Is anyone else having issues with Google Messenger resizing photos? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

The title pretty much says it all but I've been having issues with Messenger resizing photos in MMS messages to about ~70-80 kb and 360x640. Using LG's app is slightly better. It keeps the same resolution but lowers the file size to about 500 kb (even with adjusting the settings to keep the original picture quality).

MMS and hangouts both have their restrictions and will downsize/compress files that are too large to send. It's like emails but they won't send if the file size is too large.
I think it's referred to as 'content adaptation'
Send links for your large files through Google drive, box, mega, Dropbox, or whatever free cloud service you prefer.

I understand a little bit of compression but going from 1440x2560 and 2MB down to 360x640 and 70 KB is a bit drastic wouldn't you think?

I guess so but not for web resolution and viewing on a mobile device.
With an unlimited data plan I guess I don't consider it much. If I had a limited data plan then it would be a different story.

So that screenshot said that it's the receiving phone that adjusts the size. The problem is that it's my phone sending the images that is the problem.

My advice:
Get a dropbox account and app, upload your media there, then share your videos/pictures w/ a link to the file or folder you've made.
Once you've made your account, goto gallery, select your video, press "more", and select "share via". Your dropbox account will be one of the options. once uploaded you can send a link from dropbox via email or text.
This is really the only way of sending a video w/o editing and shrinking them.

I also noticed that when you record a video there's an option to record in mms format in the settings. Haven't tried it myself, but it supposedly works. Had this same problem last night. It wouldn't even let me email it. Haven't found a way to change an existing video to mms quality, but still checking. Of course the quality is crap compared to what we're used to.

Just did the MMS setting.... It sucks! Audio terrible and picture blurry/grainy. 5sec vids will not send at all in normal rec mode... :-(

Dropbox or Box.net
some sort of site like that would be best for sharing videos with decent quality with the restraint of MMS recording.
I believe the MMS cap limit is set by AT$T and cannot be changed. That is, unless you're an iphone user, then the cap is magically higher.

Just tried to use google drive to upload a 30 second video. 1st of all it took a half hour just to upload 10% of the video. 2nd, the phone was completely frozen that whole time. I finally gave up and rebooted the phone. I tested google drive with a picture and it worked flawlessly within seconds. It shouldn't be this difficult to share a short video(no matter what method).

Sony "Time-shift" UI, go to see World Heritage in your Xperia!

This is an proprietary app of Sony for mobile devices. This app is basically a collection of World Heritage photos taken by Sony “α” cameras at various times during the day!
This allows you to view the same shot at various times of the day by vertically sliding down the time display. Swiping the picture upwards will reveal an options menu to share the photo, read about on Wikipedia and see a map.
It's running on Android 2.2+ and for display with 480 x 854 pixels or 720 x 1280 pixels!
Below's demo video and pics of Ha Long bay - my country!

Đẹp quá :-x Very nice
It's a quite nice app, although it's a bit laggy.
You can even set the pictures as wallpaper and they will change during the day.

I have now set it as my wallpaper. It's a wonderful application and keeps on cycling the images. It's a must have and is probably the best approach from Sony yet. Kudos. For everyone, just search 'timeshift' in Play Store and you will find the app

Adjust DPI settings?

I've seen some posts in the G2 threads about adjusting DPI.
Can anyone tell me how they're doing this?
My text messages and keyboard are freaking huge. Like Jitterbug huge.
And what is a good DPI to set it to?

Well, first you have to have root. then after that, easiest way is to find the build.prop text file which is located in /System i think and edit it with some text editor. Find the line that controls your LCD density. not Sure which line on the G2 yet. Someone else help? but after you change that line to 360 or so, that's what i've heard so far, then just save the file successfully then reboot and you should have a smaller resolution.
Also, some people have been talking about using xposed framework to change some DPI to stock for some .apk's such as the camera or the launcher etc.
Hope this helps a little.
LCD Density screen shot, 300 dpi and higher

Ouch, I need to learn how to resize.
What are the stock DPI settings? I went back to 480/460 but now everything is too big

Suddenly the exact same thing is happening here. I seem to recall that pictures were loading last weekend when I last used G Maps. Now no pictures are loading in the app. T-Mobile V10. I'm gonna give it some time and see if it's maybe a temp. problem on the server end.
---------- Post added at 11:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:50 PM ----------
Update: i uninstalled the updates to the app and pictures are loading now. So maybe it's just the latest version of the app that has the problem.
---------- Post added at 11:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:53 PM ----------
Yep, let the app update thru play store and pics are not loading again. Must be a bug in the latest version of the app
A friend with a Moto X says the app is working normally, displaying pictures. So maybe it's just the latest versions of the app not showing pics on our phone?
New version of the app is out, but same thing..
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...-and-timeline-settings-apk-download-teardown/
We should all send feedback on the issue thru the app. I enabled 'shake to send feedback' and reported the bug..
I had the same problem on my LG V10 this is a issue with compatibility with the V10 and Latest Google Maps. My wifes Nexus 6 does not have these problems.
Problem fixed in the new release!

S9 - S9+ Camera Pic quality

I recently noticed that my pic's are all only 2.8-2,4 MP, while my setting is for 9.1 MP. My S7 was in the 6.+ MP range, so what is happening here ???
I have used stock and modded camera - all the same.

Can't get screen shot to attach.
Camera settings - picture size 16:9 (9.1 MP)
Well that's 16.9 ratio mp
---------- Post added at 09:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 PM ----------
I use 4:3 so that's the full 12mp..
Think 4:3 if your pc is no wide-screen and you also want to print the pics is better.
If you see your pics on on tvs and won't be printing them then 16.9 is better

I know, but prefer 16:9.
But the problem is it's supposed to be 9.1 MP and not just 3-4.

The size of the image dimensions (Megapixels) has nothing to do with the size of the image file (Megabytes).
Take a 12MP photo with your S9 and check the resolution, it should be 4032x3024.
The pictures from your S7 might have been a less compressed JPG and that's why its jpgs has a bigger file size.
Means you've set the pic size incorrectly as below
