Band switch - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I have 2 T-mobile XDA. one with the XDA-Developers' Rom v1.2, the other with original T-mobile rom unlocked. The original one's phone setting area has a "band" option which allows me to switch from GSM 900 to GSM 1900 and backward. How come the XDA-Developers' Rom doesn't have this feature? I am currently in a GSM900MHz area. The original T-mobile's phone works, but the phone feature of the XDA-Developers rom doesn't.
Sincerely,
Robert

We noticed there needs to be a more thorough phone and SIM reset before it really switches band in some cases. Try pulling and re-inserting the SIM...

GSM 1800 or 1900?| Network loss

I don’t know how to find out what band my smartphone uses. It’s T-Mobile, so it should sell in US, where GSM band’s 1900. But my T-mobile was in box, designed especially for Russia. The letters are in Russian, a GSM band indicated on the box in big black font is 900\1800.
But device information tab in WM 2003 displays "Hardware Version: PW 10B1" (as far as I understand that means 1900 band). In spite of this on the back of my device is a sticker with PW10A2 sign. Where's the truth?
Maybe my device uses 1800 frequency?
But anyway in the band selection tab there's only 2 bands 800 and 1900 (
If my device supports 1800 band, how can I activate it?
The seller’s support tells T-mobile MDA supports 1800… But they can’t explain how to enable it.
I don't know whether connected my second problem with previous. I think it is.
Sometimes my device doesn't find network after it lost it. Example: after leaving an underground subway station. To find a network I have to turn the phone off and then to turn it on.
My radio version is T310. If this problem doesn't connected with the first, maybe I just should change a radio version to a newer one?
The sticker tells the truth normally. Are you going in to bootloader to choose your band?
How can I choose GSM band through boot loader?
Enter bootloader by holding power button while pushing stylus in reset hole, when bootloader appears push the button below antenna, you will then have all gsm options, choose 900/1800.
You may be S O L!!!
You better hope your XDA is not a 900/1800 MHz one otherwise you're going to be SOL unless you plan on living overseas because here in North America, the wireless carriers like AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless LLC and T Mobile USA use EDGE/GSM/GPRS on the 850 and/or 1900 MHz GSM aka Next Generation network. 900/1800 MHz GSM is used overseas and is considered the international GSM bandwidths. Cheers!

International 3G Coverage -- TMO US G2

Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance for the possibly n00b question. I am in Italy now with a T-Mobile USA G2 that I unlocked with GFree 0.5/adb/everything yesterday. I put in my TIM (Telecom Italia) SIM card and it finds the TIM network and connects me to normal phone service, but simply does not connect to 3G. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm assuming the G2 is capable of overseas data connectivity because T-Mobile advertised it as a "quad-band" phone -- am I wrong? Do I need to install a custom ROM to have international 3G?
Yeah, I think you are screwed. According to the t-mobile site here your quad band phone has the following freq specs:
850 MHz;900 MHz;1800 MHz;1900 MHz;UMTS: Band IV (1700/2100)
The band IV is the t-mobile 3G band in the states that uses 1700Mhz uplink and 2100 downlink (also known as AWS). Unfortunately for you Italy uses the typical European freqs of 1900Mhz uplink and 2100 downlink. And no you can't just use the downlink!
On the bright side, EDGE should work.
Thank you very much. I think you are correct: it's shameful and pathetic that T-Mobile advertises the G2 as an "international" phone and then provides a phone with support only for a single UMTS data band (unlike the iPhone 4, for example, which has support for 900 MHz UMTS/HSDPA).
As per the suggestion that EDGE should work, that does not appear either. All that appears is the "cellular" network icon -- a.k.a., the one immediately to the right of the battery. There is no "E" data connection either as there would be in the U.S. when I am out of 3G range. Is that normal? Is EDGE simply the normal cellular network?
I feel your pain, having traveled internationally a lot
No, when you are connected to GPRS you should get a "G" symbol near the signal bars and when you are connected to EDGE there should be an "E." If you are not getting that then a couple of suggestions:
1) You have switched on the data connectivity on your phone, right!!? (duhh)
2) Did you buy this SIM card new? There are older SIM cards where I had a problem getting the data connectivity, though that should not be a real problem.
3) Did your phone get the right APN settings from the SIM? In most cases for TIM I think you want ibox.tim.it and you *might* have to set in manually
4) Is this a prepaid SIM and do you have a balance? The network will probably reject the connection if you have 0 balance
5) If you don't have a plan (even prepaid), your balance will go down VERY quickly. In fact, your phone may have actually connected when you were not looking, and run your balance to 0 just by syncing.
The best deal for TIM data packages are listed here. I use them all the time, however if you are in the big cities WIND is pretty good and MUCH cheaper.
Hope that helps

Network realted question. Please help!

Howzit guys,
I brought a HTC Aria in the USA on AT&T network. I came back to SA and rooted my phone put Android v2.2 on (phone came with v2.1) thinking that would unlock the phone, but it didn't. I ended up looking on the net for a website that I could get an unlock code for my phone. Long story short, I found one, paid for it and it worked. I'm using the phone on Vodacom no matter what I do I can't get 3G or HSDPA to work, only GPRS. HSDPA and 3G work fine in the states.
After doing some research I noticed that in the Mobile Network settings on the phone there is 3 options under Network Mode:
1. WCDMA only
2. GSM only
3.GSM / WCDMA auto
Now from what I've seen I need to use WCDMA to get the 3G / HSDPA to work, but when I select option 1. I don't get any signal and then phone eventually switches to GSM automatically. I was at work on the weekend helping a customer with her laptop and she had a 8•ta 3G modem, and 8•ta 3G modems are currently running off of MTN's network I was told this by an 8•ta technician and I noticed when connecting the modem it said something regarding WCDMA.
So now my question, if I change to MTN do you think I will be able to use 3G / HSDPA on my phone?
Any info regarding this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
The American version of the Aria uses different 3G frequencies (because that's what AT&T uses), so unfortunately your phone will not work with 3G in South Africa. There is a different version of the Aria (called Gratia in most regions) that is the exact same phone except it supports the correct 3G frequencies for your country, but there's nothing you can do with the phone you have now to make it work.

Confirmed: TMOUS Radar does 3G on AT&T

(Forking original thread)
I confirmed that the TMOUS Radar *is* capable of 3G on AT&T.
I unlocked it this morning and put in a prepaid AT&T SIM (GoPhone). HTC Connection Setup ran and a few minutes later I was on AT&T with 3G support. The phone recognizes the HSPA+ signal and lights up the indicators with the '4G' label.
The phone's box says it supports UMTS 1900 -- this fact is not listed in any other spec I've seen on-line for the device. That band is only one of the 2 AT&T use for UMTS, so if you are unlucky and have only 850 then 3G/4G probably won't work. Guess AT&T uses 1900 where I am.
Do you know of any way to tell which band at&t uses in various areas?
Sorry, I don't know of any way to know that. I am not an AT&T expert -- knowing whether the phone could be used w/ AT&T 3G was an academic exercise for me just to satisfy curiosity.
What did you use for unlock?
Wonder if it'll work, roaming on AT&T 3G, with a T-Mo US prepaid SIM...
- Sent from my HTC Radar 4G using the OMG XDA WTF WP7 BBQ App. =D
I got the unlock codes from T-Mobile.

Standby SIM | 2G Only?

The preferred SIM is able to pick anything from 2G to 4G, but that causes the standby SIM to have only 2G as a "Preferred Network Type" option.
Is this normal behavior? I made sure the documentation didn't limit the radios on the standby SIM before getting this phone because my one of my carrier does not support 2G, only GSM and LTE.
The SIM works great if I select it as the preferred SIM since it then goes on 3G, but goes back to "Emergency Only" when not preferred.
Is this a hardware limitation on the chipset? I know some other phones are like that (ZenFone 2 for example) but it clearly specifies that limitation on the box. I was expecting both sim cards to be on 3G.
That's dual sim dual stand by on 4g you mean? Forget about it is only marketing on this phone and much other. I have 2 sim from same provider and both 4g or 3g but only one work at same time another has no service same on my LeTv x600. ?

It seems there is much confusion about the DUAL SIM. Maybe I can help... If you insert 2 SIM Cards the following happens, you must choose which card SIM1 or SIM2 will be used for Data Services. Both slots support LTE but only one can be active at the time. Otherwise, both SIM Cards are indeed active (means they support calls and SMS) however the SIM that is not used for Data Service will be "only" shown as GSM (G) while the other will show LTE (4G) in the status bar. Since most providers use GSM for phone calls anyway (regardless of the data connection) your SIM should work both as active and second. Having said all the above, yes, the option for the standby SIM is only 2G - which is really GSM for that matter (or G in the status bar).
GGranello I am not agree with you. In my case provider is not over 2G service only 3G and 4G and have only 2100 band so one of two SIM is with NO SERVICE (of course I can choose The active SIM) but both doesn't work in same time. And for video calls 3G is needed am I wrong? I want to say that on GSM you can't make video calls.

Mr. Claude, my description was meant to explain the way the Phone seem to handle the dual SIM. If Your provider supports ONLY calls over 3G and 4G than you will be out of luck using that SIM as secondary. My (I agree limited) understanding is that GSM providers must support GSM calling in any case but that may be no longer the case. I have used the Phone with 2 SIM cards for quite some time now, one with LTE for Data and the other for Calls and SMS and I had no issues. I have not tried any Video Calls as the prices are quite high here, it is my understanding that you need a 3G (or better) connection for those. And even with Android 6, the P9000 does not seem to support VoLTE calling either.
Yes I am agree with you that this phone does not support VoLTE but neither two 4G or 3G SIM from same Network Provider working together or "DUAL STANDBY"
I have owned a number of dual SIM phones and all of them supported 2G/3G/(4G) on one SIM but only 2G on the other. Before the latest MTK SOCs, it was generally the case that SIM slot 1 would support 2G and 3G (and maybe 4G) and slot 2 only 2G. Now it is possible to swap the SIM functions via the settings menu, but one of the SIMs will still be restricted to 2G.
If your SIMs are both from a provider which doesn't support 2G, like Hutchison Three in the UK, then I'm afraid you will only be able to use one of them at a time. There may be dual SIM phones that support 2G/3G/4G on both SIMs at the same time, but I haven't come across one.
Yep me don't even knowing or heard about one phone that's working with both SIM cards on 4G in same time and actually have 3 phones in my hands all 4G and dual SIM and not work either with 2 SIM on 4G in same network.
