To all you WM2003 Users out there - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi,
Can anyone using WM2003 check to see if they have a "MORE" tab under Phone>Tools>Options and let me know the version.
The 4.00.11 version of WM2003 I got from Jeff's Kitchen does not have the "MORE" tab dispite the Microsoft Mobile site saying it should have!!! :?

mine does
Mine does. Its a USA 900/1900 T-Mobile device with 4.0.16 OS, 6.24 radio.
BTW: The radio version alters whats in Tools-options. e.g. the USA devices have a 'band' tab.
cheers,
..lance

Mine does not. T-Mobile device, 4.00.16, radio 6.24.00. Another device here with the same versions also does not.
Maybe this is related to a SIM feature?

nope
Mine does not. PPC 2002 on my XDA had it.

I've got an O2 XDA with 4.00.16 and Radio 4.21
I have got both the More and the Band tab.

Dear,
If all ROMs of yours are from Jeff's Kitchen, I think the presence of "More" option is optional when you cook your own ROM.

Thanks for the info guys,
I think it's a "feature" of 4.00.11, but I will check on Jeff's Kitchen for Ken_xda's suggestion when it comes back online. As Aurora13 has the same Radio as me but a different ROM, I will try an upgrade although I would rather have a UK ROM than a US one.

Mine does and I'm running a T-Mobile device, ROM 4.00.16 and AT&T radio stack A.20.10.
BTW my ROM came from a bin file install that I downloaded
from Aurora13's FTP site when it was active.
HTH

I too have just upgraded to ROM 4.00.16 and radio v6.24 (thanks Qman)...I do not have the "More" and "Band" options either - I remember having them under 2k2. Are these features important enough to request Aurora13 to repost the bin file? Should I revert to 2k2?

Good question!
As far as the "Band" option goings I'm sure you're safe if you plan only to use the phone in the Country/Region that your SIM card is set to. If not you
can always change if from the bootloader.
Now as for the "More" option goes it has the following Options:
Automatic pickup
Answer incoming calls without pressing Talk after xxx rings
Hardware button lock
Lock all buttons except Power button
Do not lock buttons
Broadcast Channels
Enable
HTH

Can this More" option" be retrieve any way on WM2003 4.00.11 i.e setting  :?:

Hi All,
I've done a bit of fiddling. I downloaded ROMs for 3.17.00, 4.00.05, 4.00.11 and 4.00.16 from Jeff's Kitchen and tried all of them with Radio 4.21 from UK O2. The only one that gave me the MORE tab was 3.17.00. none of the 4.00.xx versions did.
I would like to try with a different Radio ROM but I don't have the previous version prior to te upgrade to 4.21. Can anyone tell me where to get an earlier version.

Hmmz strange I have the O2 Radio 4.21 and the 4.00.16 (kitchen) ROM, but I DO have the More tab!

O2 XDA with 4.00.16
Hello, Posible to download O2 XDA with 4.00.16 or 4.00.11 (not ROM Kitchen), where ftp? or site download?
Thanks

Wow you can download a XDA? I had to buy mine in a shop!
Maybe we can download the O2 XDA II already somewhere?
But seriously: if you don't select the extra options on the kitchen page, you get a 'standard' 2003 ROM.

The band-switching feature is particularly important. Any time I've ever switched bands using the bootloader method (using bootloader 5.15, ROM 4.00.05, Radio RA.20.10) I always seem to end up accidentally doing a hard reset. Very frustrating. I've learned to always backup to SD first, but what a pain. I travel to Europe reasonably often (just got back from T-Mobile country (DE) yesterday) and would love to have the tab back. I just looked at Jeff's kitchen again, and I can confirm that there's no option there to add the More and Band tabs (there's an option to add the BandSwitch program, but as the page says, and I can confirm, it doesn't work with the 4.xx.xx ROMs).
I'll try 4.00.16 to see if the Tabs come back.
PS - That config (ROM 4.00.05, RA.20.10) has worked great in UK and Germany for me... I've roamed all over and get as good as I can get considering I'm running at 900 while I'm there.
PPS - Maybe this has something to do with stk.lnk or HTC SAT (/windows/stk.exe) which seems to always hang at startup on my system?

No Band or More Option and HTC Sat Also Hangs
I've upgraded to ROM 4.00.11, Radio 4.17.00. I do not have the More or Band Tabs.
I also suffer from HTC SAT hanging at bootup.
Otherwise everything good.
I have an O2 XDA and in Australia

Tomtom buggy with WM2003

Has anyone noticed that Tomtom 2.24 has problems with WM2003 on the XDA, after it's been run it gets rid of the small dot's used to select items (such as the ones next to On, Off, Vibrate on the Volume menu of the today screen) has anyone got a work around for this ? Only a soft reset seems to bring them back :!:
Cheers

upps, seems like I am not the only one having that problems
although it looks like I do not bring much hope to you on that, sorry ...

Never had any problem with my xda.....
Running Tomtom version 2.24 on my own cooked German ROM 4.00.33 .

There is no need to downgrade to 2002.
Just upgrade to TomTom 2.04 and GPS 2.08, format your SD Card and re-install the maps. Try to start without any additional POI files.
This should fix your problem.
After this, the TT 2 was running fine on my MDA with the 4.0.33 german ROM.

My Dad has just got an XDA aswell, he's running the same rom as me (4.01.00 no extra cooked bits) and 2.24 with GPS 2.08 does the same on his.

I have the same problem on my MDA II, even after the ROM 1.60 upgrade: sometimes radio buttons and/or checkboxes just disappear. I don't think this is specific to TomTom, as I saw the same thing happen also while running other programs. It is also not reproducable, most of the time TomTom just works fine.
Doesn't bother me much though, as a soft reset is a matter of seconds.

I found that tomtom 2.05 and gps 2.09 is the best marriage. Tomtom 2.24 does have some bugs such as after planning a journey it takes ages to go to the navigator map.

Tomtom's site states 2.24 adds PocketPC 2003 support but to be honest is didn't even try tomtom 2.05 i just upgraded it straight away.

Just put GPS 2.09 on and its nice to have the bar on the Today screen to launch tomtom, we'll have to wait and see if the problem with disappearing buttons still occurs, but it's been OK so far

I did not persevere with WM2003, it seemed to be very flaky on my XDA, I am sticking with XDA dev rom 1.2.
Swifty,
Many thanks. This has really got rid of alot of the bugs.
Does anyone know a url of a UK map update. The packaged map doesnt know alot of roads built over 18 months ago
Ashby
i followed all the examples bu i still had the missing radio buttons.
i tried every combo of updates and GPS versions. so i have kept the lastest versions.
however i have found a way to stop it occuring. it seems that the radio buttons only disappear after you launch the GPS software. i have avoided launching it and have used tomtom for a while now and the radio buttons have remained there.
Ashby, I dont thin tomtom do map updates as such, they release the new maps when the next version is released.
Yes, I kind of figured that. They hint on their website that map updates will be available when there data supplier gives them new data, but I suspect that they never will release an update and force you to by Navigator 3.
Bad show really.
A cool feature would be map editior, that way users can add new roads/ modify road layouts etc
Ashby
I purchased the Navigator USA version about 8 months ago and just last month TomTom sent me an email stating that map updates would be available soon. I followed a URL in the email and signed up for the updates and within a week I has seven new cd's that contained all the updated maps.
I don't have any complaints.
It must just be the UK!
never had a prob with tomtom v2.24 on v4.00.11 on v4.01.00 it took bluddy ages to load up and it hanged loads. but now that im on vA.30.07 it is a hell of a lot faster then v4.00.11 and seems alot better
Radio Buttons
Another confirmation on the radio buttons problem with TomTom. The problem is still there even with the latest version (2.24 & GPS 2.19).
But, I have been able to trace the bug down a bit. Can't prove it, but maybe others can confirm:
It seems the problem is related to the GPS-S/W. Whenever I change anythin on the configuration there, I lose the radio buttons until I do a soft reset. SPecifically when you change the COM-port, you lose the buttons.
We've been doing some GPS/NMEA S/W development around the serial ports ourselves. WM2003 has some ugly bugs in this area, such as hanging when you try to open a port that isn't configured or active).
But, as Microsoft points out: Its not a bug, its a feature (verify that the soft reset button still works)!! ;-)

great job dcs.
let me be the first to post and it's regarding Incoming MSG.
When i first got my unit from Philippines, it was loaded with 1.66WWE and with this version i was able to select preloaded or customized WAV as incoming SMS tone. But it went missing when i upgraded to Waxx's 1.72 and even now to the latest o2 UK 1.72. Anyone else experiencing this?

Personally, I find the performance to be improved and also stability. Also, when a call comes in, the Answer button on the dialog works, which didn't before. As part of the extended ROM, O2 have provided improved video streaming over GPRS plus video for MMS (I haven't used either yet). The OS itself has the Microsoft user update 2 included. Of course, the 181 release also has Blackberry included.

OK. Strange, but at least you are sorted
Edit: Maybe it is something in O2 Active that causes the problem? I have uninstalled it, so perhaps I am unaffected. Could other people with O2 Active still installed throw light on this?

Hi, I have installed the new rom (1.72.187). Everything is ok but Messenger. I can surf web sites using gprs and wifi but i cant connect msn. I always get the same error. "Logon to MSN Messenger failed because the service temporarily unavailable." But i can connect with my laptop. Any idea? thanks....
dcs,
have you tried Battery Pack Pro v1.1.10 on this? The last time i used this with 1.66WWE, i keep getting total blackout on my XDA2 with Bluetooth light steady blue and i hard to perform hard-reset. since then i was afraid to try again.

Have you applied the latest patch from Microsoft? Take a look here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/msnmessenger/pocketpc.mspx
It does state that you cannot access the service unless it is applied. Quote: "Customers without the updated software will not have access to the Service until the download has been completed."

I also have identical experience using the Battery Pack Pro v1.1.10 on 1.60 WWE. Being scared to have a try on 1.72. Should anyone pioneer on this, please also let me know. Thanks
Blackberry?
I'm trying to understand what the benefits of having Blackberry are. The Blackberry website says you get all the stuff which I'm sure I already have with my XDA. Things like e-mail and IE. Except for my e-mail which is blocked by my ISP, Plus.net (I can only view/download e-mails, not send new ones).
What's the big improvement I'm supposed to get with Blackberry? :?

I am running v1.1.1 with no problems on the v1.72 Rom. Worked fine with 1.60 also but no experience of v1.66.
have already installed New ROM 1.72.187
in this ROM, i think it work faster than 1.60 but liked other 1.72 ROM from T-mobile.
In the Ext ROM ,it doesn't include some software such as GPRS monitor.
Now ,I desired to cook it.
More stable without question. Only thing that I have found is that the O2 logo can't be moved. Dam thing stuck in middle of title bar. BT Tools works ok. Better wapsupport for o2 active, though XDA seems to forget it's connected and will drop connection and reconnect when conecting to O2's wap service.
Still it's a worthwile update.
I am having problems with Fonix voice dial. When I adda voice tag I get an error that it cannot update, hard or soft reset doesnt help. Also if I restore my backup using the built in backup program I find that streaming video and blackberry programs both vanish from my xda 2.
Feed back
looking good so far. I have added all my apps including BPP 1.1.1 and everything works fine.
SRS now works as well whereas before it trashed my xda II
I am from Asia but installed this UK o2 ROM and found its totally working good.
However, one thing is the autoconfig function has gone.
Anyone knows how to get this from the previous AISA rom?
Blackberry Config
Anyone been successful with this yet?
Ive activated the install and the BB client tries to connect somewhere over GPRS, but eventually suspends itself.
Ive got access to our Corporate BES so should be able to get it working. However, there seems to be some mention in the ROM upgrade guide about a desktop client manager (needed on PC to download the policy).
Ive seen posts that say O2 is not making it availble until Jan 05 - anyone confirm?
Oh, and Im actually using Vodafone

Blackberry & 2003SE

I'm using an Imate & Vodafone SIM, and when o2 released their new update which included Blackberry support I upgraded my device. Everything worked perfectly, I travelled to the Far East and Blackberry functioned correctly.
When I returned I decided to upgrade to 2003SE V2.06 and installed Blackberry, it didn't work. I then downgraded to 2003SE V2.02 and installed Blackberry, still not working.
So today I reverted back to the o2 V1.72 update, still not working, and the Blackberry Server is showing 'Illegal PIN Number'.
This is just a warning that the SE update may screw Blackberry up, or o2 & RIM have noticed that everyone is using their software and started to block non o2 devices that are running the software.
Hi,
Same message on my BES: 'Illegal PIN Number' and BBY not working. But I have it till the first time trying to connect, one month ago..
The client connects, gets an IP address and disconnects displaying the 'not connected' icon. However, the client receives Policy and Services from Server.
I still haven't found a solution... Any help welcome.
Serge
Eaxactly the same as I'm getting, I'm going to try the suggestion about removing the user from the BES, deleting settings on the XDA & Docuements & Settings and see if this works.
My initial thought was that the PIN number had changed but that does not seem to be the case.

t-mobile
Strangely enough same problem happened to me today. I called t-mobile they reproivisioned ... n othing etc. All of a sudden this afternoon it's working again?
I've tried everything, and still no joy, I emailed RIM and they just referred me to Vodafone, carefully ignoring the question about 'Illegal handheld PIN'.
Just out of interest, what is the PIN number of your devices, my only thought now is that we all have the same PIN, mine is 613F1E63. If this is the case then the upgrade has screwed our device ID's.
If not then there's a way of identifing the network from the PIN, and a block has been put on none o2 devices.
I've had a thought, what versions of BES are people running, we're runing V3.6 Sp2, the latest is 3.6 sp4 so I'm wondering if there maybe something in sp3 or 4 that fixes the Illegal Handheld PIN problem?
Is it possible to confirm BES versions an if the Blackberry client is working.
Sorry, I'll be at office only next week.
I'll then tell you my BES version. I think this is a good idea.
Serge
HI there.
I've been having the same problem, with the Australian Telstra network- I get the "illegal pin" response from the sever, even though the XDA connects OK (the server notes that it is is contact with the XDA)
Has anyone found a fix? Not sure if the culprit is Telstra blocking PIN's that are generated by devices that are not supported, such as the XDAII

Actually, all blocking happens at the master RIM relay in Canada. RIM regularly sweep their system for 'illegal' devices and software versions. So hacking the software out of 1.72.181 and putting it into a dodgy 2.02 build qualifies as 'illegal'. BAM - your PIN is blocked by RIM.
Changing your software afterwards back to 1.72.181 wont work, because the PIN is still blocked. You then need to call your mobile provider and beg them to get it unblocked.
:?
Thanks for that.
My original ROM was 1.66- are you saying that I have to go back to this version and then install the BB app, and then beg the mobile provider? If they re-set the PIN, will that get caught up in a sweep?

Interesting. Sorry for all of the questions. Will removing and re-adding the user from the BES once 1.72 is installed suffice, or does it have to be re-set by the carrier?

WM5 (UK T-Mobile) to WM6 (Black Majik) and the latest (1.43) Radio

My Experience of Upgrading – thanks to Modaco and XDA Developers - See link for latest update - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1370896&postcount=9
Having just successfully upgraded everything I thought fellow (junior) Hermes owners might like to know of my experience. For those of you about to embark on such a move, and especially for those on T-Mobile UK, you will hopefully find this useful. There are plenty of links throughout this post that should help.
1. Preparation. Having read what felt like all the information here on this forum, and others, I finally decided to start the upgrade work to take my Vario II (UK T-Mobile Hermes) to the latest (phone) radio, the latest Windows Mobile Professional 6 Black Majik build and also to CID and SIM unlock the phone to boot! All without a single problem after a significant amount of reading – but most significantly by simply following the instructions and understanding what they were asking me to do before carrying out what might actually render my Hermes a ‘Brick’ with no warranty! The XDA Dev Hermes Wiki is a great place to start and so is the upgrade guide. Warning: If you are nervous about the upgrade there is a serious amount of reading required to counter those fears.
2. Backing up. I keep very little on the actual device so all I had to do was note all the settings and backup the call records and SMS messages. I used Pim Backup to backup the calls and messages and in fact found plenty of installation .cab files that could be run from the device to restore the T-Mobile settings to allow GPRS, SMS and MMS etc.
3. The Upgrade. I did the upgrade in 7 stages getting more ambitious with each, I did not encounter one single problem and did this over a 3-day period plucking up courage as I went. This is not the optimum path to upgrade but allowed me to get familiar after first protecting my investment with Hard-SPL from OliPro – I also wanted the radio most initially:Insurance 1. Using Paul’s guide I dumped my old T-Mobile supplied WM5 OS ROM so that I had an option to get back to at least the basic WM5 build should I need to consider warranty claims. This worked OK but was undoubtedly the most complicated part of this process that use many quite advanced tools – not for the beginner I would suggest! I doubt that many will do this and I would not recommend it (I can post the dumped ROM) as others already have now) Warning: if done wrong I suspect that this is the most likely part of this process to wreck the device!Insurance 2. Having read the guides (see MrVanx and his Hermes Guide) I upgraded the IPL and SPL with Hard-SPL (thanks Olipro) to avoid ‘bricking’ (wrecking) my phone -took less than 10mins.Radio. The radio was my first upgrade goal because I’d read good things about improved reception etc. So I went straight for the latest extracted radio ROM (1.43.00.00) from the XDA Radio ROM page as this had good reports on UK T-Mobile. - took only 6 mins.WM6. Having read lots (and lots and lots…) I opted for the Black MAJIK ‘cooked’ ROM because it had so many good reviews (see XDA and 4WinMobile and Modaco) and liked the look of it (note: you can easily change the theme away from Black to more conventional appearance). The download site is http://wmblack.info/ and there are lots of applications and configuration files here. (thanks Jasjamming) - after some pre-reading the actual upgrade too only 5 mins!SIM & CID Unlocking. To get access to the extended ROM for additional storage space I had to use Pofs cooked radio ROM to make the device "Super CID" - this also removed the SIM (operator) lock and the CID (language) lock. I was then able to use HTweakC (one of many tweakers) to mount and unlock the ROM. This fix now allows me to use any operator SIM card, install any language OS ROM and also to mount and unhide the Extended ROM (Note: in WM6 it appears that this fix by Pof is required to write to the Extended ROM whereas in WM5 it can be done solely with a registry hack). Thank you Pof because the batch file did it all without problem (albeit I was really quite nervous because the Hard-SPL was removed and the radio downgraded temporarily). - this took a longer 18 mins in total (after reading). – this left me with the wrong radio and the potential to ‘brick’ my device with subsequent upgrades so…..Insurance. I put Hard-SPL back on (to protect the device) before…Radio. Re-upgrading back to the latest radioI now had a perfectly functioning Vario II with all the latest software ROMs installed and it was future proofed against my further upgrades and testing of ROMs that will certainly come after this….
5. Re-Building. I used a .cab file created by Lordsmiff on Modaco (here) to configure my T-Mobile settings and it all worked. I used the backup of the call logs and SMS messages from the Pim Backup software to restore those and then I started the installation of all the software I wanted. Of course I also had to configure pop3 access to my e-mail, enter my correct Device ID and all my personal details.
6. Problems. I had very few problems. The Internet connection would not work for my pop3 account access (OK for web browsing though) and I found that a setting (settings-connections-connections-Advanced (tab) and Select Networks button) needed to be changed to “T-Mobile Internet” from “My Work Network”. Not all of my call log was reinstated so I lost some calls. I also found out initially that I could not get full ‘write/delete’ access to the Extended ROM because it needed to be SIM/CID unlocked (or at leats part of that) before running one of the tweaking programs. That was all!
7. My Software. I installed all my usual software with no problem and all is working very well: Spb Mobile Suite/backup & Diary, SK Tools, TT6, Modaco CamerAware, Comm Manager Pro, and MS Livesearch.
8. Result. All is great so far and I have a nicer looking, slightly faster, better radio reception phone that holds 3G longer. Bluetooth pairing with my handsfree Jabra BT250 is fine and the BT pairing to my GPSlim 240 is OK too. Wifi at home also works without issue (still limited range as before). Yes it all took lots of effort to avoid the problems but it has been a free upgrade and I owe a few donations to those that made this possible – a GREAT BIG thank you to all you cooks and developers out there .
I hope this helps some of you - of course reading the Wiki is excellent free guidance offered by many (some not so politely!)
I’ll report back here on any problems I have and if anyone spots an error then please let me know and I will fix it so I do not mislead others.
EDIT - latest update (all going well) here.
Good Luck!
Nice 100th post, and nice guide as well

I have completed the stages (except reinstall the radio? why? mine was still the correct version after installing black) expect my T-Mobile settings are not working. I cant get MMS's to download using any settings cab I have found.
Is there anyway to manually edit these settings?

In my original post (at top) I included this:5. Re-Building. I used a .cab file created by Lordsmiff on Modaco (here) to configure my T-Mobile settings and it all worked. It worked absolutely perfctly for me and if you had done so I doubt that you would have had any problems at all.
If you used the cab file and it did not work then please post a reply.
Regards
Tony,
Have you noticed a great deal of difference with the radio upgrade?
thanks
Mark
good reference!
@Tony, thanks for the very good detailed outlined upgrade reference. It should be helpful for others to see the complete process from start to finish.
WM5 to WM6 (Black Majik) and the latest (1.43) Radio - UPDATE
This is an update to my original post at the top of these postings
My Black MAJIK Experience - Going well so far!
All going very well still and no problems at all with any software. Some slight slow-down after installing all the software but that is to be expected with any OS build. The main problem with slow-down (only slight) appears to be caused by Today screen plug-ins - the HTC Home Plug-in in particular.
Likes: Very Stable, absolutely no Micro SD card issues (had them with WM5), looks and ease of use of the WM6 Internet sharing capability which even my daughter can share on her Mac laptop!
Dislikes: very few indeed - go for it! There is a newer Black "Satin" in creation (JJ working on this right now) which is based upon the official HTC WM6 build - might try that next when others have posted on their experience. My only small dislike is the lack of contrast on the start menu with the black theme - in bright light it's easy to miss selections.
Problems: On a couple of occasions the speed dials have gone missing (suspect I caused it). I locked-up the device once and had to hard-reset but that was my fault again because I used too many Today screen plug-ins and it would not boot completely. Now have Monocube Safe Mode 2 (recommended) installed and so I can push the limits of Today plug-ins and not fear being unable to boot-up now.
Radio - I had absolutely no problems with the 1.43 radio but of course had to try the even newer 1.47 version. This new one seems little diffrent so far so I'll give a week. Do not forget to check Hard SPL is still on your device before flashing updates - the super CID/SIM unlock removes Hard SPL - so you need to put it back. BTW - there are instructions on how to remove the SIM lock without applying the Super CID fix - they seem more complicated but it might be worth a look before you embark upon the Super CID route.
Unless you see more from me then assume that my experience with Black MAJIK and the latest radios (1.43 and 1.47) are all going well. If you want more detail before embarking then just PM me - but read this whole post first.
Have a look at the Kaiser Homeplug.
problems
I have followed your instructions and installed the new radio and black majik and have used it for a couple of weeks. I have experienced problems with voice calling. The Icon tells me there is no service provider (T-mobile in my case), I can't make voice calls but SMS and internet still work. A hard reset solves the problem - but then I need to reload everything - annoying to do once per week.
I will probably try a different radio, unless people have other ideas?

Working good here on T-Mobile (Aberdeen, Scotland)
Where abouts are you?

Hugh,
I have still had no radio/phone problems at all. If you have the Hard SPL still on the device (it will be unless you did the Super CID bit) then you can just flash new radio ROMs to the device without ANY need for a hard reset. The radio is completely idependant from the OS. It sounds to me like you must either have a radio/phone hardware problem (were there any issues before upgrading?) or the radio flash upgrade was not completed correctly. Did you use the radio ROM linked to from this site?
I'd suggest that you check HardSPL is there then simply run the radio ROM update again. Providing you do this correctly and do not brick your device by doing something silly - like disconnecting USB or power - the upggade of radio should have no impact upon the data or programs installed on your device - and that also includes all your SMS/MMS, E-mail and Conenctions settings.
Good luck

MWg Atom Life & T-Mobile (USA)

Hello Everyone!
My first post here... hopefully someone can help me out here before I start "taking chances" and flashing my new MWg Atom Life. (I've never had good luck flashing ROMs, so it's a bad thing for me... lol)
Anyways, I have a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 (the original one) and my Atom Life (pre-loaded with WM6) just arrived today. So I went over to the T-Mobile store and had them replace my BlackBerry Connect Data plan with their "T-Mobile Total Internet Add-on".
Now, keep in mind that I have done alot of custom .NET CF development on WM and have used it alot as part of the testing process for those applications, but for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to connect to T-Mobile's EDGE network. I've configured the ISP/Modem settings correctly (and tried both "internet2.voicestream.com" and "internet3.voicestream.com") BUT everytime I try to turn on the "Data" session, it says that it "Cannot connect for an unknown reason".
I can make and receive phone calls just fine and the GSM network is automatically detected as "T-Mobile". Any suggestions to get the data plan working?
Thanks in advance!
Here's what worked for me (Atom Life/Windows Mobile 6 and T-Mobile USA), just follow the steps below in "paint by numbers" fashion:
Go to Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections icon, then...
Under GPRS Settings, "Add a new modem connection"
Next page: Enter a name (I used "T-Mobile Data") and select "Cellular Line (GPRS)" - Note that choosing simply "Cellular Line" will not work, must be GPRS.
Next page: Access Point Name: wap.voicestream.com
Leave the next page blank and the Advanced settings at their default, and just click "Finish"
Let me know if that works for you.
And while you're at it - once you get Edge going, let me know how you handle voicemail notifications. I don't get a VM "flag" from T-Mobile, and my work-around - YouMail - doesn't seem to be able to send text messages to my device (interesting, since I get all other text messages). That's my biggest (my ONLY) problem with the Atom Life and T-Mobile - having to guess if I have a voicemail message.
Lee
Those are the exact same steps I followed, but I put in 'internet2.voicestream.com' AND 'internet3.voicestream.com' instead of 'wap.voicestream.com', since according to this Wiki, I have to use the other ones: http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/T-Mobile_Data
I went ahead and tried your suggestion anyways and it is now working, although I don't know if there are any port/connection limitations when the 'wap' access point is used.
At this point, everything has become more and more frustrating. The firmware is very buggy and the slightest program crash takes everything down requiring a power-cycle. Then the my date/time settings get lost everytime I do that (while everything else remains there).
Do I have a bad ROM? Should I re-flash it? If yes... from where would I get the official firmware again? Remember, this is an MWg branded Atom Life that was purchased in the USA from Expansys, so I don't know which firmware/ROM I should get for this.
Interesting. I bought the black MWg Atom Life and had issues with the ROM, too. Extensys told me to go to the MWg site and download the latest ROM, but none of the ROM downloads would install (ROMs were IMEI-specific, and my IMEI was not listed). So I upgraded to the XDA (White) Atom Life, branded with the original O2 rather than MWg, and I like the ROM version a lot more (has all the original O2 software).
It sounds like your ken with these devices is likely keener than my own, but the first time I loaded my device it too was prone to crashes. It had this annoying habit of refreshing the screen at random intervals - not as in refresh rates but as in the screen going blank for a second and then redawing itself. I resolved the issue by doing a hard reset and re-installing my software, soft-resetting after each install. It then ran smoothly for a few days, but when I realized I was missing a lot of good software, I decided to switch to the Limited (white) XDA version. Right from the get-go, the O2 seems much more stable than the MWg; hardware is identical save for the color, so it's the firmware.
I should add that Extensys has so far been really good to deal with - very helpful and they seem interested in keeping me a happy customer. Rare, yet so refreshing. Don't be afraid to call them about this.

So there is one problem I am having with T-mobile and my Atom Life is that since I got it I get the VM flag on my phone but I DO NOT HAVE ANY VM's! I searched for this all over the net but seems like I'm the only one who has that problem and everyone has the opposite problem of no VM flag at all and they have to guess for voicemail. If anyone knows anything that can be done please tell me.
Thanks
