GTA San Andreas - Low Res - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What I'd like to do is to import Low Res models and textures (PC or PS2 eventually) to gain more performance and stability.
Considering the models and textures have been reworked and improved, it's obvious that they require more resources.
I'd rather have a stable framerate and good performance rather than amazing graphics, though I don't like the texture resolution setting in the in-game menu.
Also considering GTA:SA is no longer compatible with Xperia M as of the 1.05 update (even though I played it just fine on earlier versions), I also want to increase performance and stability because there must be a reason why they removed compatibility for a lot of devices.
Has anyone tried this before and what are your experiences? Did it improve your framerate and performance?

I assume what you could do is decompile the apk, batch resize all the textures to a smaller size. Never tried it but it should work.

Isnt that exactly what the Resolution setting does?

Anyone has an idea? I read that the SA Mobile 3D Models are built differently than the PC Versions 3D models, so importing them would not (should not) work.
Any other sollutions?

Pocket Legends

Has anyone tried to run Pocket Legends on Tattoo using Froyo?
I downloaded outdated version so i couldn't get it to run because it said it needed updating and i couldn't find any place to download newest version of Pocket Legends?
some textures are no loading and its a bit laggish
For some reason I can't play any 3D game on my Tattoo, not only cause of low fps rate but also some other graphical bugs... Actually also LOT of 2D games also have low fps rate.. Well since u upgraded to 2.3 its somewhat better (about 20%).. Is it me or?
The HTC Tattoo hardware does not support 3D. No gpu is present in the chipset...
Sent from my HTC Tattoo using XDA App
I tried it, the layout looks terrible on tattoo, a lot of textures are missing and the fps isn't great either.

GS3 and FPse, how it performs?

Hello, can maybe some one post some videos on how FPse performance with GS3?

I've seen that, nice video.
I've tested it. Originally it ran at 256 fps, so I had to turn on vsync to cap it at 60 fps.
Runs super smooth here

I've been having a tinker with FPse myself.
Running version 0.11.24.
Using Final Fantasy 9 as a test ISO, it runs amazingly well in "software" mode, if you turn off frame limiting the area's I checked were running at 250+fps.
I didn't notice any bugs either. but graphically, the game looks horrible, pixelated and blurry.
Now, there's an openGL plugin for FPse, which makes it look fantastic, much better then software mode. but it's choppy and buggy. Not unplayable mind you, (40 - 100 fps) but it can dip to 20 at some scenes.
Now the worst part is, currently the OpenGL plugin does not support the MALI400 GPU in the S3. If you try to directly run an ISO using the pluggin, it will not load on the S3, just shows a black screen.
there is a "trick" to load a game using the plugin though, but I wont bother getting into detail.
The dev is reportedly soon going to release fpse 0.11.27, which will allow the openGL plugin to run on a MALI400 GPU.
Check out the thread on fpsece.net.
also @NZtechfreak.
thats an N64 emu, not FPse.

Try actually watching the video before commenting, I show FPse also. Sorry, but I think I know what I'm talking about here.
In the video I run Tekken 3 just with the software GPU plugin and it runs fine, will try it out with my other games and see, but certainly Tekken 3 has no issue so it isn't universal that it doesn't work (its running 32-bit rendering with anti-aliasing on in the video at 60fps). Apparently the 0.11.27 version coming out any day will have a major revision to make things work better with the Mali too.
Thank you for all your replies more confident about buying S3 just reading the post about signal issues...
I tried it and it runs well in software mode.
I have managed to play with the Open GL plugin (Einhander and Grandia), the graphics are very very good and the frame rate is ok.
But as dark_day says, you have to do a very anoying trick (with Tekhen3) to play.
Also I didn't manage to play with the iControlPad and the OpenGL plugin whereas it works well in software mode.
My only problem in software mode, if someone has an answer : I didn't manage to play in 4:3. Even when I select original screen size it's still in 16:9.

Can there be a ROM for gaming?

I would really love to see a ROM specially made for gaming in our Beautiful and powerful Xperia tablet Z (Pollux/Windy).
Can any developer(s) build a custom ROM with some performance tweaks just like as in EvoMix Kernel and extra gaming features like:
Resolution Changer (To increase the performance in games)
Google Play games integration
Ramp up CPU to 1712000 MHz
Ramp up GPU to 487 MHz
In-built support for Game Controllers
Game theme and boot Animation
Default I/O schedulers best for gaming {Maybe ZEN I guess as suggested in this awesome article about I/O schedulers http://androidmodguide.blogspot.in/p/io-schedulers.html}
GFX optimization (As in Gltools)
And other optimizations For Stability and performance.
Seems like a dream now and i know there will be a lot of work behind it. But Our tablet is built for performance and it can do much better with some performance optimizations. So Anyone interested?

Let's be frank, TabZ is 2.5 years old hardware, so while it can actually handle some games pretty well, the new ones are too tough for its GPU especially.
With some kernel modifications and overclock you can squeeze some more out of it, but Antutu ~26.5 is probably a maximum for S4 Pro chipset and Adreno 320 graphics (without heavy hardware voltage mods and cryonic cooling).
By using apps like GLTools, you can fine tune performance, but usually by degrading quality (lowering render resolution), and offloading GPU this way..
So can the gaming ROM be made? Sure, it can, but the use of it on old hardware (also software, cause Sony will not update it to Android 6.0) is under a question.
Devices built on Snapdragon 800 (801 & 805) like Z2/Z3TC are more capable of high quality hires gaming, while they getting older too.
Thanks @Rootk1t We can optimize a game in different ways.. And we can make heavy games like modern Combat 5 run smoothly on our Tablet Z. If you use a resolution changer app and decrease the resolution on your screen you can get a noticeable increase in performance in the game. With this if we have EvoMix kernel features like overclocked CPU and GPU etc.. I'm sure we can get rid of lags and play most of the games smoothly. But unfortunately, the resolution changer app does not seem to work with CM based ROMs.
I'm pretty much of a noob to developer thingy, but our developers know how to optimize the tab for max performance by taking out unwanted apps and adding some tweaks to the kernel/ROM.
I just can't wait for a gaming rom to be released.
But that's a sad news about Marshmallow

It's like gaming on PC. If don't have powerfull graphicscard or you have a laptop with built in one, you need to decrease resolution, let's say from 1920x1080 to 1280x720, after this framerate will increase, maybe to playable state, but quality will drop.
So the more you decreasing resolution the more drop quality of picture. On PC, we can add some antialising, on TabZ we're unable to do that, cause it's just won't handle that. On some games it is not very noticeable, on others it is very noticeable.
EvoMix kernel definitely allows some overclocking, but if you have CM12.1 you can test yourself, in Antutu or Quadrant, the gain from overclocking is not high, but at the same way greatly affects battery life.
Definitely depends on game, but is stressing hardware and battery.

Thanks @Rootk1t i understand that
Is there any way can we figure out why resolution changer (NoMone Resolution changer) does not work with CyanogenMod?

It seems that CM is using another way to change resolution. Don't know is it a bug or a feature, but still there are mentions of it.
Try using other apps like Resolution Changer Pro.

Ummm... resolution changer doesn't work either on my CrDroid. It changes the dpi though but not resolution.

Poor gaming performance

I have noticed a lot of frame skips in even simple games like radical rappelling.
Even my moto x 1st generation used to run games smoothly.
I suspect it's more of a software issue.
Anyone who has rooted found a fix?
Try force GPU rendering in developers tool
This is what worries me the most. Does it have a 60hz panel? Oneplus one had 63hz.

PPSSPP Emulator

Any of you tried the PPSSPP emulator on the G5 yet? I am getting some performance issues and I was wondering if this is an optimization issue with the Snapdragon 820. If not, do any of you care to share your settings for the emulator on your G5?

There are a few videos on YT that give to best settings for S7 on certain games which should also apply to G5 since they share the same processor (well in US atleast)
Mess with the frame skip option in the emulator.

Frameskip appears to fix audio jitter but actually worsens overall performance and responsiveness for me, I also have trouble getting Resistance: Retribution to be playable at all, is that particular to the game or is there something still not patched for the SD820?
i just tried resistance aswell as wipeout pulse.
it seems it does not matter that much if you change anything to the graphical settings.. in fact.. i could use fxaa, full resolution aswell as 16xAA without performance decrease so the problem does not seem to lie inside the rendering.
in wipeout pulse i noticed something..
i finished a race. in slow motion almost...
the second the score board becomes visible the game starts to run at full speed (max res, 16xAA, fxaa, ...) without any lag.
behind the scoreboard you can watch the game continue being played by AI.
as soon as you are in control of a ship, the game will start decelerating again.
fun fact: frame skip will work well in wipeout. multi threading will not have any effect.
resistance however seems unplayable to me. multi threading will make it unplayable.
