[TWRP Mod] T280 5.1.1 [ARK3][ODEX] X-mas Edition - Samsung Experiance - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series ROMs, Kernels, Recover

Welcome to the Tab A6 (T280) Xmas Samsung Experience Edition.
Sorry no special Xmas theme, to make it festive this time. Just did not have enough storage space in the system, once I got done. HA!
It is stuffed to the gills, with both Samsung and Google apps. This factory firmware has been fixed with full set of options given on phones and higher end tablets.
Links to download will be added in my 2nd post to this thread, on the 15th of this month. Tic toc, tic toc... will add screen shots soon, to the bottom of this page.

○ All apps but Maps are updated as of build date. Newer Maps is too bloaty, this one works well with both older Drive Link and Newest Android Auto.
If you liked my previous releases, then this one should be one you'll want to upgrade to. You can flash dirty or clean. Just be sure to wipe your caches.
Note, when flashing with apps installed to SD and data is intact... let the tablet sit without user activity for 10 minutes after lock screen is shown, after initial flash. Once you have unlocked the tablet, be aware the tablet may reboot. It will if oat/odex is required to multi dex . It may take 5 minutes to show the lock screen, so be patient.
If you have a Themes Store on your existing launcher from my past builds, then you may want to do a ti backup of the Touchwiz launcher data, and have it for restoring after flashing. You can also create a shortcut on the home screen, which may show it as available when flashed dirty, while the launcher will not show it after flashing.
Yes, I kept the Themes option still active in this build, but... the stock tablet settings UI does not allow it to function for installing any themes. If one wants to use themes, they would need to flash dirty over any one of my past builds, in order to capture a short cut.
This build has some corrected theme support, which fixes most theme issues. But beware, not all themes are friendly, and may mess up your over all look on the system.

Merry xmas or happy xmas!
MERRY XMAS! or HAPPLY XMAS! in the UK
Did not have time to format this thread, spent too much time sorting out this ROM TWRP backup. Too many updates between when I started and now, some of which effected how things functioned for me. I recommend keeping Magisk 19, though 20.1 seems stable enough for most peeps.
This ROM is made to be the most compatible and efficient over stock and other modded ROMs I have come across in the years of owning android devices. Many say my ROMs are bloated, with too much cross compatibility. Well, actually they are not. Compare your currently running rom with osmonitor, and watch how services stack up live after reboot or cold start up. Take note of system and osmonitor services. I try my best to keep both osmoniter services on top of the stack as much as possible. The only way to do so, is to have a balance of Samsung system apps and Google apps, and the addition of services that some ROMs have missing. Stripping android of some tied in services may be a band aid to get more ram, or remove active services running in background... but if the system has hooks to the missing app or service, it will constantly try and pole the missing service and will slow some processes. Osmonitor will show how smooth your system truly is. Bloated or not... I have removed for the most part Google Music, Video, and Games. They are updated as much as play services, so what is the point in placing them into ROM, when an update will add them into user space. Basically I bake my ROMs to be left alone untouched either uodates, and leave user apps that are updated out of the rom, thus the lack of a built in browser, and an older version of maps. You don't need to update maps, as it has no compatibility issues over the mix of the newest Google apps and mix of older unsupported Samsung apps.
Yes, most all apps on this ROM are updated up to the latest version, as of 14/12/19.
NOTE... NO BUILT IN BROWSER. WHY WASTE ROM SPACE ON A BROWSER THAT MAY NOT BE USED OR WILL BE UPDATED SOON BY THE USER. MAPS IS OVER A YEAR OLD, AND HAS NO EFFECT ON USE, UNLESS YOU WANT TO USE MORE OF THE UPDATED FEATURES WITH THE NEWER MAPS APP. TO KEEP GOOGLE FROM UPDATING SYSTEM FILES, YOU CAN PLACE OVER 700MB OF MUSIC OR YOUR FAV VIDEO TO KEEP GOOGLE INSTALLER CACHE LIMITED, AND WILL REQUEST APP REMOVAL WHEN INSTALLING APPS FROM PLAY STORE. I USE MIRROR SITES TO UPDATE BY SIDE LOADING. ALSO FREEZE PLAY SERVICES FOR INSTANT APPS IF NOT USING INSTANT APPS. IT'S INSTALLED AS A SYSTEM APP, SO IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOAD INTO USER ROM SPACE BY GOOGLE AND WASTE SPACE. IF LEFT UNFROZEN GOOGLE WILL AUTO UPDATE.
Below is some more images of what to expect... having app permissions, all apps are monitored and blocked from starting, unless they are hooked into the system. Usually all side loaded and user play store added apps are blocked to run at start up, unless the app has an option for the user to enable or disable auto start up. If an app has auto startup, like chrome for example... it will not auto start, since it was side loaded or installed as a user app. Thus no browser is baked into the rom. The active apps shown in a few images are from a minute after reboot. The optional Kid's Mode app is manually added, and will run for a short birthday check and close, if installed. I recommend freezing smart card services if not using it. Also any of the few apps that are shown as running, that are not of use can be frozen, and used later on when needed, without need to install at a later time.
NOTE... WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. MY DEFAULT IS SET WITH THE SYSTEM MODEL AS A J5, INSTALL TO SDCARD DISABLED, HOSTS FILE ENABLED, AND STOCK SETTINGS UI (WITH ENHANCEMENTS). THIS IS A PROPER SETUP FOR MOST ALL NEEDS. SO CHANGING THEM WILL EFFECT HOW THE SYSTEM WILL FUNCTION IF UNAWARE OF THE LIMITATIONS. ALWAYS INSTALL AN APP WITHOUT ENABLING INSTALL TO SDCARD. ENABLE INSTALL TO SDCARD BEFORE GOING INTO APP MANAGER TO SET THE APPS INSTALL LOCATION. ONCE MOVED TO SDCARD, DISABLE INSTALL TO SDCARD. BY FOLLOWING MY METHOD, MOST ALL APPS WILL PROPERLY FUNCTION WHEN MOVED TO SDCARD. USING PHONE SETTINGS UI WILL HAVE SOME BUGS. ALL OF WHICH ARE MINOR, AS THE HOOKS TO SOUND AND MOTION ARE FOR PHONES, NOT TABLETS. MOST OF THE ADDED FEATURES ARE ON THE DEFAULT PAGE. KID'S MODE AND GALAXY STORE WILL NEED TO HAVE THE DEVICE BOOT WITH STOCK BUILD.PROP. THOUGH MOST OF THE APPS IN GALAXY STORE WILL PROPERLY UPDATE WITH THE J5 MODDED BUILD PROP. JUST A SAFETY PRECAUTION WITH UPDATING KID'S MODE FUNCTIONALITY AND UPDATING APPS. SOME ARE NOT CROSS COMPATIBLE BETWEEN TABLET AND J5 PHONE. THE MODEL OF J5 I USE DOES, AS OF THIS TIME, KEEP COMPATIBILITY VERY HIGH, SO JUST BE AWARE OF LIMITATIONS. I HAD TO REMOVE UNIVERSAL SWITCH AND DIGITAL CLOCK WIDGET, TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE APPS PACKAGED IN THIS ROM.
WHAT YOU GET IS...
UPDATED & FASTER WIFI DRIVERS

ADDED MISSING BT PROFILES
TI BACKUP & SOLID EXPLORER SUPPORT APKS, FOR SIMPLE ENABLING OF PRO VERSIONS

A wee it of info...
Had a wee bit of time to add this...
Since I found issues with stock omx for the latest build, I took time to sort out most of the formatting errors within the omx xml. They had a monkey write up the config. Yikes!
Also, I unrestricted a lot of floating features, as to allow more options or stylized formatting.
If anyone finds issues with connecting to download sites or apps tied heavily into marketing, disable my hosts file in smanager menu.
Phone video player will need some guess and search work for buttons and functions. Nature of the beast, since frame work is different for button icons.
Video player has editor link that cannot detect the new Galaxy store. To use the full version of VE, you must find someone with a J5 that has the downloaded VE, which is about 100MB in size. It shound link with the stock video player, when editor is selected. Since no editor was installed into the rom, it will ask to download. All the editors, I found are for S5 and S6 models, which do not display and FC when backed out of initial page.
This ROM is a lot smoother in long term usage, without having to reboot as much. Most of three inhancements are for power users, which will find having this cheap tablet worth something a lot more that it was before.
Sapa and ANT+ have not been tested, but the system does show them enabled and with out errors when initialized.
USB LAN should also enable when plugged in, but have no clue if kernel allows function.
After rebooting or cold booting, depending on how many or total app size is installed to SD, it may take 10 to 15 minutes to fully loaded and become stable. Some of which may cause lag if running apps promptly from boot.
Once you use the firmware through the day, you will find it smoother than ever before, as it settles in. The main reason is app permissions. Many stand alone TV apps are designed to run from start up, and stay memory resident. Having them being blocked from loading at boot, really makes a difference. This samsung option for phones works better than any other mod available for blocking pemissions on apps. Though it's very limited on how much you can adjust.
As with my past builds on the removal of Samsung's manager, I tried to keep it, but it's too annoying and a memory hog, and totally unnecessary.
All the apps can be left as is, as they are mostly updated. Maps on the other hand is fine for most. YouTube-Vanced, is slightly old, because of the updates are always behind Google.
If language is not included in the language pack, rely in the installed Google TTS. Samsung's Svoice falls back on Google TTS. There are plenty of language options there to support the lack of there of. Since there is limited space on the rom to add language files directly... you may have to remove the US language files, and selectively add the language you want, in its place. I doubt you can have more than one language installed for Samsung Svoice and handwriting.
I tested both Galaxy Store and Themes with the J5 modded build.prop without issues. Even kids mode may run properly. Just there are times when it will ask to update, when it's for the wrong version.
Installing kids mode will install kids store, and may opt to do so after kido mode is downloaded and has been installed.
Wearables may give some funky notice of not having at least 1.5GB of free storage space. It's messed up. I have had 2GB free space, and yet the notice still pops up. I take it as all devices get the message, or the app can't properly detect our free ram space

Fixed a major minor boo boo
Uploaded a fixed replacement Xmas ROM. My original had a last minute small change, which included files that were not intended to be used. I removed them and corrented with adding the correct fIles that were intended as part of the build.
So, if anyone has downloaded the Xmas ROM within the last 24 hrs of posting, please delete your copy and re-download from the corrected link in the second page of this thread.
I ham happy to report, this final version is truly the best, and has been tested with both clean install and various dirty installs. Just the last minute addition caused some issues unforseen, and was from selecting the wrong folder of testing files.

Audio / video enhancements & fixes
Okay, I found that I missed the addition of these two files in my recently fix and posted build, after realizing that the final update files were not in one folder, which ended up hosing my initial X-mas build.
These will allow higher data rates on media, both recording and pass through bt and docking.
Samsung disabled usb data channel, by not allocating in/out features for docking and audio input from bt.
Also these original files had formatting and settings errors, which needed corrected.
Expect editors to be slower than before, as the limits have been raised to 1280x720 for video. Also audio recordings may be of higher quality and bit rate. Bt should have better performance as well.
I also added some extra bitrate, and channel options for audio.
The files are to be placed in the system/etc folder, with 644 permissions set.

Gonna test this tonight, thanks
ps: i am bootlooping on samsung logo. What did i do wrong? I resoted system from your backup. Nevermind, needed to clear cache and it works

Ah, I think you need Uninstall updates on Google services, and playstore.
Wipe google data as well for both.
With dirty installs, I expect that Google service system files are on older updates, since my build is with fairly new Google system files.
I will need to address the removal of google system updates before flashing.
You can manually remove the Google updates by using TWRP, and mounting system, then use the file browser to remove all the Google apps in the apps folder in data.
I did mention that it will take a while to boot, when dirty flashing. It will dim but after 10 to 15 minutes it will finish.
Then I recomend waiting another 10 to 15 minutes for the system to build sdcard cache and app markers. It will reboot once more but much faster.
If one a clean (system wipe) after flash the boot is normal, and will not reboot.
My new build allows system settings reset... which may come in handy some day. It clears only system settings, not apps or their settings. It takes a while to complete, but it will clean up system corruption, without need to do a factory reset wipe. I am surprised Samsung disabled that on its tablets.

yea i did clean install and it booted up in few minutes, so it was fast. Than it needed few more minutes to load up. But all in all this was a great idea of semi custom rom

I'm testing the latest version, so far so good.
You can turn up the volume of the headphones and bluetooth from build.prop?
Thank you

Thanks for letting me know things are doing good with the updated version of my mods.
As for Bluetooth volume boost... not sure but I think tiny_hw.xml is what needs to be edited. I am not a dev, so that is something, I will look into... right now, I am tweaking my media configs, now that I have removed bad formatting of the config files and learning how to mix standard phone google video media config into the Google video_le, which this tablet uses.
Been testing a lot with jellyfish test clips. Found some Tweaks to make VP9, H265, and WMV playback smoother than stock. Though they are all limited by bit rate around 5MB and lower, and no greater than 1280x720 resolution.
Impressed with h264 decoder... plays level 5 100MB bit rate very well, though most vids need audio decoding, since AC3 is used on the high quality vids.
May release a final final build, with the enhanced audio/video capability, for April around easter. Done too much with this tablet with sorting out wee bugs, my mind needs a rest.
The good side is that I hardly see any issues with its reliability, now with how hard I use it. I got 12 hrs of continual use on a single charge, and that's with boost script and multiple reboots boots and loading applications, videons tests and editing files.
It took a wee bit for the battery management to kick in with reliable data, a few charges after a few days sorted out its history.

How to change the language of Svoice?
I can't find the folder
Thanks

Hi, Svoice is tied into system language, and Google TTS, as a fallback.
You can download the region files posted in the download links, and replace the US Files, with the ones in the folders, each folder corresponds to the ones in the system folder. If your language is not included in the region zip folder, you must setup google tts to install voice files for your region.
Oh, here is a link to an app to manage your blue tooth volume on various connections, not just one setting for all.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.darken.bluemusic
You may try resetting volume to verify the Bluetooth volume is properly synced to the media volume. To reset Bluetooth volume, set the headphone volume on the headset to low, lower the media volume down to 0, and disconnect Bluetooth. Do not unpaired the head set. Reconnect Bluetooth and adjust the media volume up to 3/4, then adjust your head set volume accordingly, to obtain the proper listening level.

Video decoding capabilities
After migrating Google phone MediaCodec settings into LE, and customizing default media codec settings, I have fully tested video formats listed below with dececent bit rates to correspond with very good to excellent picture quality and still be pause / jitter free.
Here are the codecs with their playback formats @24FPS, and my tested bit rates (some are near max, but others have head room)
YOUTUBE WEBM (vp9) 720p @60fps works fine on browser, and included youtube-vanced. Tried higher bit rates, but as expected software decode lacks cpu power, like h265, and wmv9 decoders. The real beauty is the vpu is unrestricted to take on 1920x1080 content at high bit rates, and doing 60fps, if encoded at that frame rate.
WMV (asf) 720p wma stereo 192kbs (Windows 7 Wildlife HD Demo) minor buffering video frame blur or freeze from background processes. (I will tweak further)
HEVC (h265) 720p 4mb/s (max bit rate)
WMV (wmv9) 720p 6mb/s (can go higher)
VC1 (avi, wmv) 1080p 6mb/s
WEBM (vp8) 1080p 30mb/s
WEBM (vp9) 1080p 4.5mb/s
WMV (wmv8) 720p 6mb/s
MP4 (mp4) 1080p 30mb/s
AVC (h264 mkv) 1080p 30mb/s & 720p 60fps all tested OK also 1080p with 100mb/s decode (no audio)
3GP (h263) 325p no limit on bit rate
FLV (flv) 720p 2mbps can go higher
Note... AVC 1080p 60fps jitters and will loose audio sync above 5MB/s data rate.
Don't have any other 60fps test files to check limitations with decoders and hardware.
Seems that this is as good as it is going to get for decoding videos.

[LIST] Best Root Apps (11-10-2012)

REMEMBER THIS IS NOT MY WORK
-all credits to Android_United
-original thread here
Most of you might be very much familiar with the rooting procedure. Its the process of giving yourself superuser permissions (ex - administrator in windows xp ).
If you are using a custom rom, then there is no need to specifically root your phone. But if you are using stock roms, then there is a guide to root in the forums.
Once rooted, you can now take your own decisions for your device which include improving system performance or flashing custom roms using cwm recovery or using any of these below listed apps. Use it wisely, as playing with your device performance can have damaging effects.
I AM NOT AT ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR DEVICE BY YOU.
Moving on, many of the rooted-on-stock and custom rom users might already know most of these apps and their uses, so this thread is for the begginers who have just rooted their devices.
Further, most of these apps are available in the playstore (mostly paid, but if you want the cracked versions, you can find them in the internet.
So here are some of the apps that might be usefull for you. I will also update this apps list as soon as, I find more usefull apps.

OOPPS! if you want this apps search it PLAYSTORE i can't post links cause 30000 characters are allowed per post ..spend some time to search
ADBWIRELESS
adbWireless does exactly what its name implies, all without the need for a USB cable. There really isn’t much to say as the app is, quite literally, a big red button that you can push to enable/disable wireless ADB connection. There’s also a widget for those times when you’re too lazy to fire up the full application. Its available on the playstore for free.
ADFREE
Blocks data access to a list of sites that store ads. Speeds up browsing experience as the ads aren’t downloaded along with the site and even blocks many ads from displaying in many of the ad supported apps.
AUTOKILLER MEMORY OPTIMIZER
Hate using scripts like V6 supercharger ?
Then is THE app for you.
It tweaks your xperia just like the V6, to run smoothly. It kills all the idle process running in the background and saves a lot of battery. You can choose various OOM values for all the apps like foreground, visible, empty etc. Donators are also able to choose alternate presets, enter Chuck Norris mode, and enjoy an ad-free experience. Its available in the playstore for free, worth a try.
AVAST! MOBILE SECURITY
an app that every rooted user should have installed. I know what you’re thinking – an antivirus app? Really? Yes, really. This app is different than the rest of the anti-virus applications in the Market, because it is also the best anti-theft solution of any app. (The other features of the app are top-notch, as well, but the anti-theft functionality is its only root function). Why is its anti-theft so good? Because
it used to be Theft Aware , an app that is listed above. TA was bought out buy avast! and incorporated into its Mobile Security app. The best part is that the root function of the app wasn’t altered in any way – avast’s anti-theft setup is identical to Theft Aware in every way but with a wonderfull UI – it’s simple and intuitive, and when it’s finished, you can rest assured that if your device is ever lost or stolen it’s as protected as it can be.
avast! Mobile Security is free and if you only choose to install one app from this roundup, I suggest that this is the one.
BUTTON SAVIOR
This is an similar to virtual buttons bar app, but with a slightly different and better UI. Button Savior might be worth a look.
CACHEMATE
CacheMate is cache cleaner app like no other cache cleaning app does it. Two, CacheMate can clear certain data from the device. This was/is extremely tedious to accomplish and linux does not handle this. Three, CacheMate clears cache from the SD card. While you can go and do this yourself, CacheMate does it all for you just by a simple tap on screen.
CALL BLOCKER
If you have specific numbers that you want to be blocked each time they call, then there’s a good chance you’ve turned to apps that automate this process. There is one problems with that, though:
Most apps still let your phone ring at least once. That’s where Root Call Blocker rises above the rest. Root Call Blocker detects incoming calls at the system level, so it can block them much more efficiently. In fact, it’s so efficient that it blocks the call before your phone even rings, so you’re completely unaware that the offending caller has tried to contact you in the first place. The app offers
many other features as well, such as call logs, multiple rejection methods, multiple profiles, caller grouping, SMS auto-replies, and much more. This app is not free, but there is also a trial version so you can give it a try before dropping any money.
CALL MASTER
It’s probably the best call and text firewall in the playstore. It can control dozens of variables in countless situations – everything from blocking certain numbers during certain times of day, sending specific numbers to voicemail, to auto-hang ups etc.
CHAINFIRE 3D
With this app you can play all the HD games on your mini. It comes with various visual gameplay options. Its a paid app and is available in the playstore. Do give it a try.
DROIDWALL ANDROID FIREWALL
It will make sure apps on your phone don’t unnecessarily waste your limited data plan without your knowledge. The app’s main feature is turning off EDGE or 3G or WiFi access for any application, thus allowing you to restrict which apps can access the network. In addition to saving bandwidth, DroidWall can be used for security – just lock down a suspicious app to make sure it doesn’t try to unnecessarily encroach your privacy. As an added bonus, a log of what goes on is included.
DUAL MOUNT SD WIDGET
The inability to mount your SD card to both your phone and PC at the same
time can be quite annoying, as you can’t access any of the information or apps that reside on your SD card when your device is mounted to your computer. Dual Mount SD Card is a simple and practical solution to this problem, as it allows you to access your SD card from phone and PC alike while it’s mounted. In order for this app to function properly, you must first disable Android’s auto-mount option, using the widget instead. This available on the playstore.
ES FILE EXPLORER
This an application for exploring your phone’s directories.
For developers, its usefulness is self-explanatory. For the average user, it certainly is a solid file explorer with a better interface especially, ES file exp. One more unique feature of these file explorers is the ability to modify permissions settings on files or folders. It comes packed with some solid features apart from the conventional file viewing. Its completely free and is available in the market.
GAME ON
It not only allows users to backup and restore game data, but download and share game progress over the Game On network. Yeah, you read right – share. Game. Data. Maybe you’re stuck on a particular part of a game. Perhaps you just don’t feel like playing through all the boring crap (Gta 3) and want to jump straight into the good stuff. It doesn’t matter the reason you want to progress in a game – Game On is the solution. Game On costs a buck in the playstore. So give it a try and happy gaming !
HEXAMOB RECOVERY PRO
If you’ve ever accidentally deleted any data from your mini, then Hexamob Recovery Pro is here to save the day. Hexamob Recovery Pro is a data recovery tool designed to grab deleted files from either the SD card or internal storage of your Android phone. It supports the FAT file system, and offers the ability to scan the media for specific files types, including audio, video, images etc.
JUICE DEFENDER: ULTIMATE JUICE DEFENDER
Juice Defender is a battery conservation app. It uses various triggers, rules, and timers to control how often your device utilizes 3G/EDGE APN’s and wifi. These data connections are the number one drainers of battery life when your phone is idle, so Juice Defender allows you to decide when, where, and how often you want them to be active. Ultimate Juice ( paid version of Juice Defender) must be installed over an existing copy of Juice Defender, which unlocks a few additional capabilities for users with root permissions. It also provides some extra goodies for root users including the ability to adjust CPU clock speeds on the run to conserve battery, which requires root permissions.
KEYBOARD MANAGER
When it comes to landscape keyboards, it’d be hard to top what HTC has going with Sense UI. If it’s portrait input you’re after, however, Swype is the cream of the crop. So how can you decide ? Should you manually change your input method each and every time you switch orientations, or type exclusively in one
position? As it turns out, you won’t have to partake in either of those practices; downloading Keyboard Manager will suffice. The app is simple:
Allow users to use one keyboard in portrait mode and another when they turn their phone on its side.
LBE PRIVACY GUARD
This is probably one of the best privacy guards that are ever seen apart from the pdroid patch by Yagya. Its functionality is akin to that of a software firewall, with some elements of Windows UAC thrown in. LBE sits in the background and “listens” to your apps as they request various permissions and then provides you a notice with options to either grant or deny access.
LCD DENSITY
It changes the font of your mini, virtually everything. This is not a resolution changer (lol) , as I have seen many comments in playstore. It simply changes the depth and space of your mini. Using the app is very easy – simply adjust the slider or click on one of the big rectangular buttons to alter the density, then click ‘Apply’ to restart your device and see the changes in effect. Of course, the smaller the font, the harder it is to press onscreen objects; the larger the font, the more screen space goes to waste.
LIVE DMESG BOOT AND LIVE LOGCAT BOOT
You won't have any words, to being shown the real dmesg (kernel debug) or logcat (Android debug) log every time your mini boots up ? So this is an app for all those dev's out there who are crazy about logs.
MARKET AUTOUPDATE BULK TOGGLE
Another simple yet incredibly useful root-only app:
Market Autoupdate Bulk Toggle. This is an app that takes the Market’s auto-update feature to a whole new level:
Pressing "Autoupdate On" does exactly what you’d expect: it turns on auto-update for all of your installed apps. That’s it – you’ll never have to confront that pesky "Allow automatic updating" option in the Market again. The only caveat is that the program only enables automatic updates for apps that are already installed and won’t apply to those installed in the future – for those, you’ll have to rerun Market Autoupdate Bulk Toggle and press "Autoupdate On" again. Unsurprisingly, you’ll still have to push the "Update" button yourself when an app receives a manual update (which only happens when its permissions change – not a frequent occurrence). Although this feature is present in the playstore, all those who like using the old market this surely comes in handy. It’s free and available on the playstore.
MARKET ENABLER
One of the most frequent excuses for piracy has to be "The app isn’t available in my country" or "Google doesn’t allow paid apps where I live." No longer!
MarketEnabler makes your Android phone believe it’s on another carrier – perhaps even one in another country. For example, a Swede could use this app to access Google Books, which is, by official terms, available exclusively in the US, right ? So use it and let the downloading begin !
MOVE2SD ENABLER / INSTALL MANAGER
Move2SD Enabler or Install manager, allow users to move any app to the SD card. Like adbWireless, it’s as simple as pressing a button. It’s free and both the the apps are available in the playstore. Although scripts like s2e and link2sd etc are there its sometimes convinient to use apps like these.
MYBACKUP
Pretty much like titanium backup but, if you love backing up your phone’s
data but wish you back all of it up at once, all for free. MyBackup might just
be the perfect app. With it, you can not only back up your apps data before changing ROMs; you can also schedule backups, back up to your SD card, and back up things you never even thought possible, such as contact info, home screens, and SMS/MMS conversations.
This app offers two versions, a free version with nearly all of the functionality, and a paid version for $4.99. The main difference is that the free edition only allows you to save your backups on your SD card, while the premium allows placing them on Rerware’s servers, although I wouldn’t recommend anybody who
values their data to use a random online service.
REBOOT CONTROL
Reboot Control does 4 things, and 4 things only:
It allows you to reboot, recovery boot, wipe handset or bootloader boot with a single tap. The real usefulness of QuickBoot is in the ability to make home screen widgets for these functions, so they’re always at your fingertips. Since, almost all the custom roms these days use this as a built-in function so this app can be usefull for the stock users.
ROM MANAGER
ROM Manager allows you to flash almost any ZIP to your phone, whether it be a kernel, ROM, app package, or radio image or even initiate a nandroid backup.
Although it is strongly recommended to use the clockworkmod recovery or rz recovery for cfw and odin for stock, as many mini users reported it was bricking their phone.
ROOT EXPLORER
Similar to any other file explorer app in the market. But its specialty is that, it can crawl deep into the deepest corners of android and modify them like the elusive dalvik cache to sd. Its a paid app available in the market.
SAMBA FILESHARING
Samba file sharing is the bomb. It turns your phone into an smb server and puts your sd card on your desktop when you’re on a wifi network. It allows you to share files between your mini and pc over WiFi as a Windows shared folder. With this free app, you can wirelessly copy files to/from your Android device via the same drag-and-drop interface you use when your handset is plugged into your computer with a standard USB cable. Even the security freaks have a reason to celebrate –
Samba offers customizable username and password options in addition to letting users choose a Windows workgroup name and a device network (NETBIOS) name.
SCREENCAST VIDEO RECORDER
Taking a lot of screenshots and "videos" of apps and games is a habit to you ? Then Screencast is your go-to app, especially for the latter. If you ever find yourself in need of a way to record what’s happening on-screen, look no further than Screencast. The app costs $4, but there is a demo available so you can give it a shot before you buy.
SD MAID
SD Maid frees up space on your phone’s SD card by cleansing it of "corpses in the basement," or unnecessary data left behind by apps no longer installed on your mini. It works with all roms currently on the forums. Use it and know the difference.
SET CPU/ NO FRILLS
These apps let you control the speed of operation of your mini. They come with all the latest governers and I/O schedulers, though some roms governers are rom specific. Also, an Overclock kernel is required to use this app.
SHARK FOR ROOT
It’s essentially a stripped down version of WireShark. It’s a particularly geeky app to have, but for developers or those of us obsessed with monitoring where our traffic is going its a great app. Shark monitors all network activity on your device (presumably from all interfaces) and outputs a .pcap file by consrving quite an amount of battery when compared to other apps in the playstore. So use it and know the difference yourself.
SHOOTME
This app is for all those dev's out their, who want show the world what they have achieved.
ShootMe is a screenshot capture app that allows you to take a screenshot of your mini with a simple shake of your device.
SIXAXIS CONTROLLER
Sixaxis Controller allows you to connect a PS3 controller to your mini, giving you the ability to have a full gaming experience on your handset. You grab Sixaxis Controller form the Market for $1.62.
THEFT AWARE
Theft Aware, while considerably more complex than the other items on the list, is an Android security app unlike any other. With it, you can remotely track your phone if it gets lost or stolen, wipe it, call it and spy on the thief, and much more. Its free and available on the playstore.
TITANIUM BACKUP
Losing all the apps on your device accidentally or while flashing custom rom is a bad feeling. Re-downloading every app is a painstaking work so fortunately for root users, Titanium Backup provides the solution. Titanium Backup is a powerful backup utility which stores your apps, app data, and system data on your SD card for safekeeping. Titanium Backup can also painlessly remove, freeze-unfreeze any app, including system apps. This app can be configured to run its tasks on a schedule, and the $3.99 donate version allows you to set up multiple schedules for the various combinations of backups it is capable of performing.
UNDELETE
This one is sure to save many people a lot of heartache. We’ve all mistakenly
deleted files before, potentially losing them forever. The next time that happens, though, Undelete is here to save the day by scanning your device’s SD Card, finding all the deleted files, and, in most cases, restoring these files. The app is free in the playstore, so there’s no excuse to ever lose another file.
TOTAL COMMANDER
Total Commander is a feature packed dual-pane file manager for Android, based off of the popular Windows file manager of the same name. It really is the only file manager that you’ll ever need. Most of the CM7 roms come cooked with it, in case you are using stock this will come in real handy.
VIRTUAL BUTTON BAR
If your mini's buttons are about to fall off or something has happened and your buttons no longer work, then this app can save you a lot of time and trouble. Its entire purpose is to provide on-screen emulation of the dedicated hardware
buttons on most Android devices. The app offers various customizable features, such as user-definable buttons and positions, lockscreen animations, the ability to change various hardware button actions (volume, camera, etc) and a few
aesthetic variations such as transparency and button size. Virtual Button Bar is $1.63, but there is fully-functional trial available, as well in the playstore.
WIFI PROTECTOR
WiFi Protector is a security app that protects your device from Wi-Fi sniffing attacks. It’ll detect and prevent ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) attacks, like DoS (Denial of Service) and MitM (Man in the Middle). Unlike most of the other apps in the roundup, this one actually offers a little bit of functionality for non-rooted users too. It can even defend your mini against WiFiKill, an app that can eject basically any user off of a Wi-Fi network with the tap of a button. Its a paid app available on the playstore.
WIRELESS TETHER
Wireless Tether remains the best way to utilize your mini as a WiFi or Bluetooth (PAN) hotspot. Its free and its open source. Available in playstore. But, it is certainly a battery killer so use it while charging the device.*
ZMOOTH ROOT
Another on-screen app. You must be wondering, whats wrong with this guy. Well, the only reason is my phone. My buttons are almost gonna fall off. So I pretty much like the apps which have various customizations. So bare with me .
Moving on, this app is on the same bandwidth as Button Savior etc. zMooth relies on webOS-like gestures rather than clunky virtual buttons. To access zMooth, users can start by simply pulling up a blue (default) bar from the bottom of the screen. To go back, they can swipe left; swiping right is pressing the Menu button; and drawing an "up-arrow" will return to homescreen. The $1.19 pro version adds the ability to change the gesture area’s width and colors as well as a "lightning strike" gesture for powering the device on/off.
05-04-2012 - NEW APPS ADDED
BATTERY CALLIBRATION
If you have a regular habit of changing roms ? Then this is the right app for you.
Its a battery calibration app. It wipes all the battery stats/data from your phone and will make your phone ready to produce some fresh new stats. In this way your battery will last longer as it is always recommended to calibrate the battery after flashing a new rom. Its a free app and is available in the playstore.
BUSYBOX INSTALLER
Did you ever feel, where can I get a old version of busybox ? This is a common query while using the V6 Supercharger, since it recommends a busybox 1.18.2 or higher version. So ever come across an app that requires an older version of busybox ? Then this is right app to turn for. Its a free app and many versions are available in the playstore so, choose wisely
EASY TETHER
Too lazy to go into settings>wireless and networks>tethering>usb tether ??
Then this is your go to app. Its a one-click tethering app for your mini so that you can use it to browse on your laptop or desktop. Its a free app available in the playstore.
ROOT UNINSTALLER
Annoyed by the fact that you can't remove those useless system apps ? No more ! This is that app, that removes all the useless apps from your mini. It can also freeze user apps, backup them, delete them, unfreeze them, move them sd card etc. Its a powerful to have and sometimes may come in handy some times. Its a free app available in the playstore.
SCREENSHOT ER
Another screenshot app. Its a completely free app in the playstore unlike any other in the playstore. As it is free, there has to be some way to chop our legs. . So that drawback is a 6-sec delay after taking every screenshot. Though if u buy it, you can reduce that delay to 1-sec. Some of its features are, screenshot preview ( various views for previews ) , shake SS, on-screen button, notification capture etc. Use it and the know the difference yourself.
SCREEN SHOT UX
A screenshot app that has all the cool features like shake to capture your screen. Its fully functional trial is available in the playstore. Use it and feel the app before investing in it
SCRIPT MANAGER
"THE" app for applying "ANY" script for your phone. It can help create terminal widgets for apps that aren't available for that app, by simple taps of the screen. SM widgets is another add-on for this app so you can use its full power.
It can also help tweak your phones performance by applying scripts like V6, kickass, 3G booster etc. A must have app for any dev or tweaker. It can serve as a decent root explorer for an average user. Its available in the playstore for free.
SD BOOSTER
The dev of this app claims it to increase the external memories speed upto 40 times than before. You can set this app to work from boot. If you don't believe me or the dev, just use any of the benchmark tools and see the proof your self. Its a tiny-free app available on the playstore. Do try it
SD SPEED INCREASE
Originally developed by our xda member '"brainmaster". Its a similar app to SD Booster. The app has similar results to that of its competitor in terms of write/read speeds in any benchmark apps. Its also a tiny-free app available in the playstore.
SYSTEM TUNER PRO
The most complete android system utility app/tool. It does all activities like backing-up your apps, task killer, logcat reader, terminal emulator, memory controls, freeze/unfreeze apps, activity recorder, system tweaker etc. Use it and you'll know the difference yourself. You can also setup widgets and notification indicators to any of these function and monitor your phone with real ease. Its a free app available in the playstore.
TASKER
If you have a habit of forgetting things ? Then this is the BEST app available in the whole playstore. Then only drawback of this app is, YOU. lol, yeah coz if you forget to set the tasker to do its task, then you are actually limiting its function. So moving on, Tasker is powerful app that has triggers which can make you remember the mildest things through its alarm and etc functions, 200+ built-in actions , task completion, scene/icon/design your own task according to yourself. So what are you waiting for ? OH wait, have you forgotten what you were doing ? Then first download this app.
Its a paid app available in the playstore.
Z SCREEN RECORER
Probably the only app to give some competition to screencast app. Its a similar app compared to the screencast video recorder. It simply has two big buttons, when the app is opened. It simply records whatever is happening on the screen and saves the video to your sd directly. It has fully functional demo in the playstore. Try it before buying it.
05-05-2012 NEW APPS ADDED
ADWAY
Its an app similar to ad-free. It uses leeches to prevent ads from being downloaded while browsing on your mini. Once you install this app and update the host files, you are ready to go for a ad-free experience on any app or browser. It even removes the ads from app that come with those annoying ads, this ultimately improves the performance of the game.
ANTUTU CPU MASTER
AnTuTu CPU Master is a tool for changing CPU/GPU speed. Its similar to SetCpu or no-frills. It slightly has better UI. You can overclock your device for faster performance or slow down by reducing the clock frequency. Its a tiny-free app available in the playstore.
BUILD PROP EDITOR
As the name says, it an app to change and modify the build.prop for tweaking your phone. This is a good app to have for devs who like playing with OOM values. If you don't know what is build.prop file, then you should possibly leave this app let alone download. It also has recommended values, keyboard layout and comes with a proper explanation. Before playing with the file, the app creates a backu-up of your current build.prop file in case you forget. So even if you are not satisfied with your tweak or an error has occured, you can simply replace the back-up easily. . This tiny app is available for free in the playstore.
DROID TWEAKER ROOT
A small All-in-one app for your rooted mini. It also can mount the system partition as read-write for development purposes and also can clear dalvik cache directly by the tap of a button. Its presently in beta stage but its working fine for me. This tiny app is free and its available in the playstore.
Faster Fix Speed up your fix of your current location using your mini's GPS. Here is the link to the trick/hack used in addition to this app : Enjoy

FONY CHANGER ROOT
Requires FULL ROOT and of-course a working-full busy boz. CWM and a backup(just for safety ) is recommended as a boot-loop MIGHT occur, according to dev. Moving on, this allows you to change fonts. You might be asking, Why root for a puny font changer app ? The answer is, it changes fonts. Yes it changes fonts of virtually anything, even the keyboard you are using right now . According to the dev, it creates a buck-up of your default font in-case something happens. While removing this app, make sure that you restore setting of your default font. In case you forgot, just restore your nandroid back-up .
It has the following features -
*font preview and changer.
*screen density changer.
*Quick reboot (after changing the font, a really QuickBoot occurs, thanks to this app.)
* localization of languages (English,Russian, Spanish etc. )
Its a free app in the playstore and a donate version is also available in case you like the app.
OTA ROOT KEEPER
Want to " TEMPORARILY UN-ROOT " your device so that you can test some new app or tweak or get access to some stupid website ?? Then this is the right app for you. This app is created by the devs of Voodoo Sound specifically for galaxy s,s2 etc. It creates a back-up of your su-binary before temporarily un-rooting the device. It needs an ext-2, 3 or 4 partition for working. This tiny app is available in the playstore for free.
ROOT CHECKER
This tiny-free app DOES NOT REQUIRE ROOT. Then why on the list ? As the name implies, it simply checks your su-binary and verifies that your phone is properly rooted or not. So this app is helpful for beginners who rooted their stock recently and lets you check whether you have followed the procedure correctly or not. Its available in the playstore for free.
SPARE PARTS
This is a very handy app to have. It currently works only on custom roms and CM7. It a tool to control all your hidden interface changes in your custom rom. Going through setting for even changing even the screenlock can be painful, So this app save that time and energy easily. It also allows you to change the screen transition type and its speeds, wifi sleep policy, useage statistics etc. Its a free app and is available in the playstore.
SUPERSU
Another great app from a great master, none other than our ChanFire himself. After giving us some great apps like CF3D, live demsg and logcat etc, its time to include this great app to the list. Its a replaceable counterpart app for the superuser app by Chainsdd i.e our default superuser permissions granter by applying the standard procedure. So installing this app simply replaces you current/default permissions granter. Try it and as always perform a back-up of your apps and data. Its a free app and is available in the playstore.
SWAPPER
It lets you create, add and manage swap memory file without a swap partition on SD card. Reconfigure the app if you changed your swap size. This tiny app is free and its available in the playstore.
WEBKEY
Using this app you can now control your phone from any browser. Yeah, you heard me right ! With this app you can send screenshots, control another phone, download-upload files, get gps location, read-write sms, export-import contacts-sms-call logs, terminal emulator etc.. So what are you waiting for ? Go ahead and try this app as its a free app available in the playstore.

Essential apps and setup on GBX0* + 3.4.26.13 kernel - update 02/01/13

I've been using GBX0* + 3.4.26.13 kernel for sometime on my uk rhod100. I know that it's not recommended for rhod100 but I have found it to work very well (a big thanks to the developers - hopefully the bug with bluetooth causing occasional reboots will be solved soon). After some reading around and experimentation I have found a setup that I am very happy with. Below I share my current setup in the hope that some find it useful. I stress that none of this is original and can be found scattered around the forums.
Initial Installation
Firstly, when installing the ROM I remove all the apks from the system/app directory that I have no use for. The apps I have removed without any detrimental effects are:
Bluetooth (I belive this is only required for file transfers via bluetooth which has never worked with any xdandroid build on my device)
GenieWidget (News and weather widget I never use but does cause device wakeups and launches when a data connection is found even if not used)
HTMLviewer
LatinimeTutorial
Mediauploader
PinyinIME (chinese android keyboard input)
Protips
Talk (Gtalk - never used this)
Vpnservices
I also uninstall launcher2 once I have installed an alternative after flashing (Lightning launcher with the least demanding settings and no wallpaper, as few widgets as possible and one screen is recommened)
Performance
The [[Speed Improvements]] Brainstorming & Testing Thread!! is full of useful tips and advice however was started sometime ago. I did use the V6 supercharger script for some time with good results however I now use and application called Android Tuner from the play store. With this app I can do many of the tips and tweak from the convenience of an app. I use it to do the following
1. Contolling the CPU frequency for overclocking. Stable upto 710MHz on my device
2. Controlling OOM settings (I use 8,16,32,64,96,128)
3. Controlling startup apps
4. Turning off the receivers for GoogleServicesframework
5. Performing tasks like FixPermissions / Clearing System caches / Wipe Davlik etc.
The app does a whole load more (changing SD cache / changing SysCtl settings/allowing uninstalling of system apps) - if people have other setup tips please share
I have also recently started using an app called Seeder (available for free to xda members) which seems to improve general performance. I am in the early stages of trying this but it does seem to help a bit. The reviews generally seem positive but the manner in which it works is debated. Any other experiences of this app would be appreciated. One drawback is claimed to be a decreased batter life - I have not seen this.
Battery Life
All the usual stuff re screen brightness and timeout apply here as well as data connections etc.
I have been using an app called One Power Guard which does seem to improve battery life mainly during standby without any discernible decrease in performance. This app causes various system and kernel tweaks,
Disabling data connections etc is well known to help improve battery life but I have also found a big difference by turing off Use Wireless networks in the Location and Security Settings.
A second battery with this ROM is recommended and I am very happy with the Mugen 1800mah battery.
Essential Apps
Notification Toggle by j4velin I would say is a must. It allows shortcuts (for apps and settings) and toggles (like CM7.2) for system settings to be placed in the notification area. With the rhod100 not reconnecting the wifi networks after a screen off having a rapid toggle function is essential. Highly recommended and light weight,
Leo AGPS injector app by tytung is essential for speeding up GPS locks. From reading around when using this app first extablish a data connection, then turn on GPS and then run the widget. Definitely speeds up GPS lock times. (Use GPS test to check)
Clock Sync by sergey baranov is another essential for preventing clock drift. Also I have read that an accurate clock time can improve GPS lock times so another reason for this app. As in the xdandroid FAQ I have it set to sync every hour. It may also be beneficial to change the NTP server to a local one.
That concludes my round up of my current setup. Please contribute any other tips that I have missed out. The above have only been tried with this ROM and work well on my Rhod100, I hope this is of help to someone.
Thanks akk29, very useful. I have now tried some of the things you have, some I will get around too as I play more and find more out (eg, controlling startup apps, uninstall inglauncher, GoogleServicesframewor). I'm constantly turning my backlight up/down - is there a fix for doing this automatically?
The jury is out as whether I'll switch back to WinMo... I love all the new apps I've got that WinMo just doesn't have.
The biggest problem, (at least I think it's what's causing problems), is speed (I'm running ok at 787 MHz at the moment!). The phone doesn't want to know about the Facebook App - it says it's loading it, but then bombs out after thinking for quite a while. Also it's very fussy about touching the screen. Trying to type using the screen keyboard is almost impossible. I love the hardware keyboard (which is why I've got the TP2), but sometimes I just need a quick soft-key entry. And whether I pressed a button or not, only time would tell.
But I'll use it and play with it for a little while longer, and most probably become too reliant on all the android apps to revert back!
[I had a WinMo tweak for boosting the volume which made my phone very loud, but now it seems quite quiet, especially playing songs]

That's a old kernel/rom. Try the newer release like the 3.4.41 kernel.
Autobrightness was fixed in 3.4.26.
WizardKnight, I am using 3.4.35 Kernel - I've got a RHOD100, so the 41 didn't work very well (which is a shame, as fps has increased in that build). Thanks for the note about the autobrightness (looking at the changelog I have it working now I turn off/on the LCD).
Anyone had better luck with the Facebook app / integration?

I removed more than 100 system apks, and my Mega works like a charm.
You will notice that the google apks are missing, and that the video player, music player, file manager etc. are missing as well, I removed them because I don't like the way they spy on us and suck our private data (look at the permissions they have if you don't believe me). No worries, just keep on reading for some alternative apks, and some ways to prevent spying...
IMPORTANT
1-Before to start the delete process do a Nandroid back up, and do a back up of your system/app folder (where all the system apks are) in case you want to reinstall a specific apk later.
2-If you decide to uninstall the filemanager apk, install first an alternative file manager, like let's say ghost commander, because if you don't then you won't have any app anymore to navigate to your files after having uninstalled the file manager, pretty obvious.
Same story with the launcher, or you will get a bootloop.
3-After you uninstalled all the apks do a cache and a dalvik cache wipe.
4-Reboot and enjoy full speed and no lags!!!:good:
5-Go to the data/data folder and erase the folders from the removed apks (optional), or use sd maid or whatever similar apk to do it for you.
IMPORTANT 2
Do not mess with system apks if you don't know what you are doing and if you don't know how to get back to the beginning in case things go wrong.
I won't take any responsability for any damage caused to your phone.
All what I mention below has worked for me but once more, do not play with your system unless you know how to recover if things get out of control.
SAFE TO REMOVE APKS
Rather than giving a list of removed apks I will list here the apks I didn't remove, so that you can assume that any apk that is not on the list is safe to remove. I do so because it's faster to list the remaining apks than the removed ones...
So here are the apks I kept (I have to admit that it's a bit extreme, and you are of course not obliged to keep so few apks, but at least you'll know which ones are safe to remove):
-csc
-defaultcontainerservice
-flashbarservice (removable if you don't want to have the static multi windows function. By the way I made a mod to enable floating multi windows that doesn't need the flashbar, you can find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48000697#post48000697)
-fusedlocation
-hybrid radio (removable if radio is not your thing)
-jobmanager
-logsprovider
-minimode-res (removable, but I kept it temporarly for testing purposes on the above mentionned floating windows mod)
-packageinstaller
-samsungcamera (removable? It seems that if one removes it then alternative cameras don't work, but I haven't tried them all)
-seccontacts
-seccontactsprovider
-sechtmlviewer (removable and replacable by an alternative html viewer, but since it doesn't spy and since it works well I kept it)
-secphone
-secsettings
-secsettingsprovider
-sectelephonyprovider
-stk
-systemui
-vpndialogs (removable, but then no more vpn)
-wlantest
Note that if you delete mediaprovider you won't be able to change your ringtone and your notification tone anymore (not a big deal for me but I don't know for you), and you will be stucked with the default tones. To change them manually you'll have to open the res/raw folder in framework-res.apk and add your own tones, not a big deal.
ALTERNATIVE APKS
-Launcher:
holo launcher hd, or whatever launcher you like, but install it before you uninstall touch wiz!
-Keyboard (Samsung ime):
I use the modded Xperia keyboard but there are many others.
SMS:
go sms, or any sms apk you like, choices are plentiful.
-Bluetooth:
if you use it for speakers or headphones keep it, but if you use it only to transfer files then uninstall it and use fastfiletransfer (the best, it works without wifi connection) and/or any ftp app (like swiftp for example, but such apps require an active internet connection) instead.
-Video:
mx player or bs player (the two best ones to my opinion) + floating player (basic video player but it boasts a resizable floating window, handy if you want to watch something while doing something else).
-File manager:
ghostcommander (dual panel mode, root browser, customisable toolbar),- or totalcommander.
-Music player:
I like gone mad music player but there are one zillion other options.
-Browser:
opera mini for speed, mozilla firefox for full desktop experience, and dolphin mini for something in the middle. Chrome? No thanks, the least google stuff I have in my phone the better I feel!!!
-Gallery:
quickpic.
-Polaris (pdf reader):
moon reader or mantano.
-Edit documents (doc., docx. etc.):
office suite or kingsoft office.
-Alarm:
any alarm clock apk will do, there are heaps of free ones...
-Google Talk:
lillypad hd.
-Gmail:
any email apk will do, otherwise access gmail from opera mini browser, it's faster.
-Play Store:
aptoide (there are others, see which one fits you the best).
Google Now:
actually you can keep that one if you like it, it's a stand alone apk which means that unlike gmail or gtalk apks it doesn't need the full google framework to work.
-Google maps: maverick (but there are others), google earth (stand alone apk, and not too much on the spy side).
-Clipboard:
clipboard contents.
-Calculator:
aircalc (floating calc).
-Quick Notes:
floating stickies.
-Bonus:
greenify (try it, it hybernates apks and saves juice).
That's all what I can think of for now. You are of course free to ask if you need anything but remember, most stock apks are replaceable and a quick internet search will show you plenty of alternative apks.
Last part, how not to be spied...
Some of the alternative apks I listed above do have abusive permissions, and so have the remaining system apks. To prevent your personal data to be sucked and sent who knows where you need four apks, namely:
1-Rom Toolbox Lite (free) or Pro (paid),
2-Privacy Blocker (paid),
3-AFWall+ (firewall, free),
4-Xprivacy (free).
-First open Privacy Blocker. Scan all your third part apks one by one, and see their dirty little secrets. Then mod the ones you don't like, it's easy, just follow the onscreen instructions.
-Second, open Rom Toolbox. Block adds, prevent any apk from auto starting, disable any transmitter you don't like, and try some build.prop and kernel tweaks if you feel like it (but be careful and do not play with your build.prop and your kernel unless you really know what you are doing).
-Third, set your firewall for wifi, 2/3/4 g, vpn, wlan and roaming with AFWall+.
-Last but not least, install the ultimate protection, Xprivacy:

Enjoy!

[Help] Whatsapp videopreview black screen with audio

Hello everyone,
I have a Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) with Kernel 3.18.91. and Android 8.0. The phone was rooted just recently with the latest version of magisk.
I am not quite the expert, but I will try my best to describe the issue.
Basically after I rooted this phone, I started noticing that I could no longer play back videos in Whatsapp before I send them (the preview window where you can edit it before sending it).
All it does now is play back the audio and show a black screen. It doesn't crash or anything, the content of the video is just not being played except the audio.
Video playback is completely fine in the stock gallery app and everywhere else.
I already reinstalled Whatsapp and restarted my Phone
I have the following modules for magisk installed:
Busybox 1.31.1
debloater 17.3.3
Viper4Android FX 2.7.1
Samsung 4K60 Camera Mod 7.6.86
I also removed some of the bloating software with the terminal, but upon noticing this issue I decided to revert some of the changes. I do not know if this issue persisted beforehand. I was thinking that I might have deleted something here that was important for its functionality, but then the stock player wouldnt work either right?
I would rather not do a factory reset to fix this, if possible. However, if there is no other possibilty is there a way to backup all my modules and settings?
Here is what I tried:
reinstall Whatsapp multiple times
restart the phone
revert some of the changes in the debloater terminal
deactivate HW overlay
My guess is that I deleted something in the terminal that was important, is there a way to know for sure?
I hope someone can give me some hints as to what this problem is about. I will make sure to add screenshots of the list EDIT: need 10 posts to send links so I will just do it manually.
list of removed apps:
Basic Daydreams
Skype
tuiService
VoiceAssistant
upsmtheme
gearmanagerstub
samsung galaxy friends
language packs
galaxy essential widgets
Gear VR Service
S voice
Samsung gear, account, billing, cloud
EDIT 2: I found a temporary fix by enabling force GPU rendering in the system settings, I double checked by enabling the refresh indicator and previewing a video. Once I disable this option, video preview no longer works again. Question now is, if there is a way for me to exclusively enable this for whatsapp to save battery life
Just switch rendering by gpu in develop opp
Manny thanks buddy its works
Tomas
How to Enable Force GPU Rendering:
First of all "THANKYOU" for the solution of error. May GOD Bless You
1. Go to Settings and scroll all the way down to the bottom.
2. If you don't see the option, tap on About phone (About device) and look for an entry called Build Number.
3. Tap on Build number 7 times until you get a message saying “You are now a developer“.
4. Find Force GPU Rendering option and enable it.
Request for prayers.

same issue here with my Galaxy S7 EDGE in whatsapp i factory reseted reinstalled whatsapp but still same issue any help?
Having the same issue here with my s7 edge too i haven't rooted or done anything to it. Its a tmobile version.. Before it was blank screen with sound.. Noe there is no sound at all.. Any solution please
Seems to be a general bug for some devices...
Force GPU rendering and clearing my cache didn't fix it for me, however, I was able to get around the black screen by hitting the "Add files" icon, and immediately hitting "OK" without adding any additional files. Video preview renders fine after doing this each and every time. It's a hassle but it works for me. Hope this helps someone.
In case this is an entirely different bug, the file's audio still plays for me when I tap the black screen on my Google Pixel 3.
Thank you so much i have been dealing with this in my samsung s7 too for a long time and i fixed it with an old version of whatsapp, until today that i couldn´t use it anymore because it was too old. This is the first site that i have seen a real solution to this problem. Thanks againn!!
It worked
I enable developer and force gpu rendering and I can now preview videos before uploading on whatsapp. I've been having this issue from the time I got my phone and now it works fine thanks guys

Unable to "stick" App/Widgets to the Lock Screen

I'm trying to permanently view the controls for the app "Listen Audiobook Player" to my lock screen.
But it only remains there whilst the audio is playing or for a short period after the audio stops.
The app's controls are permanently displayed in the drop down notification window. Also the app isn't restricted by any battery management either.
Other apps like "VLC" don't "stick" either, they all time out. I'm not sure if it's an Android 12 - One UI4 feature or it's not configured correctly.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Android 12 is more a buggered Apple than Android
Try clearing the system cache.
Is it a clean load clean; no SmartSwitch transfer, etc?
If only some apps are doing it, it may be the apps themselves.
You could try installing either Digi Clock or One Handed Operation plus (both great to have apps) and then set a short cut to the app with them as a workaround.

Thank you for the suggestions, but they didn't work.
Cleaned cache in Recovery Mode. No transfers active.
I didn't install Digi Clock, but creating a shortcut in One Handed Operation +, I just got a prompt to unclock the phone before I could run the app.

Unclock the phone?
You're rooted? Did you remove, block or disable any of the numerous Samsung system apks?
They were added since Pie to preserve the UI appearance and functionality at least this is true with Android 10 with Samsung's.
In the Android 10 UI alone there are close to 100 new ones I believe, too numerous to count. I was amazed when I first compared it to my other N10+ running on Pie.
The N10+ Q variant appears to be fast and stable though. I left almost all of the new Samsung System apks alone to preserve functionality/usability. Oddly the newer N10+ looks and behaves almost identically to the Pie variant. As fast, maybe faster with near the same battery usage. Scoped storage appears to be dormant in the Q variant at least with older apps... I didn't expect that.

Yes, unlock the phone with fingerprint scanner. The shortcut won't run otherwise.
No, not rooted.
Yes, I've removed things like Samsung Free and other ones I don't use with ADB. I've used battery management to restrict (i.e. not unrestricted or optimised) most apps, inc. the Samsung ones. Which makes the OS think they're disabled.

You may have inadvertently removed a needed parent app or app that had dependencies. The names can be misleading. Many just sit there and do nothing unless needed. Be careful with the Samsung system apps...
Try disabling all power management.
Using it will cause erratic behavior.
Deal with power hogs on a case by case basis.
To verify it's disabled; Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is enabled (power management can't be disable here).
In Device Care only fast charging should be toggled.
I use Package Disabler as it's easier to use, works on the fly, and can be used for troubleshooting. Able to clear system app data and leave no null marks. I have about 80 apps permanently blocked, 7 that I sometimes use.

You are welcome.
Another thing you can try is rolling back updates to the factory loaded versions* especially on the Samsung system apps.
Samsung Experience comes to mind. Updates tend to break things. It could also be a custom Galaxy theme that's incompatible if you loaded one.
Play with it... you'll eventually find the cause. Samsung's can be handful but their UI is my favorite... fast, very stable and extremely customizable. Nothing like the old TouchWiz.
Samsung's should to be optimized* to get the most out of them.
Lol, the first things I kill are little bixby and firmware OTA updates. Bixby Vision and Vision Framework however are needed for reading UPC and barcodes with the cam... dependencies.
Also try a Google search for your issue and include the Samsung Members forum in that search. Solutions can sometimes be found there.
*I use ApkExport to make copies of all my apps and updates. It has saved me more then once.
Get a .5tb OTG flash stick to do "dirty" critical data backups and restores for your internal memory. Keep at least 2 additional hdd copies as well that are physically/electronically isolated from each other and the PC to avoid data loss.
**it's trial and error until you get the hang of it.
