Hello,
Sorry if this is basic stuff, but I can't figure out how to use a user-made wav file as a notification, for example for sms or new email. I can only use my wavs for incoming calls...
Regards,
FAS
Drop the wav file into the windows folder of the xda. Then go to 'sounds & notifications' and choose your wav for incoming sms etc.
DT
yes, that's what I also expected it to be like, but no, it does not work for me.. have you tried it??
Fred
Just to confirm - I also don't get any wav file options other than the ones in ROM (on 3.14.13ENG, radio 4.08 ).
Is this another Misrosoft "Our regression testers were unable to spot this because they tripped over their big shoes and their car fell apart again" or has it always been so in other ROM versions?
My ROM is 3.14.13 ENG and all I did was copy my wav file into the \Windows folder using the Cut & Paste facilities in File Explorer.
Once the file was there I went to
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications
The drop-down selector shows all files in the \Windows folder that have a .wav extension, so I can use my wav for any event in the list, including "Inbox: New SMS message"
That's bizarre. I really don't get any additional wave files. I thought it might be a particular file stopping the rest from loading, but I removed all other wave files except the default ones in ROM and added the 'old phone' from the ringtone pack: it still failed to show any except the defaults.
'Scuse me already if this is insulting, but you're not relying on the 'Add ring tone' feature are you?
The system can search all memory and find any wavs and then use them as ring tones where ever they are in the file system, but Sounds&Notifications can only see the wavs that are physically stored in the \Windows folder in the filesystem.
Don't worry, no offence taken. Yep they're in the \windows folder.
OK, now we're moving away from XDA specifics, but what about the file format?
You said you'd made them yourself. I'm wondering if the XDA does anything to check for valid content rather than just listing all files with a .wav extension. I'm thinking if yours are not plain vanilla .wav format the XDA might be rejecting them and not adding them to the drop-down list.
Can you tap on the file in File Explorer and hear it play OK?
AHA! Got it!
It's an O2/MS 'Lets give the task of creating the new PPC ROM to the cleaning staff' problem.
Basically, the wave files contained in the PPC Ringtones pack from Microsoft have been incorporated into this ROM release.
Unfortunately (for reasons only known to the developers and their keepers) they were copied with a space after the filename, before the extension, e.g. "OldPhone .wav"
Some lame code in the list populate must trim the filename, then look for it again, and skip the file.
So the - assumedly perfectly formatted - Ringtone pack wave files I was looking for just don't show up.
Simply create a copy of them without the space, and they show up fine.
P.S. Everything you read in Dilbert cartoons is 100% true.
Ahaa.... Funny thing... it's the easiest things that become the most difficult problems...
THANKS!!
don't quite understand
HI
Read with interests all the postings on this thread.
Could someone tell me how the ringtones work? I believe the wav files are in the windows directory and when you "add ringtones", where do the files go to? I can see a Rings folder inside the windows directory; is it where the added ringtone wav files go to?
I couldn't quite understand the previous thread on leaving a space before the extension. Is it necessary to have wav files like this before the xda recognises as a proper wav file?
Thanks
Vic
I think the .wav files found and selected get added to some registry setting maybe (guessing) as I didn't find any copies made when I did it.
It's decidedly not necessary to have spaces in the file name - that's what trips it up! the space effectively ends one file name, so with "foo .wav" the file system would be looking for a file called foo (no extension) and another file called (empty) with an extension of .wav :?
As a thanks for all who replied:
Here is a great wav for incoming sms:
grab the second to last one, stworf.wav

Hi Zendrui,
I just want to report something posted many times by other users, but never fixed.
Version 5.5 has a problem with wav files. After I don't exactly know what (maybe a conflict with a new application just installed...), PZP starts ignoring wav files: the list in the combobox contains only wma files (it doesn't matter where the wav files are - windows, rings or both folders).
The problem is that PZP makes also other applications to ignore wav files: for ex. the OS itself cannot find any wav files and resets the ring to the default one.
I'm quite sure that the problem is caused by PZP; infact as soon as I uncheck PZP from the today item list (so that the program is no longer running) everything gets back to normal.
I had the same problem in other differnt older versions of PZP.
Zendrui... great job anyway... you've done one of the most useful applications... why don't you try to fix this anomaly?...))
Sorry...
Wrong forum....
my apologies...
Hi everybody
first of all i want to say TNX to all the wonderful people here, who make my HD2 experience so much better
i have a good question which i bet other HD2 owners are struggling with:
i keep my mp3 files stored on my SD card.
Q: i can't seem to find a way to set a certain picture to a certain song in the music player (instead of the default picture of the note icon).
what i'v tried up until now:
- i went to My Device\MUSIC and saw the way the original (crappy) song is set with its own picture, and tried to set my mp3 file the same way with it's own picture, but - no luck, still the annoying note icon..
so.. i give up for now, hopefully someone knows the answer to my question here
thanks allot guys
I think I've got the solution:
Settings -> Manage Applications -> Media Storage and choose clear data, this will wipe the media library database from the phone.
you then have to power down and reboot. Now when you open the music app it will rebuild its database.

SORTED! tnx to Wilco!
Wilco you are the man
i didn't find a way to delete the media library database from the phone, the solution presented in the thread is meant to work with another HTC device which has different settings, BUT - the issue was the same -
in order to show a photo instead of the default note icon in the music player htc devices require an image called "folder.jpg" located in every folder which contains mp3's, this is the picture which will be shown as the album picture. so in order to show a different picture for every album the albums must be in different folders.
there is a certain BUG which occures when there is no folder.jpg file in the folder containing the mp3 file and you try to add it later, the device has a DB that records every folder you create and it doesn't remember a folder.jpg file in that particular folder so it will not show a picture even if you add one, i still havn't figured out way to clean that DB, anyway, by simply putting a folder.jpg with your choice of image and changing the folder's name to another one, the device will recognize this as a brand new folder and tada! album picture is presented
hope we helped you guys!
thanks!!

Hey guys,
So I have a bunch of photos of my niece living on my phone, which my sister sent to me via MMS. It's been a while since my HD2 got flashed and it's acting really flaky and NEEDS to be flashed, but I don't want to do so while these picture messages are living on that handset. I know I can save the photos one at a time, but that's an incredibly tedious task that I'm looking to avoid.
I've looked around for MMS backup software for WinMo 6.5 and have found none. However, it stands to reason that MMS messages live somewhere in the file system, since I can pull out my SIM and MicroSD card and still view them just fine. Therefore, I'm asking the awesome XDA-Developer community if there is a means by which to either batch back up MMS messages from Windows Mobile 6.5 (I'm even willing to pay a modest fee for software for this task), or if there's a folder location somewhere in the Windows Mobile folder tree that I can drag and drop via activesync. Google reveals little of relevance, and T-Mobile seemed to think I had audacity for calling and daring to ask for tech support when I wasn't running the stock ROM >.<.
Thanks guys (and girls)!
Joey
SOLVED!
I managed to solve my own issue =) It's a bit more complicated than I would have thought, but it did work =)
Step 1: Mount your device with Activesync.
Step 2: Navigate to the My Documents\UA Contents folder, and drag the "MMS UA" folder to your desktop.
Step 3: Go to this site: http://wargolet.com/wm6/ and download the "MMS Extractor" application. It's a tiny .exe file.
Step 4: Run the application, and choose "Process Folder". Navigate to the MMS UA folder, and pick a file. It will process all the .dat files it can read.
Step 5: Enjoy all the .JPEG MMS files extracted off your phone =)
Hope it helps someone else! I donated a few bucks to the guy since he solved a problem for which there are plenty of Google search results, but no good tutorial for =).

A good option for backup of all email sms mms is SPB Backup.
Although for your particular needs the tool you found seems pefect.
I ran into a few syncing problems after downloading some watch face from the internet and it makes me wonder...is it safe to use the custom watch faces on some random website or links? Is there any possibility something bad might come from the script files in the watch faces?
IDK, most of them are fairly simple xml files. If you suspect it you can open .wfz same as zip file, look into files and folders structure.
xml files just point to various display features, x,y, where to place them, folder for digital, analog dials and bg images.
There's no 'suspicious' code in them as far as I seen.
Again, this goes for .wfz clockfaces ... I think there are some .apk watchfaces too, for custom rooted Paces , I think those can be safe or not.
