Searched google with lots of different keywords and can't find anything that will successfully root this phone. It's running 4.0.4 IMM76I ics with software version 1.006SP, hardware 010B. The kernel version, if it helps, is:

I've tried superoneclick, multiroot (title is root many.... on xda mainly for sony but some kyocera), and xfactor exploit. I know most of them aren't for this specific phone. In the root many and xfactor, it does manage to call up the restore screen but the phone closes the restore a few seconds after opening it and the exploit fails every time. I've been checking every day for new news for this phone but haven't found anything yet. I assume it is because it isn't a popular phone as to why there is not a guide. I assume that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back doors for the other kyocera phones on this model. Any suggestions or clarifications are welcome.

only thing a person needs now is Framaroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
i used the latest one 1.8.1 w/o problems.
make sure to click "Gandalf"
after SuperSU app is installed, go into the settings of SuperSU, and choose "Grant" for default access.

Rooting the Kyocera Torque
So I finally got around to replacing my old EVO with something a little more durable, but the sprint bloatware is killing me. Would someone with the proper skill sets please figure out how to root the Torque? I know at the very least I would be extremely grateful.

My work just switched over to sprint and got us all this phone. So that's about 40 of us that got this one, and its horrible that we have no root! We would be extremely grateful if we could get some root going on!

I to have tried other rooting methods (poot, z4root) because they work on other kyocera phones with no luck. But I don't believe that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back door. Where there is a will there is a way. I'm w willing to try any other methods that anyone would be willing to share . The other commits say this is not a popular device I disagree with that it will sell in good numbers. We just need to find someone willing to root it and build us some roms. Thats why my hat is off to all the people who put forth an effort on the HTC EVO, HTC Hero, Samsung Epic, S2 and S3. If you or anyone have any ideas who we need to talk to, a root method, or anything let me know I will try anything to get rid of bloat and root this device. If I knew how to write a script to do it myself it would be done but I'm no where near the talent level of the ones who do. I'm just a flasher

I've tried to I'm blue in the face!!! I tried to reach out to others who have helped me in rooting and in roms with no luck whatsoever because of devices like the HTC ONE and the new S4 around the corner they must have their hands full. I've also tried the two methods that you did as well as SRS One Click. I just wish I know how to do this and I would do it myself. Please someone out there HELP US!!!!!!:cyclops: Teach me!!
My buddy had gotten this phone and I wanted to help him get rid of the bloat ware. I have tried everything but the one click root program. I wanted to try like I first did on the original evo 4g. Someone, I'm assuming a dev had put in how to basically on adb put the phone into a suspend type mode and were able to root the phone then. I looked all over for the code, but couldn't find it. I'll willing to try anything too. I'm not a dev, but I'm not a noob. I do know a little with the android coding, so anything I can do to help...

Ok! try motochop it works the only problem is I can't get superuser to work right. You have to go into the settings and set default access as grant. From what I know the 1st rooted torque ever.

I actually just saw this phone in the store the other day and am considering purchasing it.
Don't actually need Direct Connect, tho.... so I'm wondering how easy it would be to use or even make a custom rom with 4.2, and perhaps the EcoBoost and Maximizer (sp?) battery saving apps that come stock with the Sprint firmware.
I'm guessing that if the phone has been rooted, the Roms will come??
i tried the motochop on the torque, and it said successful and everything, changed the acces to auto allow, and it still isnt working. Superuser is there, but wont work. did you do anything special or anything else?

The next question is which release version are you guys using when attempting root with motochopper? It is now at 1.007SP. I attempted a few different methods while on 1.006SP without success. Personally, I only would like root for general reasons (Titanium Backup to efficiently backup/restore/transfer apps between wipes and possibly tethering) along with reprogramming/disabling the DC button (though 1.007SP has alleviated this a bit by cancelling its ability to wake the device while disabled in the system settings; 1.006SP still allowed DC button device wake even while disabled). If this were my primary phone, I would probably commit more time to it, but maybe I will after a little more feedback from yall currently working on it.

I would hold up on purchasing if you think what has been posted thus far is automatically going to lead to custom ROMs to the extent of what you are saying...at all. First off, this phone is currently running 4.0.4 ICS and not even 4.1 JB (so jumping to 4.2 on a phone without wide usership and development would require you to step in, crack your knuckles and figure some stuff out). And, second, there would, likely, have to be some serious porting & dev efforts to fathom anything you just said after seeing a single report of unstable root access. To put things in perspective, this 2-page thread is just about the only public forum activity pertaining the the Torque's root...pretty dismal.
So root for this phone actually is working on the stock rom, and allows bloatware removal & root roms?
I could care less about custom roms, kernels, whatnot. I'm still running an Evo 4G, and would love to be able to pick up this phone for the DC, so that I don't have to carry two cell phones everywhere (My Evo, and the work-issued Direct Connect phone).
I don't care about the latest & greatest (as evidenced by my "ancient" Evo), so this phone would be an upgrade over what I have... assuming that root is available so that I can remove bloatware, add Titanium Backup, Quick Boot, SetCPU, Wireless Tether, and Roam Control.
On my Evo, I run the stock rooted ROM, with the bloatware stripped out & the above Root apps... that's the only reason I need root.

Hi guys it was 1.0006. SP that I rooted at first I had the same problems with superuser at first. So I wiped my phone and used motochop again. Still I had no su ability. So I tried super one click to see if I could get it to fix the root and it said I had root access. Then I went back into superuser and granted permission to then updated the permission and busybox. It worked for me until I had 1.007 SP pushed to my phone and superuser stopped working I'm trying to find a fix and I will. My phone still shows root access I just think we need a superuser that work right.

I have one on each, but I will try on my 1.006SP one first and see what I get. I have to hold off on my updated 1.007SP one because I have to take it in for some hardware issues (no camera focus and one of the faux screws fell out on the front). About to check it out with motochopper on 1.006 (but I think I have already). I will report back.
Update:
So, on 1.006SP, after motochopper, I have shell root using ADB on my PC but no apps recognize root access on the device itself. I am tempted to just allow 1.007SP to install and try from there. It is going to get to a point where everyone has the OTA installed anyway...if that becomes the case, it will be pointless to have root attained on an older version (unless a downgrade option becomes available).

I am a US consumer. About to buy a Verizon LG G3. My number # 1 priority in a phone is, more of less development support for a phone. Number of ROMs being developed, how many choices, mods, frequent updates, and etc.
Clearly, the International version D855 is the King. Number 2 is probably D851, the T-Mobile US Variant with the Unlocked bootloader. International versions are expensive and hard to find in America and it's more or less the same for the T-Mobile version.
I browsed the Development section for all G3 variants on XDA, and surprisingly, the number 3 variant is the Verizon, US Model! Which is fine by me, because it can be unlocked and used on AT&T and I am moving to Verizon soon, for the better coverage and LTE speeds.
I am lined up to pull the trigger on buying the Verizon G3, as we speak, but I need some help confirmation from you guys:
1. Is it true, that with the BUMP'd/TWRP recovery, the Verizon G3 is as good as the Unlocked bootloader models, like D851 and D855? If not, what is the difference, disadvantage?
2. How would you rate the Development support for the Verizon variant of the LG G3?

Having the bump'd twrp is basically the same thing. No matter which way you get to a custom recovery it's all the same. In my opinion its a great phone to have and pretty hard to screw something up. Sky Dragon and Jasmine are my personal favorites as far as Stock roms go. Unless you want to wait for the G4 i would go ahead and pull the trigger. You won't be disappointed.

This is excellent news bud, thank you! What tripped me up was the fact that the T-Mobile version is so much more expensive... Why exactly ?
One question for you, how would you rate the development support for the Verizon variant? And yes, I'm more interested in CM12 kind of ROMs.
Lastly, if the seller has OTA'd to Lollipop, can I somehow bring it back to the KK firmware in I want that?

Must be that Qi charging antenna sticker... The VZW comes with only the NFC installed, but it is easy and cheap to upgrade.

I have to say that it is pretty excellent. Lots of support just for the VZW variant on the AOSP side and many of the goodies from the main LG G3 thread are also applicable. I find the best phones for hacking up are the ones available on most of the US carriers.

Easiest way would be to flash a KK stock-based ROM. That way, you go bloat-free, get fixes, and stop the OTA if you're freezing on KK.

Thanks for the response, bud. Wireless charging really hasn't been a factor me, so far, so it's a non-issue. Good to hear of the VZW Dev support, although I'd have to say it's probably because someone found a way to "bump" or install Custom Recovery on a locked Bootloader, which is every phone on Verizon ! Too bad, because these LTE phones are factory unlocked for Global use, but so crippled, thanks to the bootloader non-sense. I wish the exploit extended to the Note lines or even HTC phones.
This is one reason why we see most of the T-Mobile variants selling like hot cakes, even though Sprint has that as well, the supported GSM functionality and bands are just not there.

I personally prefer the tot method, but that probably because I've got a Win 7 computer ( Win 8 has apparently caused some issues for some using the tot method), and its the first method that came out that I used so just stuck with it, but either would work great. And no, no downgrade nonsense or risk of bricks, regardless of firmware it comes on (at least as of this writing lol)

Although, from a little bit of reading around here, I have heard of at least a few instances of people restoring stock firmware and in the process, somehow magically clearing out their IMEI to 0 !!! Is this actually true and a common occurrence? I heard their is a process to correct is via QPST, but it is arduous.
I wish someone did a video of Root + TWRP from starting to end for the LG G3 (Verizon version). Seeing how this will be my first LG phone, terms still confuse me, like Root method names, what exactly does "stump" or "bump" mean, and yeah, getting TWRP on there.

I can't speak to the IMEI clearing as being a "common" issue....I've restored at least 5 different phones using the tot method, several multiple times and never once had an issue. I do, however, maintain a backup in the cloud of the EFS partition (same basic thing I think? I just know it's an important partition lol) for every phone I oversee and have messed with.
As for your question about stump/bump/etc., there are several different root methods out now...."Stump root" was just the name of the first - and so it's what I've always stuck with. "Bump", on the other hand, is the method for "unlocking" the bootloader and flashing TWRP.
As for the play store 'auto' app, I hadn't even heard of it until you said something and I searched. I'm assuming you're talking about this. All I can say is that I've never used it so I have no idea. Below I've laid out the steps that I, personally, follow each and every time I've gotten a new device or restored one. I realize there may be simpler ways out there now, but I've been in this specific community since the very beginning, and so I've just stuck with the "tried and true" stuff that came out first.
As for the one click TWRP installer on the play store, again I don't know. However, flashing the "bumped" TWRP via flashify is probably the easiest way to do it (it is not officially stated by the devs to work, but countless people including myself numerous times have confirmed it does).
So, TLDR:
If I were to get a brand new, VS985 today, here is the exact set of steps I would follow (I just got another one 2 weeks ago and these are what I did, and have always done):
1). Use the tot method, found here to restore (downgrade) back to the initial stock release software (version 10B_03). Alternatively, you can use the "kdz" method found here, but on my Windows 7 PC the tot method has always worked like a charm and the one time I used the kdz method it seemed a bit sketchier, but to each their own. I think the main "push" for the kdz method was that some people were having trouble getting the tot method to work on computers w/ Windows 8/8.1.
2). Once that's done, reboot and do minimal setup, then use stump root (found here) to root. Follow the directions exactly, and as long as you're on 10B it will still work - it's just been patched in newer software versions. After rooting and rebooting, then install superSU from the play store, open that, update the binary via "normal" method and then reboot once more. After that reboot, uninstall the stump app, you don't need it anymore.
3). Then, install Flashify from the play store. To be safe, I usually open it and make sure I've granted root, then close it and open superSU and make sure it's got the green mark next to it signifying it has full root access (again, just to be sure). Then, download the "bumped" TWRP image from here, and put it somewhere you can find it on your INTERNAL storage (not sure if this is vital, but again, just being safe). Also, for later, download the zip of TWRP 2.8.6.1 from here
4). Use the Flashify file browser to flash that recovery image you just downloaded to the your internal storage. Let it do it's thing, then reboot when it prompts you.
5). You should now boot up into TWRP. Use the install function to update from the TWRP you just flashed (2.8.0.0) to the 2.8.6.1 zip you just downloaded. Then use reboot>recovery to confirm it took.
6). That's pretty much it. With that you're fully rooted + unlocked. Only other thing I would highly recommend at this point is following the guide here to back up your EFS partition, and then store it to your Google drive or dropbox or other cloud storage or somewhere safe lol. If you're gonna stay stock I'd freeze the system update apps, or better use just flash skydragon or jasmine roms as they're great stock-based roms.

All I can say is that I've never used it so I have no idea. Below I've laid out the steps that I, personally, follow each and every time I've gotten a new device or restored one. I realize there may be simpler ways out there now, but I've been in this specific community since the very beginning, and so I've just stuck with the "tried and true" stuff that came out first.
As for the one click TWRP installer on the play store, again I don't know. However, flashing the "bumped" TWRP via flashify is probably the easiest way to do it (it is not officially stated by the devs to work, but countless people including myself numerous times have confirmed it does).
So, TLDR:
If I were to get a brand new, VS985 today, here is the exact set of steps I would follow (I just got another one 2 weeks ago and these are what I did, and have always done):
1). Use the tot method, found here to restore (downgrade) back to the initial stock release software (version 10B_03). Alternatively, you can use the "kdz" method found here, but on my Windows 7 PC the tot method has always worked like a charm and the one time I used the kdz method it seemed a bit sketchier, but to each their own. I think the main "push" for the kdz method was that some people were having trouble getting the tot method to work on computers w/ Windows 8/8.1.
2). Once that's done, reboot and do minimal setup, then use stump root (found here) to root. Follow the directions exactly, and as long as you're on 10B it will still work - it's just been patched in newer software versions. After rooting and rebooting, then install superSU from the play store, open that, update the binary via "normal" method and then reboot once more. After that reboot, uninstall the stump app, you don't need it anymore.
3). Then, install Flashify from the play store. This is probably the BEST post I have EVER been a recipient of at XDA. And trust me, I have been here since almost 2008! So please accept my deepest gratitude, so detailed, and so patient, really excellent job and excellent member of the community!
I ordered my phone, it is used, so not sure what build it will have, but if it took the OTA, then likely, it's LP and I would have to downgrade to 10b, like you said and then use Stump to Root. Problem is, since we can't backup EFS without Root, or TWRP, rather, it is making me nervous to use the TOT method first, which as I mentioned earlier, I have read, people blowing their IMEIs like that before ...
With that said, I think you have laid everything out nicely for me, just a matter of getting the phone, sitting down, and getting through the process . What would make it easier, is a Rooting method without the downgrade, but that's just me being really nit picky .
The other thought lingering in my head... since this my first LG, do I enjoy a Optimus UI ROM for a bit or go straight for the no nonsense CM12 or 12.1? Do you guys have the non working NFC on CM ROMs as well or other bugs that are common like that? I heard the LG G3 stock ROM got super laggy and heats the phone up!

I understand your concern about the whole imei thing, I'd be the same way had I not done it so many times. Could you link the places where you've seen people wiping out their imeis supposedly? Also, if you're willing to do a little reading, something along these lines MIGHT work just to obtain root while still on STOCK LP (which I'd what I'm assuming it would come on:

If you do go this route and try to root while still on stock and before downgrading so that you can backup the efs partition, then be sure to NOT install twrp unless you do a bunch of reading beforehand as I believe it is the aboot that changed on LP and if you try to flash the twrp images I posted while on stock LP you'll get secure boot errors and have a heck of a mess. IMHO, better to either bite the bullet and do the downgrade straight (as I haven't seen these imei wipes you're noting and I've done several myself with zero issues), OR try and root stock LP, then backup the EFS partition, and THEN downgrade through the steps I posted.
Either way, with the Roms, its pretty much same as normal. I never recommend full stock, as if you're gonna root and unlock, you might as well use it IMHO. Stock is good if your most important things are stability and (at least currently and in my experience) battery life, while aosp based is better if you like the cleaner look, and most customizability. Either way you'll be OK. If you go for stock LG, I'd recommend either jasmine ROM or skydragon ROM. I've used skydragon ROM for a bit and its great if you love stock. I'm more of an aosp guy and so I currently use CM 12.1 and its easily DD stable for me, but not without it's quirks - sometimes the screen double tap to wake doesn't work or screen doesn't come on post-call, sometimes the battery life ain't great, sometimes it runs hot, etc. but all typically good enough for reasonable DD stability. I've started using 777kernel on top of the CM 12.1 flash and the device seems to run a bit cooler.

I think let me get the phone I will keep, and will figure it out how to Root and Bump it. This phone I have to return, the item was not as described, but incidentally, came with Android 4.4.2! I imagine a simple Stump and Bump would have worked like a charm here?
In the end, playing with Optimus UI/LG UI, I couldn't find anything really that would make me stay with it. Outside of the camera app, 4K recording, and some minor features which I love, but no one else cares about.. like the Phone Muting and Speaker options in the Notification bar, while on a call. Can you believe, I couldn't even find a replacement app/dialer that could do that on AOSP ROM !?
Since you are a CM12.1 user, can I ask you what works on it and doesn't? NFC? Bluetooth? Knock-on, but NOT Knock Code, correct? IR Blaster? And have you had much luck with Xposed?
Please let me know your thoughts and input? Also, for CM12/12.1, do I need a special kernel for Knock on (and Knock Code) to work? If so, which one?

The stock camera is surely missed, but the screen clarity is still amazing, the removable battery is sizeable, the sound is decent (no boom sound though), and you can slap an external SD card in it for more fun. The real appeal of this is that the hardware setup is pretty awesome for running and testing custom software. The LG stock ROM is really lackluster; a good AOSP ROM makes far better use of it.

Yes, all of this works fine in the 12.1 ROMs I have tested out. You get knock-on and knock-off at the status bar. Quick Remote has been ported and works great. Most things that you might use Xposed to do are integrated in a good AOSP/CM based ROM already. I have not seen a need to install it on AOSP, just stock.

If the dev baked the feature in, the kernel that comes with it should work.

That would be me.
Yup, the second time around it worked just fine when I flashed back to 10b so I could then take the LP OTA. Of course, now we know that you can use the 12b image to flash back to official KK to take the OTA, or you can now flash the official 23C image that's out there and one-click root it.
Glad my post has been of use. I definitely wanted to share my experience so that others who experience the same issue can then get it rectified.

I wanted to follow up/close the loop on this thread and thank you guys once again for all your help! I received 12B on my phone, was downloading materials to TOT down to 10B to root with stump, till I found this:

Now I am Rooted, TWRP'd 2.6.8.1, is it?, and efs backedup as well!
This is my first LG ever, so I will use stock ROM on it for a few weeks. It is unbelievable how LITTLE stock ROM support is, compared to the CM stuff, across the board for the G3. Maybe your experience is different, but that is what I have found. For every 5 aosp builds there is one stock ROM. And the Verizon variant is no different, only Jasmin and skydragon available. Please do correct me if I am wrong, and there are more ROMs out there to try? I still can't believe the lack of stock ROMs considering how crucial the camera is on this phone!
Between the sd and Jasmine, I think I will start out sd. Yes Jasmine is smaller and also updated later?, but also a little too complicated to install with separate Zips and stuff. What o you guys think?
Finally, if I go the aosp route, which likely I will in a few weeks, which one do you recommend for best features, updates, and performance/battery life?
Lastly, and possibly the most important question... What camera are you using on your CM ROMs ? I found that Lenovo was the best on my Note 3, best features and quality. Although a battery drain, no 4K, or HDR, and Panorama ... What do you guys think?

Nope, no other main stock based Roms for the G3....SD and Jasmine. If I were running stock I'd go SD with the custom kernel packaged with it. As for AOSP, people may disagree with me here, but I just sitck with CM. I like the idea of nightlies and being able to easily find updates from their websites and keep tabs on the progress updates merged, but that's just me. Recently I've been running CM with the 777 kernel, but only because the stock kernel seemed to be running very warm and draining battery a fair bit faster than usual. As for the camera, I again just stick with stock, as I find its good enough for me. I flashed several motorola, lenovo, etc. camera mods but it seemed like all too often it'd either be glitchy beyond measure or would break FFC in certain apps I knew to be otherwise working, etc. So I just started sticking with stock.

I like focal (altho deprecated) it's in the play store. Lots of camera options.
If you do end up on some non stock roms, and have a dual band router, turn the channel on it to 11. It doesn't fix the wifi problems 100% but it may help.
Also there's plenty of g4 stuff floating around if you look for it.
Also you shouldn't have more than 0.25-0.5%/hr idle drain. If you do then somethings wrong. I'd install better battery stats right away and charge up to full and unplug before bed.
Amplify and greenify help but really the display is your battery culprit. I like cf lumen to help adjust the display from day to night usage.

Guys, horrible day of flashing.
GPS issues with both SD and Jasmine. Tried both stock and SD kernels, as well as 12B and 23C radios, no dice :'(!
Resurrection Remix, not enough options for me and zero GPS locks :'(!
BlissPop came the closest. Bluetooth worked, Xposed, had the options I wanted, but GPS is still not strong enough indoors, and there is an issue WiFi not autoconnecting on each boot :'(!
Long story short, I think I need to head back to 12B somehow. Can anyone please tell me how? I will TOT to 10B, but then, how do I get to 12B? I can't find the image for it anywhere! Please do help, I need a reliable
working phone tomorrow, porting my number into a new carrier...

Some people have to tot back to get gps working. For me, flashing sky always did the trick. Sometimes it takes longer or a reboot, and even setting gps to gps only (strange huh)?
Didn't u make a TWRP backup of working firmware?
I would seriously try flashing skydragon again. Why do u need gps indoors anyway?
Not sure about the tot but I think u can just take updates. Once u get to 10b please make a TWRP backup if you haven't already.

Thanks for the quick response bud. I will try SD again, maybe, but for now, I liked how Stock felt out of the box which was 12B. I feel like with rooting, manual debloating, and maybe the CPU thermals mods, I would have a snappy 4.2 device.
I'm stupid, I did not Nandroid the 12B I had . Thought it would be like Samsung, each firmware easily available for download on the Internet to flash via the LG Flash Tools.
I will TOT to 10B tomorrow, but then question is, how do I upgrade or OTA to 12B? Would it give me options on which update to take? Or will it take me to the latest, which is 23C?

Does anyone know of a custom recovery that has been compiled for the LG L15G (AKA Sunrise)? I've been looking all weekend for one and haven't had any luck. I know there's no official build of either CWM or TWRP available for it, but I'm hoping to find an unofficial build that will work. I have it rooted already, but I've not been able to find a recovery for it and I don't want to do any more hacking till I have that.
Also if anyone can point me towards a decent custom ROM for this thing I'd appreciate it. I haven't had any luck finding that either.

Does anyone know of a custom recovery that has been compiled for the LG L15G (AKA Sunrise)? I've been looking all weekend for one and haven't had any luck. I know there's no official build of either CWM or TWRP available for it, but I'm hoping to find an unofficial build that will work. I have it rooted already, but I've not been able to find a recovery for it and I don't want to do any more hacking till I have that.
Also if anyone can point me towards a decent custom ROM for this thing I'd appreciate it. I haven't had any luck finding that either.

Just picked this phone up too, any luck on getting a ROM for it?
I picked one up....couldn't resist for just $9.82. I didn't let it update, so I was able to root it with Kingroot 4.6. Quite snappy after all the bloatware was removed. Have about 1.5gb of internal memory left, but added an 8gb microSD. I haven't been able to findy any recovery, doubt one exists. Nice little emergency phone to have in the car or backpack.
Just picked this phone up as well, and KingoRoot doesn't work. I wasn't prompted for a firmware update when I first cranked it up so I guess I'm on some version that isn't supported? Can anybody clarify what the status of this device is currently? I've got the Tracfone version.
I just rooted my LG L15G tracphone with KingRoot and it worked immediately. Great!
Next step is to get this 10 dollar phone unlocked.
By the way, my firmware version is: Android 4.4.2

I just got this phone for Christmas. What version of Kingroot did you use? The ones I'm downloading don't work. (The one I've tried says something about no available root strategy and adds me to some stupid que line or something. There is no "try it" button after it does this.) You happen to have the specific APK you used and what version was your phone on when you rooted it?
Currently mine is Android version 4.4.2 with kernel version 3.4.0. I haven't attempted to update it yet as I am to assume that would be a bad idea. Unless you have a version newer then mine, then I guess updating would actually help me in this situation.

I really want to root it as I want to remove some bloatware like McAfee and Polaris office. I would also like to uninstall Chrome so that I can install it to SD card. (unless Chrome can't be moved to SD card, in which case this would be a waste of time I suppose.) Aside from a few extra Google apps, there really isn't that much bloatware aside from what I already mentioned above. I can wait for a custom rom/recovery (though having a custom recovery would be nice as it would allow me to backup my phone incase something gets messed up). I just want to free up some internal storage by removing the bloatware.
(also, the no outside links thing with new users is annoying. I agree new users shouldn't be allowed to. But please at least code the forum to be smarter. I had to manually remove all the links to a post I quoted before it would let me post. That's kinda stupid. If I quote a post in the same thread I'm responding too that has links, it should be assumed to be safe since the links were posted by a verified member. I would hope the forum could fix that or at least have the common ***king courtesy of removing the links from the quotes for me. )

Ok some interesting news to report. It almost wants to work now. For what ever reason, it randomly decided to finally show me the "Try it" button. (I should have clarified earlier it never displayed that button. It would just say root strategy unavailable and that was the end of it. Now it says there is one and lets me use the Try It button. However it will get to about 60% (though it will randomly stop earlier on other attempts. Sometimes my phone will reboot after it reaches 20% or so) it will just say root failed.
I don't understand why this is seeing that my LG Sunrise is pretty much the same as someone else who managed to root it with Kingroot. It's never been updated. (I even checked for updates and there aren't any).
The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is that the phone isn't yet activated as I have not gotten air time for it yet. Does this root process require the phone to be on an active SIM first?
Root with Root Genius
I have root my LG L15G (Android 4.4.2, kernel 3.4.0+, software version LGL15G10f) with Root Genius for PC v3.0.85.
Of cource, before rooting "Developer options" must be unlocked (5-8 taps on Settings>About Phone>Software information>Build number) and turned on; in "Developer options" must be selected "USB debugging".
After this connect phone to PC. All phone drivers must be installed.
Run Root Genius. When program will ready and say about connect with LG L15G - press one button. After 2-3 minutes root is enabled.
Titanium Backup works. But I have no ideas for unlock the phone to make a possibility work in other GSM-networks, except TracFone's.
Hmm, I had tried Root Genius and that didn't work for me (and yeah I did enable USB debugging. I apparently was using an older build of Root Genius. But I found and used the build you used and still get the unsupported model error. ). My software version is as follows:
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: M8610B-AAAANAZM-1.0.6060
Kernel version: 3.4.0+
Build number: KOT49I.LGL15G11a

There does appear to be some differences in the software version of mine vs the post above me. I'm guessing they changed something. But that's odd as my phone was brand new just like yours assuming you got it around the same time as me.
EDIT. Ok some bad news. Looks like there was a newer software update (that my phone apparently came with) that blocks root and even prevents download mode from working. (I had attempted to boot into download mode but none of the button combinations work and even the root scripts I've tried can't get it to reboot into download mode)
Seems I'm stuck with a phone I probably can't ever root.
It seems it can still be forced into download mode by using a "56k/130k/910k cable" cable (special cable with resistor on one of the data lines). But they are running for $18 on ebay and way to damn expensive for a simple cable with a resistor installed. Resistors are probably only worth pennies each, so they are way too expensive to be charging that much for it.
If I had a such a cable, the root script I had tried awhile back might have worked as it needs to get the phone into download mode to finish the process.
There seems that there's little hope for your phone but I may have a solution. My LG Sunrise got updated as well and got root access with the update. You can use King Root but not Kingo.
Look it up on Google. So far I've had no success on getting to the recovery mode.
I've tried rooting with KingRoot. It will just say it failed after 20% (sometimes it goes higher, but always end with it saying this).
Note that unlike your phone, mine already had the latest update out of the box.

If you still haven't got root yet,for me it was McAfee that's been blocking Kingroot every since Nov.
Even though I never set up an account,it was the culprit..I opened the McAfee app created the account and Disabled.
Went to settings,ALL apps,then opened McAfee..Scrolled down to ''manage space'' and deactivated and hit force stop.
Then I ran KingRoot version 4.8.0 from this site.My device rebooted at around 30%,went back to KingRoot and it finished rooting.

It took a few tries, but after disabling McAfee's root protection (It completely skipped my mind that this stupid app would have a feature that would interfere. ) KingRoot definitely did it's thing. (I had to re-attempt twice because once it rebooted and failed. So I had to kill the app again and try again. That time it rooted without restarting).
I've already uninstalled McAfee and a few other system apps I need to get rid of. (McAfee on a $10 phone? Yeah..... No.... I'll take my chances. )
I also replaced KingRoot with SuperSU and uninstalled Purify and the KingRoot app that installed the root. After cleaning out unneeded bloatware, this phone is pretty responsive now! It used to lag a little and not register touches some times. But after cleaning out the bloatware (McAfee was probably the main source of the lag) it runs pretty well now!
EDIT:
Ok minor issue. I can't seem to uninstall Chrome (since it's a system app on this phone). It keeps reinstalling it self. It won't stay gone. What would be causing that? I wanted to move Chrome to SD so it doesn't take up space. But this particular phone won't let me.
Seems to happen with Polaris Office as well. Not a big deal at the moment. I can just freeze this app so it won't take up any CPU time/ram. Freezing it seems to work fine. Uninstalling it just results in it mysteriously reinstalling it self....
Does yours lose root after rebooting? I tried to run 'adb reboot recovery' for giggles and SuperSU no longer had root when it failed to start the local and booted normally.

I have the Android SDK installed on my desktop but the TWRP porting guide by Dees_Troy is a little bit too vague for a first timer. I was able to extract the stock recovery using dd this afternoon.
I haven't tried to reboot mine into recovery mode. But root sticks when doing normal reboots.

Hang on to that beer money for now, I am working on zeroing the /laf partition to gain access to fastboot hopefully this will work out, and we will have save and easy way to unlock the bootloader on phone to make it flashable

Discovered that the version Verizon is selling (notably the slickdeals thread on the one from Visible) is different. It's -2 vs. -4.
Looks like VZW disabled most of the bands that T-Mobile/Sprint use - 25, 41, 71, for example.
Looking to see if it's possible to enable those bands. One report on SD thread says they bricked their device trying RETUS version but IDK if the bootloader needs to be unlocked first, or if it would even help. Probably more work to unlock these bands if it's even possible.

I'm going to guess as is the case with most other Android devices branded by Verizon that the bootloader will be restricted from being unlocked. There is really no way around this as it's an OEM based policy. If you want to play with custom ROMs or root based modding, I would highly recommend ditching the Verizon or any other carrier branded variant with the exception of T-Mobile/Metro and Google Fi (there are others) that actually allow OEM unlock. Not only that, but if you're looking for certain connectivity bands, you don't want to settle for a carrier device variant designed to use a particular set of bands which don't include the ones you need. No sense getting a Verizon variant to run on T-Mobile/Sprint bands when you can, you know, get the T-Mobile variant in the first place. Get the global unlocked variant model if you can and start from there. Far easier than the headaches you'll get trying to transform VZW to TMUS.
Cross-flashing is not going to unlock bands, you need to change modem configuration. Throw your SoC(Mediatek) followed by "unlock bands" into Google and see if you have any luck.
I also didn't see a forum for the Moto G Pure and was wondering if anyone knows of a custom bootloader like TWRP or CWM for it? I think I have enough understanding of how to sideload the app, I just need something to send the phone. I tried using a random TWRP mod on it but it fails, invalid signature. I haven't tried doing the phone rooting thing in years now, but I have this Moto G Pure phone without any service on it that I'm willing to experiment on. It can be used as a test bed or data extraction device to put code from it on the internet if someone needs it to help custom rom makers for example by testing stuff on it. Perhaps that's why no one has a custom recovery for it yet.

The phone's carrier based on the unactivated sim card shows it's a T-Mobile branded device, but the T-Mobile and other carrier software is inactive other than the few Moto apps. It's just a spare sim locked phone that I can't use my active sim card in. So with that it's now a project phone. I would like to mainly just unbloat it and free up all that used space occupied by the recovery partition. I don't necessarily need a whole new ROM, just want to root it. That's the only way to erase those factory files that I know of.

So there is only scam guides trying to tell you "How to unlock your phone" or "Install TWRP on Motorola devices" and other clearly click bait sites. I can't even find the stock rom for it on Motorola's site, just outdated versions from 2016, with different build numbers, that can't be right.
All I know is unlocking the bootloader was the first step on all the guides and I've done that. Got a warranty voided notice and everything. There currently isn't a custom recovery mod for this model as far I can tell. If I can ever find that then I can try Linage or just debloat Android 11 which is probably the safer and easier option provided I can find that Custom Covery'.
When it boots up now, it has to tell me it's unlocked and all the dangers it poses. Dangerous if you cared about what was on it I suppose. There is nothing on it I can't just copy back over to it, other than the stock operating system.

Well I was able to use Magisk to "root" it with the patched boot file trick, but still that's not the same thing as I did before with a Samsung phone and the CWM recovery deal. That gave the user all the control they wanted. Even though the phone claims I have root access, I'm not sure what to do with Magisk's root trick. I still don't see a way to backup or install a different operating system or just a blank Android 11 OS. My knowledge there is limited and there isn't a custom recovery for this model as far as I can tell.
So I still can't wipe the drive or remove the OEM partition that contains the installers for the bundled stuff. I'd still need some form of interface that has more features than the stock Fastboot and Bootloader modes offer I guess, or I just don't know how to use the software tools correctly. It's still locked even with root as far as I can tell but if there is something more I'm missing or an additional app to install for example, like SU. Is that still a thing? If I'm on the right track let me know.

Thanks for the reply!!! I am speaking from a place of semi-ignorance here but I would thing that you could install SuperSU from inside the system, right? As long as the root binary is there...idk though and from what I hear, chainfire is not responsible for SuperSU anymore so it has become somewhat sketchy. I saw a post (about this phone, I think) that mentioned having to install terminal emulator and running root command from there to achieve legit root after flashing the patched boot.img. I will see if I can find the post again and update you. Is there anyway you could post the boot.img? Or give me a link for it?

I saw a post (about this phone, I think) that mentioned having to install terminal emulator and running root command from there to achieve legit root after flashing the patched boot.img. I will see if I can find the post again and update you. Is there anyway you could post the boot.img? Or give me a link for it?

Well I can try and learn how to extract the phones information to my computer. I don't know how to do that exactly. The way I was able to get a hold of the phones stock firmware data was by using Lenovo's Smart Rescue and Recovery software.
You have to enable usb debugging mode, attach the phone to the computer with the software running and make sure that you didn't disable/delete Device Help. That app is what makes the Lenovo software work, otherwise the Recovery software fails to see the phone. If it sees the phone correctly then you can see the preselected target firmware it wants you to download under the Rescue tab along the top.
So I did that and grabbed the files it created without actually applying them to the device. The whole thing is a little over 2GB and difficult to host but I put the stock boot.img file here for anyone who needs it. If anyone wants all the files I can try to upload the whole thing one file at at time. That's the way it was sent to me, an uncompressed folder. If I zip it all up and try to upload it most sites will say file size exceeded. Anyway here's the link...

Thanks I was able to patch it with Magisk and achieve root. It looks like Magisk is an SU manager anyway. I have never used it before so this is a first for me. The root and bootloader unlock seem a little pointless without any recovery or ROM though....I guess it's time to learn how to compile one lol
I just picked up the Moto G Pure (XT2163-4) Android 11 aka Red Velvet Cake *sounds yummy lol*....I've been searching around and not seen any info about any rooting method for this device....besides the "Root All Motorola Phones" crap...and I don't feel like risking making a paper weight with it. Even on here it doesn't show up in the...add device list....was going to add to my profile...but can't.

Yeah now we're on the same page then. I thought the same thing, not much use to have an unlocked boot loader and root access without software to make use of it. I gave the phone to my nieces to play with for now, but it's with in arms reach if I need it for instructions yet to be defined. I should receive updates to this post if anyone else responds.

Yeah appears it was produced in late 2021 or sold at that time so it's new and no one has made any custom firmware's or recoveries for it as far as I know. I don't know how to do that, requires computer programming skills. I don't have any of those.

I feel your pain! Had mine a few days and of course came to XDA immediately to find the DL on this joint but no luck... Ya I definitely don't recommend one click root method for this. If you want, I can post/link the patched boot.img i made with magisk. Mine boots with it and have confirmed root.

Excellent, it's nice to be caught up with everyone else haha!! I am going to do some digging and posting and whatnot to try to find some info on porting a recovery for this model. I feel like it can't be too different from at least one or two of the other G series phones. I will see updates as well so please post if you come up with anything!!
BTW does anyone know the process of creating a device page for this joint?! I think this phone is definitely worth some development...

Good luck finding anything that will load onto the phone. Seems like it would be possible to install LineageOS on it if nothing else. You'd think by now installing a phone's operating system would be similar to how operating systems are installed on other computers. All I get is invalid signature, way to much security (for them) on phone OS'es. With phones and PDA's apparently you can't just find the OS you want to use and install it. Where's the generic and bloat free Andriod 11 stock OS/firmware at? No such thing? It's either "Gaggles" way or nothing apparently. (It's ok if you don't know either, maybe someone else has more information about that.)

Ya I'm definitely not going to try anything on the actual device, (ESPECIALLY if I am trying to put it together myself) but I am pretty sure you can test that stuff on a virtual system. Some kind of android emulator or whatever. As for a stock/debloated/de-odexed ROM, I haven't seen one but that couldn't be all that difficult to put together, right? I mean as long as the patched boot.img is included anyway. I feel like a recovery would be a higher priority though...? BTW, I have never used Lineage before, how is it?

Hey boys I actually got rid of the moto g pure...for now at least lol! GREAT phone and I would be willing to get it back once there is some dev work done on it...will definitely be watching the threads on it. Good luck boys!!!
