ABOUT:
BlackScreen is my custom kernel made for custom aosp/caf roms
This started as just being the kernel in my aicp builds, but as more and more users of other roms started using it I realized I should make a separate thread
====================================================================================================
BlackScreen is meant to give you great battery life and performance (depending on how you tune it), essentially I tried to optimize it for everyday usage (gaming, media consumption. browsing the web, all that stuff), I'm not aiming to have the highest Antutu score (although it is very high, it's just not my focus), you see benchmarks don't really reflect actual everyday usage.
The main thing that I do is port good features and optimizations from the various OnePlus 3/3t kernels (they have many great kernel devs and a lot of their work can benefit us too), I also optimize the kernel settings and stuff like that
BlackScreen is based off of the android linux stable kernel by @nathanchance (He takes caf and upstreams it to the latest from linux stable), with the bringup from @codeworkx, I do my best to keep it up to date with lineage, and Android Linux stable

Need more info than that

6.0 kernel can boot on nitrogenos, but a few minutes later, the screen can't be turn on. But the 5.4 is OK on this rom

Nitrogenos, same problem here. 5.4 ok

Same problem here! After the splash screen, it shuts down. Sometimes it boots but after a while it freezes and shuts down. Nitrogen pie.

It works for me, normal version 6.0

I did it like this:
mount vendor,flash blackscreen 6.0

BlackScreen 6.1:
Fixed the random reboots and unlocking issues, sorry about that, should be just as stable as lineage now, didn't notice the issues when I was testing 6.0 because I only booted it once, tested this release much more though
Edit: Download link removed, use 6.1.1

Awesome Thanks!

It seems I need to reset to an earlier caf tag, Codeworkx is on a much older caf tag and at first I thought it was because he was just too busy to update it, but now I think it's because he realized that the new tags are really buggy, I'll do a new build tonight probably, along with an aicp pie release #BlameCaf

YEEEEES!
I've a problem with Omnirom. It doesn't boot, it was stuck at OnePlus logo.
Now, flashing this kernel, it works perfectly!! U made my day!

It's finally fixed my problem, @KenjiHannya !
Thanks u @nikhil18 !!!
While I did not succeed in booting the Omni rom, I have CM13 installed at the moment.
Perhaps I will try Omni in combination with this kernel.
But for sure, do I install in this order?
1 - TWRP recovery (does it work with 2.8.7?)
2 - this Lightning kernel
3 - Omnirom
4 - Gapps
Am I right, or do I have to flash in another order?
1 - Omnirom

Q&A
Would I recommend you flashing this kernel?
No. This is considered to be a testing phase, it can be unstable and should not be used if you seek guaranteed stability.
Will this work on my d6XX?
Yes. It doesn't matter what phone you have, they all use the same board. (exception: the d625 uses a different board, thus flashing this is dangerous and should not be performed.)
Will this kernel work with my rom?
As the name suggests, this kernel is for Marshmallow based roms works with all cm13 based roms.
When will you update?
I have a personal life, and I'm also a student. I will update when I have time for it, as this is my hobby.
Very good job. I download it and useing it with RR all the night with no problems!!! good to see in next build overclock and downclock for better battery and performance.
I installed the kernel yesterday, I'm on RR 5.7.1.
It looks stable overall, but I got a self reboot: I opened the camera and it showed nothing, just black. Then I closed it and the phone rebooted.
Apart from this, I didn't found any other malfuncioning.
But some of the CPU governors (SavagedZen, interactiveX, SmartassH3) don't scale the frequency, it stays stuck at 1190MHz, even changing hotplug.
Anyway, I'm satisfied of this kernel, finally my battery lasts more. Keep working! :good:
Does hyper and scary work how it is supposed to be in power suspend mode?

Hyper and Scary should work yes, but again, I've probably not configured them good, so I'd stay on the "normal" governors (interactive, ondemand etc.)
You can find power suspend mode in misc controls in kernel adiutor. The recommended setting is Hybrid.

Hyper must set max freq to %walue% when display off
And idk how to check DAT shhh
Quick note about governors: I'm currently working on making the (new) governors work correctly, since I have not configured them correctly. That is why you'll see that they either just stick at top frequencies or just jumping around and what not. Next release should have them fixed.
New build V1.1.141
Download link is HERE.
Code:
Fixed frequencies
Changed zzmoove & changed+removed some profiles
Add bioshock governor
Add dancedance governor
Add lionheart governor
Add alucard governor
Add nightmare governor
Removed interactiveX governor
Removed not-enabled governors
And as always, feedback is helpful!
I was googling about the governors and schedulers but so many options I don't know what to choose. What are you using mobiusm?

I though already no one is going to ask
I'm using HYPER governor (imho it scales very nicely), intelliplug hotplug, zen for internal storage and bfq for external.
That being said, this is what fits MY usage of the phone. I usually want to save as much battery as I can when I'm not doing anything, and use the cpu according to the usage. This setups works for me very good. Example: today I woke up at about 10:00, and when I got home at about 17:00 I had 85%. I didn't do too much, but I was checking messages, made a few phone calls and I had my internet on the whole time.
Good luck with your tuning!
Thanks. I'm gona try it. I'm using adoptable storage on latest Resurrection Remix ROM and just want the best performance when using the phone and the best battery life when it is in standby mode.
I tried it for a couple of days and it started very well, I experimented with Alucard and HYPER governors and they were good! but today the phone started to get too laggy. I tried to change the governors to see if I had an improvement even wiping cache/Darvin but in the end It didn't get any better and I flashed the stock kernel =(
Anyone else having this lag?
By the way thanks for the work mobius!

This is also very welcomed: since most of the schedulers have changeable settings, please suggest your tuned settings that work best for the phone (If they work good for multiple people I will set them as default )
This message is of course targeted towards everyone...
So a lot is going on right now: I'm back studying, having tons of research projects I need to submit which leaves me no much time to work on the kernel, because it's not as straight forward as putting out a rom build. When I'll update, you're the first to know..
I got bootloop on the latest CM13 nightly build D618
hey mobius, can you add a Touch Boost disable/enable function to your kernel? I think that's very usefull if we can disable touch boost to save more battery.

No, dear mate, according to the OP: is only compatible with Nougat.
Pie ROMs have a better kernel implemented and it is Not neccesary to install another. Also, if you want to report a bug (for example in AOSPExt Pie ROM) you will be rejected because you are using other Kernel than the default (better) of the ROM
By the way jaja Do you really want to use a kernel that says: "Feak"???

Pie ROMs have a better kernel implemented and it is Not neccesary to install another. Also, if you want to report a bug (for example in AOSPExt Pie ROM) you will be rejected because you are using other Kernel than the default (better) of the ROM
By the way jaja Do you really want to use a kernel that says: "Feak"???

Still can't find though about nougat but yeah you are right as it wasn't been developed for oreo yet, so definitely not for pie.
I agree pie roms comes with better kernel, but it's just they don't provide hotplugs and some more features like dtw etc. that's why I was looking for a custom kernel.

About dt2w & s2w
Hi all! Here i'll talk about Wake Gestures (DT2W & S2W)
removed until they are stable
In the future
Be free to request features for the kernel, i'll try to add everything possible.
My "plan" for this project it's first of all to bring a STABLE kernel. And yes, i'll make a Oreo compatible version (maybe, tomorrow )

Thanks for this release bro Is there any possibility to implement the latest Linux Kernel Version?? Or at least Version 4?? Thanks !
you could add some hotplug. From what I understand are different ways of managing starts and stops of nuclei. But not many intelligent hotplug etc. Very Thanks

Hi, @srfarias, awesome job! Thanks.
Could you change /sys/class/power_supply/battery/voltage_max permissions from 444 to 644?
This must be done at kernel level. Using chmod doesn't work.
I'm unsure as to were to look at on the source code.
...drivers/power/ perhaps?
Unfortunately, I cannot try that myself due to extremely limited data plans.
Limiting max charging voltage extends battery lifespan.
why on earth is everyone building nougat kernels? is this the twilight zone or something? can't we just get one updated oreo kernel, please???

Because that's what the developer wanted to do.
I am quite happy on Nougat as Oreo brings nothing new to the table. Maybe Pie will leave a better taste.
To each his own; don't be critical of others efforts if they do not satisfy your interests. Well...unless the dev is on your payroll.

Exactly, devs are working hard on pie developments. We've a bootable ROM with much of the things working! Keep calm and wait for Pie guys!
Please Add hotplug options, temperature controls of the somefeak kernel, and the adreno idler doesn't appear on kernel adiutor

About Oreo
I don't release a Oreo kernel version.. Oreo/Pie it's on a development status.
Last week i make my own Pie and Oreo LOS to build and working on kernel for these versions but i'll don't release it until squid or any dev release a daily use OREO/PIE rom
@srfarias, thanks for the update. Do you know a way to change /sys/class/power_supply/battery/voltage_max permissions to 644 permanently (on a kernel level)?
Running <chmod> changes the mode, but I still have no write permission over that file.

Keep up the great work
Really love the work on Nougat since it's still the most stable Android version for harpia. It just sucks that the 2 best Nougat ROMs (RR and AOSP Extended) are using outdated camera drivers so they don't fully work with this kernel. Is there any workaround? I would really love to keep using RR while using this kernel if at all possible

Thank you for keeping this device relevant, I've flashes both this and your Arrow ROM. Been on RR for a couple of years now and am curious if this can be able to run smooth. I use my One X as a daily driver.

I don't recommend my ArrowOS for daily use as for now. Kernel is fine and enough stable to use imo.
hey man, thanks for supporting this device! I was wondering if it is possible to mod the OTG at kernel level for enabling charging with Y connectors (this was done for the Oneplus One: https://github.com/sollapse/opo_dwc3_otg/), since I want to use my old One Plus X with my 3D Printer + Octoprint. It would be much appreciated

Managed to compile this kernel with the above mentioned mod for OTG. Octoprint on Lineage 18.1 and Charging work now!
This is probably EOL project, my oneplus x definitely don't want to work with me. Sorry for that and have a great day.
However, this is not the end of this project Probably will try to work on it a little bit more.
New release btw
Wouldn't it be better (safer because without the risk of MoBo entering bootloop) to leave the user the possibility of overclocking the CPU and GPU, and set nominal clocks by default?

yes, next release will focus on safe default values but now i'm trying to know why my oneplus x can run only one app at a time.
