media player won't start up after upgrade !!! - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I've a XDA PPC 2002 phone (from O2 Netherlends). My provider
(O2) publishes Radio and ROM Stack upgrades on almost 2-
months basis.
I've upgraded my device several times with the newest
updates. But, since last upgrades Windows Media Player
doesnt work anymore. I did soft-reset, reinstalled Media player and skins but it doesnt work. It keeps asking for a skin file and then disappears.
If I browse the internet, I can see that this problem must be ocurred to more people.
At the moment my XDA's Radio Version is 4.21.00 and ROM
Version 3.17.03 ENG.
Anyone any tip??

I have rom 3.17.03 eng.
radio 4.21.000.
protocol 32s54,
no problems here with media player 8.5 build 12177

Dead Media Player
Solution:
Use a registry editor, goto \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys. This is where you have hardware button mapping. You should only have 2 keys there (Mine is named 40C1 and 40C2).
If you have the window media issue, you should find another key there, which was put by some other softwares installation, for e.g. Fonix voice central. You need to delete it.
if you dont have a registry editor, download this free one from phm software.
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/download.asp
good luck

ntabikha ,
I looked into the registry, but there are only 2 keys: 40C1 and 40C2.
Has it to do with TomTom???

Kimmie, I am also running Tomtom, so I dont think that is the problem either.

no... i fix my player all the time, because i always try softwares that change those settings. hmmm.
maybe it only works on the original version, not the update you installed.
try removing the updated version, all it does is give u skins. if you dont c are for those, remove it. that will default you back to the original.
my company replaced my xda 5 times, because THEY cant fix it. hahaha
good luck

i did a hard-reset and MediaPlayer worked! But, when I did a restore (of my backup), MediaPlayer came up with the same problem. :-(

Are you restoring a backup from a previous ROM update?
If so, then that is probably the issue...with any ROM update, you need to start from square one and not restore a backup from a previous ROM as it may revert any new improvements to the registry, and what not, of the latest ROM.

You are right. It is better to reinstall all the applications.
But if you have a lot of software, it is very hard to do it all over again!

How can I upgrade my o2 xda to windows pocket pc 2003 ??
www.yorch.net ROM kitchen
Good luck
Read everything three times before doing anything with a downloaded ROM.
BACK UP your current ROM and save it to a PC before you install a new ROM.
Don't change your radio stack unless you have a good reason to and you know that the new stack will work well with your carrier.
Back up your data before you start playing with the bootloader. The first time I tried the bootloader the PDA did a cold boot when I came out of the bootloader program. My Outlook data (contacts, appointments, Tasks, etc) were backed up but I lost some files in RAM that I hadn't saved to the SD card.
Yorch's kitchen is the best way to get started. You'll probably want to try a few different options to figure out what apps you want to squeeze into the ROM.
The pocketplus in the ROM is a 15-day trial version. When you first boot your PDA it will be set to some old date depending on the ROM version - as soon as you set the date to the curent date the 15-day trial on PocketPlus will expire - either look it over before changing the PDA's date or go to the Pocketplus website and pay the license fee to get an unlock code.
Have fun and BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

missing checkboxes after u/g to 4.0.11

Hi,
i have a 32mb xda and after upgrading to wm2003 i lose the checkboxes in dialogs, if i soft reset then they come back for a while and tapping on the text next to the box enables/disables the option but i get no boxes!
most strange, also i had to turn off the ir recieve but when turned off i still got the error for com 1 with navigator, i had to uncheck it then soft reset to apply that change.
i cooked the rom from jeffs kitchen a while ago and was going to redo it but it is unavailable and Yorchs only has the 4.0.05 rom.
Any ideas on the missing dialog checkboxes.
Regards
Smallboy.
Hi ! I had the same problem (even with no other app installed ! Just wm2003 and nothing else) , and I never solved it ... till the 4.01.00 went out. I tried this one and had no problem. All attempts I made with earlier versions were unsuccessfull ! Unfortunately, no rom kitchen use this version yet ! So I have a 'blank' rom version from T-Mobile found somewhere on a post on xda-developers.
Hope this help !
cheers for the reply,
as i unbderstand it the 4.1 rom only support gsm 900/1900 which is no good for me as a uk/orange customer.
regards
I have the same problem.
Im using an xda 2 on o2 with the following software
tom-tom navigator 2
gps 2.08
towa's patch
resco explorer
pocketinformant
spb pocketplus
claunch
clearnotify
Anyone else see a pattern?
Surur
Ditto for me. They're still "there", if you click your stylus over where they should be, you'll get them to work.
A reset clears the problem.
Looks like there's a leak that is using up the GDI heap. You can get the same type of error on desktop Windows.
the error is caused by navigator, i installed v2.24 on mine and also when i installed it on my mates xdaII he now has the same problem with checkboxes and radio buttons missing, they come back after a soft reset but go after running navigator..
Smallboy
smallboy. You can use 4.01.00 on Orange as long as you only update the CE Rom and not the radio stack. Just make sure you don't go onto the Band select page on the phone settings.
Hi Swifty,
Can you give me a dl site for 4.1.00 rom.
cheers m8
ftp://tmobile:[email protected]
You need to just extract the CE rom using something like winzip, then use XDA Tools to put it onto an SD card and flash to your phone.

Neil
cheers Swifty, i have this now, all i need is a way of making the nb1 file into an .exe
UPDATE
I have now reflashed to 4.01.00 (t-mobile) and then installed navigator and voice but not gps, upgraded nav to 2.24 then installed gps 2.09
No missing checkboxes now but stil get the initial strtup problem of no map, which is cured by going to navigator mode.

UPGR 2003SE - Power Button problem

Hi!
SE rulezzz ...but i have one problem: while my MDA is craddled or on external power, power button is OK. But on battery power (& not USB craddled to PC ) first push - turned off my device (its OK) but second push not turned on - only result is green led is off . While somone call to me, my device automatically is on, & all i s OK. I mean, this is a software problem...Maby registry tweak is needed??
TNX
just wonder what version of OS you running??
no problem on my CH Win2k3SE
tested , just like normal
I had same problem after installed the "Vito Buttonmapper". When I was uninstall it and proceeded a hard reset, the power button working again...

OK,
ROm v. 2.06.00WWE
ROM date 06/14/04
Radio 1.14.00
EX ROM...hmmm....2.06.100a combined with extensions of ERA
next i add PHM tools, KSE True Fax 2.0, Fonix Voice Apps...
i had this problem on SE but because i restored my back up files, BTW maybe you want not to restore your information i found it makes it much more stable
Same problem here with 2.06. Hard reset doesnt cure it. Also I don't have sound from the audio jack anymore with this rom....
Make sure you don't have frontlight_wavedev_dim.sa.CAB in your extended ROM. This caused me problems too.
A second hard reset with empty extended rom did cure it though, also I have audio again. Will now put the cabs back one by one to see which one is the culprit ......... to be continued
TNX guys, maby hard reset is only way to remove this problem. This weekend i will try to do this, and will be testing, which aplication cause this problem.
I only installed the camera from ext rom and everything seems to work including gprs, bluetooth gps, contacts, audio.
so i figure why clutter my mda with all kinds of stuff that I evidently don't need ? so I left it like this and I now have a perfectly stable SE rom

Hi All
Now all working gut . I has clear EXT ROM & im testoing all CAB's separatelly....The "bad boy" is customization CAB from ERA (not SE).
TNX 4 All!

since i install the new ROM, i cannot see the Extended_rom even i use ExtromTools unloker and unhide ....
the first time i boot, it's working, since no way.
thks
Conovor
try installing callerid again from another cab
it worked for me when i installed another version then removed it again!!!
Hi,
do you use Wisbar ?
When I upgrade my Qtek 2020 to Sin Merged rom, same problem occurs.
But I find out it was because Wisbar 2.1.10.
Just when upgrade Wisbar to last beta 2.1.14 the problem was solved.
Without Wisbar, caller id worked just fine.

no, i don't use wish bar.

Integrate ROM with Extended Rom

Hi folks,
I've really been trying to find the information I'm asking for. So please just tell me if my questions have been asked before
I'm using the unbranded Tytn with Eplus (ger). The device itself works and I wouldn't change anything about the software if it wasn't for Active Sync. I sometimes have to end it with the Task Manager and start it again before it will sync anything. He doesn't even connect to the Exchange server. Sometimes there's the message "waiting for network" (or similar, own translation). Sometimes there simply NO message at all (where he usually says "looking for changes", etc.
Finally he claims the host is unreachable - other applications (Pocket IE, e.g.) don't see a problem getting their packets out.
This is great with Push Mail. As far as I can say he gets his problems when I'm moving (driving car, even when going to the other side of a building): He changing the cell phone masts. He loses his connection and is uncapable of regaining it.
Does anyone know this problem? And if, is it fixed by any update? I'd say since it seems to be an application-only problem upgrading the windows rom should be enough, shouldn't it?
And how can I use the rom from Vodafone with my original extended rom to keep my provider settings?
First of all try the EXtROM unlocker to make sure it works on your current ROM or look for your ExtROM on the Wiki.
If you can unlock your or if your ExtROM is on the Wiki then you can just update the windows ROM. When the ROM is updated and you go through the initial setup, wait for it to say it will install some additional programs. Hit soft eset before the timer counts down to the install of the ExtROM to stop it.
Then use the ExtROM unlocker and delete all the stuff in there. Then put your ExtROM contents in there. Next, either run the ExtROM stuff manually or I usually do a hard reset and let the device do it automatically.
If that doesn't fix your connection problems I would suggest exchanging it for a new one if possible.
I also like the fact you refer to your TyTN as a 'He.'

Mine is a she...anyways though
jokinawa I thought we could have the ext rom initiate itseld unless the cabs were signed with htc's thingy? unless this has change recently. Oh how I would love to try the south africa rom with a cingular ext rom and some goodies...

hehe
I use the Imate 1.20 ROM with the Softbank ExtROM that autoinstalled after I replaced them and did a hard reset. I also did it previously with the HTC ROMs.
then it should work fine since all those cabs came from the carrier. but i meant for say installing ms voice command

I think since its capabilities to frustrate his owner this devices definitely have to have a soul. Or are at least living somehow.
Okay, I have to admit, "she" would be more appropriate in this case, but...
I'm still used to the update procedures from my old Qtek 9090, where the rom, radio and ext were in 3 seperate image files and where you could just delete those you didn't want to be upgraded.
I wasn't sure if I would have had all the Vodafone stuff and couldn't reverse it. But you seem quite sure that their individual stuff is in the Ext I'll have a try tonight.
My Ext can be downloaded from the site. So I can skip extracting it.
By the way: I the ftp server sometimes down? I couldn't connect yesterday from home. Now, from work, it works fine and fast.
No, didn't really work. I've got the impression that it is a little bit more reliable, but what is a push mail service that can't provide at least 99% availability? If I have to look at my phone every hour to make sure Active Sync is still doing what it is supposed to do.
I've not heard of many people experiencing this problem, but since it is only Active Sync (other programs don't have this problem) I don't see what I would get by having the phone replaced... ?
