[Q] Verizon Z2 tablet Model SGP561 firmware 23.0.1.E.0.208. - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Verizon Z2 tablet Model SGP561 firmware 23.0.1.E.0.208 Android 4.4.4.
I am trying to root, install custom recovery, and install ROM's. From what I'm reading this is not possible. In fact, there is no easy solution to obtain root. From what I read, I will have to downgrade the Firmware to Android 4.4.2 and then upgrade using a patch to 4.4.4.
The thing is all of the information is pretty old(last year). Has there been any progress made, or am I stuck? I would love to Root this and run any ROM, even if it is a stock ROM.
Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Verizon Z2 LTE SGP561 with the latest update of 4.4.4 and i managed successfully to Root it with the latest KingRoot apk.
It was very easy - just download the KingRoot apk to your device , run it from the device and it will do the work.
After it will complete you will have KingRoot user which is the superuser app for permission, no need to install SuperUser of SuperSU.
I checked with root-checker to verify and indeed it was rooted.
even though the bootloader is locked you are rooted.
I managed to remove all Verizon bloatware apps.
You can find the latest KingRoot apk in the following link:

[Q] Xperia Z2 4.4.4: Root WITHOUT Unlocked Bootloader.

Is there a way to root my Xperia Z2 (4.4.4) without unlock its bootloader?
Or else better, is there a way to back-up the bootloader before the unlock?
I ask because I want to root it without set a custom Rom.
Thanks in advance.
There is. You've got to downgrade to for example 4.4.2, root your phone, create a pre-rooted version of 4.4.4 and then flash that. There is a much more detailed guide around here, so I recommend that you check that out
To back up your ta partition you will need root first.
In stead of creating a rooted rom you can also find some prerooted here in the development forum.
-Use flashtool to downgrade to 4.4.2
-Root and install recovery with one of the available root methods (towelroot for example)
-Use recovery to flash a rooted 4.4.4 zip, recovery (again) and SU (again)
-Reboot
-Test network connection, if 4g is not working, use flashtool to flash a local 4.4.4 baseband
That's all.
I heard that for rooting it's required to have unlocked bootloader. Is that true?
(I have seen the root guide in forum, but I don't think that it mentions the bootloader)
My problem is that I want to upgrade the phone without errors (when sony has updates). I say that because a friend of mine has a rooted Nexus 5 with unlocked bootloader and he can't install the last update. It gives him a bootloop and returns to the previous. This is something I don't want.
Thanks in advance.
Unlucking is not needed.
Official updates should work if you're on a 100% stock rom, but updates are generally available as flashable rooted zip, here in the forums, long before you get an official update available from Sony.
So that should be no problem.
Biggest issue here that people dont search howto root on locked bl, that is possible, search and read then you will have it, example like the installations steps of a modded stock rom

[Q] Installing a custom rom

Hi,
I just want to install a custom rom for my z2 but i'm having a little bit of trouble figuring out how to install it.
I was interested in installing the resurrection remix rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/rom-resurrection-remix-t3028260
I'm currently on the official 5.0.2 version of android. I upgraded from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 through Xperiafirm.
As far as I understand you need to have both root, an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery to install a custom rom. NOTE: I have met none of these requirements.
My problem is I cant find a way to root my z2 on 5.0.2 or unlock the bootloader for that matter.
From what I gather most people upgraded from 4.4.2/4.4.4 using a rooted z2 to a 5.0.2 pre-rooted rom to keep there root permissions.
Does this mean I'll have to downgrade back to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 and then do one of the easy root processes then flash the custom rom?
Or is there an easy way to root and unlock my bootloader on my z2 on 5.0.2 so I can flash the custom rom?
Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Since you haven't rooted Lollipop theres no easy root method.
1. Use flashtool and flash any 4.4.2 (17.1.2.A.0.314) from here
2. Then root and install recovery in one step using this guide :
+Make sure you have USB debugging turned ON and plug the phone to your computer.
+Download Z2-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-BETA.installer.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com/?+Download=qh1p4ekeofo9krfbu6maic2np5&randomizer=_mc6cojzeq
+Unpack at C: or somewhere you will remember!
+Navigate to the resulting directory and look for install.bat, double click it to run;
+Select "Installation on Unrooted rom....." option
+Your phone WILL reboot when installation has completed and it will go into the default recovery for the first boot.
+Reboot to system from recovery to allow the installer to clean up after installation (it is safe to skip this step).
3. Once you have recovery installed you will hve to unlock the bootloader. Since unlocking the boot loader will remove your DRM keys you have to back them up first. Use this guide to backup DRM keys and then unlock the bootloader using this (read the whole forum carefully).
4. Since you have unloacked the boot loader you an proceed to flash and rom according to the instructions through the recovery.

Problem with Z2 to change rom.

Hi guys i have the xperia Z2 D6543 with a stock 5.1.1 23.4.A.1.232 with locked bootloader and without root .
I want to root and change my rom for one of this two that i found on the xda forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/rom-existenz-y-1-0-0-preparing-thread-t3113649
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/miui-7-sony-z2-relesed-t3188688
But i don't know what i really need to do, i was looking on the internet and i found many posts saiyng that i need to downgrade my rom to 5.0.2 and root than i should upgrade it using flashtool.
If that is a easiest way to root and change my rom that you guys can show me i would be pleasuread.
Thank you!
Download the prerooted firmware you want to use. Then downgrade to 4.4.2, build number 314. Then install the XZDR. That will give you a fully functional recovery. Get into TWRP (volume -) and install the prerooted firmware and reboot. The phone will reboot with full root and recovery.
There is another way but still need a downgrade to 5.0.2, use a rooting tool to install the recovery; if you downgrade to 4.4.2 is just one step.

what is the best way to root my galaxy s4 i337 running 5.0.1

I was hoping to install a custom rom as well but the way I rooted it last time it soft bricked, I used kingroot
Did you use the desktop or via the app on the phone? The app on the phone plus using SuperSU Me Pro should work. Otherwise, you will have to downgrade back to 4.4.2 NB1 update and root that then update via process mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814
Reference 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/root-att-s4-5-0-1-t3165816
Note - there are multiple security updates for 5.0.1 so you should read through that thread.

Newbie help with updating while keeping root

First, I had a rooted G3. Never updated it. Now, I have an H830 (T-Moble) variant. I've been rooted since I bought the phone and have never updated because I don't know how to do it without losing root. I'm still on software version H83010d (Android 6.0.1).
From what I've gathered, I just download the .zip in here and install via TWRP and then flash superSU afterwards?
I'm not completely sure what the talk of modifying boot.img or removing recovery-from-boot.p...
My reason for updating is because I want to try the Fulmics ROM or any optimized ROM for that matter. I had one on my G3 and it ran so much better.
But then as a follow up question, is the update process the same from a ROM? Do you just flash an update over the Rom and then re-flash the ROM?
Any links or answers are appreciated so I can finally figure out how to update while retaining root on my devices.
