installed this shareware tvremote application
http://www.pdawin.com/tvremote.html
i choosed learn and did the stuff to make it work with my philips remote
i started using it and it dident work then i went really close to the tv
maybe like 30cm then it work just fine
but it's hardly a remote if i have to be that close
is this because
1 the ir is weaker then the other pocketpc's ?
2 a shareware limitation ?
3 because i teach it remote commands with my remote too close to the ir of my xda ?
the IR on the xda is quite weak, definitely not consumer grade. a bit of a bother when you want to convert to the ultimate universal remote control eh?

I seem to remeber someone mentioning before that the IR port on the XDA II is to weak for this, but does anyone know if it's possible to control the TV/CD Player etc. with it?
Thanks,

noviiremote
The best sw for xda2 is noviiremote 2.1 (download trial version from novii.com).
Operative range is within 2 meters for almost all tv to remote;something more for sony cd player in my experience.
Noviiremote has a wonderful learning section to load your own original remote (if not already included in the list); otherwise you can try to find it (ie if your original remote is broken) in its forum.
Remember to check the box for receiving all incoming beams in setting/connection before launch the sw.

Hi,
Does anyone know if the ir remote app supports macros(aka: Activities).
If you are aquainted with the Harmony remotes you know what I'm talking about.
E.g. Activity "Watch TV" would do:
1.Turn TV on
2.Turn Set Top Box on
3. Set correct TV input
4. etc. etc...
Another thing, and sorry if this has been answered already.. Can we also control PS3 with the remote app?
Hi,
I have a harmony remote too, but there's currently no option in the tablet remote software to set up events (switch on tv, switch on amp, turn tv channel to hd1, for example). It's a straight remote control app. Hopefully this might change in future updates?
The ps3 uses bluetooth, and this remote is infra-red, so this native app cant control it. Maybe through an iv-bluetooth decoder, but not straight from the box.
No. The remote software is the simplest remote function. It does not support activies.
I read somewhere though that you can have it learn the macro when you use the learning feature. It can learn the commands from your remote, and it was mentioned that macro can be learned as well. Will test it later on tonight....

Any luck with this?
IR activities alternative
I found this workaround on the US Sony Forum.

Still need to check it out myself.
Sorry can not post URL (just yet)
Grtz
I was also disappointed that it didn't recognise my Panasonic Air Conditioner Ir remote.
In this day and age it's also amazing that it doesn't have a link to an online library of remotes people have already taught it...
Any devs out there... that's my wish list... oh yeah maybe a night vision app that uses the IR as a night light
The remote can learn any sort of remote cntroller. I've used the tablet to learn my York Air-con and my fan. It works for both of them.It takes time to learn the remote function. You have to try several times.
Its the best tablet so far.
I'm currently working on a project to extend the capabilities of Android HDMI sticks and Smart TV's, so they can use external sensors (accelerometer as a first trial case). The reasoning behind the project is that the bluetooth keyboards normally delivered with such HDMI Sticks or Smart TV's are really bad, probably because of the interference with your TV itself. Since most of us already have a smartphone or tablet at home, I thought why not lets use their sensors to control your TV.
I've got a first POC working nicely, using the accelerometerplay SDK sample, but all done in the Java part. So now I can use my tablet or smartphone to control the balls in the sample running on a Android HDMI Stick. Basicly what I did was split up the SDK sample in a controller and viewer part, where the controller is using the Android sensor framework to fetch accelero values off my smartphone and tranfer them over Wifi towards the viewer, which will calculate the ball's positions as original.
A disadvantage of this approach is that I had to change the code of the 'original' application that is normally using the accelero sensor, to pick up the sensor data send over wifi. I want to go one step further however and implement a truly remote accelero sensor, which is registered properly in Android's sensor framework. Hence I would be able to increase the (android market) capabilities of my Smart TV or HDMI stick drasticly.
Anyone has good reference documentation on how to implement your own sensor and register it truly in the Dalvik VM. I searched in NDK related documentation, but did not found the golden bullet so far. The following link is really the only thing I could find sofar: hxxp://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Android_Sensor_PortingGuide
Any advice truly appreciated ,
Bart
Hay guys
I was wondering if there are any good applications which would make use of the IR blaster on my HTC ONE
for example TV remote control apps
because i searched the net and couldn't find any good app that works with HTC ONE'S IR Blaster

I'm just using the included "TV" app and it's working excellent. Not only does it give you Remote functionality, but also will pull in your provider's channel guides/listing for your viewing pleasure
irdroid or androidirc,
you can google it ,to find the right site to download, i did'nt find any application in google play

Honestly, Sense TV app that comes with the phone, does a real good decent job as a Remote app.

OP's question is still relevant. Until we have market apps that utilize the IR blaster, this is yet another feature that's dependent upon using a Sense-laden ROM.
Look up peel on the playstore... I haven't used it yet but it's supposedly used with devices with an ir port.

Ha gave a link anyway...
I'm looking for alternatives too, the built in App doesn't support my denon receiver and I can't seem to figure out how to tell the remote I want to use the menu button on my TV sometimes and not my DVR.
Not sure of any apps, but there are workarounds to your problems. Create completely separate remotes for your devices when you don't want overlap, or if it's just one button that overlaps you can map that to one of the buttons on the HTC remote app that you aren't using (for me, that's the "." button on the number pad).
Will the remote app still not support your receiver if you do it the hard way (programming each button)? Or is just that you would rather not have to go through that (understandable).

I'd rather not have to program each button. I'm longing for the Harmony folks releasing a remote app. Activity based remotes are awesome.
I'm actually looking for an app that will mimic the Apple Remote so that I can control my Macbook with it.
I am just looking for an app that will skip all the programming BS and just left me use it as a remote. I don't have any service as I use 100% streaming and downloading for my content. Also simple functions like power/input take extra button presses. Should be much easier than it is.

The problem with this is it requires a separate hub and doesn't make use of the built-in IR blaster. I too yearn for a Harmony-like app that makes use of my IR blaster...

[APP][IR][ALPHA] ONE To Remote Them All
Found this one. Doesn't work for aosp that I can tell though.
Sent from my ONE CM10.1
the ir blaster prbly will never work on asop. it is missing the required drivers for it.
IS there any way to use the HTC One as a remote for my Nikon D7100? I know I've got an IR blaster, Bluetooth, esc... But I'm not sure if there is any way to go about using it as a remote shutter activator. My camera does not have Bluetooth, however it does have to inferred receivers.
Let me know if you guys have any idea.
Thanks

sure, you just need to make a app for that.
Moved to Q&A
Ir blaster on the ONE is kinda pointless.

you can
not true. using it with my D7000 and it works just fine. you just have to create a new remote then when it says choose tv brand you select unkown manufacturer and then you go an manually teach the phone what you want to do. now, providing that you already have a remote compatible with your camera you just pres the remote button and set it to whatever button from the remote you want. there are 26 of them so there are plenty  i set mine to the OK one because i think it is the easyest one to hit. enjoy!
This app looks interesting for stuff like that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.remotefairy2&hl=en but I wasn't (yet) aware you could train the built-in remote from HTC as described in the above post.
shameless plug
Shameless plug here, but I put together an app that does exactly this
There are a few on the play store, but search for "SLR Camera IR Remote" for mine (been a long time member here, but been lurking a lot.. so I don't have enough posts to post external links).
I wish the remote app was a bit simpler. Having to bounce all over to control my tv and dvr is rather annoying...
It should just need an update to add the capability to recognize other things such as cameras that have IR sensors (personally I didn't know such a thing existed)
The app needs a squeeze to put as much control as possible into one screen so you don't have to bounce back and forth. A toggle somewhere to swap between as well. Won't happen unless someone makes an app or HTC decides to see their folly.
Still, it's unique, so it's nice to use when I don't feel like gettin up for the actual remote lol.
