Tascal Search (how to regain access to Windows Search) ? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I set Tascal Search as the default FIND when cooking my ROM. In retrospect this was a mistake, however, I don't want to burn another ROM and go through the pain again so...
1. Can anyone tell me the file name of the Pocket PC FIND App so I can create a shortcut to it?
2. Tell me how to reset the default FIND function to point back to the original FIND app?

Windows Media Player

I accidentally made a downgrade of the Media Player software from the Microsoft's Pocket PC site, does any body knows how to get the Latest Media Player version back? :?
Have you looked in "Remove programs" to see if it can be uninstalled?
That was my first thought, do you think that the drivers will be restored?.
Let me try, thanks
By the way, I tried to send you a SMS from Monterrey, Mexico and it does not work.
Best Regards
Half luck, I did remove the update (downgrade) but the only way to run the player now is by getting it under the windows folder.
The MP3 songs show the windows icon well known by everybody when there is no application associated with them (Windows Media Player).
You can fix this in one of 2 ways.
1. Factory reset your xda. (if this idea really does not appeal then you can try option 2)
2. Manually fix the registry as follows
download and install PHM RegEdit from www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit
make sure that you have a key in the root of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT for each of the following :-
.asf
.mp3
.nsc
.wma
.wmp
.wmv
if you dont add them
in each of the keys there should be a string(REG_SZ) value called Default with a value of wmfile
Then check for a key also in the root of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT called wmfile, again if its not there create it.
within the wmfile key there should be 2 values :-
Default which is a string(REG_SZ) with value Windows Media File
EditFlags which is a dword(REG_DWORD) with a decimal value 65536
There needs to also be 2 keys within the wmfile key :-
DefaultIcon
Shell
The DefaultIcon key should contain one value :-
Default which is a string(REG_SZ) with value \Windows\player.exe,-2001
The Shell key contains another key called Open
The Open key contains another key called Command
The Command key contains one value :-
Default which is a string(REG_SZ) with value \Windows\player.exe %1
Once you have checked and restored where necessary all these keys and values you media players original functionallity will be restored.
You may also need to re-create the shortcut in your start menu using copy and paste shortcut.
Good answer on the WMP fix.
By the way, I tried to send you a SMS from Monterrey, Mexico and it does not work.

Thanks Buddy, this is a heck of a task for me, but I am going to try. Just as an escape route, what is the best way to restore the XDA to the factory settings?.
Thanks A LOT.
unscrew the top end of your stylus to reveal a small plastic pin - then push this pin into the tiny hole next to the headphone socket. Its marked with a battery with a line through it.
Then switch it back on and it will be just as when it came out of the box...
Thanks again.

Divining application registrations

Hey guys:
Quick question. I've got a bunch of apps registered on my phone. Every time I flash a new ROM I need to reenter all of those serial numbers. I was looking at the UC customization threads to see if maybe I could just create a provisioning XML to create the appropriate registry entries automatically. Problem is don't think all the apps store their registration information in the registry.
So a couple questions:
1. I've found a good way to see registry changes (and thus figure out which keys I need to update), but I can't find the equivalent for the file system. Is there a tool that can take a snapshot of the file system on the phone, and then show diffs of the current file system with that snapshot? (That way I could figure out the additional files I'd need to copy over to make apps think they're registered.)
2. Is there another mechanism, other than registry and file system, that apps use to set themselves as registered? I couldn't think of anything... but then I'm hardly a hacker. (Even though... and correct me if I'm wrong... this is not technically hacking -- the serials are valid, I just don't want to reenter 10 of them every time I flash)
3. (And this probably belongs more in the UC thread): for some reason my provisionining file has no effect whatsoever. I've verified syntactical correctness of the file, and that cabarc can successfully create a CAB out of it. I've verified that the file is "installed" during the customization step. Yet, after a reset I see none of the changes specified in the provisionining xml. Any idea how I can debug this? Is there a log file that the config program leaves somewhere?
Thanks!

UPDATED: DeviceID fetcher (now showing multiple IDs)

This a small application I wrote to automatically retrieve the DeviceID on your PC without having to open the registry editor. It can also create the DeviceID.txt file with the id value stored. It's written in Java so it requires JRE to be installed (most of you already have this)
http://rapidshare.com/files/403680176/DeviceID.jar.html
Make sure you have Sony Ericsson Update Service installed otherwise the device id will not be created in the registry
UPDATE: App updated to show all Device Ids stored in the registry
still dont work for me
windows 7 x64
It's been downloaded too many times (10) for a Free Rapid Share account, it is no longer downloadable, you'll have to upload elsewhere

I always get the first one, there is no way afaik to determine which one is getting used at any point. I can maybe change it so that it displays everything and lets u select the one you want to use
Well the point's not what I want to use, it more what's the right one at time of flashing. Is it save to delete those keys so the right one is rebuilt inn case of reconnecting the device ?
it's really not easy to find which one is being used at any point. i don't know if it's safe to delete them from the registry, although i would suspect that it is. just make sure you use the same usb port whenever you flash. that way you avoid overcomplications with this issue
THX for the info. I'd try to find out the right one.
In my case it was the second key found, not the first!
So this tool does not work for everyone.

Default apps...

I am trying energy rom (with MaxSense) and I do not know how handle "default apps"?
With CHT Editor I was able to tell WM that my default calendar app is PI. I am sure it could be tell somewhere in the registry but I do not know what is correct registry key for that. Anybody could help?
And please... correct answer is not: "return back to the ROM where u can use CHT"
I really trying to use MaxSense... at least to realize it's possibilities...

(Q) How ro set specific search folder for e-mail attachments

Dear community !
After an extensive search and playing around with the registry I have to admit I didnĀ“t find a solution to my sepcific problem:
I am on Stock ROM 1.66/1921/WM 6.5
My problem:
When I wish to attach a photo/pdf/doc to my email the popup screen starts to screen my entire 32 GB mSD for files immediately without giving me the chance to select a folder FIRST BEFORE search starts.
Of course this now takes always some 5-8 minutes until the entire mSD card is scanned and ONLY THEN I can choose the MY Documents folder on the mSD
Does anyone know a tweak to make the popup WAIT UNTIL I choose a specific folder to scan ?
Might the tweak be in the registry, in an XML-file or somewhere else ?
(Or am I so stupid not find the answer which might have been given already on this ? )
EDIT: e.g. for album there is tweak to exclude certain folders or include only certain folders but nothing comparable for e-mail
BUMP .............
