Hi
Wonder if anyone knows how to customise the xda to use different ringtones to different calls received?
Thanks
V
Only solution i know is the tool caller2picture....
With this software you can choose different ringtones and you can add a photo to display on incoming call.
Just try it. There is a free testversion...

Stefan
Thanks- got it at pocketgear.com
HI Stefan,
Thanks for reply. Just after I emailed you, I found a thread titled caller2picture further down on scrolling the same forum and found the software in pocketgear.com
Will try this out. Anyone with other softwares available besides this?
Cheers
V
You should take a look at http://phonext.oabsoftware.nl.
There you can download PhonExt.
It's small, but effective; and it's free!!!
MTUX
Hi Janevries,
Thanks a lot !!
Great application; in fact I found another one called MTUX RingtoneX (can be found easily in pocketgear.com ) which does almost the same as Phonext and is not free. The advantage of RingtoneX and Phonext is that both can assign a whole category of contacts to a special ringtone and this is something that Caller2picture cannot do. Hopefully the later versions of Phonext can allow one to assign photos to the contact as well.
Cheers

I already love Phone Ext in its current form.
Great job!
Can't get the phonext to work in UK
HI folks,
Just after my last posting, I downloaded the phonext programme and tried to dial from it. Unfortunately, it kept assuming the +1 country code and I could not get the phonext program to dial a UK number. I also have Caller2picture in my XDA and wonder if this is the problem or is there something else I should do ?
Hope someone could help.
Thanks.
Vic
Phonext dial properly but can't assign ringtones
Hi folks,
Found the solution in the General section where there is a posting on Phonext- go to settings, connections, connections and dialling locations and change the country code to 44; somehow by default my country code was 1 and area code 425 !!! Don't know why before using phonext this hasn't affected my dialling but anyway with this change, phonext will dial properly. However, I still couldn't assign ringtone using categories or by the contact menu. Any ideas?
Cheers
Vic
Make sure you use PhonExt v1.2, we had a similar problem with v1.1
(PhonExt will definitely make it in a next version of the Special Edition ROM)
Version just downloaded
Hi
Thanks for reply. The version I used was just downloaded yesterday. Anyway, will try again to see if it works and will let you know.
Just one question though: how is it that previously when I was not using Phonext, the question of country code did not come in? ie all along I was just dialling ok with the country code set at 1 and area code set at 425 by default when I got the phone and honestly I did not know it was set at these values at all !!!
Cheers
Vic
the software does not support midi as ringo tone ..any solution ?
I've purchased MTUX RingtoneX, but it plays always the default ringtone.
Anyone encounters this problem??

Did you already try to make a phonecall with your XDA or MDA in your car? Then you certainly discovered a disadvantage of PocketPC Phone Edition: the buttons and menus in the Contacts application are much to small to select a contact and a number while driving (unless you have very sharp eyes and tiny fingers).
That's why I wrote PhonExt.
PhonExt makes it easier to scroll through your contacts, select a phone number and make a phonecall.
PhonExt makes it possible to really use your XDA or MDA while driving.
And with PhonExt you can easily recognize who is calling, even without watching the screen!
PhonExt offers the possibility to assign a specific ring tone to a contact or even to a category of contacts!
PhoneExt works on all pocket pc's with integrated phone that have Pocket PC 2002 - Phone Edition as operating system.
You can download it from http://phonext.oabsoftware.nl.
PhonExt extends your XDA; and it's free!
Oops, almost forgot to tell that PhonExt is freeware...
Cool and tiny software
It's Great tool
i install it and it's working fine with no problems and if i'll find any bug i'll let you know.
thanks with best regards

Great little app does exactly what I want.
Hi
Very nice app, works nicely and cleanly.
However have found that (here in the UK) it dials some mobile numbers wrongly.
eg. mobile number is 0781 123456
it will dial +1 781 123456 (i.e makes a call to America!)
Clearly this needs fixing.
Hi There
same problem here not only with mobiles...it was doing the +1 thing to ALL numbers...
The authors suggested I add country code into my XDA dialing properties...
After a reboot is is not doing the +1 thing anymore but now DROPPING all leading 0's ... so 0207 gets dialled as 207 , 07973 dialled as 7973
summat is going wrong here LOLOL

Just wondering: Have you changed your Country code from '1' to '<your country code>' ?
'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Connections' -> 'Connections' -> 'Dialing Locations'
After flashing qtek or the XDA-developers ROM my XDA Country code always changed to '1'.
grtz!
raymond..
yes I have, as said above , after setting the country code for mobile/home/work dialling properties , the dialler is now dropping all leading zeroes...
thnx for the reply
Doesn't customise ringtones
Hi folks,
I have the same problem- initially, phonext always dial +1 as prefix calling America as it is and then when I changed the settings of connections to country code 44, (ie not 0044), it dials correctly now. However the ringtone that I added to any categories doesn't work and even using the contact menu, adding ringtone doesn't work. Anyone has the same problem besides dialing out?
Cheers
Vic
For me it´s not working too....
First problem I have, that also the wrong numbers are dialed....
Instead of +497031.... it dials +317031....
I my contact list the number are stored in this format:
+49 (7031) .....
Another problem I have, is that i cann´t set a ring tone to a person. I´ve got this option in the contact list, but when i try it, I´ve get an error Message:
"Cannot run menu add in"
I´m using standard ROM Version 3.17.03 ENG and RAdio Version 4.21.00

Stefan

Ok, was my mistake. Have seen this thread already, but i didn´t mentioned, that there is a new version of Phonerxt Available. Now it works fine...

This is a very very very useful utility.
One suggestion: I have in my contacts more than a thousand numbers. I presume I'm not the only one. Although the search is fast (arrows go page up and page down), I suggest to the creator of the software to add in the upper row (instead of "Dial a contact") three buttons dividing names in alphabetical order (A-G, H-R, S-Z or whatever): this allows faster search. Thanks.
Can anyone tell me if PhoneExt works under WM 2003? Does anyone know of a program to replace it if it does not work?

Well all I can say its a known fact that PhoneExt has problems working correctly under WM2003.
So if you're in needing or looking for a replacement take a look at:
Pic&Ring ($10.00)
http://www.xda.com.cn/E/index.htm
The application enables you to personalize the incoming call ring-tone and picture according to different callers.
Hi there,
I was looking around for an app to let you choose different ringtones for contacts on a priority basis.
I found something similar by v3patel, but it didn't allow me to prioritise, e.g. a 'personal' ringtone to take precedence over a 'business' ringrone when a contact is in both categories.
....so I made this app. I hope that it might be useful for others too, do as ever let me know of any bug reports or feature requests.
EDIT: If you were testing v0.1, please upgrade to v0.2 for an important bugfix!
Download Link Here - v0.2
This app requires the .net compact framework on your device. For WM6 this comes pre-installed in ROM, others need to download here
Carlos
=====
Instructions
============
1. Choose a category and a ringtone.
2. Click 'Add to list' to add it to the priority list.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you've chosen all your desired categories and ringtones.
4. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to order your list into priority; categories at the top take precedence over categories below them.
5. Click 'Set Now' to make the changes.
Troubleshooting
===============
The app assumes that the ringtones are stored in \Windows\Rings. If this is NOT the case, go to the menu and choose 'Set Folder' to point it to a different location. This setting is currently NOT stored (sorry!) but will be in a future release if I get time!

cool, will try
Good work....
Hey, great work and a good idea...
will try it also (it's too late to tell someone to call me )
Maybe it could be possible to listen to the ringtones before adding in a future release ? Just as input for you....
what does it mean "choice currently not stored" ? Will the changes be made to the categories, but when you restart your app, you can't see it anymore ? I think it is this way, but i'm not really sure....
Anyway, i like it !
Cheers, Peter

No, it just means that your preferences aren't stored, including where you tell the app to look for the ringtones. Your contacts will be set to the new ringtones you ask for and will stay this way, even after a reset.

Sorry, I forget to mention that the app requires the .net compact framework 2.0 to be installed, perhaps this is giving you the error. Download link added to first post.

wm6 should have 2.0 by default. at least on official rom. I believe the bape rom should also have it. Anyway, I will try 2.0 out tonite and report later.

No, please try it out and let us know if possible!
If you just want to test the app, you could always add a contact to a new category, for example, "Test". Then just run the app and assign all contacts in category "Test" to a ringtone. If the contact you changed is successfully updated then the program works for you! If not, no harm done.
Do let us know if you have success.

It is perhaps to do with the recorded version number of your ROM and the settings for my CAB file.
Can you post the exact error message that you are receiving, along with when you are receiving it? Then I can try and help you.
C
It didn't work on my Prophet running WM6.
The program itself works, and assigns the correct ringtone to each category, but when a person calls, the default ringtone that is set in sounds & notification is played instead of the category ringtone assigned.
In each contact's information, the correct ringtone for that category is assigned. But it doesn't play that tone when that person calls.
When I open someone's contact detail and tap the ringtone, the left softkey changes to "play". When I tap that, there's no sound.
However, if I assign that same ringtone manually in the contact details, it plays when I tap "Play"
Hope you understand what I mean...

Thank you - if only all bug reports were that detailed!
Can you confirm that you're running v0.2 of the program? There was a bug in v0.1 that caused this behaviour. (see first post for download link)

Hi carlosp,
Yes, v0.2 works perfectly. Thanx for this app! It really saves us the chore of having to assign a ringtone for each contact individually.
Now, I'm trying to decide if I still need innesoft address book...

No problem - let me know if you have any bug reports or more feature requests. I was thinking perhaps add an 'Any Category' option in the drop down, so that it's possible to unassign ringtones from all contacts in order to clear everything off and start again.
Hi,
something strange happened: I flashed my prophet to Prophet Touch VII ROM (I was on v6 before), and the Tone Manager didn't work.
Ran the program as usual, but after that I got the same problem as described in my post above. The ringtones are assigned to each contact but doesn't play during the incoming call. Exactly the same prob as in v01.
Strange....??? it was working before on my previous ROM....
A request: the folder is not saved but always reverts back to \windows\rings at each opening of the program. I have mine in the SD card... can you make the prog save the SET FOLDER?
Thanx...
EDIT: I re-downloaded the program from your website and re-installed it, and it works! Very strange, maybe the file in my PC got corrupted or something...

i think this is like RINGO but ringo is better coz u can classify also which sms tone u like for individual or group.
I guys
I´ve been searching for similar issues but I wasn´t able to find anything related.
I'm using the Shadow CE , and my voice mail is facing the following issue:
when I type the numbers using the dialpad to access te diferent options given by operator these keys seem to be dead as I'm not able to execute anything inside my voice mail.
E.g. - To hear my messages I need to press 1 which I do but with any effect.
Anyone has faced this before ?
Thanks in advance.
All the best
Pedro
Long tones versus short tones?
Hello ribasnet, you may try to change the keypad tones in the options of your dialer - I'm not running this ROM so I can't check it, but if I remember correctly the dialer defaults to short tones (many automated systems can't 'hear' the short tone) - give it a try and see if it works
Good luck!

Hello,
is there a way (software or setting) to configure my Wallaby (with PPC2002 or WM2003) that any incoming sms is forwarded to a defined number?
Thanks for any answer
Best regards
nobody an idea how to do that?
wallaby is the first htc phone out and a pretty dead device
I would
1 use search and look in the forum search for any info about forward calls
2 ask in another forum as forwarding of sms's would likely be a general wm thing rather then a spec wallaby thing
Hello Rudegar,
thanks for your answer.
The forwarding of calls is not really a problem.
But the forwarding of sms is one!
I have found some programs that can do automatic sms forwarding, but the problem is that they don't work with WM2003 or PPC2002 (the two OS for Wallaby).
Now i'm searching for a program that works on WM2003 or PPC2002!
I know that this device is very old, but i only want that this device forwards my calls and sms! So this device would be the whole time in the cradle. And i would use another device "Samsung Omnia" for working with it. So i think it would be a little bit to expensive to buy a new device only for being in the cradle and forwarding sms and calls!
I hope you know what i mean!
Best regards
Andy
i've not seen any .net sdk code that can handle sms for wm02/3, just the pocketoutlook for wm5/6.
i could be missing it, but goodchance you're going to be out of luck.

I bought txtForward. It forwards incoming text messages (with an option for outgoing as well) to an email address. So, since all my "phones" have at least exchange/active sync support, i get my text messages delivered to my email that i am always connected to. Good enough.
