I know that I must wear a condom while surfing the net and installing apps to keep safe but is Google.Play the only safe place to visit for Android Apps?
Or are there other good, and safe places to download free and paid for apps?
I only ask as an app I bought from the Android Market, which changed to Google.Play is no longer on the site. However the app can be found in a place called AndroidPit. I can't find any reviews of this site and I don't know if I can trust them with my credit card details.
google play is the safest and cant tell about other "unofficial" alternatives,
but to browse apps appbrain is good but when you want to download something it forwards you to google play.. there is some plugin for appbrain which enables web download but i never tried it cause i m happy with google play
1mobile.com is a decent site, you can download the vast majority of free apps. Doesn't have any paid apps though. If you're in the US, Amazon App Store is probably a reasonable alternative.

I do not recommend market alternative ,if you want to play safe applications.
Google Play at least when it is discovered malware is deleted (even remotely).
Alternative market of this assurance level do not have it ..
Actually getjar.com is good, its how I get tapatalk free and its a reputable site so should be safe

if you still have the direct link to your paid app, there is a high chance it is still available in the market, even if the developer and google says other wise!
I had a similar situation for an app called pzizz which was apparently removed from the market due to changes in the company that makes it,
neither the new management nor google told me it still exists,
I managed to download it though by accessing the market from my pc and downloading it.
this could happen only if
you have the original link of the paid app ( you could not find the app by searching or browsing google play, you must have the original link)
you purchased the app before it is removed, if you didnt, the direct link for the app would not work, only if you purchased the app and signed in by the account in which the app was purchased you would be able to see the app
requesting to download the app from a computer, you cant do this directly from your phone and further when it is downloaded it will not be linked to the market

I saw your post and I had to reply. I worked for Aptoide, which is an independent android marketplace and they do a screening to the apps (at least the ones in their "apps" repository) so that they're free of malware. They were thinking of launching paid apps soon, but for now you have a lot of free apps that are safe to download.
Try it, maybe you'll be surprised!

Ok, I am looking at an online Android/iPhone app builder. They either offer the option to build one for free with unlimited downloads or you can pay yearly with different tiers for different download limits. The difference being that the free one has ads.
Anyways, when asked about just creating the app with their site, then hosting it on your own server and having everyone download it from there instead of paying the yearly fees, the site owner made this statement.

Is this true? I don't see how each new device that comes out will require an update in your app.
Also, as stated, if you pay the yearly fee for the lowest amount of downloads, I assume they can only track downloads from Google Play or the Apple app store. I don't see any way they can track downloads from my own server hosting the .apk file. Anyone have any insight on this to correct me if I'm wrong?
For the record, I'm just looking to develop an app to play my Shoutcast Streaming audio station. I make no profit on the station, so have no capital to spend over $1K a year to have an Android and iPhone app. I mainly want to give it to my friends, and make it available to anyone who visits my Website. I really like the design that I did with this site, and am willing to pay something for it, just not worth $1K./year....

Have you tried installing the official Android Software Development Kit on your computer, and making the app yourself? You don't need to use an online service, and you choose exactly what gets compiled into the apk (ads, Google analytics, etc.).

I actually do have the SDK installed, and am looking into what it takes to make my own app. But, don't I have to know xml and Java to create apps using the SDK?
You do need to know those two languages.

Yes, it's kind of like Appinventor, all visual, just assemble the parts and stuff.
It's nice, just kinda pricey. I once posted the job on freelancer.com and got offers for about as much as this company is asking, and with freelancer I would have owned the app afterwards.
But, again, it's kinda hard to foot the bill when it's a non profit app.

I think he means every time Google releases an update to Android (updated OS, not new device). So, for example, you build your app to run on Jelly Bean. But when Key Lime Pie comes out, your app may not work as expected on those devices running KLP. Then, you'd have to pay them to recompile your app with updated binaries, or risk losing market share.
If your app is really simple and would run fine on Android 2.2 and up, then that "purchase new binary" thing is not applicable.
But, hell, if you're willing to learn XML & Java... go for it!
I really want to use the ''play from cloud'' feature, so I don't fill up my whole sd card with music.
If I use US Proxy to log in, and download the software, am I good to go without messing around with proxy/vpn anymore?
(Music app is international, no need to set up vpn on phone I think)

What country are you trying to use Google Music from? If you use a U.S. based proxy to download the Google Music Manager software and set it up you should be good to go and shouldn't need the proxy after everything has been initially setup. I would recommend checking out this guide on how to setup Google Music outside the U.S. http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/19/how-to-use-google-music-from-anywhere-yes-outside-of-the-unit/. Also Google has expanded its list of Google Music supported countries to include Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, and United Kingdom. Let me know if you still have questions.

Is this legal? What I mean by that is this against google tos?
Also, using vpn/proxy to log in, is it safe to log in with my google account? Should I change password afterwards?

As far as legality is concerned I must disclaim that I am not a lawyer. Doing this is not illegal but it may violate Google's Terms of Service (I have no read the full Terms of Service) but they are unlikely do anything about it as many people who want to use Google Music outside the countries that are officially supported use this method. Regarding your question about is it safe to login with your Google account, there is always some amount of risk when using a proxy but overall you should be ok when using this method and shouldn't need to change your password after. You can change your password after if it makes you feel more secure, I always respect when people have privacy concerns . Also sorry for not getting back to you sooner I was out with my family for the day.

That's alright. I'm really unsure if I want to do this, I don't think security will be a very big problem (using https) + changing password before and after. Although will I be able to use google music on my phone without vpn? Can I upload music without proxy after this? Only thing keeping me away is if its against google tos

Once you set this up then you don't have to worry about using the proxy anymore, and don't need to setup a proxy on your phone. Yes, you can upload music without the proxy after the proxy is just for initial setup. For the terms of service I just did a quick look and yes technically it does violate the Google terms of service for Play Services such as Google Music. I was thinking.. If I were to take a trip to one of those countries Google Play Music is available, would I manage to ''unlock'' the service there? Also would it violate TOS then?

If you singed into your Google account while connected to a internet network in one of those countries then yes it should unlock it and you should be able to use it. And that should not violate the Terms of Service as you would be in one the countries where the service is officially supported which is acceptable use :good:.

My brother are in USA, and he install teamviewer in his laptop, I connect to this laptop trought teamviewer and browse "http://play.google.com/music", and receive the message "Google Play Music are avaialable in certain countries...."

Google Play is limited to Apps & Books in my country (as you guys know unlike iTunes you cannot change your country w/ your Google Account)
So I have been using an old Google Apps account (admin'd by my friend) + strongVPN + Entropay credit card -- yesterday 6-Feb-2014 I suddenly lost access to Play Music even w/ VPN on. I contacted my friend and he did not do anything to our Google Apps account. So it seems Google switched us to Asia/Philippines (?). I cleared payment methods on this and logged out.
I connected to VPN (USA server) on my device, created a new google account, and I got access back but now, when I add an Entropay VCC it is not working. I get an error and the transaction is canceled - I have tried the MSFT zip code trick, the Entropay zip code trick and both are not working
So right now I am stumped. I can upload music & stream to iOS/Android via the Play Music App but cannot purchase content.

I use Hola VPN to simulate being in Hong Kong with UFC Fight Pass so I can view FS1 cards live, I'm in the states so I can't test Netflix but it's worked for me. Plus it's completely free

Mmm not sure why, but ExpressVPN is working fine at my end. I use the USA - Dallas - 2 server and it works fine with US Netflix. I also used the Brazil - 2 server, however, it was working quite slow. Have you tried Hola? It is free and it works with Netflix. But I'm not sure if you'll like its interface. Maybe you can just get the free trial of Express and try near by server to brazil to see if you can unblock Neflix's Brazilian library. I've also heard that the Ireland library has the most titles at the moment.
maybe i just missed but windscribe works really good with Windflix servers.
It is 1 usd for any country and 1 usd for unlimited bandwith so for 2 usd you're good to go.

how can i install an app that is only available for some countries (i have tried the with VPN and it doesn't work). It is a medical app and i need it for my insulin sensor level reader.
it can be found on UK and France app store. On my store it cant even be seen. It is called "FreeStyle LibreLink". If someone can provide me the apk it would be great.

thank you for your help. I have manged to install the app but when i am trying to open it i am being redirected to Play Store and it is blocking the application somehow.. any idea how to pass this? I have installed a VPN but i am getting the same issue.

You need to find the app for your specific country. I have the swedish one.
However the app is not compatible with the Pixel 4s new NFC chip. I managed to sideload the swedish app and am not getting the error message. I still can't read the sensor 9 times out of 10 tho. So I am hoping for an update, either from abott or google.
Came to XDA to see if they might have a patch or mod etc.
Not certain relevant but I assume you are not granting "location" access on your phone to that app (or google for that matter)? 2nd - Assuming that you are connected via vpn to whatever Country the app communicates with (assuming it needs to even talk to a remote computer/service to work), if you are being directed to the play store is the app out of date perhaps and creator is requiring an update?
