File Explorer Bug - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi,
I hope i'm not the only one having this problem.
When I lunch PPC 2003 File Explorer, it doesn’t show any folders in My Device, just a blank screen
The file explorer worked well when I first installed PPC 2003 4.00.05 but I guess one of my programs I installed after did a bug.
Anny ideas??
Cheers,

If you tap "open", then type in "windows" for examples, does it open the windows folder?

No and none of the buttons in the botom (My device, Storage card, NetworkShare) are responding to the action.
realy strange :?

if it worked once before but now all of the #$% does not, you could try looking for the .exe for file explorer using another file explorer app like total comander and the .dlls and delete them (may have to rename or overwrite then delete) upon a soft reset ROM should put back the defualts knowing they are missing. I haven't tryed this with the 2003 OS so only try this as a last resort before you revert to a hard reset incase it @#$%'s up your machine. Hmm now that I think about this I'm not sure that will do it. I theory it should but keeo in mind I'm just trying to trick the OS you most likely will have t Hard Reset. If it's never worked..don't know

File Explorer not working

Hello All
Im currently running WM2003 version 4.10 and this morning I started having problems running file explorer. The file explorer opens but I cant browse anything, even if I connect via active sync and click on explore I cant browse the through my PPC. Any suggestions? Thanks
Happens to me once or twice (4.05ENG).
Stuck at My Device with nothing showing below.
Can still browse with activesync though.
Only cure for me is a hard reset or use one of the other file managers.
happened to me too...i just did a hard reset and everything was ok
Happens again.
Heres a less painfull fix:
Take out SD, Soft reset, Run File Explorer, Put back SD, Works again

File Explorer not response

Anyone find this problem, my File Explorer not response when I try to copy or delete some file. Onely End task can stop that error, event i make soft reset still come error again.
Thanks
I have a similar problem...
However, for mine, when I copy and paste a file, the "hourglass" keeps going and going and going. After a while I just press the X and close the application.
When I open it again the file I was moving is moved and everything is where it should be (ie. copy and paste was successful)
I've got the I-mate 1.72 rom

Same problem as yours... The problem doesn't exist if using third party explorer.
I have another problem which made me decided to hard-reset it: Whenever I install an apps or game, I could not find the newly installed program shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs or \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games, I would need to soft-reset my device to make it appear.
I know how to resolve this problem
first goto Start---Program---AutoConfig-- then change network you want or leave default your system will running smooth again.
DON"T WORRY, your data will not lose.
Thanks
Actually, there is an awesome program you can use instead of the MS File Explorer. I just installed this because of these headaches, works good!
https://www.handango.com/PlatformPr...&order=desc&catalog=30&txtSearch=File+Manager
Some reasons
1. No compatible new fonts (may be for dictionary) with File Explorer
2. No compatible new themes (ppc2002) with File Explorer
Solution
Delete new font from windows/fonts
Back to theme windows default then soft reset

How to make read only file writable?

IN the windows folder on my touch dual, there is a certain file, which I want to modify. However, this file is read-only. I've installed total commander on my device (the latest beta version, but also tried it with a previous non beta version) to change the read-only attribute. but without any result. I also tried it with SPB pocket plus 4. I'va also tried to change the attribute with altap salamander from my pc, but somehow the file is still not writable. Am I the only one with this problem and is there a sollution to fix this?
the file I'm trying to modify is HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml, in which the cities are listed that will be used in the weather plugin on the today screen.

As I mentioned above, I've tried it with total commander and failed. Tonight, I've tried it with resco Explorer and at first I failed to find the file. I seemed to be hidden. When I found the option in Resco to unhide hidden files, the file showed up. And again, I can't remove the read only attribute with resco explorer. In resco there's also an attribute rom checked, which I haven't seen before in any other program. I can't uncheck it. Might that be a problem? I hope someone can help me out here, for the "normal" touch, it was possible to just uncheck the read-only attribute.

U want modify HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml right ???
Just copy it to your computer.Modify as u want in PC.Go to Windows Folder use Resco explorer unhide HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml original in your phone and copy HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml change to it.
Good luck
I can't overwrite it, since it's read-only. Which attribute I can't remove somehow.
yeah ive experienced this also!cant seem to overwrite the files in windows folder.dont know of a solution though!
After a few attempts, I succeeded in copying a modified H_0409_WeatherCities.xml over the original with reco explorer. So now I only have dutch cities in the list for the weather plugin. THe only thing is, that the cities I added my self (Delft and Nootdorp) are not working somehow. Does any one know if other cities, that are not in the default list are blocked by any party? (HTC or accuweather.com?)
Try this
Get the file off the device.
Modify it,
Run enableRAPI to give yourself manager role (A belive this is what it does, it has all the same effects as manager role)
Then copy the file back.
The problem is that you are not on a high enough teir in the security setup of the device.
This is why DM servers such as intellisync can overwrite any file it wants, as it automatically assume OEM role.

I found Total Command(er) on the Gishler website.
The latest updates are from June 21, 2005 . This seems rather old.
Is this the wrong program or have the programmers done such a good job, no updates were needed since then?

The latest update I see is from April 2008, just FYI. It works fine on my HTC Touch Diamond, anyway.

Corrupt files

Hi,
I searched through everywhere but did not find a real good answer.
On my HD2 Phone Memory I have a few files that have strange filenames with strange characters. I want to remove them but then it says it can't cause the file is corrupt. (Don't think they are corrupt, just problems with the filenames) I also tried to remove the whole directory but then it removes all files in the directory but not those strange ones and then it can't remove the directory cause it is not empty. Also tried to rename them, but it also is telling me the files are corrupt.
The only option I found that probebly will work is the Hard Reset, but I don't want to do that since I want to remove them for my backup program wich also can't handle these files.
Now, I tried the original explorer, the Resco explorer and Total commander.
Does anyone has an idee how to remove them?
thanks
Rom: Artemis 18 NLD
Radio: 2.10.50.08_2
Is there nobody with an idea?
are these in your device memory or on the sdcard ....
if they are in Device memory I would say a Hard Reset is your only option to fix it, but if you have corrupt files in device memory , you may have a hardware issue ...
If you have corrupt files on your SD card, copy everything you can to your pc and then format the card ... and then put your stuff back ...
If it does it again, in either place, you may have some hardware problems ...
OR, this could be too, had it on a guys phone the other day, PC infected with a virus that keeps trying to spread to the phone every time it is plugged into the PC ...
watcher64,
Thanks for the answer,
It is in device memory and it is not a hardware issue since it is only from one app. YouTube. Obviosly it is the caching (windows/YouTube)
I use an other YouTube Application now. But the other files I can't remove. I did not want to hard reset since I don't want to reinstall all the stuff. Eventualy I will reinstall with a newer ROM. But I was planing to see how stable this rom is and just try using it for at least 3 months. I can backup everything with excluding that specific directory. But I just will keep trying to remove those files.
So if there is anyone out there that knows how to remove those files.....
Are there tools for this filesystem, (wich filesystem is it?)

I searched on app store and found ese file explorer
Installed it and successfully run it
BUT the rename thing doesn't seems to work
I renamed a .exe file sample download.exe
A long hold press, then rename, the rename was good but
the file type is still a file not folder,
And I don't have any idea on how to change the file type
Does ese explorer app doesn't do the work?
Should I try your suggested app?
Or no Choice just to reset my phone?
Thanks for the quick reply
btw guys, i fixed my .exe problem, by doing a factory reset,
but for those guys who have the same problem and don;t want to do factory reset
replies and solutions for this problem is still welcome
