Yahoo messenger - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Has anyone used Yahoo Messenger on the XDA? I have it installed and running, but can't connect to the Yahoo server. Any advice?

I have used YM (on the XDA in the UK on O2), you need to set it up using the proxy server.
It does work but the software itself seems to close itself, apart from sometimes getting offline messages, i didn't see any increased benefit over MSN messenger

Tim

tried the settings here in the Philippines.. but still it wont work!

It won't because that IP address is for a specific provider. Try searching at your providers website for proxy server adresses and subsitute those.

I would love to get Yahoo Messenger working on my XDA with o2! Is this possible? I looked on the Yahoo site for a download but doesn't seem to be one there.
Any help appreciated
Regards
John

I am having the same problem also.
I have entered the Orange DNS server settings as the Proxy: these are 192.168.071.035 and port 80.
Has it worked?? Not a chance.
Anyone know the correct settings for Orange UK?
BTW - there is a piece of software called IMOV which is a single IM environment for Yahoo, MSN and AOL. Get it here: http://www.movsoftware.com/products/imov/imov.htm

The only yahoo messenger client for Pocket PC I found is an old old version (for wince 2.11)
http://messenger.yahoo.com/messenger/ce/downloads_ce_msgr.html
I can connect sometimes, but the software seems to close itself :?
I don't know if yahoo developers plan to develop a updated version ?
Would be great as all my contacts are under yahoo messenger.

Yahoo for PPC 2002
visit www.yahoo.Co.uk click on the messenger link then look at the left of the screen. there is a link to wincE versions and open that will show you 2 versions. 1 for ppc 2002 and 1 for older wince versions.
However the problems listed above regarding servers and ports should be noted.

Hotmail via Inbox

Hey guys, I know you are lots smarter than me (not hard )
Anybody know the settings for setting up a Hotmail account to work via the 'Inbox' program?
I know we can just go on mobile internet, however I like it checking for messages and notifying me when I have them!
Any help, greatly appreciated
You have to download a program called HTTPMail Provider (find it at Pocketgear)
i tried this s/w before ... it worked great ... but since the MSN network itself is slow, it affected the inbox refresh speed

FREE EXCHANGE SERVICE www.alol.net.br - has anyone tried it?

anyway since mail2web is no loner free this free service could come in handy http://www.alol.net.br
if you get the following message:"the security certificate on the server is not valid. contact your exchange server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server."
Try to use without ssl connection. Or enter in https://win.alol.net.br and get the certficate file and copy to your phone and run the certificate file .cer.
Both options should work.
certificate attached below.
has anyone tried it ? i'm currently using windows live but i'm not too happy with it since i have to forward my gmail to my live acc...
anyway i have tried these services as well:
emoze - only 1mb attachment size
emansio - doesn't work with gmail when HSDPA is enabled (customer service sad that that will be fixed in their next release)
seven - service is unreliable , and too buggy for me (still beta).
WM live - doesn't allways sync (sometimes it takes up to 3hrs to sync my acc)
mail2web - no longer free
funambol - it doesn't exactly push mail.. it usually gets it within 10mins
imap pusher service - isn't stable , however a great and promising project
massaint direct push - http://dpush.massaint.com
It's free DirectPush , currently works only with gmail through ActiveSync
so does anyone have some more info on this alol.net.br exchange service - my main concern is if it's going to stay free and can i use a different "reply to/send" adress.
thanks
EDIT : added alol certificate
regards ;-)
I would rather use Chronobis ! Try that if you want Outlook emails on mobile !
It works perfect. Pushes in a second, 1GB space, up to 100MB attachment. Thanks for sharing. But looks you can't use different address.

are you sure that you can sync mail? i know about calendar and contacts.
are you using something like nuevasync?
Works with your desktop Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010
Very nice, but you can't use your existing Windows Live account for it. The only way to get those emails would be to foward them. Other than that, if you're looking for a new email address, this is fantastic!

I think you can add a GMail account to your Mail on your phone, but it doesn't use the Exchange server at all, it just goes through POP or IMAP or whatever it uses.
i use alol since 2 weeks now and i must sat that it is really reliable.
i sync ppc, tabletpc and desktop pc (mail, calendar, contacts n tasks).
the guy from alol was very helpful to configure all of this.
but if u want to also sync ourlook 2007 sp2 with alol (and any other xchange i guess), you will have to dl a hotfix for outlook, unless you configure the account before applying sp2. i did a lot of search and test before understandin and finding that.
u can pm if you need
btw, i recommand alol, it is working very well (i ger all my email from several addresses with gmail and forward all 2 alol; so that i get push for all boxes with 1 only account. little drawback: i answer all my mails with alol address)
@lezink
Can U tell me, which outlook hotfix it ist, because i´m having also trouble with alol an the Outlook 2007 SP2. I can´t connect to the server.
My mobile syncs without problems, but I want to sync my desktop pc also.
Thanx

Hmm that's true. Idk, I actually never thought about that. Bad idea by me, most likely. Well I'll tell you if anything happens. I noticed that they seem to be from Mexico or another Spanish speaking place, because all of their e-mails have spanish in the headers, like the to and from parts.

Has anyone got Exchange to work with m.google.com?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has been able to get push/exchange email working via the HTC Mail app and google's exchange server.
No it is not working with my googlemail account either. I already tried hard and read a lot about it but I didn't get it working. It always hangs in a loop as soon as I start the mail sync after configuration.
Regs,
P.S.: I use MoDaCo 2.8 Rom

Thought as much, so I can't use the HTC Mail app or the unbuilt Gmail app (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588547) for push mail
Shame about this, I've become pretty dependant on Gmail and google calendar.
I'm waiting to upgrade to the Hero.
At the moment I'm using m.google.com with Touchdown on a Magic, works fine. Hopefully I will be able to port the Touchdown licence to the Hero.
Yes, I have.
My settings are:
Email address: <email-addy>@gmail.com
Server address: m.google.com
Username: <email-addy>@gmail.com
Password: ********
This server requires an encrypted SSL connection: Y
In the Send&Receive menu:
Set download frequency: As items arrive
Hope this helps as it works fine for me.

Dave

What did you pick? I only tried to sync mail as I use a different email account for calendar/contacts etc and I use the Gmail app for that address.

[Q] E-Mail Sync with Windows Live not working

Hi guys
I have a problem with synchronizing my mails on my HD2.
I use a live.de-account for collecting all my mails from different providers - so far it works.
But then I wanted to sync those mails on my device. I was a bit suprised that the windows live program always showed up and took over the mail-setup from the inbuild-mailclient in windows mobile to itself.
The first synchronization worked but that was last week -.-.
The windows live program seems connected to the internet and my accountsettings are working (it can show my firstname) but when I want to sync it an error occured "e-mail login failed.please try it later".
I'm not so into this technique but I tried deleting and re-installing/configuring the mail setup. I downloaded the windows live software again (from market place).
I even wrote a support mail to windows but the answers was pretty much the same as in this thread.
As far as I understand the manual it's just synchronizing with outlook on my computer.
But I don't want a) Outlook and b)active-sync (= usb connection to my own computer).
I want a synchronization on the move with wlan or umts but nothing seems to work.
So actually I'm looking for a trick to configure my mail account without windows live software or some help to get it working with the windows live software.
my HD2:
unbranded original
latest official rom-version from htc ( Germany: 3.14.407.2)
Vodafone Germany
windows live software 10.7.0059.0600.1000

The thread there is correct. Which method are you really using? Do you set up hotmail as an exchange server as in the thread, or are you using the live client?
Sorry, but I'm not so into this.
Exchange Server?
In HTC Sense is a mail program and I use that. But when I want to configure a new account it automatically redirects my to windows live. I think windows live intercepts the setup and overtakes it because of the @live.de -ending. If i use other providers - everythings working fine without windows live.

There are two ways to connect to hotmail (aka live mail). The old method is to use the Live mobile, an application that allows you to access several live features. You get mails when you check mail, like POP3. The new method (I think it was released last year) is to use push mail. Configure it as it you have an exchange server, and set the parameters according to the link. New mails will immediately appear on your mobile. Both method should work. With push mail, you don't need to install the live mobile application and you don't need to explicitly check mail.
Ah.
alright,it's working...
sorry but I don't saw any connection between push mail and exchange server..
Ok,now I could deinstall windows live?
It's not necessary any more,right?

Correct. If you are setting up push mail (it uses Exchange Sync protocol so that's why you configure hotmail as exchange), then you no longer needs the Live client (unless you want other features, such as Messenger).
Hi Raizm and Alex,
OK ! The pushmail settings worked perfect for my with HD2 > Outlook > Hotmail settings. (with link settings) THANKS !! I tested this with a kind of 'Spam hotmail account' NOW i have a problem. I cannot change my spam hotmail adres to my real one. It is greyed-out in the settings ?!!! Also tried new account in windows live messenger but alas, still no change (possible) in my userID field....
Thanks very much in advance !!!
Peter
YESSSS FOUND IT, PFFFF
This is a tricky one. You have to go to the activeync !!! (Default Windows menu >> Extra)
There Menu > Options and then delete "Microsoft Exchange Items" with delete button.
THEN you can create a new Exchange account within outlook.
Thought I let you all know.
Thanks anyway

[Q] Anyone tested Hotmail / Exchange

Hi
I am getting the Galaxy SII in the next few days and I am coming form a windows 6.5 phone, but have also used iPhones for work purposes.
Has anyone tested the exchange setup on the new Galaxy?
I am a long standing hotmail user (please dont start a bashing thread hotmail vs gmail etc ) and I want to stay using hotmail.
Is the exchange client on the phone now capable of doing everything using a hotmail account?
If not whats the best solution?
Use a different mail client on the phone?
Link hotmail to gmail account?
I've done a little searching and it seems that different models of android phones seem to handle exchange email in different ways as some phones seem to work others dont.....
I also would like to know what advantages gmail gives to you over hotmail only in reference to Andriod?
Many thanks

Only thing missing is the ability to push multiple folders
If you need full exchange-ish funcionality, then touchdown is probably the best app to use.

Same problem here. I've been with hotmail for almost 15 years and don't want to change. I want a client that syncs the way activesync did on my winmo phone (with sub folders too)....searched and searched with no luck. I can't believe that it doesn't come with the default client
Hotmail/Live accounts work. However, I tried to link my university email, which uses Outlook, and that didn't work.
