I think that this is very annoying...
When I ring an engaged number, the XDA just disconects on me. But does not display any message describing whats happened! So you just move a little more to the left in the aim of getting better signal to connect the call, it happens as though exactly you have no signal...
Has anybody else had a similar problem. What indication do you get when you ring an engaged number?
Martin
I have the same problem, I am sure O2 charge you for evey attempt
I have the same problem too, no solution yet!
I have this problem too! I am in Hong Kong. So we all from every where in the world, so it is not the problem from our GSM Services Providers, its from our Xda!
Asked a while back
I asked this question about a month ago, but no one replied to it... Can we have people test this on their xda and post the ROM + Radio versions for people who have this bug?
It seems we all have this problem on all ROM Versions i am starting to beleive its not a bug!
i hope it is and we can have a fix for it soon...
:?
I have the same problem too. But a friend of mine has an XDA which works noirmal. Buyt he has radio version 4.06 from Ireland. Could this bug be a problem in version 4.08?
Ditto i have the same problem, I thought it was low signal before now i know better!!!!!
i have the same problem to  and its really annoying
yeah me too... wasnt sure what the script was before
i tried looking for the wav that it plays for the engaged tone (very kwik 3 descending beeps), however couldnt find it anywhere. Was thinking I could change the wav file.
I've got the same problem too, another thing that pees me off is the fact that this contraption doesnt have an auto redial facility either!
Regarding redial, couldn't you just press the green phone button to redial?
Or do you mean a feature which keep dialing and then notifies you when a connection has been made?

If u check my post you'll see that I was actually talking about an "AUTO" redial facility.
Cheers!
If you upgrade to WM 2003 (PPC2003) then they've taken care of this problem. It's still a pending issue in PPC2002.
I also miss the indication of whether the current call you are receiving is forwarded. For example: Nokia will display a little arrow next to the Caller ID number and state 'Forwarded Call', which isn't there in the XDA.
Where can I get the 2003 version from?

You really should search the forums, but I'm feeling helpful.
Follow the posts in this thread here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1460
But please, for the sake of your XDA, remember:
Flashing your ROM is dangerous! Do not attempt it unless you know exactly what you are doing.
Has anyone got the Irish 4.06 RadioStack version? This version seems to indicate when a line is busy or not.

Hi chaps,
Being on this forum for a few weeks now and am really impressed with the help received.
I have an small issue with my XDA (back to business ). Its really the phone part that causing probs. On two occasions i have tried to dial a number, it tries to dial for about 3 secs then just makes a little chime and ends. I tried about 5 different numbers and its the same.
i checked for reception and it was on max bars - why was is not dialling?
I did a soft reset and after a few attempts it sorted itself out.
I am a little new to xda (how'd ya guess :? ) - is this something to do with the radio version of the phone, ie something i can update?
I am using SE 1.1 (have not taken the plunge to 1.2 .. but thanks jeff !)
Rom version = 3.17.03 ENG
Rom Date = 05/15/03
Radio version = 4.20.00
protocol version = 32S54
If i need to update the radio, could you kindly tell me the link.
Thanks for your time.
Ali
Hi Ali,
I think the problem you are describing is caused by a bug. What is really happening is the phone number you are dialling is busy but the XDA can't handle this and so just gives you a rather unimpressive beep. The fact that after you softboot a coupld of times it goes away only means that the number is no longer busy.
I believe this is fixed in Pocket PC 2003.
Cheers, Malachi
...aren't chaps something cowboys wear?
Hi Malachi
thanks for your reply.
you are right about the chaps but it also means

i understand what you are saying about the phone being engaged, the thing is, i did try a few different numbers... hrm ...
you say its fixed in ppc2003. I have seen that on edonkey... but dont i need the ppc2003 phone edition or something?
is it safe to just download ppc2003 from edonkey and install ?
can i ask, is ppc2003 what you are running?
what is a radio update for?
thanks for your help
Does anyone know of a program that can provide continuous alerts (ring/vibrate) until I acknowledge and turn it off? I get a one time ring or vibrate alert but often don’t notice the one short vibrate. So, unless I look at the phone I will never know I missed a call, have an email, or anything else. I have a Treo 600 also and there is a real handy program called Treo Butler that does just what I need but it is only for Palm OS. I use the T-Mobile PPC 2003 phone. This is a real show stopper for me so if anyone has some ideas, please post.
Thank you in advance.
Joe
hey, i fully agree with you. when you come from the smartphone side (like i do) you are familiar having a signal of at least 30secs or until you acknowledge by pushing a button. that is very useful in the day-to-day work. since i have my nokia 3650 replaced by an o2 xda2 i have all my contacts, calendar entries, memos etc migrated so far (lucky guy i am) i also have missed a lot of notifications because of this only one short ringing signal :-(
would very much appreciate such a programm.

Looks like this might be the ticket. Scroll down to look at the screen shots for “upcoming” version 5.0. Looks like you can set repeat alerts. Hmmmm…..
Joe
http://www.geocities.com/myppcpe2003/
what i've been saying forever!!!
I've been whining about repeat alerts forever now, but nobody seemed to be able to figure out why that'd be necessary or that it exists on 99% of cell phones.
Maybe the British just don't get to handle advanced technology like that.
If anybody find something, it'd be great!!
I’ve found a few programs that look like they may do what we need. Most say they are for PPC2002/2003 but do not say phone version. One of these, (alarmToday 2.01) http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=10342&associateid=9 specifically says phone support and has what it says is “Repeating vibration alarms on Phone device”. Looks good.
Here are a few more links to programs I found but again, not sure if these “repeat alerts” will work on a phone edition of PPC. Actually, I would assume they would work but would lack the settings for things like missed calls and what not.
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=12630&associateid=9
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2720&associateid=9
I’m at work now and I do not have my sync cable so I cannot test any of these. Will test when I get home though and report back. If anyone else can test, that would be great. Also found a link http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/chats/trans/mobility/mob0422.mspx on MS TechNet where an interview of some sort occurred with the MS PPC guys. In the interview, it was asked …..
Host: Joe (Microsoft)
Q: Why was repeating alarms taken away between 2000 & 2002?
A: We made a mistake.
I guess they did not think it was a big enough mistake to put it back into 2003!!!!
Take care.
Joe
Well, struck out totally. And to top it off, the developer of My PPCPE 2003, http://www.geocities.com/myppcpe2003 is not going any further with it like he says in this link. Looks like My Phone Profiles is what he is working on now but maybe he will add the repeat alerts for missed calls and such. Anyone had any luck with other software? I can’t stress enough how much of a show stopper this deficiency is for me. I may just have to return this T-Mobile phone and stick with Sprint and Treo 600. I really need the ICA client and good web browsing though, which the Treo has neither of. Very desperate for a solution here!
Joe
Hi guys,
I´m in Hong Kong and just got my Dopod U1000, since my last PDA was the Hermes and Universal (both with WM6), I would like to know if there is any leaked rom available ? If not I will ask to my friends at HTC and MS
Another point is, The only way to make calls is using a headset? Seriously this was unexpected to me... I will receive a bluetooth headset from Plantronics for free (local promo), but just in case, There is any other way to use the phone? (without the speakerphone)?
tks!
Phelipe
i am waitting too..........
Yes this also puzzled me. How is it possible that the speakerphone cannot be de-activated? Sometimes when I forget to bring my bt headset the phone rings, I answer the call and everyone of my collegues listen to my phone conversation, due to speakerphone active!
Thanks and waiting

hardware
I think that the Ameo hasn't got the hardware to be used as a "normal" phone (e.g the small ear-speakers used by a "normal" phone).
That's quite shocking. I never knew the Athena could not be answered as a normal mobile phone.

if you don't know this, then you haven't done enough research
to be fair i have not seen any video or other reviews where they go over the fact that you can talk on it like a normal phone. back to the question at hand, what i do is turn down the volume all the way and then talk on it like a normal phone people can still here just not as will and not as far away but i still use a bluetooth
FYI - the volume settings are different when your on or off the phone so if you turn down the volume when your on the phone talking, it will still be loud when you get off the phone.
u can make/answer the call without earphone.
the internal speaker will be on in this case. it means people around u also can hear your call.
i had once, it's a quite embarrassing when people are watching u while u r talking to a brick. :-D
^true....its really embarrassing...
It happened to me once in an elevator...
Always keep your BT headset with your Athena...

hahahahaha LOL...tat sucked
(my english is bad... so "hahahaha LOL" is enough to convey my reply to you)
Hello,
well I think all of you know, that many reviews say, that the call quality of TG01 is pretty bad. They say, that the people that you call with the TG01, don't understand your voice very good etc.
Well it's not clear if it's a hardware or a software issue.
So today I made a test of the hardware. I installed the newest version of Skype mobile on the TG01 and called the Skype test Service. There I could leave a voicemessage and after that I was able to hear my voicemessage.
So I tried that and found that the quality of the microphone isn't very bad. Everything was very clear. No cracking or somethin like that.
So why is the quality in normal calls so bad? I think it could be a software problem. I would be very happy if it would be a software problem, because softwareproblems can be fixed
What do you guys think?
I would like you to try this method, too. I want to know if you make the same experiences with the microphone on skype that I have made.
Best regards,
Manuel
there is already a topic for this
there is more to it then the test you described accounts for like signal being 3g or 2g probably other variables but you test shows good results for software prob which can be proved by results of using srswow

so many people are complaining about this.... but imho no ones actually quantified the problem...
some say it's barely able to function as a phone, others say the call qual is merely degraded...
some say no probs on 3g, others say 2g is best....
most people seem to agree its probably not hardware... the problems is retained on bluetooth... aparently...
some say it's orange... some say it's any 1800gsm network...
i think the majority of people who have unlocked thier phone & moved away from orange have experienced improved results... there's a few posts to this effect over on modaco.com & my own opinion is that my unlocked TG much prefers my work SIM to my orange one... roll on end of contract
trying to post on my tgo1 is annoying you got my post before i finished it lol stupud buttons i agree its got to be software or evil orange hopefully the rumored fix appears soon. i personaly have bad quality all the time so like you roll on end of contract 20months noooooooo
My TG01 ia unlocked and I use it on the o2 network, I had complaints from people i am calling about them not being able to hear me or dropping in and out so the problem is not specific to orange. It is better with a bluetooth headset but still not great.
I am waiting for this rumoured "audio fix" to appear from orange / toshiba or the newer 6.5.3 rom would be nice (wont hold my breath though).
i forgot to mention when i first got tg01 i had loads of problems, anyway went into store and they "tested" it and said it sounded fine i told them what i thought it sounded like trying to talk through two tin cans with a string,
manager at store said thats just what tg01s sound like htere is nothing that we can do, no refund as its classed as being in the design of the phone not an actual fault. i am going to start a down with orange group lol
if I ring someone from my orange sim, hang up swap to my tmuk sim and ring them back they tell its like i'm on a diff phone....
You sure you're not using a different phone?!
I can't honestly see why that should make a difference, phone-side, as TMob and Orange operate on the same frequency band - I suppose it could be through the voice-compression systems used at the cells and downlinks though.
The way to test this, would be to try a test-call using both your Orange and TMobile SIMs in a different handset - see how it goes.
I've found the 'listening' quality of the TG01 pretty poor, I have to admit, but having spent years listening to, and diagnosing audio systems small and (very) large, what I'm hearing is definitely a limitation of the speaker / amplifier, rather than codec / software issue.

This could point to an issue with one of the bands that the phone uses causing the problem like the 3g band. I have read other posts saying they dont have an issue when the phone is forced to GSM mode.
I have the problem both with the orange sim that came with the phone and also my contract o2 sim. This leads me to believe that the problem doesn't lie with the operator but with the actual phone itself. It could be hardware but most likely software as most people are saying.
Lets hope they release this blinking fix soon before i get rid of it and get an android phone. Had windows mobiles for the past 6 years and have put up with things not working because basically there wasn't an alternative that could match what the windows platform could. Now there is so unless something drastic happens on the windows mobile front there will be a lot people leaving and going to alternative platforms.
orange and tmobile are the same company as of a few months ago so i will avoid them both now. its such a shame tg01 has this problem i will have to find out what network the people that complain to me about how i sound are on (as some say i sound fine) as its an interesting therory about signals ect

this (often posted) msg from Toshiba could amount to a number of things...
it could mean
we've developed a fix & are merely waiting for the carriers to agree distribution terms before we issue it
but it might mean
we dont care - go away. if the carriers start saying there's a problem & they're prepared to pay us development costs then we'll consider lifting a finger to find a fix, but we're a bit busy developing other products at the moment so if you don't like waiting, we suggest you get a iphone
or anything in between.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's worth noting that Japan doesn't use GSM, so they may not be that ofey with designing for it....
I still just want to clarify what exactly the problem is....
Like I said earlier
To many people are describing varying degrees of severity, against far to many variables
We’ve read them all... "this phone's shjt, its ok on 3g, its best on 2g, its orange, it's the 1800gsm band, its hardware, its software blah blah
To meaningfully get to the bottom of this we really need to pool resources, conduct some testing & arrive at what the precise problem is we're experiencing...
After all if everybody is correct about the problems their having... then all this serves to demonstrate is that TG01s are leaving the factory with a myriad of different problems, suggesting a woeful lack quality control....
...........which would be very unlikely from someone like Toshiba....
My own €0.02 ???
Orange is pathetic in my area.
I can only get 2g signal. On my Nokia 2600 I had to go into the garden to get any telephony at all.
My TG at least works in the house.
When I use the TG I can be heard fairly well - with the occasional ''can you repeat that mate, you broke up a bit' from the person on the other end of the line...
When I put in the T-Mobile SIM call quality is vastly improved....
....based on the above I THINK that
- The TG01 isn't a bad unit - perhaps just not as good as some of the other WM devices...
- The majority of MY call quality issues are caused by the orange signal in my area
.........................
Reading this forum RE the (apparently divine, can do no wrong) HTC HD2 didn't that arrive with dodgy call quality & the xda boffins had to make a selection of revised radios to get the quality people expected?
Cheers - sorry for the long one !!!

sorry to be thick - but are you saying you think the problem is caused by the physical speaker (microphone) or by the amplification method the phone uses to boost sound output?
if this is what you're saying, then what do you think the fix is? (a different speaker?)
forgive my ignorance but i thought the problem was still edvident when using a BT device, so doesn't this rule out hardware altogther?
Sorry if i'm being thick... !!!

My dad is getting problems with poor audio, he often gets people asking "what did you say", when he can hear them clearly. The signal in our house is usually 4/5 bars of 2G with occasional 3G coverage in places.
He's getting fed up with it so I hope there is a fix coming because otherwise it's a decent phone bar the poor battery life.

This may sound really strange (and it's based on something somebody said on another forum) but ...
The microphone on the TG01 is at the bottom left of the screen. Can you ask your father to ensure that he is talking directly into the microphone and see if it makes any difference?

Doubt it has anything to do with the microphone as it happens with a bluetooth ear piece as well.
Hi all,
Merry Christmas to all on this wonderful site
I have been using the HD2 from the last 5-6mts. However, recently noticed that the problem with not getting enough network on my cell phone, calls dropping, sms giving a problem. If I get the phone inside my apartment, get very less network, unlike other handsets where using the same SIM, I get excellent reception! I don't know if any upgrade is required or not.. below are the phone details.. I really don't want to give up on this beauty, I love it except for this...
Model : HTC HD2 T8585
s/n : HT03XNW03568
IMEI : 35412003737464001
OS : 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
Manila version : 2.5.19211619.0
ROM version : 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
ROM DATE : 01/11/10
RADIO VERSION : 2.06.51.07
PROTOCOL VERSION 15.30.50.07U
I trying to upgrade the ROM on the HTC India as well as UK site but keeps telling me the s/n number does not permit this upgrade!
Totally confused and don't have a techie mind here to apply ..so ne step by step help would be gr8.
Also read a few posts of people upgrading the HD2 to Android... Any specific benefits in doing so ? My battery life, call drops (no network) are quiet a pain with the above versions that I am using...
Cheers and thanks again to all for your help... please keep writing in with your suggestions / feedbacks..

Your Phone is Vodafone HD2 Sir
Go to here and download with your S/N
the new LEO-S Vodafone UK 3.14 Stock ROM
see you, in Artemis ROM thread...
hi there..
Thanks for being the 1st to reply spot on...I have a few questions though (pardon my ignorance on this and please be patient)
- The version i currently have is 1.66 whereas on the link which is for Vodaphone it is 3.14... is it ok to str8 jump to this version or are there any other versions I need to first update and then go to the latest one ? BTW I use a separate service provider in India (and not vodafone).
- I have Microsoft My Phone on the phone which I have loaded all the contacts/sms etc on. After the download is over, am assuming I will have to reload all the contacts/sms again ?
- I am downloading the ROM upgrade file on the desktop (use Vista) without attaching the phone with the USB cable. Am assuming to run the .exe file I will need to attach the phone to laptop and then run the file ?
- Will the Radio versions get upgraded too ? As I think the calls dropping due to network issues is to do with the Radio versions...
Kindly revert when convenient, the download is ongoing on my laptop as I write this message...
Cheers and thank you again for your help.
Greetings from India
to each question above.
correct
correct
correct
no, you can't change radio on 3.14 roms because there is no hspl for it yet.
hi there,
Thanks for your kind revert.
Does that mean the call dropping thing will not improve with the new ROM... the Radio version shows 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14 where as the version I am on is 2.06.51.07. Hope this Radio upgrade along with the ROM upgrade helps cause the call drops are quiet unprofessional especially when someone calls from work... and I don't seem to face this problem on other handsets which are less than a fraction of a cost to the HD2...
yea going from 2.06.51 to 2.15.50 should certainly see improvement.
Hi samsamuel,
i have bad news for you. After two or three months of use, my HD2 started to drop Data, SMS couldn't be delievered sucessfully and I wasn't able to do any phone calls in certain areas. I send it for rma an got an new one after 3 weeks.
hope this helps
Hi there,
I just did a ROM upgrade... Thank you all in here...
Some more questions on it...
- I get the vodafone logo on the start up... hope that shouldnt create a problem with settings with my own service provider as I do not use vodafone...
- While sending SMS, it quickly shows sending failed. After a 2nd retry, the message goes thru successfully... ne reason why ?
- My WAP/GPRS settings are obviously gone and my service provider will call 2mrw to load it back again...only then will i be able to sync by address book from Microsoft My Phone
Kindly advise/comment on the above when you guys can...
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers!

- I get the vodafone logo on the start up... hope that shouldnt create a problem with settings with my own service provider as I do not use vodafone...

thats the 'splashscreen', its just a picture, you can change it just like flashing roms.
- My WAP/GPRS settings are obviously gone and my service provider will call 2mrw to load it back again...only then will i be able to sync by address book from Microsoft My Phone

shouldnt need to wait for them to do anything
settings - menu - all settings - connections - connection setup.
Im surprised it didn't run automatically when the phone restarted.
hi Samsamuel,
Thanks, as always for your help.
- How does one change that vodafone logo showing up on start up or on shutdown ?
- I too was surprised as to how the wap/gprs settings didnt come on automatically... finally after around 14hrs of logging a complaint, waiting for 2hrs on the phone (literally over several calls) and visiting the service providers store, the WAP/GPRS settings were provided and I could get my contact list reloaded again...Now you know the level of service that we get.
- Any other recommendations on any applications / upgrades on the phone would be appreciated...Do you recommend I change the radio version as the current one that i have with this upgrade is 2.15 and didn't notice much difference in the connectivity area (which is my main problem really) though have used it only for a day as yet.
Cheers!
see the 'splashscreen watermark' link in my sig for the technicals of flashing splashscreens.
for recommendations, i rarely offer recommendations, except cookies home tab
i didnt like 2.15 radio, but its very VERY much trial and error, , no two people agree on radio performance. for me 2.10.50 and 2.11.50 work best.
