restore after rom xda developers update - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I`ve recently installed the xda developers rom and its absolutly brilliant. the only problem is that when i restore my xda after the update from a back up using active sync. my xda just goes back to how it was before, and although the cool utils are still stored in rom and i can access them through file explorer the brilliant today screen and the like have gone. can i get round this problem, or will i have to manually install all my software and phone numbers again. thanks for the help .....Robbo

Yeap the restore from a backup is not good!
So yes, you'll have to manually reinstall it all.. At lease Activesync will handle the phone numbers, Task, appointment after you setup a new partnership.

[Q] not receiving texts/calls. help?

for the second time in the last two months, I have begun not receiving texts or calls on my HTC Droid Eris running KaosFroyo v38. I hesitated and eventually decided against posting it there because I can't be sure it's anything in his ROM causing the issue (I may have been running Tazz's Froyo w/ Sense ROM the first time it happened).
I can send texts fine, and people are receiving them, but when they reply, I get absolutely nothing. I can make calls fine as well. When someone tries to call me, their phone says their call cannot be completed (this has only been tested with one phone).
This is becoming quite debilitating because I don't even know when people are trying to contact me, so any help would be appreciated.
NOTE: I have already tried activating the phone through Verizon. Hasn't helped.
I had a similar problem I wasn't receiving text messages. I ended up having to use the flashback21 rom. Everything is fine now.
what does that ROM do?

Any 2.1 sense based rom should fix your problem. You can make a nand of your current setup, flash any 2.1 rom you want boot it check text or phone call and then restore your nand backup for froyo. This should solve the problem but doesn't actually fix why it happened in the first place. How did you get them to start working again the first time? Most people that I've seen with this problem did this "reset" and I hadn't heard of the problem reoccurring but I wouldn't consider it a permanent fix. I personally have no idea what could be happening...not sure if Verizon is not seeing the phone as active since it doesn't have official software or what but I'm pretty sure it's something happening on their end and would have no idea of a way to prevent it unfortunately.
Edit: And you are correct it's not really a KaosFroyo issue as much as just a Froyo issue.
I'll use this opportunity to ask this: how does the NAND backup work (I think I've seen it in the recovery menu, but never used it), and also: whats the best way to backup/restore my apps and settings?

If you boot to recovery and you will see the nand option then you can choose nand backup....it will backup everything on the phone in it's current state including apps, settings, text messages and all. When you are ready to restore it you go back into recovery and back to nand and choose restore. You will only have one if this is your first time doing it but it will say BDS-XXXXXXXX where the x's are numbers that represent the date and time you made the backup(note the number of x's i put there is not the exact amount there will be). Anyway you choose that backup and it will ask if you want to restore it simalar to how it asks when you go to flash a rom. Its really a very simple process and very handy to have a backup. You can make as many backups as you can fit on your card. You can also copy the backups off the card to your pc if you want too.
wow. no more "app backup" apps from the Market for me! thanks for being so quick and helpful! Luckily, attempting to make a call just a second ago caused the phone to crash and reboot, which apparently fixed the problem (I got a boatload of texts as soon as the phone rebooted). Weird.

lol yeah rebooting the phone is always the first thing to try....nand does not replace backup apps though. It only backs them up for that current rom. When you restore a nand it restores the rom that was on the phone when you made the nand so you can't use it to back up info going from one rom to another or upgrading to a newer version of the rom because the nand will just reinstall the old rom.

You can use Titanium Backup, which is extremely popular. There's a free version on the market but I think the free version only does one app at a time. There's also My Backup Pro. Also here on xda you can find QtADB, which, while the phone is connected to the computer, you can use to backup and restore apps and their data. I actually like this way best so far. The backup files are still on your SD card, you just control the backup and restore from the computer.
It sounds like it may be stuck in EVDO only. If your ROM has EPST maybe you can change it.

with My Backup Pro (I'm going to download the root version), how do I wipe the phone without wiping the MBP app? do I just flash a new rom, re-download the app, and restore?

Yes, exactly. There are other ways, but that's the simplest. You're welcome!

Forgot my WebOS password anyway to recover it or reset it when in Android?

I'm running CM7 and hadn't been back into WebOS since the first day I got the device. When I went back in this morning it had an unlock password. I tried everything I thought I would have set. So i'm locked out of WebOS. Does anyone know how I can recover the password or change the password or disable to lock while in CM7? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I faced this today. Went surfing and can't find a easy way out .
What I later did is to run cwm backup, run Web doctor, redo novacom after putting cwm and moboot into cminstall, restore Cm7 from cwm backup.
Everything came back nicely

OK I'll give it a try thanks. Did it wipe any data from your Android install? I think it would be really cool if someone could figure out a way to do this when in Android as well.
Why not go online to HP and have them resend it to you. Its easy and also this is a good way to protect if it gets stolen.

Just to make sure, mount as USB mass storage after cwm backup, Copy your backups, anything important stored on the fake sdcard /media etc (I used titanium to backup my apps also so copied the backups for this too ) before running novacom.
From my 1 time experience, the Android partition was gone, only the fake sdcard was left untouched. That's why I suggest cwm backup restore method.
Also, after restoring Android and confirmed it's working, boot Webos to properly setup the account. The other time I just installed cm without bothering with WebOS, thus ended up with a unexpected lock up like you.

Nope,no way to recover it except you accidentally delete it manually, recover it back using Recuva...
Try to use Recuva to check deleted file, who know you might found it and recover it back

been there done that buddy.
just remember, everytime you update a new rom or flash a new rom, always make a backup of your apps using titanium backup recommended (need root) because it said it will wipe phone memory data which means it will delete your google market account therefore, your downloaded apps will be lost.
nothing we can do here

Recuva can't access Android root at all.
To Izzy - That's the problem with trying to root .62/.69 via downgrading method
Ok, thanks for help

I was having a similar issue and found that apps like titanium backup may restore a system app from another rom that would make my phone act like your phone. Do you use titanium backup?

[Q] How to recover contacts from crashed phone

So, my x10 crashed 2 months ago and I'm really eager to recover the contacts from the phones memory. Have tried searching for a way to do this but so far I haven't. The phone is stuck in a reboot loop, but I hope the data is still there to be recovered somehow. The only backup I have is a 5month+ old .sbf file, and I'm having trouble restoring the contacts from that on my new phone.
I KNOW now, that I maybe should have backed up more frequently to google (last done in december 2011..) but the sbf file is what i have that is recent. Any suggestions/threads/tools for this?

If your phone is backed up with your google play account then you should just use the email in another phone and you will restore your contacts if not then not so likely

Looking for a way to extract the user data partion from the phone
If You can access the phones memory go to data>data folder and search for the phone folder. There should be a whole database of Your contacts

I hope You have root and USB debugging enabled.
If so, You can use my program to connect the phone in xrecovery mode and access the system files.
If You don't have root, You can try to root it, install good kernel (like doomkernel), backup Your current os, flash new ROM and restore the data.
Here's how to root the phone: http://adfoc.us/4207223735421
