Rooted ZV4 Stock to ZVC update possible and still keep root? - Sprint LG G3

I am about to loan my LG G3 Sprint out to someone and currently only mods I've done is take it back to stock ZV4 and root it with StumpRoot and disabled the handsfree crap. Before I loan it out I'm getting harassed by Update notifications and I'm wondering how do I maintain root and update to the latest ZVC? OR at the very least stop the update notifications.

The latest is actually ZVG. I recently reset my G3 to stock using the LG Flash Tool, then simply installed all the OTA updates up to ZVG. Then I used this script tp root it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/development/ls990-zva-zvb-one-click-root-method-t3212433
This script worked fine, but needed some manual intervention. I put the tips in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70723522&postcount=3
If you want to only update to ZVC and root it, that script should run fine on ZVC also, but I can't confirm. To prevent OTA updates, maybe you can use Titanium Backup to freeze the OTA process.

[Q] LG G3 OTA Updates and Root?

So, I am getting an LG G3 tomorrow.
I already looked up how to downgrade it to 10B, root with Stump or Ioroot, and use Bump! to install TWRP. (Unless the software it comes with will be rootable, but I doubt it. If I am wrong, please let me know!) I obviously don't know everything there is to know, and may have missed some things.
Once I have it rooted.
I upgrade it via OTA keeping root with SuperSU's survival mode.
And it should stay rooted?
Then I use Bump! to flash TWRP into it, or can I do that before and update? I am just getting this phone and I really don't want to mess it up.
Downgrading and rooting it will be no issue, but I am unsure whether I use Bump! to install TWRP before or after updating it OTA.
Or if I should even update it at all and wait until developers say it's okay on the latest software as of Dec. 13th.
I checked around for a good thirty minutes and did not find a clear answer, I am hoping someone can directly clear this up.
I know updating a phone OTA while trying to keep root isn't the smartest thing to do, but if it works then I have the latest software and it's also a rooted device.
Also, the latest software I saw was 12D? Is that it, or is it 11C? I am confused on how the updates are (in the sense of which ones are out for this phone/coming out soon).
In simplicity/TL;DR:
(I did read about my issue, but could not find anything so I asked here!)
Once I downgrade to 10B and root my G3, is it safe to update OTA and keep root? (With SuperSU Survival Mode I'd assume.)
If so, should I flash TWRP with Bump! before or after the updates?
- If after, what should I do? Reflash completely back to 10B?
What is the latest released update for the G3 (Verizon - VS985)?
- Is there a new update coming soon?
Do the updates actually help the phone performance and fix issues without me doing anything to improve performance and fix issues myself?
Thanks!

Do the updates actually help the phone performance not really and fix issues other than lag im not sure what needs to be fixed without me doing anything to improve performance and fix issues myself? for the most part, you will need to tweek and mod yourself to improve performance and fix issues such as lag

One more thing...
When I am updating and another software update is released, I will have TWRP flashed.
Updating it will cause a bootloop.
How can I prevent that?
Using titanium backup (TiBU) or similar program, freeze the app called "System updates 1_...". For me this has worked, though some people seem to still have issues; I'm trying to figure out if it is a TiBU problem or if they have accidentally frozen the wrong thing.
Alternative is to go to /system/app and rename the two LGDMSClient files, add a .bak to the end of the names, then restart.
See this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56061720
Copy the zip in the first post onto your phone. If you accidentally do get an ota after you have a custom recovery, tell twrp to Install that zip
file. It will flush the ota from your system, so you aren't such buying to recovery.

You DO know that you can downgrade back to 10b to root and bump, correct? Just use KDZ or TOT files.
That was one of the other things I researched before getting this phone. Luckily, it came with 10B, but I'm on 12b, rooted and bumped.
Yes thanks. Just preparing everything. I had LG usb driver issue, resolved now with latest from LG. Now downloading 10b TOT. Too many years getting comfortable rooting HTC 's lol.

I know the feeling. For the past 3 three years, I was on Motorola phones, so there was a lot of FXZ files and fastboot flashing for me. Switching to LG meant learning that all over again.
New Question
Here, if any of you know the answer.

Still looking for a way to downgrade with wither OS X or Linux, my only two options.

That I don't know about, since the two tools to flash the TOT and KDZ files are windows based.
Not sure if you could get them to run via Wine or something, but that might be an option, but since it also requires all the drivers and such, I have no idea how/if that would work and wouldn't even know how to start to set that up.
On motorola phones, you could use the fastboot command line tool that comes with the Android SDK and drivers, so that was nice.
But to take the TOT and KDZ files and flash them under Linux, I have no idea.
I got my phone on 11b, and downgraded it.
Used the Stump root, and then I used Bump! to install TWRP.
Forgot to do the updates, oh well another day.
They're not that important., right?
It's often handy to update modem, to pick up any enhancements on the rf side, the sw that actually talks to the cell tower.
I also ended up updating to the 11c boot, and the 12b system. IMG. 12b system picks up Verizon's first VoLTE, what they call Advanced Calling 1.0.
I did the above by using autoprime's flash2xxx zip files, and the .IMG files.

Advanced calling does nothing for me because I believe it's an extra charge on your bill for it. Forget that!
AC 1.0 is no added charge. HD voice is billed the same as any other call. The video part of a video call gets booked against your data plan (I'm grandfathered Unlimited), and free if it goes over WiFi.

This is the second G3 I have purchased. I Suggest using one click root to root. Also stop and Phil's can be flashed using flashing. It seems easier to me dealing with image rather than zip. I've foremost roms and so far my experience has me favoring Bliss Pop. That is what I am running now and to be honest I think I'm going back to 10b. The customizations are nice but to me it's not worth the problems associated with L.P. My opinion Bliss Pop has the best handle on the problems and still too much for me. I'm going to give LP a few months for the developers fix all bugs. Verizon hasn't released LP yet and there is reason behind that other than being big bully carrier. Once again my opinion only. You picked a great phone that is for sure!

Mods please close-- wrong forum

Hey, everyone,
I am new to LG android devices with my G3, and everything I found regarding rooting my new phone says that ioroot, stumproot, and even towel root should work, but none of them have. in ioroot, I ran the batch file and nothing happened. my device did not go into recovery like it was supposed to. Stump just said "sorry, your device is patched", and Towel root, which I had used on my GS5 flawlessly said that my G3 was not supported. I reeeeaaaly want to get mine and my wifes G3s rooted, but nothing is working. Please help!
The root methods only work on the original 10b software release.
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56484240
Make sure to read the first two posts at least.
I believe both methods of getting back to 10b still work as of the current, 12b, VZW software. The kdz approach is supposed to be simpler, and works with more PCs, but only gets you back to a pre-release 10b. I'd use that approach if I absolutely planned to do a custom recovery (Bump'd twrp) and turned off over-the-air updates.
If you want to take the OTA up through 12b, use the second, tot, approach. Beats me what has to be done to preserve root (might be a SuperSU setting?).
I was an early G3 person, immediately rooted 10b when ioroot came out, froze "System updates..." (VZW's OTA app -- called "LGDMSClient" in /system/app), then individually applied the 12c update images (.img files -- there's a thread on that).
Good luck -- an excellent phone!

Thank you! I came from a SGS5 and I am loving this phone so far. There seems to be some differences in the root methods for Sammy and LG devices. Lol I will give this a shot. I'm sure it'll all work out fine.

[Q] ROOTED Verizon LG G3 upgrade to Lollipop

I have a VZ LG G3 that I rooted using StumpRoot. I am trying to do the Verizon system update to Lollipop. It downloads it and then it reboots, but almost immediately it shows me error 0x1117008, and then just reboots again and tells me the update failed. It doesnt give me any other info. Currently my phone shows Android version 4.4.2 and software version VS98511C and shows the Software status as Modified. Is there a way to get Lollipop? Would I have to unroot first? (If so, what is the best way? SuperSU offers me that option). I appreciate any help. Thanks.

You will have to flash back to either stock 12b via KDZ or go back to 10b and upgrade that way. Once rooted, you cannot update to LP via the OTA. Unrooting won't fix it either as it has already been modified.
If you flash back to 12b via KDZ, it will still show your software as modified, but the OTA will take.
Then you can use the one-click root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951) to root LP.

Thank you for the reply. How do I go back to 10b? Also, if I want to use the KDZ method, can it be done with a Linux machine?

Not sure about Linux. I believe it all has to be done via Windows if using the KDZ or TOT methods.
Here is the link to flash back via KDZ:

10b is great, and everything just works. I am not sure why any one wants to "upgrade" to 23c given Google has not fixed the memory leak issues, but if you want to, read on.
If you have rooted, you do not want to upgrade by OTA. OTA is patches to the unmodified stock firmware. It will fail if your phone is in anyway modified. Here is what you can do:
1. Install TWRP manager from Google Play.
2. From TWRP manager you can choose your phone model and download and install TWRP recovery.
3. Follow the instruction from this link to use TWRP to install the 23c
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/rom-rom-base-lp-upgrade-bump-t3051884
Jasmine ROM is basically stock with root, which is probably what you want.

There is an IPv6 fix that you can flash to solve it.
I upgraded using the Verizon tool on the computer. I was rooted.

[Q] Trying to flash last update before lollipop help please?

So I'm new here and it's probably best if I start off with happened.
I was having trouble with okay Google working so I uninstalled app and reinstalled app and no change. Then I upgraded my phone. That was a big no-no. I use streaming media with blue tooth and it wasn't working. So I did a factory data reset and still no luck.
I found a Rom file and used LG flash tool and reset back to stock but I don't think my phone came with this software. I feel like there's a newer version but not lollipop. Does anybody have any idea where to get it? I think it's 12b or something like that. Oh and I used a root checker and apparently I'm not rooted?
Or can someone help me find a Rom like the 12b or just a very very stable Rom with good battery life, there are just way to many to check out. And I don't want to FC, I think that's what its called.
11c is the build I'm looking for..
To get 11c I think you will need to return to 10b via tot or kdz then root, install bumped twrp, then flash up from there. We have a 12b kdz and a pre-release 10b kdz, but not released 10b kdz or 11c kdz.
Thanks for your reply. When I went to update software it said update available but I thought it was lollipop. It says now user declined 10b to 11c. When I check for updates now it says no updates available. How could I fix it to I can update? Do I need to do factory reset?
Also, how does 12b kdz differ from 11c if you know off hand.
I got it! I was able to update to 11c after I did the factory rreset. Thank you so much for your help.

[Q] Trouble updating to Lollipop

So i have a LG G3 Verizon running 4.4.2 and every time i try to update it fails at 2%. i thought i was having this issue because i was rooted so i uninstalled root via SuperSU. The update still didnt work. after that i decided to reinstall root and flash and update or something like that. but all the one-click root applications i try to use say my device is not supported. i now cannot update or re-install root and currently have no idea what to do.
Redundant thread. Replied to you in the other.
