Telephone recorded - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Does anybody know of a program for the xda that will record the phone conversation. It would be much easy to record all or part of the conversation instrad of taking notes.
Thanks

Nothing needed but the XDA it's self!
Guess waht? The XDA already does that! While you are talking open notes then hit the recorder icon and then the record button and there you have it conversation now being recorded. I use this quite often when consulting or troubleshooting with a client. Make sure to know the law on this matter. Here in the states you must notify the other party they are being recorded! :? Also make sure you have a large SD card and have settings in notes app default to SD. Keeping long conversations on your SD card will soon lead to a conversation not getting recorded due to lack of mem. So shuttle them on to a portable hard disk or desktop hard drive for archiving.

Fantastic... thanks for that. Is there anyway to make it automatic as when i am in the car (its on speaker) its hard do all of that.
Again thanks

You might want to alter the general settings, for the recorder, and choose a lower bitrate and quality. Recording phone conv in stereo and high bit rate will take up space very quickly!

as far as I know there is no way to have a sort of profile that you would in this case call speaker phone. There is a profile app out there. The only thing I know how to do is set speaker phone to default. meaning everytime you answer the phone it is in speaker phone mode. you have to then take it out of speaker phone mde if you do not wish to have your conversation public. I find it easy enough to just hold down the little green phone key for a few seconds activating the speaker phone when ever I need that function. Sorry this is an awsome device but cant do everything  There are car kits you can buy that may add or activate this automatic once put in the car cradle. Sorry it's not cut and dry :?

Thanks again for the comments and for thinking about this problem for me. In short i need to have a setting so that once checked all my calls are recorded automatically. That means when i first get into the van i just check the phone record button and all i have to do is then answer the calls and they are auto recorded.
Again thanks

Hmmm, and how about a program that sits quietly in the background, records all calls, gpg-encrypts them with a supplied public key and at night uses GPRS to post them to alt.anonymous.messages ?
We live in interesting times.

Remind me to never call you
There are some macro apps online you can try that might be smart enough to run this app, start record, and end record once a call is activated and terminated. Do a Google search for pocket pc+macro? Or just hit the software sales vendors sites. What you really need is probably to pay someone to write such a program, and consult a Lawyer regarding the legalities of such an app, not to mention a .wav file that automatically plays to the caller before you start talking, letting them know they are being recorded. Whew! Anything else  I think the XDA can also be used as a marital aid while in vibrate mode:shock: and with some servos, a designated connection, and some Souder you could probably also dial into your home network push 1 to start the coffee maker, 2 to preheat the oven, and 3 to run the bath  No harm intended just expanding your idea here
Regarding your comment XDA-dev* I live in the US and our little Homeland Security Trio is and has probably already been doing this  8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) the black shades are watching you
I know I'm going to hit my head for asking , but why do you need to record all your calls "In The Van"  Hmmm on second thought don't post that after all:mrgreen:
Cheers,
E.

Thanks every for this. I did not want to open a can of ethical worms or think and double think. I am a wine salesman and get order / addresses etc over the phone and its a real pain in the xxx to pull over jot everything down. At the moment i am using a voice recorder where i basically repeat everything into but if the xda could do it all ....
Anyway thanks for the interest and the ideas

Well in fact, you can use any programme that can record, I used something myself, but it was long ago and can't remember the name... it was capable of recording to mp3 directly

Without the use of macros, you will have to manually click the record icon in notes or set a button to begin recording once hit while you are in a call.
Zviratko is referring to the mp3 record program which I can't remember the name either   but I'll post when I find it. This is a good program since MP3's are smaller in size and will use less disk space.

It was some VERY old programme for old WinCE or Pocket PC, for making voice notes...

The recorder program does not sound too bad or the macros... where would i get them from i am not a technical person. Or as somebody point out i could pay to get it done if it was not too much, who could do that. As for the recorder idea my current one (seperate from the xda) is on when i am in the van and is activated only it there is noice. All that means is that i drive around with the radio, another pain but ........
Again thanks and looking forward to your answers.

Here in the states you must notify the other party they are being recorded!

Actually there were only 5 states that required this when I last researched it. In most states as long as one party consents (this can be you), then it is legal. IE, it's only illegal to record someone else's conversations.

Carlos that good to know
Vino do a google search for "Pocket PC software macro(s)" and try starting there.
I was thinking about it and a temp solution until some magic software comes along set your XDA to auto answer in a certian number of rings under the Settings, Phone, More tab.
Then set one of your hardware buttons to record once pressed, under Settings, Buttons.
Now you only have to push "one" button to record your converstions . The program is caled mNote or NoteM. Check the online software vendors for that or just under their search option put mp3 recorder, or just mp3. It will come up.

That is a fantastic solution .... Thanks

I found a program on the xda hotvoice.exe does anybody know what it does and how can you execute it.
Thanks

What I have done is maped one of the botton's the record funtion. Then I just press and hold the button while I want to record.
To get detailed, I usually just repet when the person has said, they think I'm writing it down little do they know I'm recording my voice.
I then sink to my PC later, and create a task, note, email or update an address. delete the note and then resink.
my two cents.... thinks like this is where the true value of an intigrated device is!

Microsoft Voice Command launched

For those of you who are interested, just saw on handango.com their new release.
I will wait for the first reports to pay the $40.- though. No trial.
Gear
So far so good..
Well just installed it a couple of hours ago and I have to admit so far this is pretty nice. No training needed, seems to work pretty good and has been dead on accurate so far.
Couple of initial thoughts on it:
1. Can't assign the button to activate the voice to the volume button, this seems to be an limit of the phone or OS and not the application. Basically you have to press a button that activates the voice command software before you speak, it works well but you can only use the calendar or contact button. Personally I would like to the volume button as I never use it for anything, and it is easily accessible via the thumb.
2. Can't seem to adjust the voice talking to you. I would have personally liked to adjust the ladies voice a little. Its ok though sounds ok though like all computer voices kinda blotchy and stuff.
All in all it is accurate and seems to do what it says. Easily launch applications, find contacts and dial stored contacts or a new number just by speaking.
I tried it, and not impressed.
For some things its accurate, however if all your contacts are english sounding names then its easier. If you have non english names, there is problems with recognition.
Additionally it seemed not to recognise anything with the earphones plugged in, and worse still with any kind of background noise, like in the car, no recognition.
Ive found fonix voicedial to be better.
I had fonix voicedial for a long time and IMO voice command is far superior if you have a lot of contacts. No training needed, from command to dialing the process is much much faster. Plus being able to control media player and view contacts verbally is great!
Does fonix voicedial work with an O2 XDAII ?
I haven't found the answer on there site... or perhaps didn't look well
Free Trial, DL and try it. Should work. It runs PPC2003
Thanks

Cool phone utility!!!

My friend just showed me a real cool phone utility, but unfortunately, it is only for Symbian OS. The application is called Advanced Call Manager (check Handango for detail).
It enables you to set different actions for the groups you have defined - you can accept, reject, forward calls, send personalized SMS etc. And it only costs $19.99. All of a sudden, PocketZenPhone, Caller ID, My Phone Profiles... etc for PocketPC seem so primitive and over-priced.
Does anyone know if there is something equivalent for PPC? If not, I am thinking of trading in my XDAII for a P910i. :?
It's all down to your needs.
Symbian was designed from the ground up to be a phone with advanced PIM-like functionality. It's a Phone first, PDA second.
XDA devices (I'm excluding the smartphone here) are based on the Pocket PC PDAs, So they're PDA first, phone second, so the concentration was originally on portable computer-type functionality. The phone portion was plugged in later.
That's why so many of the 'natural' phone functions that many people are used to in standard mobile phones are absent or different. Apps like PocketZenPhone attempt to add a lot of that functionality.
But it's your money in the end.
SMARTfilter
Maybe you can try this SMARTfilter.
Description:

I've been using this fantastic application for one month and I'm totally satisfied by its operation and function. Very easy, just tap the names of the people you don't wish to talk to, SMARTfilter will do the rest.
Rather than keep your phone unanswered, it will just give out the sound of busy phone or no sound at all to the unwanted caller. It gives the impression of being busy or unreachable, not the impression of being rude. Very useful when dealing with your ex-girfriend, talkactive auntie, insurance agent, and other annoying callers.

[Q] Save a number while on call

Hy everyone,
I've tried searching the forums for a solution but no luck..
Is there any way to save a number while having a conversation?
if i select the "keypad" during a call, and write down a number, there isn't a "save to contacts" option or anything similar to that..
i've fiddled around a bit and the only thing remotely similar to what i need is only an option to save a note during the call, but that is absolutely ridiculous, why would i want to save a note and then go and retrieve it.. i just want to save a contact while talking...
I take it that the phone number you want to save to contacts is different to the telephone call you are currently connected to.
Why not, while on a call, press the Home button, then select the Contacts tab, then select New Contact. You can then write the number in the new contact, along with other details.
hey fred_up thanks for the reply!
actually i did thought of that right after i posted the question, but i just think it's sad that we need to perfotm so many actions in order to do such a simple task... one i used to do once without even taking the phone away from my ear... (and no - i'm not complaining about my hd2, i love it despite its little flaws).
A very handy bit of software is called AutoLoudspeaker - if you do a search, you'll find it on this site. As soon as you take the phone away from your ear (ie the screen lights up via the proximity sensors) the phone goes automatically into loudspeaker mode. That'll take one step out of the process.
No doubt some clever clogs will develop some registry edit that means a long press of the Windows button will open up a new contact page.
Yeh i'm aware of that option, and i use it sometimes when at home, doing the coocking or dishes when the GF is out or while playing pc games but it doesnt really meet my needs when i need to remember a nuber for just a second after i hang up..

Now THAT WOULD BE GENIOUSLY AWESOME!
or maybe even a little app, that is called "numbers" for that matter, which can be located on the home tab and when opening it you'll get a numpad and a screen, and would be able to save numbers in a big font, only numbers, nothing else, the numbers will stay on the screen untill you decide to delete them.
unlike the notepad which saves the notes in a file you need to open, and which is not so finger friendly when coming to fast numbering..
food for thought
maybe i'll just forward the idea to a new app request

may be you can put in a quicklink for 'calculator' on home screen..
I have one, but for that matter - you cannot save numbers you type in the calc, they just vanish once the app is closed, and also - i don't like using things for a purpose they were not meant for, it feels a little stupid..
use panaromic calculator, pressing the x only minimises the program

[Q] Is there a proper Answering Machine app for Android?

I've searched on Goolge, XDA and many other android forums but fail to find a proper Answering Machine app for Android. By Answering Machine I mean the app that acts like a voicemail residing on the phone - I can see many so called Answering Machine apps which auto-respond to calls via predefined SMS <- this is NOT what I'm looking for.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Visual Voicemail?
Yes. Google Voice.
Google Voice has not started in India. I need an offline - standalone app which is not affiliated with any online service.
i don't think there is one mate..... the old symbian Nokias did...
that was because they were able to send sound directly to the caller ... i dunno if its a hardware limitation ... i really hope someone can figure that out...
i remember used to be able to play songs straight to my conversation so they can feel the base and treble more clearly...i miss that function...also the app with background noises to fake ur surrounding.....
i wonder if N8 can do this...?
***EDIT**** oops i realize u meant online service... nevamind... hehe ignore my RANT
Answering machine app? Isn't it just the voicemail itself with pre-recorded greeting message?
Or visual voicemail like someone mentioned before.
Edit: I see you need an offline service. The ones I know all all either bound by carrier or need internet.
Calling developers
When I had a symbian phone, things were so easy. I used IVCM (interactive voice call master) to handle incoming calls.
This app is near to perfection, it can distinguish callers (in address book, in some whitelist, in a blacklist, unknown callers and, last but not least, private numbers)
For any of those you can define a suitable treatment, invoke the answering machine after xx seconds, play a notification then hang up, forward the call to another number, play the busy tone, and more options.
Furthermore you can schedule the behaviour, so the phone switches to answering machine at once during the night, let only friends reach you in the evening etc...
Outgoing messages can be personalised by address group, country (=different language!), friends, private number callers etc..
It can also record a call (incoming, outgoing or both) without beeps.
This is a call to the Android developer community. Please build us an app with a similar usability, picking things up where IVCM stopped.
I will be your first customer and prepared to pay well for it!
Have you tried youmail from android market?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
cannot work due to technical reasons
yep, I had the same kind of soft on my symbian, it was called Advanced Call Manager (ACM). The same soft exists for Android, so I tried it, but no answering machine on the Android version. I asked the developer team, and they told me it's not possible on Android.
this is confirmed by several posts

it's the only feature I miss since I switched over from my symbian phone
youmail? the would be something to post in the android section of xda not the vibrant section. Also since you are looking for India specific stuff it would get a wider audience of people around the world
Hi there
I was looking for the same, and found a old solution.
The Name is airvoice, but works only on rootet Phone and only on the old Android Hero mobile.
I asked the developer to continue his great work. He seems to be dissapointet, that so many people votet his app so bad in the market.
So if you guys also try to contact the developer (through the contact inf's on the Market) maybe he will continue?
Greetings to you all!

i used BEST ANSWERING MACHINE on symbians, for answering my calls during my work time, and i used to listen and respond accordingly to the recorded calls. i seriously think symbians was the smartphone,
androids not.
i dont want ease of facebook on the go, i want ease of phone on the go. i want SMARTphone, not the handy pc for accessing rich websites on the go.
i ended up buying a second hand nokia e72 for managing my life while mm on work,
i have android ASUS ZENFONE 4.5
and Apple 5s but nowhere i found reliable answering machine,
the solution i found is going back to symbians to manage my calls.
Sony Xperia Z series have built in Answering machine... I know that can be ported to other rooted Android Phones as well. But dont know how to do it.
If some God can port this.iT ll be great and I am Ready to Pay. Or Somebody guide me.. with how to Mod Links.I'll try.
I used to have the Note3 LTE ..I loved it very much..but no ans machine..so now i bought Xperia Z and Happy LIfe..
No more unattended calls from unknown numbers.
i found this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pmiyusov.mvm&rdid=com.pmiyusov.mvm
2 things that i found with this, the caller could here the greeting, but the greeting is played out loud in the phone,( so cant be used in meetings) and it failed to record the message( i did not tinker with the settings, so cant really say that the app is non-functional). BUT this does look like someone is trying, so kudos to the developer.
I use a galaxy s3 with installer version of cyanogen.
Im looking for this too. I had the app call Autopilot answering machine on my n82 (maybe now it has been abandoned). Just let me explain the feature of this app because it cannot be compared to 100% to Google Voice:
1) You can record your own voice as the answering machine to block call and play your own voice when someone call you. Example "Hello dude I'm not available right now please leave a message". Of course I was able to set only specific contact with that voice.
2) the app able to auto record voice too.
3) perhaps this is hardware limitation because the app can mute your mic when answering machine is executed (so that the receiver only can hear your answering machine voice).
I was looking for this app for a long time. I dont think it exist. Maybe not possible.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Can anyone help me have that?
Developer prefer to dev game because it is useful than visual voicemail. If you want to use voicemail, you can come back to Symbian.
Forward incoming calls app is the solution to me
Hello, I've been looking for that too.
I think that an alternative may be to divert the call to a mailbox a voip service or conventional telephone answering service.
This will cost and will require an extra line (or the use of electronics own line desk), but it is what I mean when possible.
For this I will use a call forward app with rules, as QuickCallForward or other, with more filtering rules. Some app with whitelist, blacklist, unknown, scheduler for use in specific times and days.

[Q] Looking for an app to record phone calls

Hello
I'm trying find a working app for voice call recording (both ways - in and out and both parties - me and other person)
So far I've tried several from top search result in market "call recording", but none of them worked at all on stock rom v2.2.2 (no sound)
Does anyone know any working and preferable free app that can do it?
Thank you.
I don't thing there is any app for that in the market. I know if you tweak kernel and add some mods then you will be able to record calls (like in some HTC desire Hd roms)
Sent from Motorola Atrix
Oh, that doesn't sound good...is that because of some kind of security?
Messing with kernels is out of my leage.
As I recall from prior discussions, many states require one or both sides of the phone call to accept that the call is being recorded before recording can be done. Then there are additional rules on whether or not you can record both sides of the conversation. It is a legal mess that would probably deter any legitimate effort to make a phone have full recording abilities.
That's what was discussed anyway, it doesn't change the fact that my dumbphones from years ago can record everything without any app or modification! Perhaps though since their recording quality was crap it didn't count haha.
Maybe he wants to record phone sex?
The hardware isn't there for it on the atrix if I remember correctly unless you use speaker phone you only end up recording your section of the call.
The law its different per state (in the usa) some allow with no notification others require a beep some need one or both parties to be notified
Basically, the functionality doesn't exist in the Android SDK. What broken calls do exist in the SDK, they're crippled by the fact that manufacturers and carriers make their own radio firmwares and your radio firmware must support recording in order to actually tap into the hardware microphone and hardware earpiece. Some apps will attempt to record from the speakerphone playback but it's ****. Most everyone I know who is actually recording their calls either uses a non-Android phone (Nokia N900 comes in handy here). Google voice can record calls but it will make an audible announcement to both parties which, in states like Arizona, is not legally necessary. Other than that, your next best bet is to record the call using a landline.
I noticed something in the changelog of the EternityProject Kernel..
ALSA: Support for concurrent playback/record

There is nothing in law regarding beeps. I have no idea where people get that one from, but I see it a lot.
The laws differ state to state from requiring only one parties consent to requiring all parties consent, and generally goes by the law in the state of the person recording. In any case you have to be one of the parties involved in the call, (and can therefore give your consent if the one party law applies). You cannot record other people on their private calls if you are not one of the active call participants. There are no states which allow "no notification" for private parties. There are one person and all person regulations/laws, meaning one person must consent, or all must consent.
There is also federal law which can be cited to overrule state law dependent on the court case.
The only time that calls can be recorded without anybodies consent is when it is business related and is the norm for all calls to be recorded. You are expected to realize that you could be recorded. The reason you usually get a message first telling you that recording will take place is more of a courtesy.
In my case I need call recording for when I forward my land line to my cellphone while traveling and unable write things down. Combine this with bad memory in general, now you have this urge have such feature...Feel like that guy from movie "Memento"...
P.S.
So much for that "law" when all our calls are monitored and recorded anyhow...

Does your landline service offer voicemail text translation? I use Vonage for land based calls, and have used the text translation. It works pretty damn well.
There is a difference between voicemail and actual conversation

What app allows you to record with the speaker phone going? I've tried a couple but it glitches out. Looking to do a interview for a student newspaper, so I'm not too worried about privacy.
