Dark google feed - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hello!
Is there a way to add a dark theme to the Google feed on the stock launcher ?
I have dark mode enabled on my phone and that white feed just looks out of place.

Cpl launcher has it.

Try this (I found purely by accident on Reddit)
1. Leave the Google app beta program (if enrolled)
2. Goto device settings / Google app and clear data and cache
3. Goto playstore and update to latest Google app (do not re enroll to the beta program)
4. Change your device default language to English (US) and reboot.
5. Set a dark theme / wallpaper on your launcher.
6. Enjoy your new dark feed
NB
Confirmed only working on Oreo 8.1 and above and is working on my Huawei Honor 7s with Oreo 8.1 and EMUI 8.0

I tried but no luck. Maybe the method doesn't work on Android pie.

It ONLY works on Android 8.1 and 9.0 pie, no other versions.
I can confirm it works on pie, I have a Motorola E5 Play (Pettyl) running an android 9.0 treble GSI, works fine.

Actually that is not the case, with EMUI 8 the feed changes to dark if you have a wallpaper that is dark overall, it does it by itself (Google feed)

As I said in my previous comment, I've had a dark feed in EMUI 8 for weeks on my honor 7S, but I didn't get it until I left the google beta and changed my default language From English UK to English US.

When my Mate 10 Pro was on EMUI 8 ,the feed never changed to the dark theme. The wallpaper was mainly dark and I'm always keeping dark mode on.

If you're using the EMUI launcher the news feed isn't Google, it is the Huawei version (HiCard) right now I'm using the pixel launcher (it uses Google feed) and the feed automatically changes depending on your wallpaper, no setting change needed. I'll have to switch back to EMUI and check.

I have EMUI 8 on an honor 7s and the Huawei launcher has the google feed, and always has. I don't have "hicard" anywhere on my device.
Edit
The Huawei honour range is very different to the Huawei range proper, what I have here and what you guys may have doesn't mean everyone and every device has exactly the same thing, it's all down to device and firmware - I thought I better point that out so people don't get upset or confused
I did explain there was no guarantee making those changes would work.
Several EMUI 9 users are saying on the Reddit post I copied this from that it doesn't work, where as EMUI 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2 users claim this works fine (like it does for me)

Hiding Apps via EMUI

Coming from a Nexus 6p with Nova Launcher, I've found it frustrating to use EMUI, especially the inability to hide apps - mainly the bloatware that are installed.
Is therea any way to have a folder for "junk"?
I've searched and found these:

Download emui tweaker on playstore and you will be able to hide app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teammt.gmanrainy.emuitweaker
Once option activated with emui tweaker you have to pinch screen with you finger to access to hide menu app
Thanks sonydesouza I'll try it out

I thought a "zoom out" was the inverse method to pinch in,which brings up your settings to the EMUI page (Wallpaper, Widgets, transitions, settings etc)?
When I do the opposite zoome out, nothing happens - am I making a school boy error here?

Yes it's the inverse at pinch (sorry for my bad English)
Did you reboot the phone?
Because it works for sure with this app.
It was a feature of precedent emui but it still works on emui 8.
It's just desactivated by default on emui 8 and this app activate it again
You have to do the exact opposite with your finger that which brings settings of emui page

Well i have had that screenshot, restarted my phone as suggested but then I can't make it work!
So I have the screen like this, hit reboot, then can't access the hidden menu

I also have a Mate 10. This works for me, but only in "Standard" not "Drawer" style homescreen. I have not found a way to hide apps in the drawer using stock launcher.
Same here with Honor 9 and emiui 8, zoom out-->home settings, zoom in--->nothing :/
I can confirm that the hidden apps folder works on EMUI 8.1 on P20 Pro but only in Standard homescreen mode, but not in Drawer mode.

Anyone working on a Non-EMUI Rom?

I'm curious if anyone is working on a ROM without EMUI or that removes the left pane from EMUI that uses huawei id and replaces it with google now.

If you don't want to rebrand, try rootless pixel launcher. You won't be able to use a lot of the stock widgets but everything else should be ok.

I use Nova launcher and Google now nova companion to do just what your looking for. Don't need root, same deal as the modded pixel launcher, Huawei widgets will crash.

gsmarena's battery test shows amazing battery life on the p30 pro and they attributed it to the better stand by drain compared to the mate 20 pro, if that is due to optimizations in emui 9.1 then i definetly want it as soon as possible , if not then i dont think it matters much , i cant see any real improvements from what i have seen in p30 pro videos

Nope you're wrong. Emui 9.1 has much smoother gestures animation, espicially the home gesture. Emui 9.1 enabels 3d party apps to show its notifications on aod. New icon pack and it's all the same form now. Optimizatiin is also a big thing on Emui 9.1 for sure.

And it has the new night mode with auto 6sec not 4 to get brighter and much details photos
Also , EMUI 9.1 comes with a "Newer file system" which improves the Read/Write times and thereby improving the overall fluidity system-wide. Hopefully it'll be released soon for the Mate 20 Pro.
cant chance file systems without wiping
I saw that Nova 3i already got 9.0.1

I've seen that as well on an article, hope they will announce it on our mate 20 Pro, gesture are not that great on EMUI 9.0. I tried fluid gesture (and remove nav bar with ADB) but it is a bit buggy especially when you unlock the phone it glitch with nav bar that appears and disappear...
Wait and see really looking forward to get the update.

I hope it will be possible. Apple did it without needing a wipe a couple of years ago on iOS. So maybe Huawei can do it too. Fingers crossed.
So one question the camera improvements in the p30 pro are they software related or hardware? I know that we won't get 50 times zoom haha but what about the rest?
I can't wait till I get the EMUI 9.1 update on my Mate 20 Pro as it will have AOD display for third party applications

Probably the stock launcher. The first Pixel introduced swipe up to enter the app drawer instead of a dedicated app button that takes up the space of an app icon and many other Android launchers quickly incorporated that feature.

Android Q Beta For Mi 9

Hey guys as you know google I/O is finished and android q is intruduced
And a good news is mi 9 is in beta device list
If you have unlocked bootloader you can try it now
But these issues is present in this version
1. Alarm does not ring when the device is switched off.
2. Device restarts after user selects wireless projection device in the “Wireless display”.
3. “Settings” app stops running after user deactivates shortcut to mute device.
4. “Settings” app stops running when “Gesture” is selected in “Settings”
5. “File” app stops running after refresh.
6. Unable to switch screen color in “Settings”
7. Unable to ‘Add a fingerprint’
https://www.mi.com/global/androidqbeta/
Thanks. Not really worth it atm, but i'll try it as soon as it's stable enough.
It seems that google must add under display fingerprint support natively in android
All devices that have this type of fingerprint cant use it on this version

Why would you need an unlocked bootloader? This is from Xiaomi. Am I missing something?
Does it have pure Android UI like pixel or it's the ugly miui?
It's pure Android, but pretty unoptimized. Feels choppy, has aliasing in the "round corners" of the display and only supports Chinese and English language.

That's great. Maybe could be a good base once it gets optimized a bit more.
its very buggy and cant use as a daily driver
gesture navigation is exactly what xiaomi is doing since android 8
i hope that dark mode brings really black background not a gray one but it seems that google is trying pure black on some of the os but not completed
and my summery is android q is just a polish on android pie and nothing big is happening
i like privacy upgrades
oh and one thing more
at startup there are English and Chinese but after that in setting all languages are present
Hate this miui 10 for hiding notification icons on status bar, hope they showing in Q, cheers
If it's anything like the Mix 2S Android P beta, this will be the only build for it.

That is sad, but it makes sense that Xiaomi doesn't want to provide an official stock rom since it means that users might not be using MIUI, which their business model is based around.

Finally custom aod designs are available

So I'm on Chinese firmware 11.0.8 (fully stock) and got an update for the aod function, noticed it had mentioned something about themes and low and behold they now have additional themes you can download, this was something I missed from my s8+ that I still use. Wonder if any other region firmware has this now, I know you can do this though root methods and what not
I am on 11.0.8 CN ROM and dont see this option in themes. Themes had an update but i am not seeing the option you have mentioned above. Anything i need to look for?
