Tango and Fring both die if I try to video chat with them.
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-review
This review of the Atrix mentions video chatting. What are they talking about? How did they do it?
And is there something that will let me video chat with iPhone 4s?
for now QIK seems to work between my girlfriend's atrix and my evo.
TANGO was the only way to video call an iphone, but I'd expect a software fix too.
Isn't there a Qik on the iPhone?
i am pretty upset about this too. went out and bought the wife an iPhone 4 lastnight and 2 weeks ago got myself an atrix. come to find out this isnt possible.
i wish there was a simple hack to allow facetime on the Atrix or something.. this serious sucks.
This is a lil annoying I've been carrying around my iphone 4 with me as well to fill my non video chat void.
Qik now supports iphone (see qik.com/video/100699 and qik.com/phones). Let us know if you can video chat Atrix to iphone with it. I'd be curious to know that it works okay. (Also, Skype bought Qik recently.)

Qik seems to be the best option right now and it did have an Iphone client at one point.
Until Skype opens up video calls on the android platform, not much can be done.
This purely sux. My wife has iphone 4 and I sold my iphone 4 to get atrix. Now I cannot do video at all.

nvm i didnt read
yeah.. i'm waiting for something to happen to this too. I heard the Tango owners are workign on .. :T
ohnoez! muh fays timzes is borked!!!11!1!!111juan!!
>insert threads to say people are returning the atrix cause it cant video chat yet<
but seriously, people this phone isnt even a month old yet. do you think apps just magically work? Developers have to take time to bugfix per device. I am sure Tango is diligently working on a fix. As for now I qik'd with a buddy on an evo and plan on testing it with an iphone tmw.
Yahoo
Yahoo Messenger supports video chat (with iPhones).
The problem with the android client is lack of support for front facing camera.. which sorta defeats the purpose, I suppose.
That is, unless I am missing something, of course.
Edit:
Apparently if you open the camera app and change it to front facing, you can do front facing video calls.
i was thinking of getting the atrix because of the front cam. i would be disappointed to find out that yahoo im video didnt work. i hope yahoo im gets updated for the atrix.
So Qik Plus was released for iPhone. It's $2.99 on app store.
Articles around the net say the Qik for Atrix should work with Qik Plus for iPhone. But when I dial my fiancees iPhone it says we have incompatible versions. Both are most recent version.
Her phone is on iOS 4.2.1 not 4.3, wondering if that could be the issue. Otherwise I'm not sure what's up.

Personally, I'm using Tango on my Atrix to my girlfriend on an iPhone. Mostly, it works. Occasional audio dropouts, but usually pretty good.
Not sure why everyone's saying Tango doesn't work?
Because apple does facetime and there really is no standard for video chat, we will probably get to deal with these problems for a while.

I read the "requirements" for the app on iTunes and said it was compatible with iPhone, iPod, and iPad. So that probably means there isn't going to be cross-platform support

Is there anyone who can confirm this works? My fiancée has an iPhone 4 and I would gift her the app so we can actually video chat.
Maybe they will update to add compatibility with atrix because qik for atrix is still fairly new.
I downloaded Tango and it seems to be working ok. Sometimes one persons audio won't come through, but not bad for a free app.

Will the camera improve once we get the official 2.3.4 update?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Does your camera have a PROBLEM or is it just unsatisfactory?
The upgrade you're talking about hasn't improved camera quality. Some say it's worse, with a few minor improvements... but it's difficult to judge. What I'm confident about though is that it probably isn't going to dazzle anyone judging from the preliminary feedback. No one is ranting and raving about it unfortunately.
Agree, the camera does not produce very good pictures, mine are not focused, blury, dull etc., have not complained since it is not on top of my list but would be very happy if it could be improved, as it is at the moment not much use for taking acceptable pictures.
lol, NO ONE knows how much it will improve the camera or not, only Motorola does im sure, or testers. we have topics covering this. i have posted a topic about it with many pictures. we wont know how much the camera will be improved until the "real" release (OTA). the hongkong or whatever one isnt the official release. the people thinking the camera in that one is what it will look like in the OTA need to think again. There is a app called Camera 360 you should download and try, if you like it buy it. it improves the quality/color alot. if you put it on enhance or HDR mode.
The issue i have is the flash in the stock at, it doesnt capture at the right moment lol. with focus it think it does very well. also make you wipe it off well, it gets dirty easy i have noticed. when HTC releases the mytouch 4gslide i will most likely go to it cause its supposed to have a great camera, etc. as well as nokias N9 that looks great.
My pictures are just fine. This isn't an slr or even a point-n-shoot. It's a camera phone with a lens 3/16th of an inch in diameter.
First thing anyone should do with any phone is clean the lens before taking pictures. Grease and dirt from your hands will make pictures appear to be dull, out of focus, and blurry. My phone takes decent pictures. Could it be better? Yes. Is it good enough? Also a yes for a phone camera.

I wanted to say this, but my post count isn't high enough. I ASSUMED that people would know this. And oddly, I didn't have as much of an issue with needing to make sure the lens is clean on my last phone as I do with the Atrix. I wonder if it's because my last phone had the lens in the middle and the Atrix lens is at the edge?

I think the camera is much better than my iPhone. I can understand everyones complaints but after dragging the pictures to my comp they are much my h better to view. Also the video is awesome, not so my h when watching on the phone itself but after transfer to comp its amazing. I came to the Atrix from an iPhone 4. Generally, I love Android and everything about my Atrix, to the point where I even bought the hyper-expensive webtop thing (with the debian mod, of course). But the camera being better than the iPhone? I would say you're seeing through rose-colored glasses, but given how the Atrix takes pictures, tulip-colored glasses may be more appropriate.
Don't know what all the qq is about. I just shot 300 pictures of a vacation. Only a few bad apples.
My kids will be staying with the grandparents for a week and I wanted to know the best video chat solution with an iphone 4. G-chat had the best video quality but no sound. Yahoo had the best sound but I couldn't use my front facing camera. Skype didn't work but the only thing that worked was tango but it was extremely poor quality. Any suggestions?

well since 80% of the people who replied didn't read the OP when they said that Tango was bad quality (and thus NOT what they were looking for...)
I suggest Qik. I always felt it was more stable and the interface was better. However you will have to install the non-Atrix version ("Qik Video Connect" rather than "Qik for Atrix") if you want to use it between Android and iOS, and to do that you must be running Gingerbread (2.3.4) otherwise the front camera won't work.
If that doesn't work, try Fring. Otherwise, there aren't many other options.
My LTE camera does not seem on par with wut videos I have seen. My photos come out ok and video r not all that good, probably a defect? Or is that normal?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
not normal at all, my videos have all came out great so far. just to make sure check that its on highest quality, nothing is smudging the lence, and that you dont have super shaky hands. all settings to default
I have a similar experience. I am considering going into a sprint store to see a side by side comparison. I played with a One X and was very impressed with the camera, mine doesn't seem up to par with the One X.

I have seen a couple of videos on here where they were recorded in slow motion and those videos looked great, however, I have tried a few times and they always come out looking really bad. (grainy, and blurry). I have tried with all the settings left on auto and also setting things up manually as well (like white balance and ISO).
Is there settings that I am missing to make these videos look as good as they do while recording at normal speed?
Here is the link to the video I shot:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjcqQhUIJq0
Also does the camera not record in HD while doing Slow Motion?
I can't help you on making it look better but it doesn't record in HD. The ending resolution ends up being 768 x 432.

It's probably the light. I think the only reason it goes to HD on the youtube video is because the beginning part might be in HD. I still see the grainy lines on the youtube video and in the slow motion videos I shoot.

I think it's HD on YouTube because the user had to edit it on the computer. (Add music) so I think he saved it in a way that YouTube thought it was HD.
I've noticed that I have to edit files in order for YouTube to have a HD option even though the phone records in HD and saves it as a .MP4.

There is a camera setting. If you touch the "A" you will see the option
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE
Yeah, the camera does not do HD for slow motion, due to the significantly higher data rates the camera must sustain to do slow motion. It's essentially recording at 120fps or so, which is four times the speed it would record at otherwise. To record in HD, it would require four times the bandwidth and processing power that it does at normal speed.
I've had this phone since it came out and never knew it has that setting.
What is "HDR"?

There are other phones using android that CAN do slow motion HD recording. I assume that this is a software limitation on HTC's part rather than a hardware limitation as the camera on this phone is quite impressive to say the least. Even with my limited knowledge of the inner workings of the android software I would venture to guess that this can at least be brought to 720p slow motion recording. However a speedier SD card may be needed. Man I wish I knew how to dig into Android, I want this camera to be BEAST!
