OK, I receive an SMS, it shows me the time received (I know this already as it makes a noise - I recorded a wav file of my Nokia 6310 going beep-beep,,,beep-beep), but when was the SMS sent? I select details on the message and in the Sent: field it shows me - the time received!!
This is either a bug or I am psychic and turn my phone on every time my girlfriend SMS's me. Am I the next Uri Geller or is there a fix?
This is no use!!
Suggestions, ladies and gentlemen?
(....and I STILL can't get PhonExt to play the right ring tones for callers, its ALWAYS the default ring!!!!!)

I am VERY happy with my xda Atom Life, but I am having a serious problem not getting voicemail alerts. I've read prior posts about this, and have given up expecting to find a way to get the standard "message tape" icon from T-Mobile. Feeling clever, I decided a great work-around was to go with YouMail - have my voicemails directed to the Youmail service where they in turn immediately send a standard text message alerting me that I have a voicemail. Well - wouldn't you know it - for some strange reason I don't get the voicemail text message alerts either! I DO get general text messages (friends, etc); in fact, EVERYTHING works great, but it's as if the Gods above are intent that I will never again be alerted to my voicemails by any method (T-Mobile basic VoiceMail or YouMail). Is there ANY work-around? Is there a common denominator here that I'm missing (other than I'm not getting voicemail alerts from two different services who use two different alerting protocols?) I'm completely stumped and have invested hours into this problem already.
Thanks for any guidance/ideas/clues,
Lee

Could it be that my MMS settings are set to Vodafone (Australia)? I'm in the USA. My modem configuration is correct and I breeze through the internet (via Edge) plus get emails no problem. Is it possible that YouMail sends its text messages MMS instead of SMS?

(sigh)
Oh well - I continue to miss my voicemails and have to keep calling in to see if any are waiting. I'm beginning to not like my xda anymore...
I have the same problem and it is driving me nuts!
I have tried all of the above. The only other option is a program called isecretary . The only realtime voice machine avail for ppc but the program is buggy and also cost minutes as it answers all calls and lets you hear the other end leave the message so you can screen the calls you want to answer and which ones you want to not answer...
My work-around
Finally got YouMail to work - the folks at YM tech support were very helpful, and it turned out all I needed was a reset of the YouMail account. So far it has been working perfectly for a week. Great voicemail service - and it's free! Sends me a text message immediately upon receipt of a voice message telling me who called. All it costs me is the text message - and with a text message package add-on, it's only $5 more a month.
Hi there..
I have the t-mobile G2 TOUCH, hero that is, and I cant seem to find out how I could change the ringtone for my notifications.
The thing is. When I change it like it should normaly work, it keeps on giving me the lousy and way to loud t-mobile notification sound.
when i receive a mail it does give the chosen sound, but when i receive a text message it gives me the **** t-mobile tone again.
I did i guess everything i could (to getting the maps on the root for ringtone, alarm and notifications. I can see the files, but like i said before, i only hear them on my email receiving and not my text messages.
anyone familiar with this problem and if so, got an answer, or should i go back to the store and swap the fone now it is still possible...
thnx
The message tone is different to the notification tone. Go to messages - menu - settings - sound and change it there.
you most definetly are my hero
alsmost returned the poor thing haha
i never guessed that nor would i have found that one!
many thanks
Your welcome
Hi guys, It's possible to know the times of the message has been sent?
when i turn on my x10, it only shows the times of the messages are being received. It does matter to me when the message is being sent.
for example: if someone send a message for an emergency at 1pm, and fews hours later, you turn your phone on and see the times of the message being received on your x10 which is quiet late for an emergency.
On my N97. It does have this feature which is very useful to me.
Just long press on the message and you should get a pop up with View Message Details and it gives you the time.
On the Handcent SMS app which I prefer to the stock app, it gives you a time just above the speech bubble containng the message on the thread.

Click to collapse
thanks for your input, but i dont think you understand my question.
This also annoys me. Every phone I have ever had has been able to show me the time the message was sent, not just received. But even when long pressing and then selecting 'Message Details', it still only shows the time it was received, annoying!
still no one can answer this?? that's suck
Every time I restart my phone I receive the last txt message sent to me from the same contact. IE. The same person sends me a txt every morning, it is a different txt everyday. Now when I restart my phone it always NOTIFIES me I have a txt from this person. that txt will be the last txt they sent. It only happens with this 1 contact. Any help is appreciated.
Hello all,
I am since 3 days a proud owner of a S3
I found how to define an own ringtone to a single contact.
But today I was very surprised when I received a SMS the same ringtone which I expected only for incoming calls was ringing.
Does anyone know how to make it JUST incoming calls not all incoming activities of this contact?
Thanks
No one knows anything about it or is interessted in?
Dunno how or why you have the same ringtone as your SMS for your contact.
I've set a specific ringtone for my contacts and it's worked fine for me, SMS ringtones are the default one I set.
If you haven't tried already, go to the contact, press the menu button, Edit, then check to see the ringtone of the specific contact.
Hope that helps, if you have done this already and still getting the same ringtone for your SMS, it might be worth backing up your device, contents, contacts, then resetting the device again.
OK, I iopend contacts, klicked on the contact which I adressed a special ring tone.
in the list of the contact data there is a field ring tones, which gives me a choise of 3 (standard, ringtones, own files). I did choose the ringtone and it workes fine for incomming calles BUT it works unfortunatelly also for incoming sms or whatsapps ....
Is there no other solution except resetting?
I have fear resetting my device ... It is my first Android and I am not really familar with everything....
