detects a phone call or SMS:
Tasker Redirect Ringer to Headphone
Its actually a defect from samsung. My gf has this issue and I don't. Samsung told her that her phone was defective and to return it. I had her try my headphones and it still won't work. She will most likely return it since she uses the headphones all day at work.

I will co-sign that this is a Samsung issue since I observed the same problem on the original Epic (Sprint Galaxy S) and also heard other reports of people with the same issues. None of my HTC phones have had this problem, so I'd have to point the finger at Samsung. I can't remember how we ended fixing it, but I think it may have involved reflashing.

Yea. Never had this problem on my Incredible. This is one of my many annoyances with TouchWiz... right up there with the non-centered icon for the app drawer and the lack of lockscreen audio controls (in the standard lock screen)

NFC Noise?

To be honest I'm not even sure it's a noise being produced by the NFC feature, but a post on Androidforums mentioned a noise similar to the one I'm experiencing and suggested it maybe due to the NFC feature of the S3.
Basically whenever I move my device up and down, or out of my pocket and place it on a desk or table, it makes a large "blip" like noise. It drives me absolutely mad, especially when attempting to use the device while golfing or bike riding, constantly blipping in my ear.
Can anyone else confirm this noise so I know I'm not crazy? Even better, could someone inform me how to disable this?
Thank you.

After ICS update caller can't hear my voice

Hi all, after the ICS update yesterday, when someone calls or I call out, the other person can't hear my voice. I can plug in ear buds, with built-in mic and the other person can hear my voice ok. Wondering if there's a conflict somehow with the speakerphone? Been over the sound settings several times and can't find anything that applies. Any ideas or fixes? Thanks much
Jim

If your microphone stopped working immediately after the OTA, I'd call Verizon and have someone look at it and replace it.
If your microphone worked for a little while after the OTA, chances are your microphone just decided to give out.
Either way, I'd look to get it replaced. If its stock and unrooted, there's absolutely no reason for the microphone giving out to be your fault unless it has possible water damage.
Try checking the headphone jack with a bright light for something stuck down in the headphone jack.

RBarnett, thanks for the reply. The phone was working properly (my voice out) worked fine before the OTA update. No water damage. Just too much of a coincidence for the phone microphone to stop working immediately after the OTA, to my way of thinking. Sounds like good advice to have Verizon check it out.
No mic on Thunderbolt after ICS and app installs
Exact same issue here.
I updated my stock, undamaged, 2 year old, Verizon HTC Thunderbolt to Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS) last Tuesday evening. That evening I found out my phone mic was not working. Callers could not hear me, but all else was fine. Speaker phone did work. Love the Bolt and ICS looks and feels great.
I went to the local Verizon store and the guy did some online research and found no known or reported issues. He said that it must be coincidental that the mic stopped working after the ICS update. He cleaned the mic area and the headphone jack, assuming crud may have been disabling the mic. Nothing seemed to fix the problem.
They ordered a replacement under warranty and it arrived the next day. I activated it and proceeded to reload all my apps, again assuming that the mic issue must be coincidental. After many hours tweaking the phone to my needs and setting up all apps I found that the mic did not work.
Thursday I took both to the Verizon store and another rep played with it and could not find the cause. Only options were to upgrade, or try another replacement. I had no reason to replace my previously fully functioning Bolt. They ordered a second refurb that arrived yesterday. Before downloading any apps I was only going to activate it and make sure the mic worked. I never got that far. The second refurb had a malfunctioning screen that was unacceptable to me.
So off to the store I went with three Bolts.
They agreed the 2nd one should never have been sent out with the poor screen.
This time I talked with a female rep. She actually just upgraded from a Thunderbolt and was well versed. We decided to wipe the first refurb back to factory and the mic now was working. I took it home, started downloading my apps and after a few hours and nearly done I found the phone mic to be inoperable again. The speaker mic worked fine.
Assuming an app was disabling my phone mic I wiped it back to factory and reactivated. I checked and the mic is now working again. I assume one of my apps is conflicting with the mic mute. I have been downloading a few apps at a time and the mic is still working. Only about 15% of the previously downloaded apps are now on my Bolt. I just don’t know what app, or when my mic may go mute.
Long, ongoing story, but I thought I would post to see if anyone has any ideas, or similar issues after ICS update. Thanks in advance.
Keep sending them back and complain enough and you might get a newer replacement.

By "new replacement" you mean a new Thunderbolt, or replacement by a different phone? Probably be a frickin Apple knowing my bad luck...lol
I was actually surprised they updated the Bolt considering you can't even get accessories at a Verizon store any longer. And supplies are limited online.

Hey, a big THANKS, for that detailed reply! I guess misery loves company! Yep, that is the problem. The only work around I've found is to use head phones or ear buds. But you can't just plug in buds or phones and expect them to work for phone calls. They have to have a built in mic. Mine is a Dynex Adapter. It has the mic and a button switch for switching to a call if you're listening to music or radio. The adapter is about 5" long and costs about $10 as I recall. At least that makes the phone usable again until a better solution comes along.
Like you, I thought I might have a rogue app and started removing any app with an audio or sound component. So far no luck. Please let me know if you come across a solution and I'll do the same. Thanks again for posting.

I have read elsewhere about a similar issue. In that post it mentioned that once you get the rogue mic mute the only fix is a factory wipe. I have had to wipe phones 5 times since ICS update last Tuesday. I tried uninstalling app by app but never got the mic back without a wipe. I need a phone, more than I need all the apps. I do miss some but am adding them back slowly.
Same here. They are sending me a replacement and we'll see what happens. I'm personally hoping this 2nd one has the same issue and just seeing if I can upgrade mine to another phone. >.>
Being a total dumb ass concerning programming phones, this problem appears to be software rather than hardware related. Could a developer create a small app to simply reset or clear the mic status? I'm probably oversimplifying, but it looks like an HTC or Verizon developer could fix this problem in a matter of minutes. Rendering a fine phone useless after an OS update seems kind of ridiculous, imo. Any suggestions or thoughts?
So far none of the rooted users that didnt take the ota but rather used the flash able haven't reported this issue. It is possible that its a combination of hardware and software where the new software didn't fill the gap for your hardware. It is well known that no two thunderbolts are alike and they all react differently to the software.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Good point Disconnectie. Something, whether hardware or software, rendered my perfectly working Tbolt, basically unusable after the OTA. I wonder now if the Emergency Call function is working? Don't think I'll make an emergency call to test.

Microphone issues in call

Anyone having issues in call with people hearing you. It seems every call I'm on the other person says " I can barely hear you." I'm really considering trading for an S4 now.
I only have an issue when I cover up the mic on the back of the phone. People tell me it sounds like I'm in a tunnel when it's covered.

Yes, I had issues with my original One and got a replacement through AT&T and now it is fine.
I've been reading other threads from other phones that say to turn off noise cancellation in call....I don't know if that's an option here. I hope it's not a hardware issue.
I believe it's because the tiny little mic is all the way on the right side. It shouldve been in the center.

Bluetooth crackling/static

Is anyone else having an issue when streaming music via Bluetooth? It sounds like static/crackling, kinda like the audio is being clipped at the higher end.
I just got the phone on Monday so I have time to try and exchange it if it could be a bad phone. Just not sure if it is a common issue or not.

It could also be your Bluetooth device. try yhe device with other phones and see if the static persists. make sure you test 1 to 3 songs across the devices and make sure the songs are the same.

I too came from a V10. my V10 had plenty of problems, my Beats Solo 2 wireless would crack a lot, as well as my Jaybirds x2. once I got my G6 the only cracking I got was when I stepped out of rage. anyways I'm just saying to test things out with multiple devices, multiple Bluetooth devices would be ideal as well. don't just quickly assume it's not something. doesn't matter if it's a car or not tech is tech and some of it may be defected.

It does kinda suck, but I have a feeling it has to do with Android Wear app. So I think at some point I am going to do a factory reset and only install apps that don't use Bluetooth at all and then keep installing one at a time to see if I can narrow it down.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug with the phone's bluetooth. It happens to me when connected to my Android Wear watch. If I turn off my watch, the crackling stops.
Yea, I am pretty positive it is Android Wear/Smart Watch related. I unpaired my watch from my phone and uninstalled Android Wear and the issue seems gone.
Weird.

LG & Verizon (SMH)
The Bluetooth is TERIBLE on these phones - The BLE doesn't work and too many devices paired (especially smart watches) messing up streaming something Awful. There are MANY software bugs especially using google music and many other programs/apps - the longer you use the phone to more the bugs will standout, but in LG's defense they have issued a software update, but with Verizon there's Really No Telling when will get it (if we get it)
