GER to ENG HOW - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

hello
i need to switching languges from GER to ENG,IF POSSIBIE TO DO IT
AND HOW.
BOLDI

Hi Boldi
I suppose the easiest way would be to "update" the ROM to an english version. It doesn´t necessarily have to be a higher version, just take any that is named ....ENG
By the way, if you use the xda-developers SE ROM you can even switch the frequency from 900/1800 to 800 in case you happen to travel to the US. There is a tool included in the package for that.

xda: Which ROM to use?

Hi there,
A close friend has recently upgraded to a new phone, and passed me her xda. It's currently got the following:
ROM Version: 3.12.07 ENG
ROM date: 08/13/02
Radio version: 4.06
Protocol version 32S54
Model No.: PW10A1
I've just downloaded the lastest ROMS from myxda.com (3.20.06 ENG, 07/30/03, Radio: 4.21, Protocol: 32S54), and am just about to flash my unit.
I don't have an SD card, should I try to get one before I do? (There is no data in the xda yet, I just got it a week ago). What'd be a 'good capacity' to get?
Besides the 'official' rom above, which would be the best rom to install onto the xda? I'm very keen on having IIWPO, but am a little daunted by all the options available out there. (And if applicable, please advise on the 'best' PPC2002 and PPC2003 versions).
Should i be looking at 'alternative' radio stacks, or is 4.21 good? Would be nice to have the option to switch between GSM900/1800/1900, but it's not very necessarry. (I'm gussing this is controlled by the radiostack, and not the ROM?). My current region uses GSM900/1800. I do occassionally travel to the US
Advice please? Thank you!
Your phone is capable only of 900/1800 so will not work in the usa on 1900 band. I would suggest leaving your radio stack alone if it works ok as 4.21 seemed to break more than it fixed. The sd card method of upgrading is a much better way of doing things in my opinion. You can use the bootloader to backup your existing windows ce then you can flash a new rom from the kitchen and if not happy you can restore your system, this isnt the case with radio stacks so be very careful about radio upgrades. xdatools gives you a heap of options for backing up, reading, writing, storing etc of rom images. The original idea for rom flashing by programmers was partially to do with the fact that there is lots of unused/wasted space in the rom area, the developers decided to write lots of useful programs to the unused space which makes the xda a super pda/phone instead of a mediocre pda/phone.
Thanks for your reply; however, I was quite excited about the modem capability, and have since installed the 4.21 radio stack. Am not sure what the issues are, but I probably won't notice, having no prior experience with the unit.
Been playing with it for most of today, and must say it's very interesting. There is a whole slew of sofware most kitchens carry, that I have no idea where to even begin!
Would it be correct to say if I cooked a rom with only 'theft protection' checked, and everything else turned off, it would be the same as the 'original' rom that was released? Would like to learn more about the xda before venturing into the powertoys
The question I have however is: How do I choose which BaseROM to use?
In Lumpistefans ROMkitchen, I see:
WM2003 -
4.01.16 ENG
4.01.19 GER (default)
A.30.09 ENG
Whats the difference between each of the above? Does O2, or O2asia have a WM2003 release yet? It would appear some of these ROMs, once installed, cant be downgraded without an SD card - which are these? Or at least, that is the impression I get when browsing these forums. Can I replace them with the same version cooked rom? (just so that i won't get caught in a bind experimenting with the theft protection)
PPC2002 -
3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro (default)
3.19.01 GER O2
I currently have 3.20.06 ENG from 02asia,which seems to be a newer version than in the kitchen. Should i try to extract mine, and send it to the kitchen (that is if they take uploads/contributions)?
If I wanted to build my own kitchen, where do I start? I do already have access to a linux box that runs a webserver and supports php. Been searching all over but cannnot seem to figure where to download the kitchen scripts (a direct URL please?). Am actually interested in creating my own custom boot screen (THIS PDA IS MINE! - with a picture of me :lol
Other misc questions:
If I wanted to 'zero' the total in/outgoing calls? Do I need the serial cable with xda manipulator? Could someone point me to a circuit dragram where i can wire my own serial cable if that is the case, or is there some other way to do it now? Can I still do this having upgraded my radiostack to 4.21? or did i just lose the chance to do so?
Is the headphone connector similar to any other mobile phones? (eg: can I use a nokia, or motorola handsfree?) or is it propietary?

4.01.16 is the offical WM2003 release from T-mobile. It's the same as the 4.01.00 Beta. As some mates here reported some issues in this ROM, I 'm still using the 4.01.00 with no problems at all.
The 4.01.19 is obviously for the German devices. The 30.09 is a very good stable ROM from AT&T except that it has a very silly sound issue that kept many from using it

You may PM Stephan to get his advice, but if it's only for a customized boot image, I believe there is a special tool for that can be used with the .nbf file before flashing.

It's propietary, but you can get an adaptor to allow you using any standard Nokia headset ... check Expansys
Thanks Biso, hadn't realised there were 2 seperate timers, and I was originally looking at settings-device information, and could't find the 'reset' button.
But now, I'm back with a little situation...
Spent some time reading the board, and learnt about the differences between the PW10A1 (900/1800), and the PW10B1 (900/1900). The little I did figure out is not to muck with the 'other' radio stack, and stick with 4.21 (my unit is from asia...)
However, I didn't quite realise the ROMS were different too. So, right now, my PW10A1 has a 'b' WM2003 firmware in it. No big problem, except when I wander into settings-phone-band, I'm forced to choose either 900 or 1900 where I then I lose network coverage.
I did try the bandswitch tool but that didn't work - I basically have to reset into the bootloader and select 900/1800 there. :x
The only place I can find to cook ROMs right now is Lumpistefans ROMkitchen, and the little I've learnt so far is
4.01.16 ENG - PW10B1
A.30.09 ENG - PW10B1 (I prefer this over 4.0.16 ENG)
Yes, there is a whole slew of threads on how to get Bs back to A, and As back to B. I'll go do that as soon as I figure out which are the A roms.
So, the newbie question I have is : How do I know which roms are PW10A1 and which roms are PW10B1?
Also, are there any other (public) kitchens out there? I can't get to the one on yorch.net.
Finally, when I do ever get down to setting up my own private kitchen, would it be possible to directly modify the base ROM, and change B roms to A? (ie: A.30.09 ENG becomes a PW101A1 rom, and settings-phone-band would show 900/1800 instead? or at least hide that menu item?)
There is no connection between the ROM version and the device type .. you can use any ROM with A or B device ... However, with A devices, you should never touch the band selector found in 4.01.xx ROMs as it was released by T-mobile for US regions (900/1900) ... but it works perfectly for 900/1800 as long as you have the proper RSU.
In general, always refer to the rear sticker to get the device type and forget what's written in the device info ... of course if the mother board is still the original.
A30.09 should be a very good and stable ROM except its sound bug, that's why I consider 4.01.00 is the 2nd best for now.
These are very good kitchens:

A30.09 doesn't have a band selector as it has auto band switching interface with the RSU, and with your own kitchen I dont' think you will be able to modify such basic feature like the band selector ... you can barely add some addtional s/w to the ROM space ... which doesn't justify building your kitchen for just changing the device type displayed.
Good luck ...

Newbie question: Hot to upgrade ROM?

Hi
I have a Vitel TSM400 PW10A1 and I want to unlock it. I have read in the forum I need to upgrade rom, but I don't know how to do it.
Frist of all I don't know what is the rom I Have and I don't know what rom should I need, where to get it or how to install it.
Any help where to get that information?
ROM stands for Read Only Memory - part of your device's memory that hold the Operation System and some basic software.
To change ROM:
1. Read more things like "Flashing ROM is dangerous!!!" - very entertaining!
2. Go to http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org and find the ROM you like - all of them should work with XDA1 devices
3. Download as rom.exe and start from the PC (activesync + cradle) or try SD method
4. write back soon!
PS: what rom do you use now? (Start>Settings>System>Device info...)
If you just want to unlock, the easiest way is getting an serial cable to attch your device and get the XDA Manipulator from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/XDAmanipulator.
Otherwise you have to update your ROM.
Best ROM for unlocking ist the XDA Developers Special Edition 1.2 or you can use the 3.17.03. There is an liitle program (xdaunlock) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/XDAunlock you can use for unlocking. Afterwards you can use all ROMS you want. (even restore your old one)....
HTH
Stefan
UNLOCKED!!, at least. Thanks.
Finally I downloaded the Xda Developers rom 1.2 and Installed. It's in english so I can't type the letter Ñ , but now the XDA is unlocked. That's a good thing for me.
The "problem" is that I had this rom:
ROM is 3.18.10 ESP
Rom Date is 08/15/2003
Movil version: 3.24.00
Protocol: 32S54
Model PW10A1
And now I have 3.17, an older rom.
What do you suggest, stay with this rom (XDA Dev 1.2) or upgrade it to a better one?.
Do you have anything against Windows Mobile 2003? If so, 3.17.03 is the best.
Otherwise, you should try WM2003 (4.xx.xx, A.3x.xx, R.3x.xx) - it has a few cons, but it's faster and probably more powerful...
I have not anything againts any rom because I'm a newbie.
The only problem I have with 3.17 is that I have not letter "Ñ" in the keyboard and some other spanish symbols. Without Ñ I can't write the name of my city "La Coruña", the name of the... ejem, vagina, in spanish we say "coño" and some other interesting words  like año (year), España (spain), cariño (darling), niño (child)...
After installing the 3.17 I made a backup from 3,18 ES. If i restore that backup, Should I have 3.18 ES again?
1. My point was that you use PocketPC 2002 Phone Edition and it's an older generation of OS. But if you are satisfied with what you have, there is no need to upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003.
2. To write in Spanish you need a spanish keyboard - it can be downloaded as a part of localization software from your provider's site (or any other company that sells the machines in Spain). For example, except for english (built in) keyboard I also use russian (russification pack from hpc.ru) and czech (czech localization from the CD) ones...
Thanks a lot, now I have to find any spanish keyboard for the VITEL TSM400.

How can I get rid of the T-Mobile splash in my Hurricane?

I upgrade my Dopod566 (Hurricane) with T-mobile SDA software, but I didn't like it, so I reflash the system to Dopod566. The problem is there's T-Mobile splash in the starting, and I didn't like it.
So would anyone tell me how to get rid of the T-mobile splash from my Smartphone? Many thanks!
I have the t-mobile sda2 and i also dislike the screens, but what i did manage was to find 'RJV RegTweaks UI', this is a real simple regtweaker only for a few settings. It did manage to change part of my shutdown screenS, but my startupscreen(s) remain the same. Since you're original is a different phone, maybe you can search the registry (be carefull not to erase anything, stay alert, hype on caffeine or something what works 4u) for t-mobile startup/shutdown screens. It should be easy to find?
But i've added the regtweaker, not a regeditor, i don't have it here at work.
Dopod566 you say?? Do you have any screenshots? And how stable is it? I haven't heard of this rom before... And maybe you've read my other post... I want another rom, more stable rom
Let us know if you succeeded in getting the screens to bugger off, it is valuable information
Dopod566 is the one version of Hurricane sold in Chinese. The stability can be accepted, but can only display Chinese and English can in this version. Actually, I'm finding 2005 version.

So, let me see if i understand you correctly...
This rom you have is standard in chinese and can be set to english? Or is it english and can be set to chinese? If the last is true, i'd like the rom, i think, because my chinese isn't so great
And have you found a wm2005 version? Or are you searching for one?
Because i definately need to update my rom, but can't find any suitable roms for my hurricane. Only the SDA 2 and a .nbf for an 'orange' c550, but i don't know how to flash my phone with a .nbf file yet...

Movistar Argentina ?

Wich is the best Hermes TYTN radio rom for Movistar Argentina ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405990
Movistar Argentina
Thanks, I understand what you say, but, I don´t want a Spanish Rom, maybe I express myself in a bad way, What I want to know is, wich is the best RADIO rom for Argentina, My TYTN has Radio version 1.32.00.00, I want to know if I install the last Radio version, if there is a problem if I install the last one.
Thanks
You can install the rom which will upgrade your radio then install an os only rom over the top leaving the radio rom.
I'd use the sd card method to install anything with a radio in it as this is the easiest way of making a brick if you aren't careful or something interrupts the flash...
Alternatively, there should be radio roms on the wiki.... try search function...
Cheers...

Can I flash a HTC Fuze with HARDSPL with a HTC Diamond Pro spanish rom?

Hello there! For 2 years I change HTC english ROMS to Spanish, I had different models without a problem.
Here my doubt since I see that the HTC Fuze has a couple of problems with ROM's changes.
I look neither for the sure one, nor that is the last one, nor the Best cooked, but a Rom that I install and it work without need to change the RADIO or loose the 3G.
Since the ATT has the american band of 3g and I am in Argentina (wich use ameircan band also). As HTC Diamond Pro has european 3G band if i flash it a spanish rom from spain could i loose the 3g network?
Any idea?
Thank you very much!
you can flash whatever touch pro or fuze rom you want, but if you have a fuze and you flash a rom set up for the touch pro you are going to change keyboard layout (the cab is somewhere in the forum). any radio works with any rom although depending on rilphone.dll, some radios may work better on certain roms but you can replace the rilphone manually. you won't loose the 3G as the rom doesn't interfere with the bands.
