Question Looking for some help attaching a magsafe magnet to the s23u - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

I'm going to be using dbrands case w/skin there's no question there for me, so with that I decided to find a magnet that I can put on the back of the phone that will use magsafe accessories.
I found this, link and while I'm not fan of anker I know it's a good brand. I read the questions and reviews and it does work on samsung s22 so I assume it will work on the s23u as well. Now for my question, I need to find where the coil is in the s23u so I can stick the magnet in the best location. So far I found these pics (see attached) of a case designed for s23u that has the magsafe in the case and it claims it's location is perfect but can anyone tell me if that's true or a better guide or teardown where the coil is?

Spens don't like magnets. I would avoid that.

Then why did samsung launch this official magnetic gadget case for the s23u ultra that is clearlya magsafe ripoff?

Google it. One way to find out for sure...

I think the camera bump would interfere with anything you would attach to the magsafe ring?

There are MANY cases with it built-in so it should work on the back of the phone itself.

I've already got a case I'm going to use and that isn't changing otherwise I would have just bought a magsafe case.
Also I think I found the coil, I think. In the teardown skin for the s23u on dbrands site (which I believe is accurate). I think the side of the coil is where that one cable is curved where I drew the red arrow

Samsung gadget case is not Magnetic , it attaches accessories by some locking mechanism, & yes magnets interfere with Spen untill you gen a magnetic sheilded case like UAG or pitaka

How does the interference manifest? I have a basic Spigen clear rubber case with magsafe and have yet to experience any S-pen problem.

It's not the magsafe case that causes issues, it's when you attach certain Magsafe accessories that the issue arises.

I have 3 magsafe accessories using a Mous case and none of them seem to affect my s-pen. One of them is an Anker 633 powerbank and it still doesn't affect it even while charging from it.

video
I found this video and i think I can find a magnet and accessories that don't affect the spen pretty easily especially with Amazon's easy returns.
The matter of my original question still stands. How can I find the optimal place to put my magnet? Is there any teardown that shows the location of the coil in the s23u?

You can see where the charging coil is in Jerry's video:
It's basically dead center

Get whatever case you ideally want, attach ESR halolock ring to the back of the case and done. Very easy to align and attach.
The ring has the strongest connection amongst all rings and cases.
If you don't want to attach a halolock you could buy a case you like with a ring built into it from ESR, Spigen and a bunch of others.
The spen interference is real but it's not because of the ring or the case. It's when you attach a magsafe power bank above a certain magnetic strength and try to use the pen at the same time. Only in this setup will it skip line where the magnetism is strongest. Detach the power bank and pen works without issue.

Will the Sony cover stand for the Z2 fit on the Z?

Was looking for a new case for my XTZ.
It's hard to find one that's either not ugly or super thick.
This one for the XTZ2 would be perfect, and not too expensive as well.

Using a XTZ2 case for a XTZ may or may not work, it would be a gamble because the XTZ2 is slightly thinner than the XTZ. If you can purchase from Amazon.com, a Poetic Slimline Case for the XTZ would be a good choice.
I considered the poetic slimline case but it's similar to the one I have (Labato), which is a bit flimsy. Also the cover doesn't really stay in position so the screen on/off doesn't work.
The Incipio Lexington hard case seems sturdy but would make the tablet feel a bit too thick.
Hoping that someone with an XTZ has tried any snap on case for the XTZ2 and would know how it would fit.

I believe you will find a noticeable difference of quality when comparing Poetic's products to Labato's.

Ok,checked out the master list of all accessories thread. The problem I have with the poetic case is the issue with it not being properly designed to accomodate the charging flap.
So hard to find a decent case. Most cases make the tablet quite thick which defeats the purpose of having a thin tablet.
The Roxfit case needs tape and from where I am it costs about 60 usd which is around the same price as the Sony one for the Z2.

latest version of Poetic case has hole for charging cable/flap.
Unfortunately the Z tablet doesn't fit into the Style Cover Stand SCR12 properly. I'm thinking about customizing the cover to make it fit, I just need some drilling tools.

Hi hemicz,
Thanks for that. Also everyone else for replying.
I did a bit of a test by putting in a few pieces of paper into my existing case to see if a slightly thicker tablet would fit in it.
It didn't fit. So, together with confirmation from you I think I'll just get the Roxfit book case because of it's thinness.
Will probably end up using the Tablet until the Z3 comes out.
Cheers.

Lightest weight case?

What is the lightest weight case available?
No one here has a case that they have found that doesn't add a little weight. Looking for light case
Try the Moko lightweight smart case or a Poetic Slimline Series. I make no specific claims of them being the "lightest".
Taking a look at Amazon and watching the shipping weight numbers gives one a rough idea of the weight of the cases.

The Poetic Slimline is really thin and light, but I've gone through two of them with different magnet problems. The first one, the magnet wasn't strong enough to keep the "lid" closed and the second one the magnets the lid attached to just up and fell out. So I can't say I would recommend the Poetic at this point.

Understandable. At the same time what I've found is that cases with strong magnets for closure can cause problems when the flap is flipped all the way around in terms of interference with S-Pen function in some areas of the screen.
Double edged sword I guess but thinking back to when I had a Mako version of the case yes I agree the magnets are too weak there too.
I'm currently using the Samsung cover because I wanted the keyboard and it it's working great, to me out doesn't add that much weight nor is it to bulky as well, the zagg one was a tad lighter but I think the Samsung one felt more comfortable

3rd Party Cases that don't interfere with the S-Pen

Hello,
I just ordered a tab s4 and have been looking for a suitable case that has a flip style cover which does not interfere with the S-Pen's magnetic field.
I know that I can just buy Samsung's Book Cover, but it is expensive compared to other cases I have seen for the tab s4.
I haven't been able to find much info about which 3rd-party covers with magnets are good and which covers are harmful for S-Pen's magnetic field.
I would like to know if anyone here who has been using a 3rd-party flip cover for a longer period of time can provide their experience with their cover and the S-Pen.
The issue that I am taking about consists of cases with magnets causing the S-Pen to not work in some parts of the screen (probably close to where the case's magnet is).
This can lead to dead spots where the S-Pen either doesn't work or its pressure sensitivity is off. I'm not sure whether the issue is permanent or temporary.
It seems like a good test for this issue would be to write all over the screen with the S-Pen and see if anything is off.
Thank you in advance,
wis123

From what I researched this was a problem on the S3. That's what made me buy the S4.
I have not read people complaining about it on the S4.
Anyway, I'm receiving a poetic folio case in the next weeks and will report after some use.
However, if I have any problem I will use my warranty.
Yes, magnetic cover may interfer with the S-Pen, there was a Spigen case that had that issue, they made changes to make it don't interfer with the S-Pen but I can't find it now, maybe still have some issues
I got this one from Spigen without magnet and it is really good

What Case is everyone going with for their S20 Ultra?

Just wanting to see what all cases everyone is getting for their S20 Ultra. I am debating on getting the UAG Monarch Series case again. Their really good cases and not bulky at all.
I've preordered the Samsung Protective Standing Cover along with the phone.
I've also ordered a Zizo Bolt.
I used to like UAG Monarch, UAG Plasma and Otterbox Symmetry cases, but they offer very little drop protection at the bottom lip, which is loose.
Also thinking of getting the Speck Presidio Grip and Gear4 Battersea.
I work in a factory environment so defender/whitestone all the way...
I'm trying to find one that will a) have built-in magnets for magnetic mounting (want them built-in so there's no bulge from inserting a flat one between the case and the phone so it lies flat on it's back), and b) have those magnets in a place where it minimizes disruption to wireless charging. The only one I was able to find for my S9 was by Pitaka (with their own magnetic mount, which makes sense since the magnets are in a non-standard location), but the case had an issue where the top/bottom/side lips wouldn't extend past the front face to protect the screen from lying flat on it's front on a desk.

Nice- thanks!
Pitaka, since many years, for day to day / office, dBrand Grip case (with custom pitaka plates under the back sticker) as a self made 'Pitaka pro' for days with higher demand for protection.
Using Pitaka in the car daily, so I want that option ti stick it to my magnetic Qi charger in the car.
Latercase for me. Probably the DBrand case and skin also
I'll go with the Spigen Neo Hybrid. Slim enough not to be embarrassing, but offers drop protection. Gone are the days of OB Defender, UAG, etc. Second option would be the SupCase Unicorn Beetle.
I also buy the QuadLock case for the Summer, to use with my bike.
Black leather offical from their site. Although most of the time I don't use a case even though I should. But given the hefty price tag it probably will be wise to keep it on

The (Samsung) black leather case was nice from the S10+ series. Got an open box from Best Buy for $29 in perfect condition although the package looked like Flossy opened it! LOL. The silicone IMO was junk!
The rugged (Samsung) case is great, the kickstand comes in handy. I have one on my S10 5G and Note 10+ and will be picking one up for the S20U.
I may splurge and get the Pitaka for the S20U as the pics I've seen with the phone in it just look plain sick!
I'm gonna start with the Caseology Parallax and Spigen Neo Hybrid for now. Got them both on the way!
Spigen Rugged Armor, already in hand lol
Been using S-view cover on N10+ since September, it does great screen protection job, don't want anything else for my S20 Ultra. Scratch protection 24/7 and a piece of mind when the phone is being put into or taken out of jacket or pant's pockets. My N+10 screen still has a 'mint' looks even after 6 months of use w/o any protective film, I peeled that off right after getting it.

Well, when I was writing my previous post I just assumed that they will have S-view case for S20s, most Samsung phones have it and now I found it, they don't list the price yet:

Gone for the grey samsung case with the stand option , abit dull but it protects the phone , second choice would be a case from spigen

Got my shipping notification today as well. Ordered the MagEZ and dashboard mount wireless charger. Are you in the US? How long do you think it will take to deliver?
Shipping notice on DHL site updated w Tuesday (4/7) delivery now.
They're really quick with shipping. Have ordered several of their products. I'm in Canada, my case should come this week.
When did you order?
I ordered Monday night and the web site indicated that it would ship the next day.
Here it is Thursday afternoon and I have not received any notification. Clicking on the order link in the original email just shows the same thing: order received. Do they ship from China?
Thinking of cancelling TBH.
Yes they ship from China. You should get something soon. But reach out to their support team in case. They're very responsive and helpful usually.

Funny, just after dinner I got an email with shipping notice.
I have a tracking number with an origin a state away (NJ), USPS first class package.
Should arrive in a few days.
I want to see what all the hype is about.
I got the magnetic one. I do have magnetic vent mounts from my excellent Evutec cases. I wish they made Samsung cases, by far they are my favorite.
Got my carbon fiber look on too!

I haven't noticed any issues so far!
I am waiting for carrier to pickup. Got tracking number ,but not picked up yet
So got my MagEZ and the wireless charger dash mount. Did not expect the metal plates to be so low on the phone body - I guess that's how they don't block the wireless charging coil.
I'm actually more disappointed in the lack of screen coverage. The sides of the phone are the most exposed in this case then any other case I've tried but worst is the lack of lip on the top of bottom. On every other case I've tried, there is at least some gap when I turn it face down on the table - with this case on, this is pretty much laying down flush on the screen itself.
Got my MagEZ today, finally nearly two weeks after ordering. USPS isn't the greatest for sure!
It's a good case. Definitely NOT for protection. I mean it will provide more protection than nothing. In hand it feels nice. The presentation is also good. As in you can tell it's not an Otterbox!
If one want's thinner they'd have to skin their phone. There's something about a naked phone, dunno, the edges feel weird like I'm going to drop it in an instant. It's weird because before the days of non removable batteries it actually didn't feel "wrong" rocking a naked phone...

So that is a latercase, no Pitaka with metal plates (and still wirelessly charging).
I like the latercases rim being bent upwards but they are missing the metal plates.
Also, I do not like the manufacturers actions around Pitaka and would therefore, personally, not buy from them. But that is my personal opinion only.

Agreed. Latercase straight up ripped Pitaka off and just because he has a bigger audience felt he could get away with it.
I got the Pitaka Mag case as well. This is my 3rd Pitaka case. Had this on my s8 and s10 before. This model seems to fit lower on the sides than previous models and the cutout for the charging port is wide open this year. Not sure why. This is still my favorite case because it's strong, super thin, and metal plates for car mount.

It's open at the bottom because to close it there would be a very thin strip that would be rather flimsy. Still far better than having the entire bottom open.
My only gripe about this case is how hard it is to take off! But once it's on, it's very solid and doesn't feel like it's peeling away or falling off when you grab the edges like most thin TPU style cases.
I have to say that it is perfect, IMO. I am using Pitaka since the S8 and they are always in a class of their own. I tried like 100 cases over the years and I have settled to this:
- Pitaka Mag Case for daily, normal use. This is the best for me.
- "Self made" Pitaka Pro case (more sturdy) using a dbrand grip case and placing the Pitaka metal plates in the right places under the back skin, salvaged from an old Pitaka case (destructive). This is the sturdy case, still offering magnetic attachment and wireless charging.

Good idea! I wish they would make the procase for Galaxy phones. I too use the MagEz case as my daily and now using the Ringke Fusion X as my rugged case when needed. Last year I tried those O shaped metal rings attached to the back of a Tech 21 but it still didn't quite line up with the car mount. I thought about getting the plates from a previous case but luckily been able to resell them for close to 50% value.
