Any good custom ROM for a Galaxy Tab 10.1? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings, this is my first post here.
So, I just found a dust-covered GT-P7500 running Android 4, and I kinda wanted to revive it for something. So I just followed the manual, installing twrp and stuffs etc, but I have only 1 problem: A stable ROM.
I have tried the AOSP 7.1 with Gapps but it became unusable when popups saying "google play services keeps crashing" keeps coming up every 15 seconds or literally every app I open. And it also suffered massive amount of lags, app crash etc. I have tried to combat with no-google by downloading f-droid and install some stuffs I use on a daily basis, but the annoying crash notifications are just not worth it.
Is there any good custom ROM for my tablet? Preferably Android <= 7.0. Thanks in advance.

Hello, did you try without any gapps ?
Mine runs very stable with nogapps AOSP 7.1.2.
I don't even remember when I last updated it...
I only use it for web browsing. I installed decatf chromium from:

[Q] Chromium OS vs Android

Not to sure if anyone has heard of Hexxeh before but here is a short wiki descript regarding Chromium OS builds: "By May 2010, compiled versions of the work-in-progress source code had been downloaded from the Internet more than a million times. The most popular version was created by Liam McLoughlin, a 17-year-old college student in Manchester, England, posting under the name "Hexxeh". McLoughlin's builds boot from a USB memory stick and included features that Google engineers had not yet implemented, such as support for the Java programming language"
Anyhow several Google videos show that he has successfully managed to boot one of his Chromium OS builds called "Flow" on a tablet. And was wondering if anyone has thought about doing this.
His main website: http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/
I've used Flow on a laptop. Not very useful on a tablet - it's basically just a back end for a web browser, with no (well, minimal) apps. Useful for giving to the kids to play web games without breaking your system. However, using the Android OS built for tablets you get access to all the apps.
Looks like someone is working on it!

[MOD][XPOSED][4.4+][ICS][JB][KK][LP][MM][N][O][N][P] No Play Games 1.0

Yes, it works on Pie too! ™
Requirements
Android 4.0 or higher.
Xposed
A recent version of Google Play Services.
Any ROM (the module hooks into Google Play Services).
You do not have installed and do not want to install Google Play Games.
Description
I don't have Google Play Games installed, and I don't want to install it. Yet more and more games beg for it.
This module makes the begging stop. You won't see a prompt for Google Play Games anymore.
Note that this module has no UI. Just enable and disable it as needed.
Note that if you are an XPrivacyLua user, there is a XPrivacyLua hook named GMS.NoPlayGames that implements the same functionality as this module. You can download the hook directly from XPrivacyLua Pro's hook download pane. If you use the XPrivacyLua hook, do NOT use this module at the same time.
EdXposed users: Note that Google Play Services (com.google.android.gms) must be whitelisted (or not blacklisted) for this module to work. Doing so will enable Xposed for Google Play Services and will prevent passing SafetyNet.

That's the whole point: you don't.
This module is for people that do not want the Play Games features.
All the games I know of will run happily without Play Games installed. The module just removes the nagging.
I've clarified the description, thanks for the feedback.

Can't it be bypassed ? So we still can log in.
I like this module as indeed some games constantly force you to login but I do play some games which don't nag me to but I play the after login, so can it be possible to make exceptions for some or not possible at all?
@Fif_
awesome mod, works on HTC One M9 (MM)
I was looking for module like this! Thank you!
But.... Do you think you could add possibility to choose wich game can/cannot login g-play?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure how to do this.
I currently just block the Install/Upgrade dialog (because I'm tired of being asked to install it when I don't want to).
If you have Google Play Games installed, then it's not being interfered with beyond blocking that dialog. Login into Play Games will still work as usually.
Plus technically, I'm not sure how I could extract the game that invoked Google Play Games from the method I hook into.
Sorry, it doesn't sound like it's going to work, but I'm happy to hear any further input you may have.

You will still be able to login into Google Play Games from your game, if you have Play Games installed.
Only the install/upgrade dialog is suppressed.

I already replied to a very similar question, but for your benefit:
You will still be able to login into Google Play Games from your game, if you have Play Games installed.
Only the install/upgrade dialog is suppressed.
Then my idea isn't important. I'm happy without nag screen + g-play functionality.
*** Edit
Is not working right way
Nag screen don't appear but game autologin to cloud using default account. I thought that it will block login to cloud if i don't want login.
Tested on Xperia Z3 Compact LP 5.1.1 and No Play Games v0.2
Didn't work for me. I have the Google play services version that you said works. Attached is my xposed log.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you.
Were you logged in for that particular game before you installed and activated No Play Games?
Can you log out from Play Games for that game?
Once logged out, does No Play Games work?
I'm only targeting the "Install Play Games" nag dialog in the module, and did not investigate what would happen in case you had Play Games installed...

From the log files, it looks like you have GMS v8703030.
I've only claimed to support v8703436.
Is there any chance you can upgrade GMS?
If you cannot or don't want to upgrade GMS, I'll need a copy of your PrebuildGmsCore.apk.
It generally sits under /system/priv-app/PrebuiltGmsCore/PrebuiltGmsCore.apk.
Didn't work for me. Nag screen still appears
Tested on: Huawei Y635 with KK 4.4.4, Google Play Services 8.7.03 (2645110-034) and No Play Games v0.3.

Would you mind sending the Xposed log?
I think in my case it's because I have dissabled the resource hooks to work with EMUI.

No, this is not the problem, this module does not use any resource hooks.
You have an older Play Services than what I've test with, from your log you have v 8703034, I only claim to support 8703436 and 8703438.
I have another report of v 8703030 not working (see post #12).
For me to fix that issue, I'd need a copy of your PrebuiltGmsCore.apk.
You should be able to find this file under /system/priv-app/PrebuiltGmsCore/PrebuiltGmsCore.apk.
On a separate note, your Xposed log file contains lots of other errors that are not caused by NoPlayGames.
The AppSettings module seems not to be very happy either...

Please note that all these versions (8703034, 8703436, 8703438 and 8703030) are the same (Google Play services 8.7.03). The diferences between all of these versions are the android version and the screen DPI:
Code:
To figure out the right version of Google Play services for your Android device, download Play Services info or go to Settings -> Apps -> Google Play services, and look at the last 3 numbers in the parentheses. You'll see something like -XYZ where:
* X defines Android version:
0 for Android <5.0
2 for Android 5.0 and 5.1 starting with Play Services v8
4 for Android 5.0 and 5.1 before Play Services v8, Android >= 6.0 after
7 for Android 5.0
8 for Android TV
* Y defines CPU architecture:
1 for armeabi
3 for armeabi-v7a
4 for arm64-v8a
7 for x86
* Z defines DPI:
0 for universal
2 for 160
4 for 240
6 for 320
8 for 480
Notes:
It seems that -7YZ builds became -4YZ with Google Play services v6.5. If you were on -7YZ before, you should now install -4YZ.
It seems that -4YZ builds got split into -2YZ for Lollipop and -4YZ for Marshmallow with Google Play services v8. If you were on -4YZ before, you should now install -2YZ in Lollipop and -4YZ in Marshmallow.
Looks like -8YZ builds are for Android TV.
Examples:
-014 for Android <5.0 armeabi CPU 240 DPI device
-438 for Android 6.0+ armeabi-v7a CPU 480 DPI device
-876 for Android TV x86 CPU 320 DPI device

Thanks, that was helpful.
Unfortunately, the KitKat and earlier versions of GMS (so the -0XX versions of GMS) have a very different way of invoking Play Games.
I found a version 8.7.01-0XX version of GMS of the interwebs, and the way to call Play Games is very different. There is no com.google.android.gms.games package, and I cannot find any trace of it anywhere.
So it sounds like this module is only compatible with LP and MM. KK and earlier users are left out in the cold.
I'll update the module description.
If we want to add KK and earlier compatibility, I may need help understanding how apps are calling this dialog.

Google releases Chrome Canary for Android

Google has just released Chrome Canary for Android. Chrome Canary is the cutting edge version of the Chrome web browser by Google which has just been available for desktop devices previously.
Chrome users on Android who wanted to run development versions of the web browser had to use the beta or developer edition of Chrome for that until now.
The release of Chrome Canary for Android changes that as it makes available the most cutting edge but also the least stable version of Chrome.
The Google Play store listing of Chrome Canary lists the release as unstable. If you read on, you will notice further warnings. In particular, that the release has not been tested, and that it may be unstable, or fail to run at times.
Chrome Canary is the first version of Chrome that receives improvements and changes. These are then carried over to the Dev version of Chrome, then Beta, and finally to the Stable release version of the browser.
This means that it is ideal for enthusiasts, developers, and anyone else interested in running the most up to date version of Google Chrome on Android. Developers can test sites or applications with Chrome Canary earlier now than before, as Canary gets new feature additions and improvements before the Dev build.
The Chrome Canary page does not list compatibility information, only that it varies with devices. The browser installed fine on a Android 5.1.1 device.
Developers and enthusiasts can install Chrome Canary for Android next to other Chrome versions for Android. In fact, it is possible to install all four Chrome version -- Stable, Beta, Dev and Canary -- on the same device and use them independently of each other.

I was surfing the internet and downloaded chrome canary apk from here and these unstable versions are very tricky and could break down anytime.

[AOSP webview] vs [Google webview]

Hi..
im so curious about this, what is the difference between:
1. AOSP Webview and Google Webview?
2. What are the advantages of them?
3. Which one is better (or suggest) to using in custom roms nougat?
i noticed, mostly all custom roms preinstalled with AOSP webview (as you can see it in dev. options on "webview implementation".) but once we donloaded google/android system webview in playstore it automatically replaced the AOSP webview with Google one. and theres no option to switch or choose between them.
4. does the Dev's or AOSP webview will always be updated?
(since google webview always does within playstore)
If anyone have ideas about them, a bit of explanations which one should i pick on custom rom, i would be much appreciated, and im sure people would like to know also, thanks a lot!
It honestly depends on the developers to update the WebView implementation themselves. The difference comes in that ROMs ship Chromiums implementation instead of Chromes meaning that we lack the proprietary stuff shipped in Google's standard WebView. You will also notice that Chrome can provide WebView features too. Often Canary is the best route to take on this as it provides the latest implementation of WebView, and in my experience, has been more than stable (WebView at least, the browser isn't excactly a joy)
I've found Google Webview to be more stable than some ROM's builds of AOSP Webview. If you notice apps using that little web browser within apps crashing more often than normal switch it.
I prefer the Android Web Viewer because its less invasive. MHO They may crash more because of google play's aggressiveness as an intrusive APP

ROM advice request

Hi, I have an old GT-i9300 phone that I was going to lend to someone going on holiday. They wanted a phone that they would not be worried about if it grew legs and walked off, so old and slow was fine.
They wanted to use it for:
google maps,
google translate,
google photos,
gmail,
chrome
And all was going well until i was testing google maps and after a few days i started getting annoying popups informing me that android 4.3 or older are no longer supported. And then said person requested support for a pile of other apps.
So I have no choice but to install a custom rom as android 8 or higher is now required.
I have come here seeking your wisdom and knowledge in finding a custom rom for android 8 or later that is stable enough for daily use, has working wifi, NFC, data roaming and camera.
Please help

ive tried a couple of roms in the past days. they all have some kind of little issues. especially the higher android versions from 8-12 are quite buggy.
what i can recommend is:
1. resurrection remix 5.8.5 android 7: https://sourceforge.net/projects/resurrectionremix/files/i9300/ and https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-7-1-2_r2-i9300-ressurrection-remix-n-5-8-3-official.3270121/ (for reference)
2. lineage os 14.1 android 7 by mibo: https://github.com/Mibo5354/i9300_builds/releases
this one i tried today and it looks to be the best overall one so far:
3. lineage os 16.1 android 9: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-16-0-by-team-infusion-beta-20-08-19.3940142/
this one may also be a good one:
