[Q] Root for Sprint LG G3 4.4.2? - Sprint LG G3

I recently updated my phone before rooting it. Now StumpRoot or PurpleDrake won't work . The SW Version is LS990ZV6. If anyone knows of any working roots that have very little to no risk of soft/hard brick, that would be awesome.

There's not an easy root for ZV6. The good news is you can flash tool back to ZV4 since there's no anti roll back. After flash, stump root then bump TWRP and flash the rooted ZV6 or another LS990 friendly ROM.

I just did that stupid update too and lost root access! I used stump to root it so thought I'd download it again and reroot from there but it says I'm already rooted. However, when I check with root checker or super su it says I'm not. If you find anything please let me know.

Seriously? It's the basic rule of the "Stump" root method. It only works once and only on ZV4. If you lose root, you cannot re-root ZV4 or otherwise without using flash to stock ZV4. Then flash a rooted ZV6.

Just like Mike said, you must go back to zv4 using flashtool. No easy way to root zv6 right now. There is one OTA apk you can rename with root explorer on zv4 to stop over the air updates when you go back to zv4.

I've used flashroot before because I soft-bricked my phone. It was a pain to use. Do you think it might be a long while before a z6 easy root? Also, if I do revert it back to z4, do I have to do a complete wipe?

Anytime you use flashtool, to flash a factory .tot, it wipes every partition in the phone. You don't have a choice to wipe or not.

It could take a while. I'm not sure anyone is working on root for the Sprint variant. We probably won't get. Zv6 root until they find an exploit for another variant that happens to work on Sprint.

What is the OTA apk you are talking about so I can rename it, or can I freeze it?

Geez people, pay attention. Read, Read, Read before doing. There must be dozens of posts in the LS990 forums that say ZV6 can't be rooted, don't take the OTA if you're rooted, etc. But you do first, then read.
And the answers to all of these questions about how to fix it have been posted dozens of times, too. Please use the search function, or just read the forums. The answers are all here.

The OTA removes root and to my knowledge, there is no working root method for the OTA at the moment.
You'll need to use VooDoo Root Keeper to retain root for the OTA. It's not guaranteed although it has worked for myself and others. You'll lose any custom recovery and any power to install a custom recovery. You will end up with root on the latest OTA but that's it. That's your only choice right now. Or, of course, staying where you're at.

[Q] Upgrade From MDK - Don't Care About bootloader

I've been trying hard to find the answer and I just can't - I searched these threads for a while.
I currently have Galaxy S4 with MDK which is rooted and has the unlocked bootloader.
I have SDM and SEAndroid frozen on Titanium Backup.
I want to un-freeze those and upgrade to the newest version but still keep my root and all of my root apps. I don't care about the unlocked bootloader - all the root apps I use don't have anything to do with using the bootloader (well I have twrp installed but don't use it).
Can I use OTA Rootkeeper, unfreeze SDM and SEAndroid and take the OTA update? Will I still have root access (again remember, I don't need to have unlocked bootloader)?
I ask because I'm very happy with everything on my phone the way it is - I like where my apps are, I like everything. I don't want to bother flashing roms - I just have no interest. I want to do the update and have everything the way it was and all my folders in their place (less the unlocked bootloader) and still have root for my programs like Titanium Backup and Greenify. super su - etc.
Please - any help would be appreciated.
Afaik, taking the update will ineed cost you your current root. However, I am on stock 4.3 and root using vroot and then used a script to uninstall the foreighn superuser app and add supersu. I have experienced no ill effects as of yet, though some would say that they aren't comfortable using this root method. There is no evidence to support it being entirely safe nor malicious in intent. It does provide root and you can keep all your apps data. Though...if you take the update, I would strongly suggest a factory reset to decrease potential problems...just my 2 cents buddy

The bootloader is technically only bypassed through a Loki exploit, not unlocked.
For all intents & purposes that doesn't change anything to most users so I don't know what Richii was trying to get at.

I have an MDK so I don't need it. But please do someone a favor, don't kill that MDK S4. Either just flash a rooted 4.3 that was designed for your MDK device, or sell it to someone so they have the opportunity to play with it. There are a ton of people on this forum stuck on the newer versions that would kill to get what you have.

I won't kill it if I knew how to upgrade stock rom without losing my apps and data - lol. That's really my problem. Looks like there's a stock rom here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517611 - but there are so many files there. I have no idea what to do or which one to download? I don't know what Loki'd Kernel is or Aroma installer, deodexed, etc etc (and I don't have the time) - I just want to upgrade and keep my apps and data the way they are - lol. If after I upgrade it's no good - I'll go back to my backup.
I have MDK with TWRP installed.
Thanks!

[FYI] Stump Root/Bump on LS990ZV6

With ZV6 appearing to come out tomorrow, the following is already known and worth noting:
Stump Root - The current posted version does not work. This may be addressed at some time down the road but it will probably be as they have time. If you want ZV6 with root, you'll want to wait for a version that allows you to update up from ZV4 while keeping it.
Bump - Indications are that it still works.
Hopefully getting this out there now will help people make informed decisions. Thank you.
What about those who used stump root to gain root when it came out, just root, no custom recovery. I think it was like a month, month & a 1/2 & then bump came out? I mean does using bump supercede stump, so now I am bumped, & not stumped & bumped lol. This making any sense?

Huh?
These are two completely different things.
Stump is a root method.
Bumped is a broader bootloader bypass.
You need root to bump, and stump is the only way to root the LS990.

You'll have to use LG flash tool and go back to ZV4, then root all over again. There's a sticky at the top of the forum on how to do this.

Now if I can just manage to find an updated version of TWRP for this phone that I can flash via AutoRec.

The issue though with unrooting is it just removes root, but does not put the G3 back into stock condition. If you look under settings->About Phone->Software info, you'll see it shows it as "Modified" which means no OTAs will be accepted more than likely. The only way to go back to pure stock is to flash via KDZ or TOT images, which wipes your phone. That's the only way to get back to pure stock where it won't show modified as the status.
To learn more about the G3, I would suggest going to the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
From reading through that post, I learned everything I needed to about the LG G3 when I was considering switching to it and knew that I would be able to flash ROMs, root, etc. It is what sold me on getting the phone.

it'll probably be your only method. the Chinese seem to be taking over these root and jailbreak exploits. over on iOS, TaiG is the only group who has a jailbreak for the newest versions of that. and kingroot seems to be getting a similar status for people who want one-click root exploits.
keep in mind, root is a dangerous thing and it seriously harms the security of your device. you may not trust the Chinese, but they've probably been doing this all along.
good news though, you can replace the kinguser stuff with SuperSU somehow. don't ask me, I'm still running KitKat

Apparently you can flash Stang5litre ROM on OTA 5.01 using Flashfire. I haven't tried it myself but if you go to the last couple of pages on the Stang5litre topic you will see post from those who were successful in flashing it on OC1.
