XDA Pcmcia?

Hi.
I used to own a 5450 but I had to sell it in April to raise costs for the wedding. However, I have just picked up a new o2 Xda for £100 at work - but I miss the functionality that the ipaq offered with regards to expansion packs!
Is there anything on the market that would allow a pcmcia device to be attached to the Xda?
Thanks
No, there isn't. Yes, this is annoying.
still .... ive seen the ipaq with its expansion sleeve. You need a backpack to carry it!
thanks for the feedback. Just would be nice to have the Orinoco working with the Xda. Still shouldn't complain - blasted the xda with the special edition rom and that Orange sim card loves it's new home.
Besides the lack of exp packs - my first impression of the XDA? Why didn't I buy one sooner?
cheers

Yeah it does look nice. the only con I can see from the specs is the 64MB SDRAM. It should have been loaded with a 128MB and it will be the godzilla of all ATOMS hehehe
some little add-ons left by MWg that was not integrated with the atom v
* a standard 3.5mm jack would be nice as well
* where's the IR? no more novII remote hehehe
Very nice...love that it has gps!
Seems it will be released in feb...I'll be getting one then
and its quite cheap! AU$839. htc touch cruise will be $1159!
Looks like it is QVGA (320x240)
thinks the Zinc II is nicer...
It be great if CPU up to 624Mhz and 1GB ROM like Atom Life and plus 128MB Ram
Love that camera is 3M Pixel
Don't know why they put gprs onto it but not increase cpu speed/ storage for big gps apps/ RAM for fast cache
Is it 520Mhz cpu perform faster or better than Atom Life??
Although i like the look of Atom Exec than Life or V
In my though
It will perfectly for me if
- CPU Better than or Equal 624MHz
- RAM >= 128MB
- ROM >= 512MB
- OS >= WM6
- GPS built in
- Camera >= 3MP (Better if 4MP or 5 MP) with better Zoom function
- Better Speaker than current Atom
- Less power comsumption (Conflict with CPU Speed) or Greater Battery
- LCD more than 2.8"
- Better HeadSet and can use with 3rd Party stereo earphone with FM enable through it
- Better Bluetooth Stack for Better music via bluetooth stereo with FM enable through it
I'm greedy ..... he he he
hehe, I like your suggestions! Also needs:
- 640x480 resolution screen
- Infared (only so I can use novii remote)

Yeah... was going to get a HTC cruise but the Orbit II, Atom V and Zinx II all tick the right boxes for my needs... Would agree the Zinc II look very sexy
Doh, specs have changed to 2MP camera...

I have said I won't buy any other Atom, just look at the popularity of AtomExec and its supports that we are getting.
You sure want to go there again?
MWG stated, that the new devices are from Arima and Gigabyte and they don't longer have a partnership with Quanta and Asustek.

had an 02 Atom for 20 months now and very happy with except the IR cover fell out... kept 02 ROM updates and has been stable with very little resets (could go many months with one). As with anything that becomes popular (aka iPod) there are going to be issues. Believe they really need to get their service game in order and hopefully MWg is more than a name change and fix that ... but they are coming out with some good looking/spec devices... Zinc II, Orbit II (HTC Touch Cruise) Atom V etc... because of my experience would consider but understand others may not .... we can only base on our own experience and mine is yes would go there again

Not going to argue with you. One of my friend is very happy running with his Windows 2000 and couldn't get him moved to XP even with a gun pointing at his head. Different strokes for different folks. But, being a Computer Junkie, I can guess what majority of the people like or dislike in gadgets and very seldom err.
AtomExec is very sexy, I paid HKD5,900 for it so you can estimate the time frame. Mind you that I already had an Dopod 818, an Treo650 and an O2 xda (818pro). The logic of wanting an AtomExec is like wanting a hole in my head. Tat tells you I am an early adapter and don't mind to pay for something I like. Its screen is smaller and darker screen than I would like. But the built quality and size is perfect for my taste. I also bought a custom high capacity battery and a nice leather case for it. However, AtomExec freezes quite bit, not fast enough even with 520Mhz because I have to hang another language platform in it to use in China. The company hardly put out any updates. If they had responded to any question, the answer was usually "No' or "We have not planned for it." or similar. I am fairly sure non-geek phone users will go for iPhone. Geeks will go for HTC's more advance phones. Of course there will be some left for Atom's family.
My Kaiser has 3 meg pixel camera which can take a picture of a business card and put the name, phone numbers .... , company name into the contact book directly. When I am lost, I turn on its GPS and walk 10 Meters and I know whether I am on the right track. I have the entire China map in it. It supports 8G microSD card and I put hours of MP3 in it. Its bluetooth support stereo.
Scrolling command dial, many hardware buttons, screen is bright, response is quick, good size storage memory. Qualcom 400Mhz CPU has dual-core, an ARM9 and ARM6 built-in. Plus, important for some folks, ton's of fans keep making it to have better and better features or looks.
Yes, there is something I don't like about it. It does not have an infrared port. Integrated mini plug does not allow charging and listening music at the same time while sitting at a desk (need to get a 3rd party adapter RMB25) and I don't need the sliding keyboard.
-------------------
There are only two guys, wonderful people in AtomExec circle who dedicated their time putting out two near-final WM6 ROM's but all other HTC phones have more ROM's than you want to count.
Again, if Atom V has the Kaiser hardware, I won't mind go for it immediately. But with its middle of the road hardware and past customers supporting records, unless its price are low enough, I would wait...
It is just my 2 cents, I respect your feeling toward your Atom!

For a confessed tecno person a liitle bit upset you are trading in old currency and such a low denomination like your opinon should be worth at least a 1930's penny's value also like new technology...
if the atom v comes in at $835 (as have seen) it is cheap with the specs as i paid $1200 AUD for the original atom ... but will upgrade after seeing the short list of Atom V, the zinc II & touch cruise but from there who knows... might be happy like your mate in 5 years saying .. nah, why upgrade it does all i want it to do ... then you can roll your eyes at our buying for needs mentality and say get with the program ...

palah, everyone has his own opinion, but most of what jychan28 said is right. I am an O2 Atom user since Atom. However, O2 has a lousy after sales service. I am stuck up with Atom Exec at the moment (cause I spent my last cent on it ) and now waiting for good times to change this to an HTC device most probably Tytn-II or Touch Cruise and good riddance from O2.

Agree 100%... like yours my williness to buy again was based on own experience so after two good (not perfect) 02 products so will consider another... if i had your experience would more than likely feel similar... but also be aware HTC, 02, MWg, Nokia etc etc all produce dogs every now and then...
although the aotmV so beautiful ,i do not change the exec until it die~hehe
I would say yes, it is a downgrade in terms of speed and rom size on the Atrom V, but what about the hi-price paid for HTC devices. Also you can always expand it using sd cards, and personally i never like choking up the internal memory.
There are reviews on the Atom V already. And a video review on the 3D/Video performance.
If you ask me after watching the video, I'd rather trust the Atom V over the Touch Cruise.

Idea for program?

For something like this, software is not sufficient. Appropriate hardware is also required. Same like GPS - slapping a GPS program is not enough, an actual GPS hardware must be present. Luckily, Mogul has GPS built in. But it does not have any radar sensors. So writing a program will not help without having the hardware required.
I have an Escort Passport. I just received a mailing about their newest radar that you can upgrade the speed cameras and red light cameras to. Though I am sure there is no way for a titan to function as a radar detector, there may be a way for someone to create a program using GPS and the location of stationary lasers and cameras.
Good idea. Though I live in a town of 14000 and the abode speed detection devices will not see my area in my lifetime, could be useful in traveling to bigger cities as traditional radar detectors don't have the ability to detect red light and speed cameras.
there already is a program that tells you when your approching the speed limit or a speed camera so im just crazY?
why do you need a radar detector? just buy a car they can't catch you in. ;-) vrooom vrooom
Follow Up: Search "Radar" in titles only
I saw a Hermes thread where Tom Tom 7 lists the permanent speed cameras I spoke of above.

Wow, how many lawnmowers do you have? More importantly, what kind of Lawnmowers do you have, Transformers? I can tell you this, my Toro would NEVER have gotten away with stealing my radar detector! Actually, my Toro recently went missing. Perhaps I should place my radar detector square in front of one of the xenon headlights, crank up the HIGH beams, and demand that it tell me where my lawnmower went!
well my dad runs 2 car body shops so we have 3 cars in the back 2 of em classics and 1 of em a mercedes we go to church in the door was apparently open mysteriously and our radar detector was gone same in surburvan we have lik 6 ppl that come to mow our lawns and it happneded the same day they where here in the moring.. and the program that tells you when your near a speed camera is called speedsentry http://www.smartphonejunkie.com/showthread.php?t=167174&highlight=speed+sentry

:: I am an old HTC TyTn [Hermes] user :: Need Advice Please ::

Dear community members,
I need a piece of advice... I am, now for quite some time, an HTC TyTn [a.k.a Hermes] owner/user.
I am seriously considering buying an HTC Touch Pro [a.k.a Raphael]. But I need some advice…
I will try to ask my questions/concerns in an outline style… Please bare with me and try to help…
¤ Is Raphael’s performance superior or inferior to Hermes?
¤ How does the GPS behave? Is it satisfactory?
¤ Is the ROM development community becoming more active? Will it ever be like the Hermes one?
Thank you.
Cheers.
As a Hermes user who has just upgraded to a Raphael, i can tell you this:
- Performance difference is huge. TF3D speed is acceptable out of the box, but with the tweaks offered here on the forum, very fast. But there are loads of other things that make the upgrade worth while: gps, much better sound quality playing music, FM radio, a superb VGA screen, more memory, better surfing experience, youtube client and much more...
- Haven't tested GPS yet
- That is one of the main reason why i upgraded to the Raphael instead of the SE Xperia, because a lot of the Hermes/Tilt cooks are coming over to this forum.
With a little luck the Raph should be the daddy, will be receiving mine some time over the next week.

I've tried GPS and it finds satellites quickly way faster than my tytn II but not as fast as i would like. I used Garmin mobile xt and visualgpsce to test it.
I had the hermes and the tytn II and this is by far better than both in finger friendliness and in performance.

Remember getting a fix for the first session is generally the slowest time, with continued use Ive always noticed GPS fixes are quicker....this is using my Holux BT320 with my Hermes......the built in one in the Hermes naturally shows two satelites erroneously which is a shame
(yes i KNOW the GPS doesnt work in the Hermes but it gets a fix on 2 real quick hehehe).
I use TomTom 7 on my Raphael and the first fix was a bit long, but also because i didn´t update my QuickGPS tool.
Second time use was much quicker. Great reception even in bad weather conditions.
I also used to be a Hermes user but the Raphael rocks big time, especially when you run the Raphael Tweaks in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413562
I'm also curious about the GPS performance. I currently have a Holux GR-230 GPS receiver connected to my Hermes and I'm thinking of upgrading to the Raphael, as I'd like the GPS internal (and many other features, but GPS primarily).
I'm wondering whether the GPS performance is comparable to an external GPS receiver, or if I would have to weigh a better external GPS receiver against a more convenient internal GPS receiver.
On other threads I've seen many response that GPS is good and fine and all that, but I'm just wondering how it compares to an external one. Hope someone can shed light on this.
Hermes against Raphael
Hello,
also used Hermes for last 2 years and now upgraded to Raphael. There is no way how to say, how big difference this is... from style design to VGA, speed - everything is uncomparamble with Hermes. I think, there is other HTC killer machine
Have Raph for about week and half and tried to test everything.
Desing is awesome. Yesterday I take my Hermes out for cottage (it is my wifi router now) and I was supprised, how ugly this device is against Raph.
Display - awesome, this is cool. Compared with qVGA this is cool. Great is also, that there is no display frame above display, so u can easily touch corners with your fingers. Also better touch support is great.
Speed is great, RAM helps very much.
Everything is great on this device. If Hermes was for you right device, as was for me, u will love Raph.

HD2 as car navigation -good idea or better to buy REAL CAR NAVIGATION ?

I saw similar posts but didn't saw answer.
Is HD2 better than standard REAL CAR NAVIGATION ??
I need to go to UK next week and will need a good navigation.
I will start from Poland so 2000km will be done with this nav.
What is better HD2 with NAV or REAL NAVIGATION (Mio, garmin etc.) ?
***sorry for my language - still learning ***
in my country, Real Navigation is better, our Google Maps is not updated
TomTom on my HD2 works like a charm. I drive every year from The Netherlands to France, Spain, Italy and back during the hollidays. Just make sure you have updated maps.
I've used Garmin XT on my previous PPC as well as on my HD2. This works as well as any REAL CAR NAVIGATION system. However, please make sure you have updated maps..
Where can one get satnav software for the HD2? Google maps is ok but when I'm driving I prefer voice guidance from something like TomTom
Load an Android build and Google maps with Google Navigation, (Voice prompts), is brilliant here in the USA.
Bing works very nicely too in Navigation mode but I have experienced it locking up on me more than once so the battery had to be pulled. I've heard that if I had been more patient it would come back. That's OK when you are on a long haul trip but in a city you could miss your turn easily.
So what you think ?
I'm not suggesting any maps becouse AutoMapa (similar to TomTom) works perfect for me:
- vice commands
- quick fix
- and many more
Is HD2 is better than a cheap NAV (40 $ - 100 $)
I am worry about technical issues.
You know ... 30 hours ON , memory lacks , battery heating , and other.
Inside Poland works great but still thinking about Garmin Nüvi 1200T (95$ - with TMC).
Please help :
HD2 with Automapa or Garmin Nüvi 1200T (with TMC) ???
Consider this that i'm not happy to spend additional 100$ , but still
looking for safety because i'm going with family so mayby i will need to
spend this 100$.

not true. i have been using Igo8, mapking and garmin Que on HD & HD2 to Malaysia from Singapore. i just got back from Genting & Sunway lagoon 2 days ago using HD2, even had Yong Tau Fu at Ampang. Comparing to my brother who had a dedicated Garmin GPS on board and made a few wrong turns, i feel that HD2 GPS is as good as dedicated GPS device.
^
I mean, Garmin Mobile XT on HD2 is good no doubt, but then, MalFreeMaps has 3D buildings, but I cant benefit it cause GMXT doesnt support it..
MalSingMaps has Junction View/Lane Assists, and GMXT cant support..

1. na dlugiej trasie startuj zawsze z naładowanym HD2
(on the long route, always start with fullly loaded HD2)
2. Używaj ładowarki z wyjściem 1A (075A to minimum)
(use the car charger with power output of 1A, 0,75a as the minimum
3. Przyciemnij ekran, wyłacz autoregulację jasności

po spełnieniu 1, 2, 3, HD2 grzeje się o wiele mniej, jesli w ogóle
(when 1,2 and 3 are met, HD2 heats significantly slower, if at all)
na trasę polecam iGo8.3 lub TomToma (autoMapa zwłaszcza wersje 6.x mają śmieszne algorytmy wyznaczania tras)
(for this route I'd suggest to use iGo8.3 or Tomtom (as AM routes thruogh some funny points, especially since 6.x version)

(for safety, make two separate routes, one to ferry/Eurotunel, and the second one in UK)
Thanks for reply.
This info was really helpfull.

No. Even though Google maps itself is better in my area of the U.S., the cell signal will drop just when you need it the most. I drive professionally, and use a 5" TomTom. I use the HD2 as a backup.
One thing it DOES do better, is pinch zoom and that is way nice to see the route ahead. I can move the map around and zoom in and out easy. The TomTom, no way, it is very hard to zoom and drag the map. Too slow and clumsy.
I use both, but if I had to pick one it would be the TomTom.
hope this helps
Oh I wish Garmin had a new version just for the HD2
To my opinion HD2 is a better choice. I have 3 navigation systems on my Leo - Garmin XT with Geotrade map, iGO with Teleatlas map and Navigon with Navteq Q4 map. They are all excellent apps with great road coverage of the maps which are OFFLINE maps. The advantage is that you can choose wich one to get and there is no need for Internet connection which is the case with Google maps. The screen is big enough. The only draw back is the battery drain but you can always buy a car charger.
I consider my hd2 is a better choice, I run IGO8 and its more accurate, faster, and the overall exerience is sweeter than my off the shelf Navman. The navman is now relegated to the old tech box
Travel
OK,
For me the HD2 is definately the better choice.
However, stay away from google maps, in the city of Lodz,
which I recently visited, it did not show a street, despite
it being there for a few years already.
You can use automapa, which works very well on HD2,
together with the "NaviComputer" software that can be
found on this forum.
I used automapa when driving Germany-Poland and back.
It worked very well.
I used NaviComputer to go through a city (on foot), because it's more
like a map, only with the benefit that you know EXACTLY where
you are at any point. It will know house-numbers quite often better
compared to traditional Navigation.
Powodzenia,
Pozdrawiam,
Tom
P.S.: I have a USB radio, so not only does it navigate, but the radio charges it AND it plays my favorite music. SWEET.
If you don't have that kind of radio, you can just buy the charger. Every MediaMarkt or RTVAGD should have it.
I would have but I couldn't get a good enough signal from the GPS which is a real shame it would be real patchy and didn't update within enough time meaning I would miss my turn then it will say turn when I was about 100 Yards from the corner.
But that could just be down to ROM or Radio but oh well. Try it a few times but you can save some money and use it
