XDA abroad - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I am having trouble with my xda abroad, it seems to either never get a gprs connection or if it does can never find a site. Ive soft and hard reset, manually searched for the regional network. When i manually search all i get is it constantly searching any ideas?>

The GPRS capability is service provider dependent. I’ve already used GPRS abroad and it worked with some roaming providers but did not with others in the same country. So I suggest try to switch to a different roaming network if one is failing

Pricing
See my previous post on this forum about pricing for GPRS roaming...

As well as some roaming networks charging over £20 per meg, all roaming GPRS networks have a daily charge just for using it - and this will apply per network per APN!!!!

Issue: can get access to Internet only if Data Roaming is on

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with internet access. I can get it only if function Data Roaming is turned on. I contacted my provider (Tele2) but they could not do anything about that.
So, I don't know how to fix it and where is the problem: in my provider or device itself?
I am not abroad and i don't ant to keep this function on all the time, because it can be rather expensive and i don't thing that should be a a cause of a problem.
Thank you in advance
I know when using operator Onecall I was always roaming when transferring data because Network Norway (wich Onecall lends it network from) have not yet built its own 3G network, so you are roaming between telenor 3G on data transfers, whilst you can make ordinary calls on 2G networks provided by Network Norway. Maybe this is the case with Tele2? Roaming between onecall and telenor was free of charge. Within Norway, of course.
Edit: The reason that roaming is said to be expensive is because you could suddenly be connected to another network where you have no control over what they are charging you. In reality this is no issue for us Norwegians as roaming access is determined by the operator, and they are obligated not charge you anything more than claimed when you signed up.

[Q] Intermittant and unreliable 3G (Tele2 Netherlands)

Hi there,
I have been wresteling with this problem for about 4 weeks now.
The 3G connects and DHCPs an IP address, but is unable to connect with any network.
I have tried different SIM cards, but the same problem persists. Sometimes it works very well, but most of the time it sends traffic yet does not receive traffic.
Sometimes it drops to GPRS when there is a full 3G signal from the same network on other phones next to me on the same network.
I have flashing many stock kernels/radios including the original that came with the phone. Still the 3G is next to useless.
The wireless and all other functions work well.
Has anyone had these problems with their i9100?
The network I use is Tele2 in the Netherlands (Its a virtual network on top of T-Mobile).
Regards.

[Q] Data working on foreign carrier?

Hello there just want to make sure is this phonr working on vodafone New Zealand?
A local website says the phone only support vodafone 2G
Vodafone's mobile network operates on the following frequencies:
A 2G GSM voice network on 900/1800MHz (almost every GSM mobile should work on these frequencies)
A 2G GPRS data network on 900/1800MHz
A 3G UMTS data network for voice, video calls and data on 2100MHz
A 3G HSDPA network on 2100MHz
I know in some places voice call and sms are working, not the 3G data

This might answer your question. But looks like it should work on 3g

Watch out, though, people have reported it's not possible to enter customized APNs on the Photon due to Sprint's software customizations. This is necessary for some foreign carriers to have data access.

Shall I just give it a try? It is a lot of money though
My Photon works fine. I'm using it here in the Philippines...
3G is 2100 over here.
Bought it on eBay sealed and untouched. So when I took it out, inserted my SIM, and turned it on, it was trying to get on the Sprint network to activate. Since that wasn't going to happen, I just let it be. Soon enough it got tired and displayed a screen saying activation failed. I clicked OK and then it let me continue onto the phone where I changed the network settings.
I set mine up to "Any GSM/UMTS" and immediately it recognized the new network. I created a new APN to test data and it worked.
The only thing I hate is that whenever I reboot the phone, it always tries to activate. I think maybe I should delete Sprint Zone so that it stops doing that...

[Q] AT&T Data Plans

I am on a grandfather unlimited iPhone Data plan on iPhone 4. I recently purchased a samsung I777 on Ebay, slipped my simcard with a micro-->regular sim adapter. I love the samsung galaxy but my data speeds are definitely slower on the new phone. Do I have to call At&t and get my data plan changed to smartphone personal (unlimited plan) to be able to use HSPA+ (their so called 4G) on the new phone or any different data plan or do my network speeds have nothinbg got to do with the data plan I am on?
no i did something similar and i get H+ speeds and i still have the iphone plan... might be your area... my S2 is MUCH faster than my old iphone
Go to an AT&T store, ask for a new SIM card and ask them to activate it with the "Smartphone 4G Unlimited"
ya just did the same thing, get a new sim, my sgs2 is much faster than my i4
AT&T has different codes for each unlimited plan
iPhone unlimited code is GPRS WAP UNLTD DOM - CMB1
3G Smartphone unlimited code is GPRS WAP UNLTD DOM - DPPB
4G smartphone unlimited code is GPRS WAP UNLTD DOM - HSDPPB
I went from an iPhone plan and just got a new Sim from AT&T. The sales rep automatically coded my plan to have the 4G unlimited plan code HSDPPB.

anyway i can check this online? my bill shows "SMT PERSONAL". when i got my sgsii it wouldn't connect to the "phone" apn so i went into the store and got a new simcard and the rep noticed i was on a blackberry data plan. he changed that but i still feel like i'm not getting the speeds i'm supposed to. My dell streak gets 2-3Mbps faster then my sgsii. I called up at&t a week ago and told them i'm getting slower speeds then my old phone and the rep said since i recently switched from the blackberry plan to the smartphone plan and i'm not seeing a difference, i should wait for the next billing period. I'm in the next billing period now and i'm only getting 1-2 Mbps down.

Login to your account online. Then go to the following:
Account Overview > View Recent Usage > Scroll down to Additional Data Purchase Usage
It takes a few to make out what is being stated here but you'll see it soon enough. Look for one of the columns that shows, "Data GPRS WAP UNLTD DOM - RHSDPPB"

Thank you. so i guess i am on the right plan :/
"Data
GPRS WAP UNLTD
DOM - HSDPPB"
I noticed in Settings-About Phone-Status under "Mobile network type" mine shows UMTS but if i reset my data connection or phone it will show "HSPA" but quickly switch to "UMTS" and stay on "UMTS". I know the antenna nearby might not do HSPA but i've checked in several locations and it does the samething, "HSPA" for a couple of seconds, then switch to "UMTS" and stay like that.
What does yours show as the mobile network type?

Mine has always shown both too. I can't say for certain but it seems that HSDPA tends to show up more often during active data sessions then changes to UMTS when its idle. Just a theory.
The icon doesn't matter. Your speed does. And the number of users on your tower too. Plus they don't have very good 4g coverage in many areas.

[Q] Anyone on Three UK got GPRS working?

Does anyone have GPRS working on Three UK? I think the issue is with the phone running custom roms, I think some of the settings have been tweaked, 3G still works, but GPRS doesn't when it falls back to that. Data does seem to flow back and forth, but never does a page load / email / push message arrive.
I had a bit of a nightmare earlier when wanting to use google navigation, and only having a non-working GPRS connection.
Any help would be appreciated.
- Anthony
Try flashing with a modem from another firmware.
mines working using KI4 modem
GPRS or GPS? Three UK is a 3G network only, therefore you will never have GPRS only 3G H and H+
Its not the phone. Three UK data over 2g is nonexistent. You can check your account balance but surfing etc. may as well be off as it is useless. Three use orange for their 2g but data never works.
I'm seriously considering moving to giffgaff, only problem is I go roaming in southern Ireland and its free to receive calls on Three Ireland, there used to be three like home but not any longer.
