rooted my lg fortune2 and then made rooky mistake bricking my device - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently rooted my lg fortune 2 by installing the lg aristo 2 twrp file and magisk. This was my first rooted device so I was surprised at my success but being new at this it didn't take me long to attempt to use a module from magisk that encrypted my device. I hadn't flashed a no verify opt zip because i didn't know i needed to lol. So me being a novice i ended up wiping-deleting my os in twrp while trying to fix it. Since i bricked my device iv'e tried to install factory lg firmware using lg bridge,lg mobile support tool and the lg flash tool for flashing kdz files but they always fail at 5% installation with a contact your local admin screen when it fails. Is it possible to flash stock firmware for cricket devices or could i somehow turn a kdz file into a zip file i could install via twrp. I also haven't had any luck finding a tot file for my device either.

Fortune 2 help!
Hi,
My lg fortune 2 lm-x210cm10o is being a pain. If you wouldn't mind too much, I would like to know where you got your root method from. It's been two weeks of failed attempts and to be honest I was just about to throw the same thing out the window. I mean that literally. So, to prevent such a catastrophic tragedy, could use a little help.
Thanx if you can or cant,
Matthew

[Q] "Security Error"

I recently purchased a LG Optimus G and started installing programs on it. once it got late I plugged it in to my computer (to charge it) and out of habit, i restarted the phone. It got stuck on the LG logo and kept saying Security Error...thats it...no number or any other explanation. I did a hard reset and nothing happened. I NEED INDEPT INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO RETURN IT TO WORKING CONDITION. I spent all night reading other post and devs or other users gave vague answers like "oh download this..." with no link....or use this with dead links.....PLEASE HELP THIS LG NOOB. .
The security error is from uninstalling bloat without having bootloader unlocked. You will need to restore using a program called lgnpst with stock firmware. Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219953&highlight=jellybean . Links for lgnpst can be found here in teenybin thread ( you may also use teenbin files in place of stock firmware if you want to install custom ROM, it will unlock bootloader and install twrp recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230994 . If you decide to install custom ROM it will need to be on SD card so it will be available in recovery.
Edit... Be certain you have AT&T LG E970 model before attempting this, if you have any other model you will need to use different files.

[Q] Downgrade help

Firstly, I apologize if this has been asked. And I'm sure it has. Before we get into the " do your research" rebuttals, I have been trying to get this done for about 2 weeks now. What i'm trying to do is root my phone and install a custom recovery. This is my first LG phone ( im coming from Samsung). I am on Lollipop. I understand that I have to revert back to 12b. So as I do this, I see that we use the LG flash tool. I am having a terrible time in getting this to work even as I follow the instructions on youtube ( although im starting to wonder if these are out of date). Main Issues tend to be that they call for a .kdz file and all I find for downloading are .tot files. What is the difference here? Another Issue im running into is the fact that I cant even get signed into the toolkit. I keep getting an error message. Unable to login and what not. I'm guessing it has something to do with the .dll file? Anyway. I'm not a pro by any means, but I just feel like I should be having some rom fun by now Can I get anyone willing to help me further please??? Cheers ahead of time!!!!

go to the general verizon forum and look at op #2 in my sticky Reference thread. all the drivers, tools, directions, and links are there.
i prefer to use the TOT method, have never used the kdz, but each uses a different flash tool and instructions.
the instructions in the flashing stock threads linked there are very good.
try following those threads, and forget youtube.
after you pick a direction, and run into issues, post back with which method, and your issues. then it will be much easier to help, rather than me posted a step by step novel that for the most part already exists.

There are two different flash tools. The official LG flash Tool, which requires TOT and DLL files. And the unofficial KDZ tool called "LG flash Tool 2014", which only needs a KDZ file. Use either one to get back to 10b firmware. You can then use Stump root to root it. After that, you can install TWRP Manager from Play Store. And from TWRP Manager, you can put in your phone model and it will download and install TWRP for you. If you want to, you can then follow the Jasmine rom thread to upgrade back to Lollipop using TWRP. I personally prefer to stay in 10b as I found it to be very stable and after I un-install the Verizon bloatware using Titanium backup, it is quite smooth.
Thank you both. I'll give it a try here in a bit. It helped a lot no one there to compare two completely different setups I did not know that thank you both again

Help with an LG Tribute 5 (Boost)

Ok long story short my nephew was using purify to remove bloatware from his Tribute 5, somehow he deleted the wrong files and ended up getting a security error
[authentication fail #9] [modified]. I'm needing to get my hands on the firmware so that I can flash it onto the phone and hopefully fix it. Any help and or advice would be GREATLY appreciated considering that my next step will be to take the phone out to the garage and execute it with an acetylene torch.
You very much in luck, my friend. I happen to have the Stock ROM and the drivers. The set which has worked for me to restore to factory is included in the folder. Give it some time to finish updating before clicking the link, though. (And yes, the ROM is the .dz file...not sure why it's no longer .kdz.) Anyhow, the LGUp program will be needed to flash it back to stock. Tribute Drivers/LG Up Flashing program

Flashed H901 on H960 - need a comrade to help

Hello all,
In the process of rooting the phone and flashing careless i managed to flash a H901 ROM on a H960 phone. After noticing the horrible mistake i tried to get back to H960 using several methods but to no avail. Here's a list of what i tried so far, followed by what i think i can try next.
1. Tried getting back to stock using this tutorial. LGUP detects my phone as H901 and won't let me flash H960 kdz saying "KDZ file is invalid".
2. Tried using a hex editor on the KDZ file to change any H960 to H901 thinking it might trick LGUP into thinking it is flashing the correct thing. Didn't work either.
3. Tried flashing KDZ file with LG Flash Tool but it says it can't connect to server and stops.
4. Tried updating it with LG Bridge but that also failed (can't remeber the exact error message, but it wasn't anything specific, just something ambiguous about not being able and how i can try to reconnect the phone)
Now, the good parts:
- i still have access to download mode
- have TWRP installed and working
What i think would work is to get a flashable H960A .zip file so that LGUP will see it as it is. Another idea i thought about is to ask any of you who is willing to help me out with a TWRP backup from a H960 model.
If you guys have any other ideas, i'm willing to follow your instructions.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my mess.
Same problem here, really hoping to get it fixed too
Hex editing will work. Can you ss on how you edit it?
@devcon69 Sure, here: https://imgur.com/a/m5dMg are 2 examples of versions i modified in hex(from H960 to H901) all instances of H960 i found were replaced.
Hi all, i finally managed to undo the damage by editing the hex data on a different KDZ file. Either the first time i tried was on a wrong file or i did it incorrectly. The file i edited now is THIS one. I will edit the post with the modified file for H901 in case anyone else needs it.
Thank you all for the help and attention offered

Hi.i get Error: Error Code= 0x81300302, MD5 checksum error when i try with u hex editored file. Maybe i have to try to download u file again and try ?
Sorry my foult. Its okay now
Could you enlighten us as to the steps you took that accidentally loaded a H901 firmware onto a H960A device?
Loading H901 firmware onto other V10 devices has been suggested as a potential method for unlocking the bootloader of other devices. This seems risky, but I'd very much like to hear reports of success/failure.
Did your H960A have an unlocked bootloader prior to accidentally installing the H901 firmware?
Hi
Can u make a simple tutorial to how we can change the model in the tot file and what app u use to install the firmware?
i have H961N (Dual SIM) and need to install rooted MM but my model still not rooted, just lollipop, so need to install H960a or any other model has a rooted MM.
Thanks in advance.
What you've typed worries me. There are 3 spots in the file that you modified and changing the third could well cause oddities. I would suggest you try running the command `adb shell getprop ro.lge.factoryversion`.
What is the output of that command? If it is a string that begins "LGH960" then my concern isn't an issue. If it is a string that begins "LGH901" then you've still got a problem.
For folks who wish to get this done by computer, try the "chkdzdev" tool from my LGEtools. This is simply a tool to modify the fields mentioned and should make it possible to accomplish this task without a binary editor.

LG H81220x 6.0, where are the proper files so that I can have root access only?

So I have a LG H812 20x Canadian variant and it's got the 6.0 OS.
I'm sorry but I've spent all day and now all night pouring over the guides and what not and now I have no clue what to do. One thread says my device can be rooted another says it can't. I only just want to root it. I don't want any custom roms or anything on it. I've backed up my phone, wanting to reset and root but now I am too confused as to what files I need. I have a root img file that I DL however it's for 10C it says in the file name. So I don't want to flash it and end up bricking my only phone.
I have rooted a tablet but files were available (device and model specific) and the files were updated and the guide easy to follow. Had no problems with the tablet. But like I mentioned, I only want to have root access to my phone and confused now as to which file to put and where and what. PLEASE HELP
