Hi ALL
I been reading through all the post for the past week or so.. and contemplating upgrading to WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG on my 02 XDA .
I check out ROMkitchen and created my ROM but I deselected all additional software I Just wanted the bare bone WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG. I have not installed it yet. (BIG THANKS TO XDA-developers )
some users posted that they had good and bad experience with WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 . The reason why i created this topic is to collate disadvantage and advantage using WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG (due to not final version if I'm correct).
I check here and the Enhancements are damn good which should of been support by PPC 2002 Phone Edition .
a) Can user posted disadvantage and advantage using WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG i.e. annoying bugs http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1945
b) What's your personnel percentage based on WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG? i.e. User ability
c) Will you port back to PPC 2002 ? i.e. WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 Stability dose not meet my needs
Share your thoughts and experience please if possible
Well to be honest with you so far the device and the WM2003 are very stable together.
I am using QTEK 32MB with ROM 4.00.05 and i can assure you that the speed is even better and the performance is great.
Now that doesnt mean its bug free there are still some small problems here and there as any normal ROM.
My advice upgrade it... and then you will see that you will like it allot you wont downgrade.
By the way "Test Not for Sale" screen when reseting the device is great lol 8)
Frankly, my experience with my 02 hasn't been all that stellar. i do get some slowdowns, but i don't think i can go back to SER1.2's smsing... smsing in the new os is spectacular, well worth the other drawbacks.
my 2 cents
I've got 4.00.05 installed. After a soft reset, a white square box with a grey rectangle over it comes up on the screen- looks like some sort of dialog is trying to come up but isn't all there. There's also a (x) in the top corner. Clicking that brings back the today screen.
Has anyone else noticed this? It happened also when I was using the 4.00.01 ROM.

This is the SIM Toolkit. If you can still boot, simply remove the stk.lnk file from \Windows\Startup. Otherwise create a new ROM in the kitchen: I added the option to not include that link earlier today.
Sweet. Just took out the stk link.
So far this ROM seems pretty stable. I'm still having some issues with the SD card though.
It seems if I remove the card and add files with my card reader, then put it back in the phone, it's not seeing the changes.
4.00.05 vs 4.00.01
I have a fairly vanilla ROMKitchen 4.00.05.
The SIM toolkit is annoying (empty dialog) that pops up after a soft reset.
4.00.01 was very stable for me. If anything 4.00.05 appears a little less stable on GRPS. It keeps/makes the connection OK, but the network (TCP/IP side) seems to get confused until I power off the radio or reset sometimes.
I'm not going to bother going back to .01, but I won't bother updating any more devices to .05 if they already have .01.

Are you on T-mobile ? The whole GPRS network seems very unreliable since Saturday afternoon - I had problems in CO, then CA on Tuesday (though late morning was fine) and again today in CO. My machine ROM is unchanged in the last 10 days.

Confirmed: we see that too. Annoying. But fortunately the 'Answer' on the screen always works, otherwise 4.00.05 would be unusable.

EasyTweak does all sorts of PPC2002-related registry tweaks. You can't really expect it to be very useful on new OS versions. I've set it to 'PPC2002 only' in the kitchen.
Hi,
I tried the 4.00.01 and got many bugs ... (bad reception ...)
Yesterday I put the 4.00.05 and all seems going well. Good GSM reception and for the moment no problem.
Thx to Jeff and his kitchen

As a regular contributor to various motor car forums I am always amazed at how idiots destroy perfectly serviceable cars in an attempt to 'improve' them. Anyway - today, I am one of those idiots.
I recently purchased a QTEK 2020 which I got a bit cheap on account of it not having 'iMate' written on it. Before I get really into it and put software and stuff on it, I'd like to upgrade my ROM from 1.66 to 1.72, which I have found on this site. Do I have to go through all of the xda2nbftool stuff (which I more or less understand)? Presumably yes, to change the Operator (only?). I'm quite happy for the machine to think that it is an iMate, but presumably this does not work!
I am happy with my machine. It hasn't crashed yet. But it annoys me that it might not be quite as good as yours...
(I so feel like one of those people who wants to remove his cylinder head and replace it with pineapple's to make the engine run sweeter)
i dont really understand what you are asking
are you asking
1 about changing operator and so sim locking ?
2 are you asking if you need the pretty manual xda2nbftool way to upgrade xda2's ?
3 are you asking if it will work upgrading to 1.72 ?
1 you can sim unlock your device without changing rom
a rom never require you to use a special operator but the preset settings will be the operators who put out the rom
2 yes currently it's the only way with time people are likely to make it a bit more gui like the xdatools for xda1
3 it should work but some people are reporting issues with it or maybe that was the beta of 1.72
read about the exp of others in the posts about 1.72
Sorry - it's a simple question.
If I had an iMate I could just use the RUXXX upgrade without any fuss to upgrade to 1.72
However, I have a QTEK 2020. I guess therefore I have to use xda2nbftool to modify the operator name to QTEK - otherwise it will not work (despite the 2 devices being identical). I do not want to unlock a SIM or anything else (it is unlocked by default).
Just looking for confirmation of the above paragraph!
I read about the experience of others using the 'official' 1.72 and it seems okay (better battery life etc.)
Cheers
there are 2 errors i think which stop people from just flashing their xda2 flavor with any rom update in the form of an exe file
1 is country code error if the rom is released in one country it often have a block which will stop people from upgrading their another country xda2 with it, not sure why they do that
2 maybe a form of device block so you dont upgrade your qtek with the imate
i'm sure if you had an imate and the country code dident differ you would be able to upgrade without using xda2nbftool
with time a GUI tool like xdatools for xda1 will come and you'll be able to get around all these blocks without having to type
and such
If you want to upgrade your Qtek to Imate's 1.72 ROM, yes, you need to do all that stuff.
It's actually quite simple, the description on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaRomFlashing is full, accurate, and is actually suited to Qtek owners without changing a single instruction.
I flashed my device (though on the first go it ended up in a dead-ish screen and I had to re-flash) and it works swimmingly.
However, you might get somewhat nervous encountering such dead-ish screens; and for good reason, flashing is dangerous after all.
Perhaps it's best to wait for a Qtek upgrade, they seem to be holding back a bit, so perhaps they're waiting to integrate WM2003 Second Edition, which should be a much larger upgrade. Also, you'll still be covered by warrantee.
If you're having specific problems with your 1.6x ROM, it could conceivably be a good idea to upgrade to the iMate ROM (using the instructions on the wiki), but if you're not having any problems, or problems that also occur in 1.72, or which are a result of 3rd party software you're using; don't bother.
You are right that QTEK seem to be a little slow in releasing anything. In fact I can't find any detailed 'official' support on QTEK outside the pages of this forum. Their website appears to be in swedish and is of very little use!
The QTEKCorporation website doesn't even list the 2020! Strange, as I understand that HTC own QTEK.
Most vendors (Expansys for example) list the 2020 as 'discontinued' (which is how I managed to negotiate a big discount!)
I tried to gatecrash club-iMate but they didn't like my IMEI number, and when I asked why not they said that they don't support my device.
I don't really care (assuming that my machine never has a problem...) and is it seems to do everything I want it to, I'll wait before updating the ROM. Maybe something will come from QTEK eventually - although I am not sure from where!!
Cheers
well qtek were the first ones out with 1.66 it came on my device before most people had gotten 1.60

Who am I to contradict you? ;-)
Seriously: don't do the upgrade yet. Why?
- 1.72 has well-known problems. First, ClearType has become much worse - text just doesn't look as good as with older versions. Second, quite a few people report hangs that needed a hard reset (and cause a loss of all data). See, for example, the pages 45 - 50 of the PocketZenPhone thread in this forum. With my ROM version (1.60) I never had to hard-reset a single time. And I tried quite a few programs, some less buggy, some more buggy.
- also, although there are detailed instructions, things can always go wrong. And if that happens, you may need a bit of experience to sort them out. So wait a few more week, enjoy your device, read forums, and gain experience.
Cheers
Daniel
I have 1.72 for some time now and:
- it *never* crashed (I have to do soft reset from time to time like in any other release though, but no hang or anything)
- clear type is fixed. There's a post about a .cab to install which fixes the problem. ClearType is now great on 1.72
- my battery life improved over previous versions and I have a unit that can stand up to three days connected to my BT headset (a bluetrek G2) with me talking 2 to 3 hours a day and doing PDA stuff
so I would recommend you move on
Hi beljames, really I can understand you! I've almost destroyed a lot of good working car engines trying to "improve" them...
So: if you want to do this with your brand new QTEK 2020 go there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=9060
and read carefully.
All worked fine for me. I upgraded from 1.66 ITA to 1.70 EN and my QTEK works perfectly!
About the cleartype problem you can find a fix in this forum: it works too.
I've also added a N2Ox system and a small turbocharger... it's a little bit heavier, yes, but it runs like a rocket!
Good balanced opinions!!
I think I'll wait a while to see if it annoys me. One single hang and I'll upgrade. Screw it up in Ghana and you don't get a lot of 1 to 1 technical support!!
By the way - I find it far easier to read the screen with Cleartype switched off (and mine is 1.66). Cleartype makes me squint!
An Loxodont - assuming that you are Italian, you will be amused to hear that the one car I used to lunch very frequently was an Alfa 33. Used to blow the inlet manifold clean off almost weekly.

in defence of 1.72 then i have had both these issues with 1.66
Go for it....
Hi all,
just to let you know I also upgraded my Qtek 2020 from 1.66 to i-mate 1.72 following the "manual steps" to overryde the country code error and it works fine. The steps are simplier than it seems and i did it in 5 minutes. The upgrade itself is quite boring....it took almost one hour to complete the upgrade on all stacks.
One thing i can tell you: after the upgrade the device gets faster and it seems it has a "new" battery.
The cleartype prob is solved and forgotten with the right patch.
The only problem i still get is the stupid i-mate logo at startup and i can't seem to get rid of it. I want my old qtek logo back....
If i can give advise on this: Just go for it.....
Portuguese do it better....and we will win Euro2004 !

I really need someone to help to lead me how to upgrade my XDAII WM2003 to WM2003SE. Please show me where and how to do this. appreciated to show detail step by step set up.
Thread moved out of Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking to here
there is so many forum that would help you to upgrade from wm2003 to wm2003se. anyway, i will try to help. i'm a newbie my self. i use XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS. it pretty much have everything on it. and it's stable. you have to download XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS from ftp://xda:[email protected]/GlobeSmartSun/XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS.exe
and then.. put your xda on the bootloader mode by press and hold power button + navigational pad + softreset switch. a number like 1.03 or whatever will come up and put it on the cradle. and then run the XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS.exe. after that you just wait till it finish and when it shows you finish then reset the xda and that's pretty much it. if you have a question feel free to ask. hope that helps
How stable are the wm2003se versions that are available?
I use the xdaII everyday as a business tool, I would really like to have 2003 se (mainly for the improoved bluetooth) but I wouldn't want it to crash when I need it!

i use the XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS version and it's very stable. the bluetooth have two stack. use the one that's the most compatible. don't run them both because sometimes it crashes specially with tomtom 5. i use the microsoft bluetooth stack.
Why do you want to upgrade to WM2003SE if you can upgrade to WM2005?
xdaII upgrade to WM2003SE
I'm a first time user to the site and just followed the link from MDAIII and have now upgraded my machine. All seems to be working fine. So far I am impressed. Thanks I've been waiting a while to get this sorted.
I upgraded XDAII from wm2003 to wm2005 and in my opinion its not perfect yet. There is still some memory issues to be ironed out... I ''ll say gave it month or two.
I have now downgraded to 2003se and iam very impressed with it.
its very stable than my previous orange build (wm2003). I could serously see myself sticking with 2003se for some time to come.
I have also just bought an sd-wifi card from ebuyer for £19.00
so no upgrade of the unit till the 3G pocket-pc is released later this year or next.
never upgrade for the sake of upgrading.
thanks to xda2jojo and others  .
So which version of wm2003se are you using?
am using XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS combined zt on extended rom
seems stable to me. I got my wireless sd card today and that works perfectly too.
these are some of apps installed on my pocketpc
tomtom 5
mapopolis
worldmate
omega battary pro
agile messanger
mortplayer
betaplayer
adobe reader
mobipocket reader 5 beta
I recently bought a TyTNfor almost $900 including a 2 GB expansion card. Despite dozens of hours of trying to get it to work correctly, I find th TyTN almost intolerably buggy.
Specifically:
1) the phone loses connections frequently -- much worse than the Cingular 8125 or my old Treo 650.
2) numerous application programs either crash the device or do not run properly -- specifically, the Audible.com player, the the automated download feature or of Audible Air, most of the SPB utility applications, SBSH Weather (VGA Icons), SBSH Ilauncher and others.
3) the battery life absolutely sucks. I get less than eight hours of operation -- with very few telephone calls. I do have Microsoft push e-mail turned on. However, this ought to work -- for God's sake, or what's the point?
4) the screen/stylus requires re-alignment at least twice a daily..
Is there anyone out there who can help me and walk me through the installation of a new ROM, or some kind of update that makes this device work in a tolerable manner?
I would be very happy to pay you for your consulting time. Otherwise, I want to try to get HTC to take this buggy phone back for a full refund and I will go back to using my old Treo 650.
Many thanks for your attention and future help.
ROM version 1.18.255.3
ROM date 07/22/06
Radio Version 1.03.03.10
Once I hear that you have alignment problems, then, from what I hear you have bad luck since you have one of the firt TyTns out there. I heard that HTC replaces these units. It hapens to be a common problem on the early devices.
I have my MDA Vario II (a variation of a Hermes) and till now 4 days long extremely happy with everything.

Well, I am sorry you are having these problems. I don't think most of them are a Tytn problems in general.
1) First I have heard of this. I have had the Tytn for a month now and don't have that problem. I move in and out of a 3g area and whether on GSM or UMTS, call quality has been great (better than my Wizzard in fact). Maybe your problem is a SIM issue since this phone is not supported by your carrier where you others might be? I went and got a new SIM when I got mine so I don't know if that could be an issue or not.
2) I don't use many apps. I do use SBSH Weather v1.3.3 (regular icons) and it works well. No issues at all, updates just fine etc. I thought the VGA icons were for devices with a VGA screen (Universal for example). To the best of my knowledge the Wizzard, Tytn etc are not VGA devices so I don't think it helps to use the VGA icons, and who knows, maybe it could cause an issue on a non-VGA device. I have heard that SPB has issues. Slingplayer also works well for me, streaming video runs great.
3) I get ~3-4 days out of the battery if just used for calls, weather updates, and light browsing. Heavy UMTS browsing or streaming cuts that down significantly to 24-36 hours. I don't use push mail so don't know there, but there might be a config setting that is causing your device to get polled too frequently. I do know that one time I went into the phone menu and Band page to set Band to UMTS only. I forgot I did that, left a UMTS area and the phone went into constant network search mode instead of switching to GSM. That drained my battery in something less than 8 hrs.
4) I also don't have this problem. There are many reports of this problem though and the only fix I am aware of is a replacement.
Bottom line is I suspect you have a bad phone (reception and alignment issues) as well as setup issues or program conflicts causing your apps problems.
try to upgrade to the lastest rom!

I would love to take your money, but I think you should take it back and get something else. Maybe even a Treo. The reason I say this is because the TyTn is just not ready for Prime Time unless you are a power user or someone who doesn't feel the need to complain because it doesn't work properly. Power user go around these issues and figure out the problems.
This is no way an insult to you, it's just that if you can't deal with the problems, and you need to rely on a phone/pda, and email is very important to you maybe even go as low as to get a blackberry. In the meantime I personally would keep the TyTn and explore it and fully understand how it works. When you are ready to dive in and start using it as a "power user" then you will no longer need to worry about it's faults.
This is coming from 2 years of experience with the O2 Xda IIs. Which was the buggiest pocketpc phone that ever came out and today is one of the top, mainly due to the fact that once the ROM is hacked the development efforts go up considerably and you see increased productivity and usability.
But if you need the money, just get a refund.
Sorry about my blunt response, but I had a friend who I converted from a palm to a Blue Angel. He didn't like it so I got him into a wizard. He curse at it for a while, then he started loving it after a few weeks of using it. Now he would never go back to a Palm or a Treo or anything else. I got my TyTn only last week and have cursed it to hell and back several thousand times. But this is just the way it goes when you're one of the early adopters. Especially when the phone is not commercially available to the US and Canada.
Time heals all.
Fully agree with you axiom, the most sincere response you could have given him.
I also come from the BlueAngel and was one of the early adopters, now running helmi's 1.32 rom, that's why I truely understand what you mean
Thanks pof for backing me up. I am also still using my BlueAngel with with the 1.32 rom but primarily in my car for navigation. This way I don't have to spend another few hundred dollars on a Nav system. And it really bothers me when tomtom loads faster on my BlueAngel then it does on my TyTn, but then I am hopeful that the TyTn will prevail when the time is write and all our heads are in the right place.
As always, everyone is welcome to post their problems, concerns, and findings and I am always pushing people to hang in there because "I know" there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks for all the thoughtful replys - but....
Perhaps this is a device that is a little too early for me. But I will not return it. I love the speed of the Cingular 3G network. And I am blown away by how well Exchange/Outlook push works. I would never go back to a Treo or to a Blackberry.
I was rather hoping someone may have an idea about an improved ROM. I did have a direct conversation with HTCEurope's tech support office. They said they were well aware of the problems with applications, especially with the Audible player. They wistfully referred to the folks in Taiwan creating a new ROM - any month now.
I hoped that one of you might feel that a beta Cingular or other ROM might fix some or all of my problems. And I hope that someone could talk me through the installation. I hope that is true.
Many thanks.

Oh please don't install the cingular beta ROM. Infact, as much I enjoyed using it for testing purposes, the last thing you want to do is start pushing ROMs. I am also waiting for a newer ROM, I was one of the first along with pof and others who installed the cingular roms and found some harsh truths, and some benefits. However, I went back to the dopod rom, with a radio update from the cingular rom. And this was a journey in possibly bricking my unit because going back from the cingular to one of the other roms is a chance and you need your original rom to go back.
If you must pursue upgrading your ROM, please keep a few things in mind:
1) And very important: If you don't know what you're doing, you could brick your unit.
2) A rom upgrade is only as good as the comments it has received from the users on this forum.
3) Most users who use the newest roms are, in most cases, advanced and understand that there will be problems.
4) Once you have started to upgrade your rom, you will be doing it all the time and be ready to reinstall your apps and settings.
If this is all ok to you and you have a back up phone, that you can use while you play with your TyTn, then go ahead and try the Dopod, Imate or TyTn rom. Look through the wiki and you will find all the information you need.
READ EVERYTHING FIRST, THEN START YOUR JOURNEY. The worst thing is having someone tell you "Do a search", or "RTFM", or "Read the wiki". People will respect you more and will be willing to help you more if your questions legit and the wiki can't help you out.
To start you off, I would suggest the Dopod ROM, with radio 1.16. This should take you about 1 hour to update. Then if you're not satisfied with this, then go to the TyTn or the IMate.
I hope this helps, and I have never seen anyone ask for money on here to help our fellow users and if they have, then shame on them. We are all here to learn and teach, this is what makes us a community of excellence.
I hope this helps you and many others on this board. Until the next rom, or hopefully the successful hack of the TyTn rom... Long live xda-developers!

As far as the screen alignment issue goes i am shortly sending my TyTN to HTC (in the UK) to get fixed under warranty (ie free)....the guy on the helpline was REALLY helpfull in sorting it out...they estimate a 5 day turnaround for it which is just SWEEEEET......shall be back to my P900 for a few days URGH!
So afaik the screen alignment can be sorted with an under warranty repair

Dear Prof, Asukal and especially Axiom:
I want to thank you for your responses. I took the plunge last night and upgraded the phone radio ROM to the Cingular 1.16 version using the instructions and files from Asukal.
There were moments of sheer terror. The ROM upload to the phone took hours. In fact, I went to sleep and let it continue through the night. But when I woke up, there was the predicted error message on the TyTN. Just as instructed, after a reset, everything worked perfectly. I will write this up more thoroughly in a day or two after I have a chance to really test the radio.
But thanks for giving me the courage to try the upgrade. I am also including a snippet from a message I received from HTC Support about the next ROM:
"There are no ROM updates available for the TyTN at present, although are actively working one to address various issue customers are experiencing.
We are expecting this to coincide with the Windows Mobile 5 AKU3 update."

please help/ new to this
I have a 02 xda exec that has several programs that states that " either it is not signed in with a trusted cetificate, or one of it's commponent can not be found, you might have to reinstall or restore this file." My desktop had the backup files for the 02 exec but it crashed. im using my laptop to try to find out how to restore my files. I tried the update but that failed too. Please help.

This is the TyTn forum. You want to post this in the Universal forum.

Dear Prof, Asukal and especially Axiom:
I want to thank you for your responses. I took the plunge last night and upgraded the phone radio ROM to the Cingular 1.16 version using the instructions and files from Asukal.

Congratulations and you are very welcome. Btw, which base rom did you stay with? I have noticed better reception with the 1.16 radio, how are you finding it?

ROM is version 1.18.255.3
Date:7/22/06
Radio: 1.16.00.00 (hurray)
Protocol: 32.53.7018H
ExROM: 1.18.255.106
I will give a full report on the radio tomorrow - not enough experience with it yet - and some very minor anomalies after the upgrade.
If you're experiencing shortened battery life, try changing the push email settings (active sync for the mail server) -- if you set it to other than "as they arrive" to an hour or so, for off-peak, it will really reduce the battery drain. Same with the settings for an POP3 email mailboxes -- change the polling interval to a longer duration. I've found that to be one of the biggest battery drains on my TyTN.
I've had a TyTN for more than 2 months and absolutely love it. Sold my k-jam (wizard) because I want the 3G if Cingular USA ever gets it working in my area. I've found the TyTN faster even on the EDGE network locally and better overall than my k-jam -- seems like the issues with the wizard have been largely addressed. Mind you I've never had the screen alignment problem so I can sympathize with those who do. I did switch my HTC ROM to the Imate ROM and I feel like the stability is better.
Slightly better

I think the Cingular 1.16 Radio ROM is just a bit better than the TyTN ROM that was native to my device. It seems very clear and it MAY hold the signal a bit better. My house is in a marginal area, switching constantly between GPRS and UMTS. That may make things difficult. My reception at home is clearer but about the same as my old Treo 650 in terms of maintaining a connection. The 8125 I had on trial from Cingular for a few weeks was better - but of course it had no UMTS.
Might be interesting for someone to do a hack which grabs GPRS during phone conversations in marginal areas and prevents going to UMTS during the call. ?????
I downloaded the fix4cat TyTN tweaker and set audio to "excellent." Not sure what that does, but excellent sounds good. I also enabled HSPDA, but that seems to do nothing.
Anyway I am happy.
The audible player still does not work worth beans (boohoo - their tech support is NO HELP AT ALL) and I had a really terrible experience with Chapura Pocket Mirror which I used successfully on the Treo for years. I need to synchronize public folders on my Exchange server. Any ideas? Chapura is brain dead, temporarily broke my device and made me spend hours recovering my programs and settings.
Finally - anyone ever able to get into a Cisco firewall and look at files on the company server with the VPN software in WM5??? I have tried using PPTP – no luck.
And really finally, thanks to everyone who helped. (Battery life better with push email off and TyTN magically stopped alignment drift completely and I am no longer a ROM virgin).

hiya,
bit new to all this, so some advice from you guys is needed!
what are the best options for the m1000?
not sure if there are different versions of the phone so give you as much detail as i can find?
cpu intel pxa263
speed 400mhz
ram 128mb
model ph10a
the main app i need is excel, plus a prog to print via ir to my dj450 printer(have been using printpocketce)
hope i have not missed anything important??
thanks in advance
there are 2003SE roms wm5 roms wm6 early roms
personaly if your device works as it should now i prob would leave it alone as i cant say if printing would work with later roms
thanks for the reply!
cant say its been working well?...had a few random hangs from time to time and there has been times where you get a call no ringtone heard and no way to answer it? h/ware buttons didnt work, touch screen button flashes like its been pressed but still didnt answer
only way i found to sort it out was a soft reset
so the main reason for the upgrade was an improvement in phone function rather than a printing issue?
think the main question i meant to ask really was which is the most stable version for this type of phone, most of the bugs sorted out?
thanks again

Had a lot of hanging, on my M1000, but after upgrading to the WM2003SE WWE, the speed of the machine has improved a lot, and it does no longer hang, allmost no matter what I do.
I found that some of the build in Orange apps were the reason for "hangtime" and slowdowns, because if I tryed to install them, from the original Ext-ROM, all the problems came back.
So my experience is, that "Genuine English WM2003 SE " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=230279 is a major improvement, to the Orange standard WM2003
I upgraded my SPV M1000 from Orange ROM to WM5 and now to Tofclock WM6 ROM, and it works fine. All features are ok for me, it's great!!!
thanks for the reply guys
would like to try tofclock wm6, if im going to do it may as well go the whole hog!
does anyone know if you can print via ir in office on wm6?...or am i going to need some more software??
I'm a newbie here and considering the purchase of a used x7500 with WM6.0. The current owner has a problem with the bluetooth not functioning. I'm wondering if this might be a common problem with 6.0 and if the new cooked 6.1 (4 – if that’s the latest rom version) might solve such an issue? Also, would you mind directing me to the page that has the most popular /cleanest 6.1 rom? I’m tearing my hair out trying to figure out which is the safest one to use.
Kind regards,
Peter (Bamse1)
no need for 2 threads mate
Okay, but I didn't intend this as the same thread as the other one (see "Cleanest/Most Popular 6.1 rom as of 2DEC08??"). I just carelessly pasted some of the same intro text, but there is a difference. My focus on this thread concerns the BT issue. I will take the liberty to paste a private message reply quote from Brau0303 which helps answer the original question:
... As for the BT issue this could be a junk rom, a bad radio version (software & fixable) a hardware failure or something the current owner simply screwed up because they did not follow instructions and may or may not be fixable.

Bottom-line: Apparently no clear connection between faulty BT and a bad ROM. In the meantime, the HTC service vendor Anovo Nordic AB in Sweden has agreed to fix it free of charge as long as there is not visible damage (there is not) and it is under the 2-year HTC warranty (which it is). It is not clear what their views are on cooked ROMs, but probably not favorable. Fortunately it has not been flashed and has the stock HTC WM 6.0 - which is good news in this case.
Let me add a reply by Lakeman too:
I personally have never had a bluetooth problem and it is not a common problem... I would hope flashing another rom would fix your bluetooth problem, but some of these phones are getting old (18 mths) so there is the possibility of a hardware issue sometimes it would pay to reflash the radio as they can get corrupted as well just make sure you kmow which spl you have and flash the right one

I had a lot of bluetooth problems with the stock WM 6 rom. Most of these problems are gone with Michy v5 rom. But my brand new S740 is better still.
Thanks ralf_pp, but this thread is under the Athena X7500 advantage not the Rose S740, unless you're suggesting that Michy v5 also works with the X7500?? Do you mind clarifying?

I think he was talking about Michy's 5.0 or 5.1 ROM, which are two ROMs for Athena. And then he was probably bragging that his Rose has better bluetooth quality than Athena.
not sure what is on 7500 or 6.0 rom
but on factory original 7510 with 6.1 bluetooth works perfectl for stereo music and phone calls automatically.
it auto plays back, and cuts off as necessary to handle both.
remote control keys (AD2P) works perfectly.
voice dialing command key
phone feature key (press hold to dial last number)
press to mute, etc, etc....
