Tango and Fring both die if I try to video chat with them.
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-review
This review of the Atrix mentions video chatting. What are they talking about? How did they do it?
And is there something that will let me video chat with iPhone 4s?
for now QIK seems to work between my girlfriend's atrix and my evo.
TANGO was the only way to video call an iphone, but I'd expect a software fix too.
Isn't there a Qik on the iPhone?
i am pretty upset about this too. went out and bought the wife an iPhone 4 lastnight and 2 weeks ago got myself an atrix. come to find out this isnt possible.
i wish there was a simple hack to allow facetime on the Atrix or something.. this serious sucks.
This is a lil annoying I've been carrying around my iphone 4 with me as well to fill my non video chat void.
Qik now supports iphone (see qik.com/video/100699 and qik.com/phones). Let us know if you can video chat Atrix to iphone with it. I'd be curious to know that it works okay. (Also, Skype bought Qik recently.)
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Qik seems to be the best option right now and it did have an Iphone client at one point.
Until Skype opens up video calls on the android platform, not much can be done.
This purely sux. My wife has iphone 4 and I sold my iphone 4 to get atrix. Now I cannot do video at all.

yeah.. i'm waiting for something to happen to this too. I heard the Tango owners are workign on .. :T
ohnoez! muh fays timzes is borked!!!11!1!!111juan!!
>insert threads to say people are returning the atrix cause it cant video chat yet<
but seriously, people this phone isnt even a month old yet. do you think apps just magically work? Developers have to take time to bugfix per device. I am sure Tango is diligently working on a fix. As for now I qik'd with a buddy on an evo and plan on testing it with an iphone tmw.
Yahoo
Yahoo Messenger supports video chat (with iPhones).
The problem with the android client is lack of support for front facing camera.. which sorta defeats the purpose, I suppose.
That is, unless I am missing something, of course.
Edit:
Apparently if you open the camera app and change it to front facing, you can do front facing video calls.
i was thinking of getting the atrix because of the front cam. i would be disappointed to find out that yahoo im video didnt work. i hope yahoo im gets updated for the atrix.
So Qik Plus was released for iPhone. It's $2.99 on app store.
Articles around the net say the Qik for Atrix should work with Qik Plus for iPhone. But when I dial my fiancees iPhone it says we have incompatible versions. Both are most recent version.
Her phone is on iOS 4.2.1 not 4.3, wondering if that could be the issue. Otherwise I'm not sure what's up.

Personally, I'm using Tango on my Atrix to my girlfriend on an iPhone. Mostly, it works. Occasional audio dropouts, but usually pretty good.
Not sure why everyone's saying Tango doesn't work?
Because apple does facetime and there really is no standard for video chat, we will probably get to deal with these problems for a while.

I read the "requirements" for the app on iTunes and said it was compatible with iPhone, iPod, and iPad. So that probably means there isn't going to be cross-platform support

Is there anyone who can confirm this works? My fiancée has an iPhone 4 and I would gift her the app so we can actually video chat.
Maybe they will update to add compatibility with atrix because qik for atrix is still fairly new.
I downloaded Tango and it seems to be working ok. Sometimes one persons audio won't come through, but not bad for a free app.

My Sprint salesman mentioned Google Talk wasn't working yet but would be fixed with an update sometime soon. Both my wife and I have the Evo 3D now, and she's interested in making sure we can video chat between them.
So if you have a video chat app working that you can recommend, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks!

I'll guess that would take having two cameras on the front instead of the back of the phone.
I'm for taking baby steps though. Just getting past audio-only to 2D video will be a major leap for my wife and I.
I've used Tango and it worked well. You can video chat with Android or iOS devices. Video quality was pretty good on my EVO 4G, but I haven't tested it yet on my 3D.
I use oovoo because that works on the PC as well so I can chat to non smartphone owning family members too

+1 Yes I found that out the first couple hours Sad becuase out of all of the other video chat apps (Fring, Tango, Qik, Google Talk) it worked the best over 3G, 4G and Wifi. Hopefully they will update soon. Has anyone tried Skype yet? Never played around with it because wife's Epic didn't have Froyo until recently and by that time had discovered ooVoo.
Personally I use the yahoo add on. It works great over 4g. No lag or studder at all and voice was superb. It also has ability to connect to anyone with a yahoo account I/e pc, mac, ect...

well since 80% of the people who replied didn't read the OP when they said that Tango was bad quality (and thus NOT what they were looking for...)
I suggest Qik. I always felt it was more stable and the interface was better. However you will have to install the non-Atrix version ("Qik Video Connect" rather than "Qik for Atrix") if you want to use it between Android and iOS, and to do that you must be running Gingerbread (2.3.4) otherwise the front camera won't work.
If that doesn't work, try Fring. Otherwise, there aren't many other options.
Hi, I just got a Photon "not Root" also I have the EVO 4G "Root", I want to use the Gtalk video chat but:
On the Photon I can't enable voice or video, On the EVO the video is sideways (known problem).
I installed on them Qik and:
On Photon the video is sideways. Is any setting i don know about it?
Before I Root Photon had any one Gtalk working fine?
try vtok
works well for google video calls
also tango seems to not have the sideways issue

When the Photon gets home I'll give it a try.
---------- Post added at 06:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:27 PM ----------
I hope we'll get straight on Gtalk,
Fring works well if you're interested in other options.
I have the same problem. I use GTalk w/video to see my daughter who lives 2,000 miles away, and was dissapointed to find that the Photon didn't have video capabilities. Vtok does work, but uses a lot of resources, and freezes up completely after 20-30 minutes. After it freezes, a hard boot is necessary. I've used it on every device I own/have owned (EVO 4G, EVO 3D, FLYER, SGT1) and the problem persists throughout. ROOT w/mods seems to be the only way GTalk w/video will work.

i use to use fring, but now ive gone over to tango. runs very well between iphones, ipads, tabs and such. it took them about 3 weeks after the launch of the photon to push a release to read the photons hardware correctly. send an email to the software support with your issue and they should launch a release that will make compatible with the photon.

Honestly, I think this is all VERY pathetic. Google needs to get its head out of its ass and fix google talk video for all of its latest android devices.
Clearly, the Photon has a front facing camera, but doesn't come with any software to use it out of the box. You have to go to the market and keep trying 3rd party software in the HOPE that it will work.
Personally, I think they should have fixed google talk video with the first update they rolled out.
I also have an iPad and it's a joke how easy Facetime works!
Wake up Google!
I don't know the way to go, I been testing almost every app for video chat and none one works as they should. :-(. Qik is a known sideways video problem. Vtok sound? Oh Good socks, and Gtalk we all know.

Same here. It's as though the Atrix isn't put in "speakerphone" mode. When I make an audio call and hold the phone to my ear and speak directly into the mic, my voice comes through clear. When I make a video call and hold the phone away from my face, my voice can't be hears at all.

Do you have an app that Auto- Kills apps running for a long time? If so add Skype to the exception list. these things can happen with like Skype, Facebook apps and such because they always run in the background in order for you to get notifications if someone is one or messages you or something.

I like Google hangouts personally.
Not the same as Skype but then again not owned by MS.
