O2 XDA Policies - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi guys, was wondering if anybody know of a Policy Editor style util/tool for the O2 XDA.
We ship these XDA's to our clients to use with our custom designed software, however we dont want them to run anything bar our software.
With Windows you can use Policy Editor to allow only authorised applications to be executed. Can this be done with the XDA's.
Oh one more thing, does anbody know how to delete the settings folder off the start menu?
Thanks guys (and gals) for you help in advance.
Mike

Don't know if there is a policy editor but I recall reading about a product from SPB Software house (http://www.spbsoft.com/index.html) that sounds like it might be what you need.
Please check out SPB Kiosk @ http://www.spbsoft.com/products/kioskengine/index.html
Hope this helps. Regards

k_kirk,
Thanks for that, its look promissing on their website, will let you know if this solves my problem.
May I thank you for posting a reply to my topic, really appreicated.
Mike

Mike,
Thanks for your kind words. I'd be interested in finding out about your experiences. Seems like SPB is putting in some effort in the Enterprise area which is great to see. I do use some of their products on personal basis but have not had as chgance to see how well they do this zone. Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards & Good Luck

yes you can transfer files from your computer to your xda2 via its "stand"
you can use resco file explorer to send files via bluetooth.
you can use Windows Media 10 to play in landscape mode.
the "MAC type" scheme your refering to can be achieve through Wisbar Advance 2
thanks sir alphatrion for that walkthrough ill be searching to study more about it, thanks.
yes sir salaryman, that is also one of the reasons i came here (because of the advanced members knowledge and its courteousness enough to answer any given querry) im still adjusting to using the net and your forum, im also doing some searching, no need to rub it in. thank you for your time.

HTC weather sucks, who's with me?

It's got very poor accuracy, few information, laggy updating, and has lots of problems with the towns' database.
Is there a way to change the application that is called when pressing HTC home weather button.
This pretends to be a constructive post

I second that. It still doesnt work over proxy server in USA tmobile service now. I rather have the good old weather panel application running.
i am not agree.if you have any better idea, why don't ask HTC to change the plugin?

Beautiful but not quite functional.

jcarreira,
Some simple suggestions:
- If you don't like the home plug, don't use it (choose or cook ROM without it, remove from today screen, ...)
- If you don't like part of the home plug (= weather) remove it by changing its settings
- If you feel the need to alter the home plug, feel free to try and hack it or find a version with more settings; you could possibly provide the altered version to us all
What I'm trying to say is:
These people here are doing their best to find solutions and share them with us, even solutions they don't need themselves, WITHOUT PAYMENT and WITHOUT access to the code ... I'm impressed by what Gullum, h4ma, PDAViet and anyone i forget (a lot of people) can achieve in such a short period with so little resources ...
Kind regards
We should be grateful ...
I must remind you that the work performed the the cookers is not in discussion. Indeed the are doing a very good job to provide us very good WM6 ROM. ans of course, in case you haven't noticed yet, HTC Home is not developed by them, but by HTC that in my opinion haven't done any piece of software that was goos enough.

As far as i have read, i think that it is not a matter of being gratefull with people who works on this things. HTC home plug is made by HTC and the matter is that there are a lot of better applications than XDA WEATHER and hopfully it can be changed. That's all.
Just came to cool things I think we all here respect our XDA geeks!

Excuse me, but I think that this is not the question.....
People here don't doubt about cookers work, only are explaining an opinion about a HTC software...
As far as I know, HTC Weather is not developed for nobody that cooks a ROM, only is included in the ROMS, for this, I thnik that your answer is not correct...
Greetings

But the one who is speaking about the cookers?. Simply a topic is exhibited to see if we can improve between all. Nobody says that the work of the cookers is not valued, it seems to me that you have not understood what is proposed in this post.
It is basically if between all it is possible to improve the HTC HOME, and in particular the WEATHER.

Gentlemen... shal we return to the subject? There was just a miscommunication. All what can de said about this, has been said allready...
Let get back to the core-question; is there an alternative to the Weather application used by the Weather tab of HTCHome plug-in?
Like the way the music player is changeable with a simple registry tweak.
Weather fix

++ for SPB weather engine.
I used it in spb weather, then mobile shell, now in spb traveller. I find spb traveller to be the best since it supports weather from many cities and also downloads currency rates and has handy travel tools. just perfect!. Also, it autodownloads weather data at every wifi connect! and it looks nice and clean too...

Online Registry Cab Creator site?

Hello all,
I've searched all over xda and google, but i cant seem to find this site.
few months ago i came across this website that had a Huge list of registry edits. One could just tick each registry he/she wanted and scroll down to the bottom and fabricate a custom cab file with all the registry edits.
the site was a very basic site with no visual effects or anything... so you just get down to business.
its not the cab-o-matic site.
Please Help me as I need the address to the site.
Thank you all so much in advance
I know that page, was also searching for it:
This one is close:
http://supware.net/CabGen/
But not the one you probably mean.

I found the Info on Fuze Mobility.
But i still think that there's another one around........ keep searching.
And bookmark it.
There was cab-o-matic but website seems to be down... Maybe it's just a temporary issue.

Hi, I'm the admin of the nowsci.com site. It's back up now. Wordpress was playing tricks on me. It used to be hosted somewhere else, that may be why you are thinking it was another site.
Thanks guys for the info provided. This will help in the use of XDA_UC. Once again thanks for sharing

How to set proxy setting for wifi?

hello every one
first thank you for viewing this thread
can any one tell me how to set proxy settings WORKING with HTC HD2
i already tried below methods but non working at alln and i am only able to browse the Local Network (Interanet) but no access to the internet.
1. set Network card to connect to work and edit My work connection Proxy settings.
2. using ProxyOn.cab file and editing the registry key of proxy setting
i've tried all of these with and without Hard reset Soft Reset
i am able to brows the internet when i connect my phone to a PC through Sync and set the Proxy and IP Manually
i am sure that DHCP is working fine with my phone becuase i can go through local network
as i asked HTC support they told me :
You can only set up proxy server for wifi via 3rd party application Unfortunately we are unable to help with your query as we don not support third party applications. Please refer to the software vendor for further assistance. As far as we know this application may not be compatible. We hope that you will find further assistance with the software developer. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Kind Regards Harika K. HTC
Please i really need your Help

set proxy for opera:
type in URL opera:config
!!!!!!!!!!!!
then go and set what ever you want
as easy as this!!
it dose not work on my phone
hi ,
i use opera mini 5,
i try opera:config , but it does not give to change proxy.
thanks
What about using an ordinary opera browser? not possible?
you are right there is no proxy in config tab in mini or any where else
if you have visited this thread you may have using an HTC and any htc device may be able to use opera mobile.
Thanks a mil
THANK YOU! The experts in my university's computing and network services said nothing could be done! The registry tweak didn't work! No instant reply from HTC, and yet the solution is as simple as opera:config!
but as you may know ONLY opera web browser is connected to internet.
and the apps like NimBuzz, weather and etc are still unable to connect.
so its better than having nothing
can i ask u where are you from?!
Beirut. And you're right, the settings only apply locally to opera, but its better than nothing. Let's hope they fix it in the near future...
Hi if you want to use proxy for your WiFi one important thing is to setup the connection to connect to Work, not to Internet.
Go to Start->Settings Connections tab, tap Wi-Fi, tap Wireless Networks. Select the network you'd like to connect to (or add new one) and on the first screen you'll see a dropdown named Connects to. Here you have to set it to Work, NOT TO Internet. Apply the settings (if you're adding a new connection, insert all the other data too).
Next go to Start->Settings Connectins tab and tap Connections. Go to tab Advanced and tap Select Networks button. From the first dropdown select My Work Network (if it isn't there create it and name it so). Edit this setting (tap button Edit). Open the tab Proxy Settings. Check both checkboxes and tap on Advanced button. Here you'll have to specify your proxy addresses and ports. For me to get it to work I had to specify HTTP and Socks.
Set this up and apply all settings you have done so far.
Go to Start->Settings Connections tab and tap connections. Go to tab Advanced and tap Select networks button. Now select My Work Network also in the second drop down and apply the changes.
I hope it'll work for you. The whole thing depends on the type of proxy you have and what kind of authentication it uses.
I've tested it on HTC Touch HD (Windows Mobile 6.1) and on Ipaq 114 (Windows Mobile 6.0).
*edit*
I've also successfully tested it on HTC Touch HD2 (Windows Mobile 6.5) and Sony Ericsson Xperia (Windos Mobile 6.1).

I give you right. Maybe I should try. But you know what... following a thread is a question of motivation, as you may allready know. There has to be something attaching to it, if you know what I'm saying.... And now, now, here you come, hillarious, funny, intelligent, who wouldn't want more?
Since you're so generous on advice, here's a thought: A man of your character has most certainly heard of a german comedian Stefan Raab. The thing is, he wrote songs out of quality quotes. So I thought you write a little something out of your last two posts here and publish it on YouTube. Put a little music to it, etc. You know how it goes, right? I'm telling you, you are the material of success. And with such great gadget you own, you could do it directly with your phone and then afterwards even post a tutorial about it here on xda!

And you know what, I'll give you my thanks (again!), you won't even have to say a curse word or an technical advice. Think about how great this will look on your resume!! Everyone will be able to see how many thanks you've collected and how! And if you'll play along, this thread has a potential to be one of the most viewed on the forum, think about it! [Q] Changing the build.prop to indicate it's not a Nook Tablet?

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone changed the NT build.prop to have it being recognized as a different tablet? Like say a Samsung Galaxy Tab?
Care to share your settings? Please?
The reason I ask is that a lot of the Market apps are not availble for our NT,and so by changing it, it should give us more option and openess to download and install those apps.
Thanks in advance.

This has been a very well covered topic.

A little bit of advice, try doing searches before posting asking about something that has been widely discussed. This item was pretty easily found and there are certain people that get mad when new users ask old questions. I am not one of those people, but it will save you some grief. Then if you have questions regarding something you don't understand people will be more likely to help you out. Good Luck....
