Audio over HDMI - Remix OS for PC

Hi all,
I am using Remix 2.0 on my Intel NUC DN2820FYKH connected to my TV via HDMI.
There is no audio over HDMI. How can we fix this?

I am having the same issue with my Nuc DN2820FYKH. Are you running yours from USB?

I am running mine from an SSD and it keeps freezing on the Remix OS boot screen. Got it to actually boot up once, but after that it just freezes everytime! Dont know if it's the SSD... I'm gonna try from USB and see if that fixes it..
Have you had any freezes on yours? Did you use the legacy boot iso?

If the system did boot one time after installation, your problem probably is your custom grub entry.
About audio over HDMI, it's a known Linux issue, and Android-x86 has not alsamixer, so we can't find a solution for this problem yet.

According to the technical specifications, the Remix Mini supports multichannel audio output over HDMI. So is this problem specific for x86 platforms? I have managed to get audio over HDMI working on a Linux platform (Ubuntu), although it was quite cumbersome.
So might this be just a configuration issue? Unfortunately, I have no clue where to start trying.

Remix Mini is designed for Remix OS (and vice-versa). Our notebooks aren't. You can solve your issue on Ubuntu with ALSA. And there is the problem: Remix OS doesn't use ALSA.
Yes, it is a configuration issue, but in a deep and advanced level.

Thanks for the link. I spent hours trying to make this work, but to no avail. After spending more than a week trying to turn my NUC DN2820FYKH into an HTPC running on Android, I have given up for now. In addition to the problem with HDMI audio, I haven't yet found a way to use the NUC's built-in infrared module on Android. There are a couple of initiatives to port LIRC to Android (e.g. Irdroid), but they focus on using the device as an IR transmitter, whereas I would like the NUC to function as an IR receiver.

You applied a patch to the kernel?

Yes, I did. Since I didn't have the kernel sources installed, I just replaced the library file (snd-hda-codec.ko) as suggested in the thread. I also tried different values for the kernel parameters in the grub menu item (it's a dual-boot system with Lubuntu installed in the boot partition). But none of these worked out. I really like to experiment, but applying kernel patches is something that I tend to stay away from.
I switched to the latest build of Android-x86 (4.4-r5) which I believe is the groundwork for Remix OS. I can see the HDMI device when I type 'alsa_aplay -l' (card 0, device 3). In Lubuntu, it's a simple case of switching the default device. But as lucasdeeiroz has pointed out, ALSA functionality is not fully implemented in Remix OS / Android-x86.

the same here, no HDMI sound on ny old Asrock ION 330HT-BD

testing release_Remix_OS_for_PC_64bit_B2016040501 in Asrock ION 330HT-BD but:
HDMI, Audio out normal, composite audio (vulgar RCA) and even have experienced the DIGITAL OUT spdif and nothing gives/no sound in Kodi or the Remix.
there will be no way to get around this problem?
sorry my bad english

Also on my asrock Q2900M (Intel processor) i've no sound through HDMI. Is there any workaround?
Thank you very much.

Media Center Rom

I am working on a mediacenter Rom and I am looking for suggestions for remote control apps for android to control the Q anyone have any good suggestions on controlling the Nexus Q over bluetooth or wifi. This is my only hiccup for this rom.
How far have you got with the ROM yet?
right now i use Bluetooth mouse/keyboard combined with adb over wifi, do you need more control than this?
I've tried a VNC approach but it was a bit strange doing everything from a browser window, but using VNC I used the VMLite_VNC_Server_1_0_4.apk install on Nexus Q
i use ADB and a BT mouse myself at the moment to navigate through the Q. did you manage to add a different launcher on startup?
BT Keyboard?
The tutorials on this board for getting BT Mouse work fine for me. I can't get BT Keyboard working though. If anyone has had success with that let me know!
---------- Post added at 08:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:26 AM ----------
Also I've compiled the kernel to support NFS and CIFS. Recommend adding that to your ROM.
Plex has worked best for me in terms of a consistent playback. This requires Plex media server to be run somewhere else. As its transcoded you can tune the bitrate for consistent playback. I've tried a variety of other players accessing the media via NFS, however none of them can handle full bitrate MKV. Probably it just exceeds the capability of the device.
Romz
My goal is to have a rom others can flash pretty easily and use an existing android device to navigate on the Q.
I'm honestly just figuring out what basic things to throw on the Q for now I might just put a way to flash gapps, but install xbmc.
Heres the process right now that im stuck with now:
-Nandroid restore using the same method I posted for restoring.
(I've been researching the possibility to have a script push and restore the the rom)
-use OTG USB with keyboard and mouse to pair with device
(I've used tablet remote from the play store but the only issue is that the text input does NOT work so searching for things on the store sucks)
But since most people got them at IO the current owners should be pretty confident with adb.

How is the play store working on your ROM? able to download/update?
Are you using OTG USB with a hardware adapted or software? (just wondering)
Why do you need to Nandroid Restore the ROM as opposed to making a flashable zip and installing it over CWM?

1. Haven't tried/ im messing with the build.prop
2. Im using an OTG cable with a USB Hub w/ a keyboard and mouse
3. CWM is a mess right now the text is super tiny on a 1080p tv and I can't get a hold of the dev on rootzwiki to get the source from him so I fix the screen resolution.

Cool
What's ur progress on the ROM so far? What source are you building it from?
Would it be easier to get the Q working using CM and then just add the xbmc app to act as a media centre? Would probably be less dedicated by could utilize the Q's full potential.
Just my 2 cents.
By the way, please don't get me wrong. I fully appreciate your work!

I think the perfect remote software AND the perfect launcher just don't quite exist yet.
One suggestion though... you can probably get the tablet remote to work properly if you tweak the key layout in your rom as I've described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892359
You could remap each of the letters to whatever key input is being sent by tablet remote.
Keep us updated on your progress!

I agree better to have a full CM ROM on here than just an app as the front, but I think he is making a a full ROM, but not sure..
Remote
I don't see why some off you are having problems controling the Q I only used adb once to root and navigate to get my stuff ready. Has far has a controller this is the best mouse keyboard combo I found small portable controll type http://www.ipazzport.com/16A.html is a full keyboard plus it already has the android buttons on it. there is a tutorial here how to redirect the home button to call that way goes to launcher instead of the screen saver thing(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892359). Use nova luncher it wont work with trebuchet from CM9. I have a otg cable with usb hub currently with controller, ps3 controller(yes it works fine with usb cable to play deadtriger) 16gb usb with movies(use stick mount). I apreciate the effort of getting xbmc but I also think a full android rom is better
ohh I forgot use droidmote server is far better than tabletremote
Can't wait see what you come up with OP!

No I don't think you could do that since we don't have a custom kernel, usb mount is built in in android, maybe if you format it fat 32 it could work, good luck. I tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.mounter&hl=en but it won't work.
For keyboard you don't need drivers android reads those input by default even with put root.

If you are still active on this, I suggest we pool resources. If the deal goes through, I'll also have a Gnex to help aid in development in about a week.

Please , please , pretty please still be deving on the Q. It's lonely in Q land and its driving me crazy. :silly:

Edit /system/build.prop and change tv.hideStatusBar.enable to false
Stuttering
Change you Netflix quality to the middle one. I had issues with the top quality setting.
So I have both the Jynxbox HD and also the mini HD.
Both came with a remote but the mini remote does not have the gyro or acts like a mouse.
Any ideas why the Jynxbox HD remote will not work on the mini except the power button?
I looked at the remote.conf in /system/etc and they are the same between the 2 models.
I have taken both your ROMs links above apart and I do not see the reason why? In fact both ROMs look 100% the same?
Build.prop model= the same device model. I think there is no difference between them that I can see.
Might be a hardware thing between them for the IR remote? Any ideas?
Also the remotes are NOT 2.4 as the specs say. Both are IR.
One thing I will say. Thanks for startin this thread. There is not much info on these devices out there! I am learning these devices the hard way!

The HD remote needs the included USB dongle plugged in to work as a Gyro. If you plugin the dongle to the Mini it should behave like an airmouse/gyro.

I noticed they look 100% identical myself, but I wanted to post what I yanked from each device regardless. Gives the dev's more to play with in the end. The remotes should work with either device. I have both on the same desk and ended up discontinuing use of the remotes due to cross over.

Hey there,
Been playing with the Jynxbox HD and Mini. I've been using a 3TB HDD for my local content and Jynxbox is able to read it. It's formatted to NTFS so I guess external HDD's up to 3TB and NTFS are supported.
Hope that helps someone out
Possible Video Decode Chip

Not that I am aware of. Do you know of a possible candidate ROM to test?
There has been some discussion of building a Cyanogen based ROM... But, there is a lot of work that would need to go into it and a good copy of the kernel is going to be needed.

There is a thread on pivosforums that outlines the fix for netflix. Having said that: I applied the fix and found the netflix playback to be a bit lacking. On the full quality setting I had a lot of stuttering and buffering problems. Dropping the quality down to a level resulted in pretty poor quality on my TV.

Stuck on A N D R O I D [email protected]_x86_64:/ #

I have attached a screenshot of the screen I get stuck at. I have no idea why it does this....Am I supposed to type something in here to get it to continue??
I have tried installing the 32 bit version also but nothing works.
I found a youtube video of a guy saying that it relates to the video card....His fix supposedly makes it use onboard video rather than the video card. Tried doing that but did not seem to work....Probably because switching to onboard video requires me to change my HDMI cable to the onboard port maybe??
Here is what says:
A N D R O I D [email protected]_x86_64:/ #
It just sits there with a blinking cursor
Any help would be appreciated.
FYI: I installed on one of my extra internal hard drives. Also..I tried two different versions and both had the same resulting screen.
I am on Windows 8.1 X64. with 12GB RAM
Using a GeForce GTX 670 video card if that matters.
While installing it says I have a write speed of 126 mb's or something per second
Thanks in advance

I was able to fix my problem.
My issue was that Remix OS would not work with my video card. If you have an onboard video enabled processor you may be in luck as I was.
All I had to do was go into my bios settings and enable my onboard video. Then plug in my monitor into the onboard video and it worked!!
In my bios I was able to set the settings to auto select. That was it would automatically work if a cable is plugged into it.
I hope this helps some people out.
Good luck!!!!
One more thing.....As you boot up it will ask you what OS you want to boot....Windows or Remix OS. This will show up on the video card input. Then when you choose Remix OS I just unplugged my HDMI from the video card and plugged it into the onboard and you will see it booting up to the Remix OS. If you have two monitors and two cables so both are attached I suppose you would not need to do this.
P.S. please hit the thanks button if I was helpful!!
Thank you...

Will disney plus work on Android x86?

This service is driving me crazy they have an offline viewing thing, but it won't let me output to a Fire stick or a basic HDMI, and there is no windows app This is a solution I have been considering to just install Android x86 on my laptop, but I just wonder if it would work, can someone verify this?

This service is driving me crazy they have an offline viewing thing, but it won't let me output to a Fire stick or a basic HDMI, and there is no windows app This is a solution I have been considering to just install Android x86 on my laptop, but I just wonder if it would work, can someone verify this?

[S912 DEVICES][ROM] Android Pie - the future is near

Hi All,
Below information is for the dev's on these boards that have the knowledge to create roms and use the SDK from below.
I hope we can spark a flame and reuse our S912.
I came accross the following android 9 Pie ROM that has been uploaded recently for the Khadas VIM2.
The VIM2 is a S912 board designed for Android TV and Ubuntu. https://docs.khadas.com/vim2/FirmwareAndroid.html
Download Link
The rom is flashed by me with Am Burning Tool on my X92 3G/12G and it booted.
The list that worked: Wifi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Sound.
What did not work: Front Display, 1 out of 4 USB ports, the remote.
So far so good it runs smoothly.
