Hi All,
I wanted to know if everyone thought it was time to upgrade to windows mobile 2003 yet or not? Please select yes or no in the poll above and leva any messages for me please!
Thanks Guys! Jas
IMHO, I don't think the general populous should upgrade to 2003. As far as I'm hearing, it's just not stable enough. When the bugs have been ironed out, then maybe.

Stability?
Hi
I've used about 4 versions of PPC2003 so far, and I havent had major issues with them. The only issue with stability is with me as a user - I cant seem to help hopping ROMs as and when they become available.
Then again, which Microsoft product has been free of 'bugs' for PPC 2003 to be an exception. YOu lived with 2002 and all its bugs, because you didnt have a choice - not because it was flawless.
Totally agree with sandyind!
I would tend to agree, in that there haven't been many [any] Microsoft products that have been flawless. But I'd still wait until it became a little more stable. Maybe wait for the next 2003 update.

WM2003 SMS - Reason enough to upgrade
If you use SMS like it was IM, then WM2003 is the greatest, now you can actually see SMS length and that the message was sent. Besides most of us here install beta drivers for video, sound etc to get the most out of our hardware, why not every other gadget we own ;-)
Hi everyone,
thanks for the massive interest and polls! So with it 87% yes so far, would it be safe to say the pro's cancel out the bugs and a thumbs up to upgrading? Does anyone know what the main bugs are which are putting people off?
Do we know a rough time when the next updated version is going to be out?
Thanks for all your efforts guy and Gals!!!

well, I thought it was time to upgrade but it seems not yet at least for me since Arabic support was Important.
i upgraded to WM2003 and play with it for a while and tried several Arabization tools unfortunetly none of them works for me then decide to downgrade back to 2002 and wait untill somebody will release Arabic support for the WM2003.

Hi,
Is it easy to uninstall?
Cheers
Jas
2 days now and I am happy with it.
There is a masive increase in speed with pocket snes and
the always-on gprs is wonderful.
There is one bug if you run ByteCounter with EzWAP2,
EzWAP2 will disappear and wont start any more.
I live in dread of the SD erasure bug so far this has not happen.
right it looks like im going to upgrade, will do it tomorrow night any advice for installation? 8)

You are my hero.......

Your welcome !
Thanks again XDA-Developers
Any "gotcha's" in this release. Is it pretty stable?

other than can't turn off gprs easily... its fab
system wide cleartype
excellent sms + contact management
generally more polished release !
Well I have taken the plunge already and it upgraded like a dream.
Although you cannot initially see massive changes it just feels better and looks a bit more appealing (only subtley though). Its a bit like when XP (without the god awful new nav system) was released, everything felt a bit crisper.
All in all I am chuffed with it and look forward to getting to grips with whats underneath.
Cheers again Ali, and although I am VERY grateful I cannot wait for a SE Rom to see just what weird and wonderful things the development gods bring us.
Just as and addon to this post - I am an EXTREMELY happy bunny now as I have been having major issues with my XDA not recognising my SMS message centre number previous and not allowing me to send texts. This happened no matter what Rom I used. U/g to PPC2003 and lo and behold shove the sim in and its all sorted.
For once (even though I dont think its down to the OS) I will take my hat off to MS and say ta.
HI Ali,
Great work.
Does this exe file work with windows 98?
Anyone out there had used win 98 with this and no problems?
Cheers
Vic
hello mate,
To be honest, I have never tried it with Win98, only XP.
I would defiantely make sure before upgrading !
Btw, do you happen to have the 4.005 release?
I like the direct approach
no
I want it though !... anyone care to share and I will upload it for all
I really hate people that have the release and yet publish on the forum and yet giving reason that cannot be understood.
It would be better not to share what you have if you do not intend to let the public to enjoy it. :?
exactly,
Whats the point of talking about it and then keeping it yourself?
we should share !
or find a 'loners' community

GPRS Disconnect????
I think its good but how do i dc from GPRS? This sucks. I still love the se 1.2. I love pocket console.
XDA Asian version
Hi,
what if I use the latest version of Windows Mobile 2003 Ali uploaded on my XDA ? Current versions are:
ROM version: 3.14.17 ENG
ROM date: 10/11/02
Radio: 4.17
Protocol: 32S54
Will I have problems with the radio version ?
Thanks,
So what now ?
 So what now ? :?:
Downloaded Installed Working some kind of GREAT !
Is it the latest version ?
Ali-Butt posted the same release as was posted here 2 weeks ago. its 4.00.01. it just works via activestink. as Xda-developers posted before, updating through programme A is not the safest thing to do. just in case have ur sd card reader ready. also there is a slight chance that ur bootloader might get corrupt. they said it happened. that's why safest way to do it is via SD card.

I had the same problem at first. I set it off downloading twice and each time it didn't complete the 15.2MB (or whatever), one around 3.4 and another 1.7ish. Even though the file seemed to complete on both occasions.
What I did in the end was sit and watch it, whilst leaving the original screen with the download link loaded...rather than closing it once the download began. That time it worked a treat.

So that's about July then, judging by their past performance. It would be fine if they actually altered the release because of testing, but the last XDA I romset was all dated a good three months prior to it's release.
Scene: a dusty office somewhere in London...
"So you've spent three months testing the device, what are your findings?"
"There's a load of bugs, most of which make the device pretty unstable, but many can be easily fixed with a little development effort. Here is our 100 page report."
"I'm afraid our development department is busy writing a custom menu system for the XDAII that replaces the usable PPC2K3 interface with a load of rubbish and dead links, using up all the resources on the device. He's also got to go back to school for his GCSEs," tosses report in bin, "we'll just send it out anyway, the guys at XDA-developers will be able to get it working."
Upgrade to ROM 1.60WWE !! bluetooth com port is working!!
Hello Everybody
In fact there is an UPGRADE ready and existing, but not yet PUBLIC,
it is one nice 40 MB RUU file which will uprgade your unit to english language:
Microsoft Pocket PC version 4.20.0 (Build 13252)
ROM version: 1.60.00WWE
ROM date: 12/03/03
Radio version: 1.06.01
Protocol version: 1337.16
ExtROM version: 1.60.06
I have it, and I am willing to share! Please email me for the ftp details.
The most important change is that bluetooth has finally COM ports functionality! and EMTAC or SOCKET Bluetooth GPS works well with it!!
(tested myself). As it is quite new, I may want something in return, like serial number for some applications, but I am looking only for the few ones.
[email protected]
I have the german update.
But I have promised not to share it.
I have tried the Bluetooth-Serial-Com, but I didnt have success.
With TomTom I cant see the Com-Port (4/5)
Please tell me a little how to....

Give us screenshot to proof it.
I think if you really want to share, you don't need any return.
@axbl
tell us something about the 32proc. boundary...
The problem of the 32 processes is in the Microsoft Pocket PC System. The Update I have is Version 4.20.0 (Build 13252).
I dont think that the problem of the 32 prozesses is solved. This Problem is on each Pocket PC (IPaq, ...).
But only on the XDA/MDA 2 there are so much prozesses provided by the vendor (T-Mobile, O2) at system start.
The Update reduces the count of processes. This is the only thig T-Mobile can do without mícrosoft redisign Ppc2003. I count 19 Processes. then I started 20 applications (TomTom, Word, Excel,...), and there is a count of 26. Is this better thane before the update ???
yes, indeed, that sounds better. Can u tell us, which processes are gone in difference to the old firmware?
What did T-Mobile change?
Regards
Dejan
Sorry, I dont have a list of the processes before the update. Please list them here, and I will tell you.
I'm downloading the promised update from xda222's ftp server as I write this, but (judging by the name of the .exe file) it's for T-mobile in Netherlands. Not much use to me, but maybe of use to someone. Someone on T-mobile in the Netherlands maybe?
The file is called RUU16006WWE_T-mobile_NL.exe
I'm not going to run it - I depend on my PCs and my XDA2 too much to risk screwing it all up with a trojan or an unverified ROM file.
Shoot. It does not give any backup or restore uptions, just tosses it onto the machine ..... too late to go back now ..... will post the result in 10 minutes .... it's updating my Asian O2 XDA now .... (for use on Vodafone in the Netherlands)
... Phfew ... everything works ... still simfree, just customized t-Mobile now ...
I just bought a Chinese Version XDA2 and the rom is Version 4.20.0 (Build 13252), is that the latest version we can have?

Screenshots are of no use, you'll see no difference other than the T-Mobile customizations. If anything has changed, it will merely be minor HTC bugfixes under the hood. Main issues have to be resolved by MS, not by HTC. And since MS only brings out quarterly updates, don't expect any major overhauls until february 2004.
Just spoke to head Techie at O2 and the new UK ROM will be posted this Friday - I have an advanced copy and it rocks - with all the advanced fixes including the Bluetooth/Blackberry updates and PC 2003 stuff too.

Man, another bluff-man... never mind about him...
Have you tried O2Ger version? I saw some data about bluetooth fixes, did they put some efforts on HandsFree profiling? any idea? info?
BTW, i'm writing a lil prog for WM03 that will emulate hands-free music playing at your headset, don't u wanna be a beta tester for that? if you have bt head of course! Mine is HBH65 and now it can play only midi files and some low-sampled wavs and can not cojointly work with radio stack on (( so i need beta testers to do some research on headsets specifications and behavior, maybe your will work ok.
BR [CR+LF]
HTC, I will take part in that beta test if you need more testers.

yep count me in as well m8
Zetex
Sorry to sound smug - didn't mean to cause a stir. I can share but only on a 56kb connection so a bit difficult. The full pack will be 25mb. See the O2 reply I got a few mins ago.
The expected size of the download is 25 Mb.
There is also a .pdf instruction file that can be downloaded, this should be approx 120kb
"The ROM download combines both the ROM and Radio updates in one (unlike the previous updates for the original XDA where they were separate).
These should be fully self extracting/installing, but for further info, the .pdf should be checked before running the installation.
Kind regards
O2 Data Support Team"
I have JABRA 250 and XDA BT200 headset if I can help?
RobinHood,
How did you get the file.... O2 did'nt send it to you on an email did they????
that must have taken hours for a 25mb file on a 56k connection..

I am going to be getting my XDA II in a coupld of days (Australia) I'm guessing it will not have the latest firmware/software on it, is the UK, German and Australian versions different in any way? I am new to the PDA marked (First one, still have not played with one yet, but looking forward to it).
Please post some photos of your new ROM for us to see. Thank you.
XDAII AND Plantronics Bluetooth-Headset M3000
I have XDAII AND Plantronics Bluetooth-Headset M3000, if you need a beta tester....
So, which version is this upgrade? is it the 1.60 or is it newer?
RobinHood >
you cannot not to share it! :?
On the front page, there was a comment that the GER new ROM features:
- New O2 Active User Interface
Anyone know what this will look like ? What new features it has ?
TIA
can't wait till Friday
O2 UK Update will be posted on their website tomorrow. The Installation and feature instructions are attached.
the "new" gui in german has only minor but nice updates.
The only noticeable change is under My XDA, which changed.
Most obviouse you will have a field "my programs" where you can apply your own programs, I think very useful so you don't need the stylus anymore to start for example the navigator while driving.

QTEK 2020
Will this update work on the QTEK 2020. I sure do hope so!
Handsfree not icluded
Hey every1
I've downloade the pdf file read trough it and I've notice in the software changes under bluetooth, the handsfree profile is still missing.
I thought that this upgrade was going to resolve this problem??
Any comment from anyone.
Regards
Gigi
It says in the pdf file that handsfree profile and spp is supported and improved, where are you reading that it isnt?
Is there any firm news on the likleyhood of a WM2003SE Upgrade for XDAII's (or any of the other versions of this hardware)? I have seen plenty of posts from people who seem to think it will come sometime but nothing official confirming this.
Given that HP have abandined any possibility of an upgrade for existing users I think it unlikley but I guess it only needs one ISP to offer the upgarde for Himalaya hardware and then we should be able to re-work it for the rest of us.
Yes, I'm looking for this too! I was hoping at least the new T-Mo USA iPaq phone edition would have SE! Is there a way to put that OS on my xdaII? -or is that a bad idea? -is it possible to get that ROM anywhere?

You're now talking to Ali
Ali> Welcome to club i-mate support. My name is Ali, how can I help you today?
Ali> hi
Paul> hi, i wanted to ask about if/when the Windows Mobile 2003 SE update will be available for the imate PPC
Ali> Microsoft have just released Windows Mobile 2003 SE, however we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> is there any guess on time frame, it as been release by microsoft for a couple of months now.
Ali> there is no exact day for that
Ali> this usualy take 2 mounths
Paul> I have a number of friends who are considering purchasing the imate, but not sure if they should wait a bit longer if it wont be getting the landscape support found in SE. Can I at least tell them that it will be supplied sometime (this year)
Ali> yes sure , The Windows Mobile 2003 SE is totally different from the new upgrade currently available on our www.clubimate.com website that updates the current version of Windows Mobile 2003.
Ali> it will have the ability to view the pages in landscape
Paul> I understand that, just wanted to make sure it will be provided. I know a number of manufactureres have said they would not.
Paul> thank-you for your time
Ali> any more quieries ?
Paul> I have noticed that there is a number of questions about this topic on the support message boards on the club imate site. Is it ok if I post this conversation there to the public to answer the question and lay fears at ease?
Ali> ok thats will be fine , as i told you we need to add our elements to the operating system to make it into the complete device package.
Paul> ok, thank alot, you have been very helpful
Paul> bye
Ali> you are most welcome
Ali> bye
So it indeed seems that it is being worked on. And a big thanks to imate for providing that. All we neeed to do is be patient.

u knwo wat i think of WM2005 ? C&CK @LL !! $UCK3D UP ROM EVER BY MICRO**** A$#Ho|3$ !! the reason why i say this is because....wen the xdaII is just lying off and i wanna make a call i hit green button to dial a number it shows me the last recd number always...where as wm2003se shows the last dialed number so if i wanna try a number again that i called last i have to dial it again if engage i have to manually dial the number again.....and again......and again......becaz if i hit green ans button twice ....on first it will open dial pad....on second it will start dialing the last recd number.....where as wm2003se dials the last dialed number.....and this **** wm2005 does not show me my sim contacts in PHOTO CONTACTS where wm2003se does....SIM TOOL kit does not allow me to edit old saved numbers theres no MSN MSNGR if u just restart the xdaII all last work that you have done will be lost E.G if youve created a gprs connection and u hit restart gprs connection wont be there wen u come back and many more......and many SUCKED UP errors like this...n yeah forgot......majorly.....the c0*k3d up A$#Ho|3 didnt let me connect to active sync for two days and when i just put the xdaII today for charging all of a sudden it got connected....and now again its not connecting says usb driver has mailfunctioned.......****TY ROM EVA IN THE HISTORY OF MICRO****
theyre A$#Ho|3$ just to try their ****ty product they leak it out and then put all websites on ban against hosting their product information and ****ttt and then they visit this forum to check our comments....as far as ma comments.....

ZILLIONZ OF THANKS TO DCS FOR PROVIDING US WITH WM2003SE MYSTERYMAN ( THANKS TO MYSTERYMAN ONLY IF MYSTERYMAN IS NOT FROM MICROSOFT, WHICH I THINK IS NEGATIVE AND HE IS FROM MICROSOFT) ANYWAYS THANKS TO MAMAICH FOR PROVIDING SUCH A WONDERFUL RADIO ROM.....AND ALL THE OTHER GURUS WHO HAVE WORKED ON WM2003SE TO MAKE IT SUCH A WONDERFUL ROM FOR XDAII.....
Apart from the fact that I think you could express yourself in a more decent way, I would like to point you at the following:
WM2005 (just like WM2003SE for Himalaya) has not been released by Microsoft (yet). You might expect that it will be released for some devices, but I cannot imagine that it will going to be there for Himalaya: How much I dislike the idea, the Himalaya is an end-of-life product for most operators (I think Dopod and Krome are the only operators currently actively supporting the Himalaya).
In the mean time we will have to cope with best-effort results from ie. the XDA-developers community for new ROMs.
Personally I think this WM2005 ROM that has popped up is a Beta ROM for some other device, that has been been modified by someone (not being Microsoft). If you see it from that point WM2005 on Himalaya is quite a good job. But not really useable . . . .
You could alway vote with your money - and not buy another microsoft based product, if you feel that strongly about it :!:

Despite that you shouldn't feed trolls, I can't help myself.
The answer is obvious, zairy..
If you don't like MS Products (and you certainly don't pay for them, as you so proudly boast), don't complain about them. Because, if you don't like them, Don't use them.
All the problems you moan about are beta issues, appearing on a pre-beta version of magneto not meant for public use on a device that isn't specced for Windows mobile 2005 (Tiny Flash storage, for example).
It's very odd that you complain about how terrible any and all of the Microsoft operating systems are, yet you use Windows and Windows Mobile daily.
Then in the very next breath you praise others for their "WONDERFUL ROMS", when these very ROMs are essentially from Microsoft, with some drivers and a few bits and other bobs added on..
Do move on and get yourself a different phone.
In fact, get yourself a nice little phone with only basic features, as you may just hurt yourself while using anything more advanced. Use the money that you save on downgrading and get yourself a nice spelling tutor.
Once you've finished with it, use something called a dictionary and look up the words "Paradoxical" and "Attitude". Once you know what they mean, you should understand how the former applies to your childish rant, and that you should take the latter and get a new one.
does it look like that I care about what you said ??? :? :?:
