Oneplus X and fast dormancy battery drain - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I have BBB (Better Battery Stats) installed and saw that one of the alarms is causing a huge battery drain. Its caused by fast dormancy which should actually save energy. In BBB it is called com.qualcomm.fastdormancy. In my case the phone can not enter deep sleep when fast dormancy is active.
I found an article describing the problem with fast dormancy ([FIX][ROOT] Disable Fast dormancy on sony smarthphones) but unfortunately I was not able to disable it. The guide is just for Sony devices and I could not find the folder ./etc/fast-dormancy.
Anybody with the same problem? Does somebody know a different method to disabled it (except for editing the build.prop file because it could cause a bootloop)?
Thanks!

I solved that by rooting and then instaling Service Disable from playstore. Then disabled fastdormancy Service.

Thanks! It looks like that worked out. Much easier than I thought

Yes this might solve the problem, but what fastdormancy do? And what are the consequences of disabling it?

Not sure what it does, but when I disabled it the phone felt laggy, now I re-enabled it and it is snappy again.

Sometimes, Play services cause the battery draining issue and sometimes Installing some faulty app and overclocking the device may reduce the battery life of your device.
There are common steps you can follow like using black wallpaper to take advantage of the AMOLED panel to save battery.Uninstalling unnecessary apps can boost your battery life
I just read some tips which are common but useful->>http://fixdroidbattery.net/fix-fast-battery-drain-problem-on-oneplus-x/

Hi,
I ran into the same Problem. Phone most time running @300mHz instead going to DeepSleep.
(Network Providor for me is currently SIM.DE - Sub Providor of O2 Germany)
This morning I found an article and disabled "Fast Dormancy" with the Build Prop Editor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/general/tut-disable-fast-dormancy-battery-life-t2348597
Seems to work fine for me so far. Phone is going to deep sleep again now.
I changed this 2 hours ago, so I can't say anything about longtime use or potential other problems.
Anyway, I would like to share these links because there are some useful information probably interesting for some people.

Yes. For me situtation is much better now. There are still some dormancy wakeups but I think this is normal behavior and initiated through some apps.
If I doesn't use the phone much over the day, I get about 1 to 3 hours longer battery time.
I don't recognize any other problems or limitations, so for me the fix is perfect.

Cell data connection stalling - anyone else experiencing issues?

Hi!
Is anyone else experiencing problems with the mobile data connection on this phone? It frequently stops working. Being in an area with excellent HSPA+ coverage, this can't be a signal issue.
The phone will suddenly stop loading anything, while displaying "3G" and an active upload indicator in the notification area. No internet usage is possible in these situations.
The only remedy: Cycling "data network mode" off/on. The phone will then immediately pick up HSPA+ again, working as intended.
My previous phone (Nexus One), which I used pretty much identically and at the same places as my Galaxy S2, did not experience these stalling issues. Is this a general (firmware) problem, or should I possibly look into getting a replacement unit?
I also have this problem. My SGS2 is on O2 (UK), got the phone from P4U.
Exactly the same problem, connected through H+ with good signal, suddenly the phone will switch to 3G and I will lose my connection, this can last for minutes unless I toggle data on/off. I am on KE7, but had this problem with KE2 as well.
It sounds similar to a problem mentioned in other threads, but this is the exact problem that I am facing.
I am also considering replacing the phone (if it is a phone issue, and not a firmware issue)
Happens to me also. Very annoying

Same problem here, but i also have problem with communicating via phone. Every time it starts in home, usually morning. I cant recieve any phonecalls or sms, also i cannot call or send sms. Need to reboot, signal is -113dB and i cannot choose plane -mode, it doesnt go there. Also i cannot select operator manually. Reboot is needed every time. This scenario has been over 3-4 mornings and i have owned SGS2 about 1,5 weeks now.
I have disabled fast dormancy, and never again experienced the issue.

Yes, I think he is referring to this procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086599
It's good to know I'm not the only one experiencing intermittent connection issues - as this appears to be a firmware problem, I will wait for Samsungs next few releases to solve the problem. If the bug won't go away I might get a replacement unit.
In any case, please report back - if someone got his phone replaced due to this issue, did it fix it? Any other possible solutions?
I've spoken about this issue, the 3g itself doesn't want to work.
I've tried uskr's fix and it seemed to have worked. Also root needed.
The fix involves editing /system/build.prop
adding to the bottom.
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=28
ro.ril.hsupa.category=9
ro.ril.hsxpa=3
Happens to me, can't wait till it's fixed.
Same problem with my phone
Just to let u know guys i'm facing the same issue with this phone. My data connection disappears completely bringing up a circle sign. I also lose the ability to make or receive the call. I sometimes get calls going to voicemail with full reception, when this happens I can't browse either. I am debating whether to replace the handset as I have about 4 days left to get a replacement. I bought the handset from carphone warehouse. It is a sim-free unbounded handset running the latest KE7 firmware. Any help would be appreciated as i am absolutely in love with this handset. By the way could u tell me if anyone is experiencing jagged lines while scrolling in the browser.
That's something new.
Try factory reset.

Someone mentioned loading up the phone hidden menu *#*#9900#*#* and clicking on Disable Fast Dormancy there, but not sure if that actually works or not.
in another thread i have solved this problem on my device by disabling fast dormancy. not only it solved 2g/3g issue..it also solved lost connection and battery drain.

hello iznee,
so how did you disable fastdormancy ?
i tried the hidden menu *#*#9900#*#* but it didn't work.
or did you do uskr method posted about how to disable fast dormancy ?
what about the method of editing the system.prob ?
which one of them?
please clarify
and did that solved your problem about switching from 2g to 3g ?
regards
It's not really a 2g/3g problem, more 3g/HSDPA and up problem.
And there "could" be two fixes, one I mentioned above (editing build.prop) lets call it data fix.
And the other requires deleting or editing the actual fast dormancy file as explained here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086599
Both are actually uskr's fixes. I did the data fix, which worked, but to make sure, I also deleted dormancy file.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II Freezes on Standby [SOLVED]

I would like some help from users having same issues. I bought my SGS II About 3 weeks ago... It was all working fine... stock KG7 not rooted. A few days ago it started doing some weird stuff... like random reboots during standby and freezing unable to turn on unless you take out the battery... tried to restore factory setting i installed the new LightningRom 6.1 and the issue is still there... is there a logging app that can save log before a crash? so i can see what is happening? Or is someone having the same issue as i am. Thank you very much for your time and help Cheers
PS. tried to format usb storage and still have same problem... so really don't know what is the problem...
I have finally found a solution... installed XXKH3 FW stock, not rooted yet, and installed an application from the android market called Load Monitor
Code:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.landak.loadmon
and enabled only Add Notifications, only notify high load, autostart and only screen on... seems to do the job, no battery drainage and most of all NO SOD (Sleep Of Death) or restarts anymore
Hope it helps someone
Cheers
Bump
Bump... Added VillianRom newest version still have the freeze on standby problem.. Apparently when no apps are running it just crashes and i can't turn it on only by going to CWM or odin... and reseting... Any help would be really appreciated
Do you have a software installed called SetCPU?
No... only facebook, google+, Game Dev Story and Dragon Fly...
Faulty Hardware
Mine did the same; replacement phone is perfect.
Sadly it's not an option for me... i bought it used without warranty papers... it was cheaper... i may have stumbled on a solution... cleared Dalwin Cache and it seems to work good now... we will see in a few days how the situation progresses... i will keep you posted
Installed stock XWKF3 AND IT SEEMS to have fixed the prob. Left it overnight unplugged with wifi off and i had a 1% drain of battery for over 8 hours :-D very sattisfied. Installed standard apps now so.i`ll see how it goes. Keep you posted.

Had to turn on Wake Lock. That means my phone doesn't go to deep sleep anytime. Tried a bunch of roms and all the same result. Tried setcpu configs of all kinds and nothing still. Still get freeze up and insane battery drain durring deep sleep. What helps is flashing syah kernel an putting min cpu freq to 100 that way not that much battery drain.

i also have the same problem on my gt-9100T and still it is still happening. first time it happened when i uninstalled social hubs. at that time i was running lite'ning rom v6.1 and only used the phone for 1 month. then the freeze/ sleep of death occur.
i have tried flashing to stock rom/modem/kernel from intratech thread to no avail.
some people can fix the prob by cleaning the battery contact point. some by cleaning the mini usb port. still no luck for me.
right now running on criskelo latest build (KL1 2.3.6)with T-KL1 modem, siyah .9+ and the problem still persist.
so, installed load monitor and u/v and set the min freq to 100Mhz to preserve battery but still can only last 12hours even unused.load monitor seems to use a lot of juice. very frustrating. i need to tick the wakelock option otherwise SOD right after the screen is off.
I am still hoping someone/anyone who might have the solution the share with us all.
is it a good idea to format /system + /emmc + everything? i have done full wipe, still no good.

[Q] Galaxy SIII battery drain on standby

I have the international version and the battery drain in standby is a big problem. I lose about 1% every 5-10 minutes. I'm connected to a Wi-Fi network. I've been using GSam Battery Monitor to locate the problem. I saw Facebook woke up my phone for about 500 times and I deleted it. However, I'm still experiencing this issue. In 5 hours Google services woke up my phone 47 times (in included packages it says: Google Contacts Sync; Network Location) and Maps woke it up for about 20 times.
I'm rooted and I'm running stock (LH1). No custom kernels or modems. What's the problem?
EDIT: Also, the drain is happening only when I'm connected to a Wi-Fi network (I noticed it's much slower while I'm on mobile data)

I've turned it off and as far as I've seen it didn't fix the issue. However, I will leave my phone for a couple of hours tomorrow to see again. There are apps for which I have to have it turned on (Foursquare, Maps etc.) so that's a bummer.
Even I am having the same problem of battery drain. Will it get fixed if the change the battery considering I have two 2 Galaxy S3 with the same problem of battery drain.?
Also I want to root my phones, but is there a way to root the phone without the warranty being void?
I've been experiencing some minor battery drain issues and what I found is that if I log out of all the apps I'm logged in to, my battery drain is significantly better. Not a perfect solution but I'm slowly figuring out which one is causing issues.

NetworkLocationLocator Wakelock

Hello all,
I am more than happy with my SIII but I'm finding a wakelock rather disturbing. It happens as soon as i turn on the "Use wireless networks" under the Location services settings.
If it's turned off, the wakelock disappears. But you know, it's hard to live with it turned off, as it greatly helps the GPS set a location way faster than it would do on its own... So using location based apps while it's off is a pain in the ass.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Nothing can be done about it really. Applications poll location data constantly when this option is ticked. It even tells you data is collected in the background regardless of what you are doing. To be honest many can cope with the 5-10 second wait for a GPS fix. Either deal with the drain or disable it.
5-10 seconds?? Most of the time I get message saying current location is temporarily unavailable, especially when I'm indoors.
I can't believe I have to deal with this problem. Am I the only one with this problem?? I was expecting a better answer.
just deactivate it. if you use a gps-app it will tell you to activate GPS anyways and while doing that you can then activate the network location as well.
with lbe privacy guard you can Block it if you are rooted

So basically there's no proper fix for this. All I can do is work around the issue? Coming from an iphone I feel this is a bit frustrating.
Thing is that the option I have to disable does not use GPS. It uses mobile signal and WiFi radios, so turning off GPS is useless.
Can anybody else help?

coming from iPhone then you should know that the 4S had a similar problem when it came out, and the workaround was about the same...how you felt back then??
edit
how do you check if you have partial wakelock on an iphone btw??
Disable location in general and use Tasker or make a profile on AOSP rom to turn on location service when you're going out. After all you don't need location indoors right?

Well, in theory, your solution sounds awesome. But as i stated earlier, there's a small problem: battery drain is not caused by the GPS itself, but by the other "tricks" the phone has in order to find a location (wifi and radio).
I don't know about that problem with the 4S, but as you said, it occurred when it came out. The SIII has been out for 6 months now, and there's been several updates, yet the issue is still there.
BTW, i check the partial wakelocks with Better Battery Stats (you can find it for free here on the forums)
Just a general question... Does anyone else have this issue? If any of you guys do, then i'll learn to live with it, but being the only one would really make me feel silly.
Well, I just don't use that option, AFAIK the new cm10 build changed the GPS so that it no longer favor the North America but search for the nearest satellite instead. I notice this change already make my gps quick enough so I don't bother..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I have the same problem. The only solution I found was to disable networks location. Is there any app to identify clearly what is the app that it's requesting location from Google services? It is not maps because with 3g watchdog installed it reports separated (maps and Google services) the leak is on Google services.
Ps: I have found that this problem only exists when connected to a WiFi network. On 3g the requests are less intensive.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Well I've just been doing some investigating with Better Battery Stats to find out why my battery was so bad with JB compared to ICS, then googled the NetworkLocationLocator as that seems to be the problem which brought me here (I'm a member anyway).
I must say it's pretty disappointing that this problem is occurring because surely the same option was being used in ICS and it never drained my battery back then. The only thing I can think of is Google Now has something to do with this. I have Google Now disabled anyway as (although it's a brilliant feature) it doesn't really benefit me as I don't travel around much, but I get the feeling that is the root of this problem because that's the biggest change in coming from ICS to JB (other than cosmetics and UI) right?
This is not even a problem.
People tick all kind of options or fail to go to see their apps properly starting from Facebook, Google+ , Google now, weather apps... And then complain how come they get excessive polling.
Problem lies in those same people wanting those services to record their location , but don't want any battery drain... At least case with all those around me that asked.
Trust me without WiFi and network triangulation the same services when allowed waste way more power using real GPS.

Thanks for the sweeping generalisation but I had the exact same option ticked in ICS and it was never a problem. Fact is in JB it causes a problem for some reason. It may be Google Now, who knows, but one things for sure, I should be able to have that option ticked and not have it keep my phone awake all night.

Maybe I misunderstood. Sorry.
I use Google now and maps for network location as well as fancy widget polling every 2 hours. All other apps I individually where permitted set to off.
This setup does not keep my phone all night. I see where it wakes the phone in intervals and does its thing and goes back to sleep. Combined with my exchange email polling every hour overnight, I don't see any excessive battery usage compared to what I had with ICS.

Turn of location history, leave the rest on. Wakelock is still there but less.

[Q] gpsd drain even while GPS off?

Hi!
I have been having an issue with my S III lately. For some time I have been trying to understand and configure my gps settings so that I could have gps always activated, without it draining the battery too heavily. I mainly tried manipulating my apps' location settings.
With no consistent results, I ultimately decided to try and turn gps off altogether in the pull down bar. Now, here's the issue; even with gps off, both the stock battery tool and GSam Battery Monitor report a 25% battery drain by "gpsd".
What am I doing wrong, and what can be done about it?
Thanks!
Stock S III, 4.1.2, unrooted.
Didn't wipe data when you upgraded?
Wipe the data of the service responsible.

Thanks! If you are referring to the Android update, I simply installed it without wiping anything.
What exactly would wiping data entail?
Might be Google now working overtime

I am pretty sure I disabled everything connected with Google and location...
Sorry for posting in the wrong place, will do next time!
it seems there is a bug in gpsd. sometime it hangs at 100% cpu (25% -> 1 of 4 cores) you can check this in shell with "top" cmd
if it hangs only a reboot help.
you will notice a bit lag when you switch your phone on and it gets a bit warm when this happens
for me it happens once every 1-4 days and i have allready disabled all google location settings and samsung security settings
any idea ? i dont find anything else on google.
btw. it looks like this started happen with XELLA but cant say it for sure
/inteks
That sounds exactly like the issue I have been having, especially it happening only one in every few days.
I can confirm that it seems to have had a definitive starting point, but not sure what changes I made at that point. What do you mean by XELLA? And are any other ways of telling when this happens?
