Using Cradle to access home network - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

When I put my XDA in it's cradle and it is synced with my computer, I can access the internet over my own network.
But when I look under Network Adapters on the XDA, I notieced there are 3 in there. Now I wanted to set some stuff like IP and DNS stuff, but do not know what one I need to put the info into.
Also, why is web browsing still so slow when it is hooked up to my home network? It should be moving along pretty good.
BTW I am running AT&T's A20 ROM.

Wifi blocked at work any bypass?

OK so work have blocked several of us from connecting our phones to wifi. Now we have a router her but can not access it so image they blocked at the main offices where they manage the network. Their are several houses that have their own routers etc but connected to the same network if that makes sense.
So my question is first how would they block us and second how can we bypass it?

Several ways to block access to a wifi routers.
Ways to access the network would be bring your own from home, and plug it in to the network.
To many ways to block you out to know what they have done.

Probably two reasons why they did this -
1) Prevent rogue devices connecting to their network, i.e. devices they cannot control what is on them and therefore could introduce viruses into the network or allows others to hack in and steal data etc.
2) Prevent people connecting personal devices for personal use, downloading files, facebook etc. Using company time and resources for unproductive personal tasks.
Probably easiest to ask them why and to ease the restrictions.
On the how:
You can control what connects to what on a very fine level - by device, by what it does and who it can talk to.
Ye I understand why. They blocked us as their network is really slow and rubbish but when we do nights and no one is using it its nice to be able to connect as no signal their. Just wondered if their was a way to get around it. They seem to have blocked all phones that were connected but one that was has been able to reconnect which is a blackberry.

How to by pass works blocking phone 2 options
By pass I've discovered! May not work for all
WARNING TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
#1 way I've discovered (in my office)
(Other wise try bring your own wifi router and setting the ssid to company's name )
If you have a pc or Mac computer and plug Incoming Ethernet port into LAN port not WAN then from 1-4 LAN port into pc/Mac Ethernet )
Try hiding your wifi router either in tower box or in desk try to be not so obvious leaving cables everywhere , don't just leave out in the open for everyone to see..
What I did
(I've hide the router in the under my desk using 3M double sided tape and tucked the cables away so there not hanging down)
#2 way ( works anywhere you can get a wifi signal)
My. Discovered by pass :
I got a wifi repeater/ range extender
I've programmed it to my work network with their ssid and password
Then
On the repeater / extender
Your new Access Point
I used the same ssid but used a different password
(At this point you have created your own AP , which logins to your network wifi and then
Now
When I go home I just unplug my repeater and lock it up in my desk
Good luck Jason
Ps: option #1. if you need more help try YouTube if your confused what to do with wifi router
SEARCH "using old router as a wifi extender (or as second AP)
My boss already block ssid wifi for usage at handphone, only laptop can connect that wifi. How i can connect wifi via my handphone? Currently i use i phone 6s.
Any trip for unblock for connect to my phone?
What kills me about my situation is some dumb ass did streaming video one day and ran up like XXXX gb of data so naturally they started giving a damn about who was doing what... I got banned/blocked even though I've never streamed... I'm assuming I'm blocked... got the right password and my old phone said authentication failed. My new phone it doesn't say or haven't found where it says yet... I can't bring in my own connection as I don't have a office of my own and the building is too big and metal for the mobile signal to make it to my location...
edit: According to my idiot boss they're getting strict I guess and just blocking most stuff... ?
"How did you happen to do such thing - and on your last day at the job..."

Question with WiFi hotspot

hi, I have a weird question. I currently have ATT DSL service at home. I am curious is there anyway that I can use my existing free WiFi account from my DSL with my phone or tablets?
thanks
Do you mean connect to your home wifi with your phone?
That's easy, just turn on wifi in Settings and connect to your home network.
oh no, what i mean is if I am on the go, I will e able to get WiFi access on these mobile hotspots using my existing DSL account. I konw that with ATT DSL, they provide us free WiFi access on our laptops. I am curious if that can also be used on my mobile device like phone and tablets.
The reaons I ask is because I do not currently have any data plan on my phone so I cannot use any of the phone's hotspot feature. So I am thinking if I can just use DSL accoutn for WiFi so I can still access the net via my phone or tablet as oppose to laptops.
I think I know what you mean now.
If you sign in through the browser on a laptop then you can probably do the same thing with your phone browser.
If they try to block mobile devices you might have to use desktop mode in your browser.

thank you for the reply. Mmh, I do not think that it works as it will not display the log in screen. I will try the desktop version to see if it works.
anyone has tries this?
When I connect to a wifi network that requires web page login, as soon as I connect, it tells me I have to login and you can tap it and it will take you to the web page.

[Q] Tether internet from Computer out through Phones Wifi

I have searched the forums and google for an answer to this but haven't been able to find anything.
What I'm trying to do is use my computers internet for my phone, and then broadcast it out. I've downloaded and used successfully the xda Android Reverse Tethering .exe and it's worked wonderfully. But the thing is I want to be able to use it in conjuction with a wifi tether app from my Samsung Galaxy S. My phone is rooted.
The purpose of this is to get internet connection on my PSP Vita. All of the internet in my house is wired, I don't own a wifi router nor do I want one. I live in a building where finding wifi passwords is easy for everyone as we all have the same general field of work, but no one near me has wifi.
What I've tried so far is using the xda Reverser Tether program with Barnacle Wifi Tether, Open Garden WiFi, and WiFi Tether. All apps I've downloaded from the marketplace. They work well at broadcasting my cell signal for use as Wifi, but none of them have been able to use the internet being sent from my phone.
In short what I'm looking for, or even if it exists, is a way to transfer my hard wired internet through my computer to my phone and subsequently the cellphones ability to act as a Wifi router.
Check my signature
Edit: *bump* I have removed it
check my threads
That looks close, but how could I use that, and then have my phone broadcast my internets computer through it's Wifi?
Hi ,
Use virtual router software in your pc and turn on pc and phones wifi.and connect to pcs wifi connection.if you have confusion try virtual router in google. i got succeeded in this but i dont have any link to give you.
If i helped press thanks.
This sounds like something that might do it. I have it downloaded but it's not doing anything. What were the steps you got to make it work for you?
Well, I was able to get it to work using redankaiahu's advice. The only thing is I had to go out and buy a usb-wifi adapter instead of using my phone like I would've liked. Oh well.
I know this really doesn't belong here, but did u know that if u get a router, u can actually change the frequency channel on it? Which means , no ones pc will pickup on the channel unless they adjust from their own pc's and know what channel u changed to.

[Q] Android phone as Dialup modem ? (not tethering)

Hi! i just came back from a place where there is no edge nor 3G. BUT there is a good signal !
I wondered if I could use my home (300km away) phone line and my home windows server to create a dialup connection between the remote place and my home, using my android phone as a 56k modem to have internet on a laptop at the remote place ?
I found nothing on the internetz on how to achieve that. Most of the applications and forums just talk about tethering, which is not what I'm looking for.
thanks for your help!
ps: I have an HTC One

[Q] Using Tethered LTE connection to host Services?

I have a grandfathered Unlimited Verizon Data Plan that my company is paying me to have. I do not like Verizon, and am out of contract, so I recently purchased a Nexus 5 and plan on paying monthly with Ting. I have to maintain a "company phone" but using Google Voice, and importing all my accounts, it is really trivial that I would be using the Nexus 5 on a different carrier, since they only subsidize their employees, the device does not actually belong to them.
Instead of leaving my GS3 in a shoe box somewhere or selling it, I wanted to try using it as a dedicated hotspot for my apartment since I live in an area that has capped data from ISP's and no real solution (read FIOS) yet.
I purchased a Netgear Wireless Bridge Adapter WNCE2001 and set it up to connect to the phone's wifi hotspot and plugged that into the WAN "internet" port of my router running Tomato 1.28 firmware.
All seemed ok as far as ability to surf the web, use netflix from my TV, etc however there was a huge problem with some of the things I host from my internal network, such as media servers Subsonic, and Plex.
I am not able to access anything hosted on my internal network from any external network, even though I have not touched or altered my configurations - just replaced the WAN / "internet" port of my router with the tethered data connection.
After days of research and reading I have attempted a few fixes, although none have truly worked so far:
1) I tried connecting the phone to an open VPN server and then routing that traffic through the built in wifi tethering . This indeed worked - I followed some threads linked below, and was able to verify that now everything on my network was using the Open VPN connection - however I could not figure out a way to forward the ports appropriately and access Subsonic or Plex from the outside world.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993689
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317841
2) I attempted using SSH tunnel from a remote Linux Server and although I could verify tha the tunnel was getting data piped through, I could not actually access Subsonic or PLex from the outside world. I tried to use tsocks to force all traffic for each service to use an established SSH tunnel but did not have much success.
It is important to note that these methods were tested on a shared server of a friend of mines, as far as I know they do not have root access and can not alter the open VPN or Open SSH configs or manually open ports on the server side. I wanted to just test it out to verify that it could work because I do not have a dedi or vps at the moment, I would consider getting something small from digital ocean or Amazon EC2 if this could actually work.
3) Lastly, I tried to use this port forwarding app, which as far as I can tell did absolutely nothing
Any help or direction is much appreciated, at this point I am more frustrated because after hours of reading and trying things out I feel as though I am now even more confused as to why this isn't / can't / could be working?!?!
Another thread I found here that seems like maybe it could be similar is the ability of getting NAT free with XBL using tethered data. I dont play video games, but I am wondering if something similar could be done using a crossover cable to allow for opening up ports through the wireless ISP as well? The older computer I use to host my media stuff from is running Ubuntu, and I have a Macbook Laptop, I only run Win7/8 in VM's on occasion - ideally though I want to find a solution that only uses the Linux Laptop, the phone, and the router - I can't leave my laptop home.
TLDR;
Halp! :silly:
[old desktop]- - - - ->{ROUTER]- - - - - >[WIFI ADAPTER]- - - ->[TETHERED GS3]- - - >[VZW]- - -> INTERNETS :good:
How to I send media servers from one side to the other and avoid all the NATing and dynamic IP's ? :victory:
I use versavpn with verizon and connect with openvpn. They give 3 ports to forword and dedicated ip. You chose the ports u want to forward on there web site. I have plex and remote desktop and a ftp server running on my unlimited data Verizon plan 300 gigs used a month for 3 years now. This has worked OK for me. I also ditched the tethered phone and went for a 4glte router instead much less hassle.
