Hello! I haven't yet bought an XDA for myself, but I have been researching my purchase for months - thank you very much to the people who run this forum, and to the people that have posted so much useful info...
I have also already downloaded heaps and heaps of software to try - I am a software-nut and already have hundreds of apps and games, over 200Mb so far - but no XDA to try them yet!
I already have a nice Panasonic 256Mb SD-Card for my new XDA, but... I have realized that I can't afford a 2nd-Hand 64Mb XDA this month from eBay, although I can afford a 32Mb from eBay. I don't want to wait another month, the waiting is driving me crazy! (I left my old PDA on a train, and my life is falling apart without one!)
So my question is - Will a 32Mb XDA be enough, combined with my 256Mb SD-Card? I know that some apps won't run properly from the card, and I'm afraid that 32Mb won't be enough... On the other hand, I've read that it's mostly system programs that need to be run from the RAM, and they're mostly quite small... But I don't want to get a 32Mb XDA and then find I need to keep shifting apps from the Card to RAM and back again just to get everything running... What's your experience, and your advice?

I have the 32MB with kitchen 4.00.05Rom packed full of the free programs.
And yes you have to watch your mem use all the time and I keep a shortcut to a soft-reset program handy.
All my apps are in the sd card and so are the avantgo files.
The only things taking up storage is the PIM data and about 1.3MB of excel files which I need to sync
leaving about 20MB free.
This works very well for me and I do multitask a lot of programs.

I did upgrade to wm2003
Most of the 32ram is used by my Pim
All apps and data are stored backed up on my sdcard and pc
so a restore or glitch is quickly resolved

I have a 32 MB unit (the 64 MB unit broke at some point). It works fine for me, but then I'm not software freak. I bought "Spb GPRS monitor" from SPB Software and "Agenda Fusion" from Developer One, and that's about all I use, apart from the programs installed on my theft-protected 4.00.11 ROM (I ran 4.00.05 until yesterday...).
If you're that much a software geek, why not get a 32 MB one and have it doctored to 128 MB? Gets you 64 MB main RAM, and an extra 64 MB ultra-fast virtual storage card. Links should be somewhere on this forum, and if memory serves me right it wasn't too expensive.
(And have someone lined up to buy it when the XDA II hits the stores ofcourse.)
I have a 32mb qtek, and would like to upgrade it to 64mb. Of course you can have extra storage with SD cards, but some functionalities don't work on SD card, because when the device is off, it sometimes need 2 or 3 seconds after power on for the card to be recognize. So if you place ring tones or pictures of callers (to use with Caller2picture i.e), they won't be displayed since they try to load picture/ringtone immediately at power on in case of incoming call.

Most people do well with the 32MB version, unless they're geeks. I'm one of those geeks, and really like my 64MB, but did survive with 32 for a while. Unless you plan to load a lot of stuff internally, you'll do fine with 32.

Has anyone tried the 4gb minisd on the Wizard, yet? I'm thinking about gettin 1 but I'm don't know if the Wizard/tmo mda will support it or see the entire 4gb.

It is a scam. Read the feedback. These are hacked 2GB and smaller cards that have been formatted to be 4GB, but that greatly shortens their shelf life, and in most cases they'll die within a few months, if they last that long.
How do you hack something so freakin small?
I'm not positive, but I think it says in the manual (8125) that it will only recognize up to 2GB ... Probably will change with later updates...just as the earlier PCz would only recognize so much RAM and HDD space until their CMOS was updated.
It may be a hardware limit. I'm from the DRAM side of things, so I'm not exactly certain how flash is addressed, but I do know that with DRAM, most computers are limited by the physical number of address drivers that are built into the chipset. Just looking at a Mini-SD, I'd guess that it's a serial device, so maybe it's just a matter of a firmware upgrade to change the bit size of the address data - or maybe it's something completely different and I have no idea what I'm talking about (it wouldn't be the first time!)

I've never heard of a 4GB miniSD, before this post. (I have seen 4GB SD cards advertised, could there be a confusion with that?)

They are also on Amazon.com for $146. They claim that they have them in stock and others have mentioned that the picture of the card has been edited--the number 4 that is. I am somewhat tempted to try it if Amazon will back me.

4g miniSD that works
I have purchased a 4G miniSD from http://www.emartbuy.co.uk/index.php.
It works. There is a small problem with access time, i.e. it takes longer to write to and access the card than the 2G did, but apart from that there are no issues.
All I did was use a card reader and copy everything from the 2G card to the 4G card, put it in the device and away it went, like nothing had changed. Except now there is twice the storage. YAY. The card is brandless and is probably a reflashed card, but I don't care because it works for me.

Is it conceptually feasible that the Athena could take one of these???
Think of the possibilities, the Athena could truly be a UMPC, much like the Sony UX series.

Nope.. Sorry.. The HD in the Athena is a stripped down 1.8in drive so its actually a bit smaller. The 2nd gotcha is that the interface is not a standard connector, thus nothing else will work (For now).

It seems the smallest SSD's out there are 1.8 inch which are still too big for the Athena, whose hard drive is more like 1.0 inch(?).
FWIW, the connector is important too, and I beleive that the type of connector the Athena uses is identical to the type available on the new SSD's.

if u want flash u have to go CF with a converter to connect thats it, unless you want to cut the caseing and tape the ssd on the back

Even with a terabyte of solid-state, its still not a "UMPC", as UMPCs are known on the market today. Don't get me wrong, I love my Athena and I certainly think of it as a much more of an ultra-mobile PC than a proper "UMPC". Inputs, outputs, ability to run just about any utility app you could want, it has everything. The only thing it lacks is high-capacity storage like a true UMPC and I know that's the point you are making. For me that won't be an issue since 8GB (plus 8+GB on the SD card) is more than enough for a ton of tunes, several movies, and all the apps I'll ever use.
I don't mean to split hairs, but whoever comes out with a PDA sized device that place calls, get email and has an SSD over 64GB, will get my money.
What I do is to install all applications either in microdrive or the device. music and video files go to the storage cards. Because no application is on the storage card, I'm able to swap my storage cards like I would with dvd disks. This means I have the ability to have whatever amount of storage as I want. Currently with about 80 applications installed, i've used less than 10% of the available space on microdrive. I should never ever need all the 8gb of microdrive storage space. I do have at least 20gb of music files, and these go to the storage cards. If I select only the 5 star rated songs, all would fit into one 4gb storage card without problem. I'm now eyeing the 8 gb storage cards though.
In short, I don't feel there is a need to install bigger size SSD, although it would be nice if this can be done.

one major point i see in this upgrade even if its a minor size upgrade will be its durability.ive owned my wizard for 2 years and ive put it through so tough falls and what not.not saying thats gonna happen with my athena,but not having a problimatic microdrive would be a plus,big plus.

Sorry I wasnt sure where to post this question on this forum but would appreciate some help here, and to say the least I am quite unhappy with my samsung omnia icon i8000 windows mobile.
I have a Samsung i8000 which has 16GB of total memory, this being 8GB onboard and another 8GB on MicroSD card total of 16GB. It is also to my understanding that the 8GB on board is also dedicated to the My Storage ram as well.
Well this is the dilema I am now facing;
1. When ever I installed a software/prog on the phone I always install to My
Storage. In My Storage I have 7561.41MB free and so far have only used up
274mbs, so quite a bit of free space left.
2. My MicroSD card is free 100% nothing installed on it.
Ok now here is where the fun starts. i've got hardly any software in this p, prob a few apps here and there but bugger all. And now I am gettings errors or messages telling me that my memory is full, but its not full, My Sto has got heaps of ram left or memeory, the storage card being a 8GB one is empty so
whats going on, sorry but this is very annoying to me.
Also another very annoying thing here is, a while back I tried to install MS compact framework and eevn though in My storage I had ample of space it still said my memeory was full, and yet it wasnt.

Hi to all you knowledgeable people. Some assistance and general clarification would be great on this, please.
The story starts with my wife's phone. I don't think that the model etc is important for this question, but it is an LG F60 (or something like that) and it is nearly new. The phone only has 4GB of memory so I made sure that I bought a good size SD card to go with it and I have set the OS to use the card for all media files. This seem to be working as all photos and music etc. are on the SD and there is nothing memory hungry on the internal mem. She has had the unit for a week or so and added perhaps 3 apps + those that were there as part of the out of the box config and now the thing is full - really! So I have a look at the memory usage and see - total 4GB - some apps and some bits and bobs 1.4GB - 'other' 2.44GB. When you drill down 'other' is almost all something called ‘system data’. So the first and simple question is this - does the android OS really need ~2.5 GB out of the box with little use, or have we done something wrong / ill advised? [BTW there are no backups locally, they are remote through a google account]
I connected the device to the PC to try to diagnose the situation. So the Internal storgae is reporting 60MB free of 1.32GB. This implies that 1.32 is all that we had to play with at all which would point towards the fact that the other 2.44 is correct for the OS. There is a folder called android which has ~25MB of data in it but nothing sizable elsewhere on the viewable internal storage space.
Out of interest I have connected a 7" android tablet to the PC to see if this reports the same sort of usage. This is showing 4.3 free from 5.5 total. This is an 8gb device so again this would suggest that 2.5 is used for system, which supports my initial fears.
If it does take 2.5GB just to provide a UI then is it wise or ethical for manufactures to sell devices with this little memory. Who would have thought that we would be suffering from memory issues in 2014 when a 32GB SD costs the price of a sandwich and a drink. I really am struggling with this whole concept. I mean an Ipad cost a lot of money and yet you have to choose to get the one with 32GB rather than 16GB even though the difference probably costs the company literally pence (if anything) - what is going on? My son had to remove loads of things from his ipad to even update the OS to the latest version - it just all seems soooo very crazy to me. With 4GB memory these phones are coming to the market and they are barely fit for purpose. You can buy a laptop these days (for not too much, a few hundred at most) and basically you can just sit and chuck data at it for years before you have any storage problem. Yes - I do understand the dif between a hard disk and RAM (it is called something else now I guess), but even so, these whole tablet industry is seriously flawed by this design limitation IMO. To add to this fact that it is made difficult to transfer data to and from ipads (less so android I realise) and they don't have an expansion slot, their popularity seems a fantastic mystery to me.
Anyway rant over - can somebody help me to understand the phone issue and how I might go about moving the OS onto the card or something of that kind which might improve the situ.

OK...you offered...I am thinking about purchasing the Huawei Ascend XT. In the specs (phonescoop) I noticed 16Gb internal storage with 8.4 "open" usage. That's 7Gb of factory installed bloatware? #1. Other than the Nougat O.S. could most of the bloatware be SAFELY removed #2. In asking that...is most of the bloatware Google and google support services?

I haven't bought the phone...yet. I'm in need of a new phone and it's just one of 3 o r 4 I'm considering. Doesn't almost 3 Gb's of bloatware seem like and awful lot? It does to me. One other item of question: I noticed and it very much caught my attention, in the specs it states: FM Radio-YES. Is this an FM receiver (local FM radio) or just Internet Stream FM?

i dont use the fm turner app i remove it from my roms or least my phone my roms have pretty much all the bloat removed that i could find im still working on new one will be a bit the phone is nice just when we finally get a working dev tree etc we will have custom roms the phone has same hardware as honor 5x i do believe the rr port i did where wifi was broke the phone runs fast so im trying to fix the wifi for it for temp if i can if not im still working on my new rom
It's a FM receiver which requires wired headphones to be connected as the wire functions as an antenna too.

I'm using stock ROM on B170. My phone only has 8.55GB of internal storage available. From the advertised 16GB. I only have 0.44GB left. I really don't have much on my phone. But as a result of low storage I can't have all the apps and games on my phone that I want.
.how can I expand the internal storage to be more like the 16GB as advertised. What's the highest amount you have available on your phone? Do you have more than 8.55GB on your ROM? If you do how much and link to ROM plz.
Because as you know we can't install aps on the SD card. Or do you do that?

Uninstall apps you don't need that take up internal storage, use the storage manager to clear apps caches, move data including music, pictures and videos to micro SD, set apps to store their data in micro SD where possible. Can't do anything else that I am aware of. I usually have 1GB free internal storage after doing this and have to do it regularly.

First, you need to know that no matter what, there was never 16Gb of memory. They (all electronic storage) "say"-advertise 16gb (or 8 or 2 or 64...etc) but in actuality there is only the nearest binary unit number closest to 16Gb. 16 Gb is actually 16.384 Gb or 16384 Mb.. Got you confused? OK, all storage is designated in "bytes" (one unit of storage) and bytes use the binary system when computing their size/storage capacity. Therefore an "advertised" 16Gb is only actually just slightly more than 15.9 Gb. If your not sure what I'm saying, use a conversion chart for Mb to Gb (or vice-versa) and remember that your dealing in the "binary" code. Then , on top of that, manufacturers set aside a certain number of "sectors" to account for bad/defective sectors that may occur when manufactured. Thus, it would not be unusual for 16Gb to actually only be about 14.7 Gb (or so) of actual usable storage space. Example...I have a "16" Gb pendrive that has 14.5 Gb of "actual" storage capacity on it. If the doesn't make sense to you, look up "How electronic storage works" (google-bing...etc..) Next, look up just how much "space" the O.S. on you phone occupies. Then, after deducting that number from the "actual" storage capacity, you'll be able to determine just how much "bloatware" you may have on the phone and you can -CAREFULLY- start eliminating some of those apps. This will open more "storage space" for personal use, (Mb's) on the phone. One last thing...you can put apps on an SD card. Now, that said, SOME SD cards are not "compatible" with certain phones and that may prevent you from being able apply the apps to the SD card. No you don't have me confused at all. Thank you for the response Madame. Sorry for the late reply. Well I think today is the day I will finally root and flash a new ROM. As im tired of EMUI and no adoptable storage.
Can you link me to the ROM you reccomend? I want adoptable storage. Not that much bloatware. Full functionality, including camera, wifi, netflix, wireless display etc. Also I want a little more available RAM if possible. I want adoptable storage. Please reccomend a ROM.
One more thing. I've seen that the Samsung Micro SD cards above 32 GB are working for this phone . But I may pick up a 32GB or 64GB Sandisk micro SD card. Will the Sandisk be just as compatible as the Samsung? I plan to simply get an Class 10 of 95mb read speed and 10mb write speed. Like the Sandisk ultra or the Samsung evo cards. Thank you fam.

What's up. I'm new to these parts of the forums. I have downgraded from s8+'s and now I'm on the H1611. I have your b180 room installed on my device and for the life of me cannot get Xposed to install without dealing with the constant boot loop. I know it takes something like 20 min. I've read somewhere but an hour is ridiculous. I have tried flashing through TWRP and I've tried through Magisk and no luck. Any idea to get Xposed installed?

Another thing is it normal to have ram at like 300-400mb free? This phone feels super sluggish and I think MIUI is far too heavy for this phone. I agree with the folks in here that want lineageos. I'll search for a branch or source tree to see if I can get something going at least. If not I'll join the club with trying to build a tree. This phone has "0" snappiness whatsoever. A friend's LG Leon lte feels way faster than this BEHEMOTH of a phone

several of us have Magisk Xposed installed and working.
Well, I actually have it installed now and haven't posted here since this part of the forums are a complete ghost town. I was gonna share my current build for this device but seeing from the lack of anything here I'm not gonna even waste time releasing it to the general public. And thanks for your response but it would've been easier with just providing some information rather than making me go through pages of nonsense. But the response is what matters. I will be returning back to a real device shortly because this phone is not as snappy as everyone says and nor is it as good as everyone says for it's dollar. I bought this phone and a brand new Samsung j3 and kept this phone because I hate Samsung but now I really wish I had kept it. So good day/evening. I am out....

Well what information exactly were you looking for? Installing Xposed is not a one liner and can get a bit complicated with all the different versions.
You could have written up what Xposed version you installed and how you did it to help the next person - that's how forums work.

Exactly so, why was your reply opposite of what you are telling me? And it's quite obvious that there is only the magisk way of installing it. I'm not trying to argue with you man. I asked that question a day or 2 ago and I noticed that no one really was even cruising around in the forums so I said to myself what the heck, might as well keep trying things on my own. Also, noticed developement has come to a complete stop a while ago. I honestly thought this place was deserted. It's all good though, like your thread says, to ask you anything, so I could get pointed in a different direction haha. All good though,case closed bro later.

It's not my thread - madvane20s thread. Yep, slow around here cause the main party is over since the devices are low volume/low-mid range and been out for a while. Enjoy your J3.
