Lenovo Yoga Tab 2 1050F (Looking for custom rom) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey. I am looking a custom rom for Yoga Tab 2 (10.1" 1050F), but I have not had any luck finding any. I have seen similar topics in here XDA about people searching the exact same thing I am, but no body really knew if there is one available. Currenty I'm using the stock ROM (5.01) but I would like to update it to at least 6.X or newer.
Any links or so is highly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
Also, if I posted this in wrong section (I couldn't find any better place to write this), please let me know/move it.

I hear your pain I have 2 yogas and love them. It's sad there is nothing available for these little powerhouses. Apparently the Intel chip is very hard to work with. If I had the knowledge I would be willing to experiment on one of them. At least there is a way to install SuperSU and gain temp TWRP. If you do a little search there is a Exposed Mod available for the multi window feature that allows you to add any app as a multi window.

[Q] Just bought a GTab - Need HELP PLEASE!

Hi Everyone,
I know there are threads that talk about how to root gtab and what to put on it etc. But I would like to give you a bit of background and ask a few questions before I do something that I will regret.
I just bought a GTab (based on all the great reviews everywhere - only after changing (rooting) everything on it). I am not technical so I need step by step guide for it. I am okay with most of it except that I do not have access to the actual Android Market (it comes with some ridiculous market app). I want to be able to download stuff from the real market = Google maps, navigation, Doc to go etc.
Now after reading a ton of posts there are two top options:
- Install TNT lite (some version) with options
- Install Cyanogen (some version)
Are those two options good? What does it mean to install those two things - are they enhancements to the Android OS? Please don't be condescending in your replies - I am just trying to learn and understand.
Most of the step by step guides assume "some ADB thing" is already taken care of or is done.
Could anyone please help me - I would really really appreciate it. Also, how would I back out it something goes wrong (brick it)?
Thank you in advance
P.S. I know I am not the first person to ask this, but I wanted to clarify and be specific.
hunt1976,
You've done the right thing by going slow, looking for info and asking for help.
Read the stickies -- and I have done several posts about memory, storage, recovery and the like in Q&A and General. Most of these things will help you understand
your tablet better.
While you are doing that, get your tablet Updated to Version 3588. You may get
update notices when you hook up to wireless -- I don't know what version you are.
(You can check by going to Settings and About.....)
Also go to the G-Tablet Website:
http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet
and look at the Support and Favorites tabs. Good info. You may want to D/L
some apps and install them and learn about that.
Main thing is to keep improving and learning about your G while having some fun.
Good Luck!
Rev
P. S. -- I could have told your about nvflashing and roms and all that -- but you may
not be there yet. Good to have your feet on the ground first.
Thanks Butchconner,
I went through all the resources that you recommended and have a better understanding of the tablet.
Now, that I understand it and like what I have I would like to change the following things:
- I would like to install the real Andorid Market instead of the Gmarket that's on there
- Replace the current Tap-n-Tap with something more capable
- Should I go with TNT Lite, Cyanogen or something else?
- Can someone give me step by step directions on how to accomplish the above tasks?
Again, thank you in advance for anyone and everyone who will be willing to help.
hunt1976,
Of the things you mention, you need to look for a ROM first. Here are my notions:
TnT Lite -- most like stock of the ROMs and has a lot of standard Android in it. Plus
most of the standard fixes and applications available.
VEGAn Tab -- very much like the Advent Vega and has a nice, polished interface but
some differences in operation from stock.
Cyanogen -- no comment. Never installed it.
Experimental ROMS -- I don't recommend these unless you are a really experienced
modder. Too many people get in too deep too fast here.
So that's the choices I would put forth.
To choose, go to the Developer Forum and find the threads on TnT Lite 4.x.x and Vegan 5.1.x and read them. Those threads are what you will have to install by so
look at them to see what fits you.
Hope this helps,
Rev

It's a good generic how to guide for switching to a new ROM.
Hey, I'm exactly like you a few days ago. Just bought the g-tab as my first android device and totally worried / confused about getting a new rom on there. I liked playing with the Xoom and iPads in the store, but wanted the same experience for cheap and knew that I would have to root this g-tab thing to unleash that awesome hardware value. I read most of the stickies and followed instructions carefully. So far I've easily put TNT Lite 4.2 and it really is much faster and more usable then the Tap N Crap that viewsonic shipped. You won't miss that old interface - just follow directions carefully and ask these guys if you get stuck along the way. Good luck.
Hey Phrancis5,
What directions did you follow? Also, did you get the real android market installed on it after putting TNT Lite?
Hi EVERYONE on this post,
I DID IT, I DID IT. I got TNT Lite 4.4 on the Gtab and WOW, as advertised. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU EVERYONE

[Q] Tapas / DimSum (Crippled) Android on Sharp 72xxU Thread

Sharp has made a pretty nice Keitai-style Android phone: sh7218u , but has crippled the OS only to run chinese apps. (They call it DimSim)
What would be the best way on approaching a potential "uncrippling" of this software.. and installing a full blown Andorid on it ?
All suggestions welcome, (I don't wanna hear any "buy a HTC instead" replys) 'cause they don't make clamshell androids)
Thanks ,
The Keitai'ist
bump for you! Would like to know this as well.
Rooting software available.
Found a WHOLE bunch of software for the Sharp 72xx on a Chinese BBS, PM me for files... & guides
Anybody has more info on functioning of the SH7218U outside China, namely in EU? Been thinking about this phone as my second (private phone), I'll be able to order one from China in August... Is it worth the hassle and the risk?
Thanx
Alright everyone, I'm in love with this phone, anyone feel the same? Well, you're about too.
Here's a link to install and enable Gapps, use a translator if ya want.
http://modiako.blogspot.com/2011/05/sharp-sh7218u-android.html
Also, anyone familiar with the SH-01B? And it's really nice-looking big clock for the external display? I have the files for making yours look like that as well. Just PM me if ya want. Or just get it from this link.
http://www.msharp.cn/forum/t356876/page1/
Oh yeh, z4root roots this device fine btw.
Now, I don't really know how to read Chinese well so Ive gotten all this info from lurking Chinese forums searching for keywords or just finding these because of others. So, if anyone can help me out with translating this link I'm about to give, ALOT of helpful things will result since it's basically a thread on SH7218U optimization.
http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=525&t=2175932&last=30798785
Also, if you check out this vid, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmTf300BhpI ,this guys SH7218U is modded so the notification and virtual android buttons have a different look to them. I asked the guy and this is what he said, "It is similar to how to modify the status bar is other android phone (which you can search from google or XDA forum), but the tricky part is instead of modify the frame-res.apk. you do the modification on dianxinos-res.apk". Now that seems simple enough but I can't find any guide on HOW to do this, and him not replying any further didn't help me out.. SO yeh, if anyone can read/write Chinese lets look up on how to mess with the SH7218Us framework.apk and dianxinos-res.apk, as for now Ide rather not mess with those important files without a clear English guide.
So let's try and get something going here possibly maybe perhaps?

[Q] Please help me root my Lenovo IdeaPadA1?

I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad tablet. I've rooted two phones easily, no problems. This thing is being testy! I literally spent all night trying to use "SuperOneClick", which freezes every time. Apparently this is a large problem, with people posting on the shortfuse website about it, but no word at all from that developer (too bad...sounded promising). Then, I utilized the thread search, but I only received, oh I don't know, ~70 pages for the same thread, which provided no help whatsoever. But all I want to do is root it so that I can put an app on it to recieve a bluetooth internet tether. No custom Rom's or nothing. I'm here because not only is this place the standard for Android apparently, but the shortfuse page also links back here as well. If this is in the wrong spot to ask, please move accordingly, but there is no spot in the tablets for the IdeaPad. Thanks in advance for your help!
Wow. I thought something special about this place! But the "noob" fixed it himself. Thanks for the load of a lack of help.

If you noticed in my post, I said I did try "super"oneclick (and yes with all appropriate drivers) for a whole night. As I mentioned, I figured it out myself. But at least you did try, can't say that about anyone else...for that you receive my thanks.
Lenovo thinkpad a-1
I have the same problem tried oneclick and always stops at # 7 waiting on device.
how did you finally manage to get root? any help would be appreciated.. I have also rooted several HTC android phones but this thinkpad is kicking my butt.

Android 5.0 on Google Nexus 5 - Newbie questions / support

Hello everyone,
At first, as a new member, let me congratulate you for this amazing forum and the community that is built around it. A lot of useful and interesting stuff can be found here, and I know that it takes a lot of hard work to boost and maintain a forum to this high-quality level, create a community and share knowledge, so thank you for that and keep up the good work.
To get to the point, I recently became the owner of a Google Nexus 5 and 3 days ago I upgraded the preinstalled Android 4.4 to Android 5.0. Before that, I used a Nokia N900 phone with Maemo 5 and ArchLinux (desktop Linux Distribution), and this Nexus became my introduction to the Android operating system for the first time.
So as a newbie to Android, I want to ask toy a few questions on how to make some things done.
While I had my Android rooted before, after the upgrade it probably needs rooting again, so I'd be grateful if someone points out a link to a tutorial that describes this process. I also need to install an anti-theft application, and from what I've seen, Cerberus just does what I want, but I need to install it in a way that even if someone restored the phone to its default settings or even format it, the application woud stay in place. From what I've read, it is possible, right? I don't know how, maybe it has something to do with the ROM, which brings me to my next question. Custom ROMs, what are they? How do they get installed and which one do you suggest for Nexus 5?
As for now, those are my questions. I know that I could use Google to find out more about those stuff, but I really want to learn how they work, not just how to accomplish them, and all my searches in Google result in different ways to achieve the same thing, a fact that confuses me instead of teaching me stuff. That's why I ask here.
So, if anyone could point out some links or explain to me how to do the things I want, I'd be very grateful.
Also, besides all those things, any suggestions you might have of any nature, I'd be glad to hear them and they'll be much appreciated!
Than you very much in advance. I appologize to the forum and its moderators if I posted this in a wrong category or broke any rule. I assure you that if I did, it was not intetional.
Best regards,
Elias
Should I post this over to the Google Nexus 5 forums?
[SOLVED]
Ok, after a lot of reading, I finally understood the whole concept of ROMs and Recovery.
For anyone having trouble with his first steps on those issues as well, the following links would be very useful:

How to root Onyx Boox Note?

I have recently bought an Onyx Boox Note. This is an E-Ink device that runs Android 6.0.1. It has a 10.3 inch display, 2 gb of RAM, and 32 gb of internal storage. No sd card slot. There is no custom recovery available for it, to my knowledge. Neither Kingoroot nor Kingroot were able to root it. I have adb access to the Note, however, but not fastboot.
Any suggestions as to what I could try? Let me know if you need more info about the device.
Thanks for your help.
Update: I have achieved root. I used King Root which finally worked after a couple of attempts. I then used the SuperSuMe Pro app to switch myself over to SuperSU. All is well now.

That depends on how you plan to use it. (The price is not out of line if you compare it with an iPad or some similarly sized Android tablet.)
The best answer I can give you is to offer you a checklist of various features. If you can say "yes" to most, if not all, of them, then the Note might be worth the cost for you.
1) Your eyes like E-Ink much more than LED.
2) You want a device light enough for lengthy ebook reading sessions, yet large enough to comfortably read pdfs.
3) You want the ability to install apps of your choice (Instapaper, Moon Reader, Outlook, Office, whatever...)
4) A frontlight is not essential.
5) A sd card slot is not essential.
6) Bluetooth capability is important.
7) Note-taking with a stylus is important to you.
8) Audio capability is useful to you.
9) You find the older crop of E-Ink devices too slow.
There may be other features you may value, but this will do as a general checklist. Then you can see for yourself if the Note is worth the money or not.
Please we need root!!!! I was not able to get root with my firmware!!!!
Hi, Where did you buy this device? I like it and my eyes are tied of LCD screens.
More one question: Could you please show some pictures with taking notes on Onenote?
Thanks

I bought my device from here.
I don't have OneNote installed on my device. However, if you check out the Onyx threads on Mobileread, you'll find reports that there is a significant lag when someone takes notes with OneNote, or any third party app. The stock Note app works much better - but that doesn't help you, unfortunately.
I don't use the note-taking functions very much, other that annotations and the like on pdfs.

The Android applications for taking notes are not ready for this device yet (if they use the Note's SDK, that will be much different history), they have a lot of lag, but instead you can use the built in note application and the is like writing in paper.
I use it to read book and the web.
Need help
Guys, thanks a lot for answers. Actually I need an e-ink device on Android with a big screen and capable to run the app JW Library. But because this devise is new on the market, I am afraid to spent the money (and it is not a cheap one) and discover that it can not run this app smoothly. I have a Kindle Paper White and I love it, but its screen is too small and it is not an Android.
May I ask you guys a favor?
Could someone of you guys to install this app from Google Store and to download just some magazines and books and to try to turn pages, to click on references and to see how it works (the app does not require registration). I think with 2 Gb of RAM and 4 core proc. it should work smoothly as much as the e-ink screen allows, but I am afraid to buy it and discover that this app is too heavy for the Note and its software.
Please, I need a help with this.
Thank you in advance for the help!
P.S.: It would be great if someone could attache a picture of the Note with this app working/opened if it is not too much to ask for.
I might be able to try it tomorrow. One of the main reasons why I bought the Note was its ability to run the Logos Bible Software app - and the Note runs it perfectly. I'll see what I can do about pics. I can attach screenshots as well.
ERASED.
citytrader said:
I did the test, is not like turning pages because the application has the scroll vertical and the experience was smooth (smooth as an eink allows), the experience was like Galaxy TAB S with a display a bit slower than the Galaxy.
This device for reading is really amazing, I believe till now is the best in the market.
The screenshots are in the attachment.

@IurMal: How is it going with the JW Library on an Onyx Boox Note? Does this device have to be rooted? I am looking for a decent e-ink device which can run the JW Library flawlessly.

Hello Windsor1959, I have a ONYX BOOX Note too, but the >Pro< Version
I tried the apk and Windows-Software from the link you provided (Thank You for sharing!! :laugh, but I could not do it:
KingRoot.apk and Windows Application with USB + ADB, everytime it replies "no root possible", even after factory reset and multiple on/off tries;
Because I don't have an open boot-loader I cant do much else, or can I ??
6.0.1 Android Marshmallow should have enough holes in it, no?

After one of the firmware updates, I was unable to get root again. So Onyx must have changed something, which made it harder to root the device. To be honest, I think I lucked out in getting root in the first place!
Yes, you'd think that Marshmallow would have plenty of holes in it! But I haven't seen anyone else get root on a Note, either, since then.
If anyone else reading this has, please tell us how you did it!

Just to confirm what @Windsor1959 encountered that previously I was able to obtain root through Kingroot. Recently I updated the firmware for my Onyx Boox Note and I tried to root again with Kingroot but was not successful. I encounter this post while I am searching for method to root it again (very unlikely at this point).
If anyone is still interested.
